I went to Runners Needs Leicester for gait analysis. Callum met me and we did bench test. It was ten years since my last gait analysis and I am 12kgs heavier. Callum, outlined the process quickly took me through the necessary safety aspects. Then we took a base line on the HOKA Clifton 8's. I arrived having used my first pair of HOKA (Clifton 7 wide). We tested at 13.1km and tested the HOKA Clifton 8 (in two sizes) against an Asics Gel Cumulus and a Brooks Ghost 14. Results for me were: I am neutral landing on the outside of the right foot and the outside rear of the left. The interesting take away was I land mid-foot in the HOKA versus rear foot in the Asics and Brooks. Callum and I had a decent discussion focussed around the R&D investment made. Ten years ago I was a committed Asics wearer. I came to the analysis with the question, should I stick with HOKA as I move from 20 miles per week to 40 and the start of Marathon training? For me the HOKA had the marshmallow feel and the best lockdown. The Asics felt best built. The Brooks airy and good but in this company was the third shoe for me. In conclusion, I will buy Clifton 8 wide and a Mach 4. If I improve to anything near previous levels I may be tempted back to Asics. I am intrigued by the Asics Novablast and Nimbus lite 24 with Flyte foam + combo (unfortunately neither of these shoes were in store). Ultimately to race a good marathon Asics have the better racing option (Meta speed sky) versus HOKA presently. Really appreciated Callum who was on it. Previous experiences of Gait analysis involved me parting with several hundred pounds. To book a gait analysis and get clear results and review in such relaxed way is helpful. Runners Need have a strong business model. To elevate to the next level then need to now incorporate the shoes getting top reviews from top you tubers eg De Moor Global running, or Run testers of FoD runner in the UK.
