I wanted a breathable jacket for metal detecting and stumbled on this shop. They were really helpful and I bought a new surplus UK army jacket. Genuine goretex and great quality at a very fair price. Well worth a visit.

I visited City Surplus for the first time in a couple of years. The store had a large array of genuine British army products, managed to source a Virtus bergen and hydration system, with a pair of Goretex haix boots size 10 and some vintage Dutch jungle boots in lovely condition. Very pleased with the products having tested everything purchased prior to this write up. I remember being taken to this store in the late 80's by my Grandfather on Charles street when they were based there. Owners are independent and its a family run business that has lasted these testing times. Welcoming staff, had the time to talk and help with locating products in somewhat of an Aladdin' cave, could have spent half my day in the store. I have returned twice and yesterday purchased a winter lined parka. This is my one stop Army/Outdoor point of call, competitive pricing and very friendly staff and thankyou to the Lady that served me. Kimbo S

The lady serving me was very nice and attentive and was able to offer me a discount for a rain jacket that I bought. Unfortunately, one of the buttons has pulled off from the jacket in the space of a week from buying it. I'm not sure if I can exchange this one for another? On a different note, the shop has a good variety of items but be aware that you'll be paying in cash.

I was looking to replace a pair of rainproof over-trousers that I use when cycling. The first cycling shop that I tried at Fosse Park didn't have anything suitable and the second one that I tried on Upperton Road had become an angling shop, so I went into the city to City Surplus. I explained what I needed, was shown a wide variety options and given a good price for my choice. Finally a successful shopping trip.

Impressed by the outdoor/military stock held here, great quality and very competitive pricing. The gentleman that served me was very patient and knowledgeable in the product questions that i asked, many thanks! I picked up a Gore-tex MTP smock and trouser set, a super grade pair of 2018 German Army mk2 fighting boots that i have looked literally everywhere for, a pair of Zamberlan Skill GT Gore-tex boots and a Mk6 helmet. I will return for the protection Vests and the British army MTP leather Gloves Great to see an independent family run business in the city centre, as from what i can see there are not many around these days if any at all, and I have recommended the store to a peak district walking club that i help run.

Great store, friendly owner. Would recommend for anyone looking for top quality outdoor gear.

Love this store. Packed with a plethora of goodies some, used some new. All quality kit. It's been serving the public for over 30 years. Great kit for walking, training, fishing, and going on exercise. Combat jackets, trousers, all washed clean and ready to use. I was thoroughly impressed with this store. Been coming to this shop since I was young for my German para boots and collection of knifes. Every time I've walked in I've been greeted so happily and felt like I was being invited round for a cup of tea. I do easily spend £50 on different stuff but she always looks after her valued customers. Keep going guys!! I'll be back in next week
