Reviews of Snow + Rock Covent London - Covent Garden, Mercer Street
A. B.
Excellent service. Really helped that the person who helped me was not just knowledgeable, he was an experienced outdoorsman. He had also just come from where I am going trekking. His personal knowledge of the terrain made me much more confident that I was buying the right shoes for me. I also overheard him send other potential customers elsewhere so they got what they needed. Made me think he was selling me what he thought was the best product for my needs and not just selling me what he thought I would buy. Very excited to start walking in my new hiking boots.
Y. V.
Good choice but substantially understaffed. They were unable even to give me a box with ski boots of the size I needed, which I consider is quite quick. This way they will lose many potential clients
S. D.
I bought a jacket from this store which ended up being too small for me. I asked to exchange it for a bigger size, with no problems at all. The friendly gentleman (with the cool blue hair) helped me and made the whole experience stress free.
C. A.
Came for climbing shoes and the customer service was dire from the man who was meant to help us. Had to wrangle another person to help us but she didn't know anything about climbing shoes
C. T.
Fantastic range and variety of ski clothing and equipment. Friendly and helpful staff. Definitely recommend spending a few hours here getting kitted out.
T. B.
4* for the store (Probably need more staff on a Friday night.) but 5* for Sam himself; he was so very helpful! Really knowledgable and dedicated to helping us find the perfect snowboard boots! Thank you again.
M. M.
One of the best spots for winter sports in the UK. Also 2 min walkijg distance from covent garden metro station. The store is big, however its spread over 5 storeys which makes it painful to walk up and down. Skiing and snowboarding sections seemed busy, this did not manage to receive service. What a shame... when to snowboarding asylum half a mile away and got my boots. Selection seem to be much more limited thank snowboarding asylum too. Kudos for the customer toilets
赵.
Staff are very nice, but unfortunately didn't find Burton base layer
M. T.
Was accompanying friend, single staff member in basement who seemed very knowledgeable about stock. One star dropped as nobody from upstairs came down to help serve when at a point, there were 4 potential customers waiting for service.... Management !!!!
E. N.
Michael helped me loads get a great pair of red chili climbing shoes, super helpful even in a busy day, great shopping experience!
j.
Lovely store. Nice staff especially a girl called Jess..she was so helpful, very informative, helped me to find exactly what I was looking for :)
C. S.
Limited selection of skis on the top floor, wouldn’t recommend if that’s what you’re after
O. M.
Turned up on a Sat to buy first ever ski boots for my son, only to discover that we needed an appointment - sign of the times! - and that they were fully booked that day, with the next free slot being 1-2wks time. However, Lenka just happened to be free right at that moment and was able to fit us in. Fantastic service, and my son is very happy with his new boots and looking forward to trying them out next year. Many thanks Lenka. Will definitely return next year for boots for my daughter.
A. M.
My partner and I went here on a Friday afternoon to look for some snowboarding boots. Store was quite quiet and we didn’t have to wait long to be seen. David was so helpful and an absolute credit to the company. He was very knowledgable and friendly, spending a lot of time with us helping us find the right boot. We didn’t feel pressured to buy anything that wasn’t perfect. Great service, great staff, would come back in a heartbeat. Thanks!
E. M. a. D.
very helpful staff especially Anders helped me find a suitable shoe.
M. B.
Amazing service!! Best trailrunning shoes I’ve ever bought. An with the Very professional, thoughtful and warm welcome I also bought a new pair of running shoes. This is how sales works!! Great job guys
J. U.
Totally professional service, as always. Remains one of the go to places for high quality outdoor wear
O. S.
No good socks for me
No prices on any items
Similar shop on piccadilly much better
J. M.
David in the Covent Garden store fit both my girlfriend and I with ski boots this weekend. His knowledge of the range of boots was excellent. His service was impeccable. I would not hesitate to return to this store to buy both skis and bindings because of him. Great experience.
A. M.
Got my gait checked and fitted for my new runners.
Manuela was brilliant!
H. T.
James was amazing with his help and advise in ski boot fitting, couldn't have asked for a better experience. Looking forward to getting back on the slopes ASAP!
A. M.
Friendly and very helpful. Quite happy to place an online order for me to be delivered, rather than my having to carry things around.
M. G.
Decent range of brands and items. Above all the staffs are very friendly and helpful, which is what makes for a good customer experience.
F. R.
Not so sure as Manuela was sure size 7 was perfect, no need to do a gait analysis or anything. However I went to 2 other runners need and both said size 7.5 was needed.
Who knows, I thought the assistant was fantastic at the store but didn't develop confidence or a welcoming feeling with Manuela.
The young lady at checkout was also brilliant and superb
J. K.
Small selection of running shoes, the salesperson was a little more than frank, I am a runner, but my wife is not, and she requested to get her gait tested, the salesperson said that it's pointless if you are not a runner. I didnt purchase anything as a matter of principle, but my wife still did. A little politeness and customer service will go a long way.
J. D.
Big Thank you!! To Ben at @snowandrockcoventgarden for helping me find the best suited ski boots for myself and all the additional work you did to make sure they where the perfect fit and comfortable.
The service and expertise where great in the store all round, thanks!
M. P.
Really helpful. It was busy - but I still felt I got a personal service. Now the proud owner of some very comfortable new running shoes 😊 Paris Marathon, here we come 🏃♂️💨💨💨
T. G.
Excellent customer service in boot dept. The staff are very knowledgeable and very helpful. They don't jut try to sell you anything they have, they really listen to your requirements and get you to test the boots thoroughly. No hard sell. Willing to order other models in if they don;t have anything that fits. Only one thing we found strange....they don't keep many men's boots in size smaller than 8 in stock which seems a bit silly, but they will order in for you.
D. H.
I had a problem with inconsistent sizing of ski pants. I am usually size 14 or 16 in some brands. I found some trousers which I liked, size 16, expect they were too short. In the long length I needed size 18, which I have never been! I was charged £15 more than the price on the garment label. The shop assistant had been very helpful and explained that the displayed price was from last year and this year the price had increased by £15. After the purchase I contacted Customer Services, who have agreed to refund the £15. Very helpful but this should have been sorted out at the till in the shop.
S. S.
Excellent repair service. They improvised to repair a broken clip on my ski boot at the last minute. Thanks to Lenka for a great job and great communication. Will be my go to store for all things ski.
N. A.
Manuela was really excellent and professional. She is very knowlegeable, efficient and most importantly patient. Thank you for all your help!!!
S. G.
I went to buy my first pair of bouldering shoes. The member of staff that helped me was great. I definitely wouldn't have got the best fit without their help.
M. R.
Some of the other reviewers seem to have received what they consider to be bad service - I had the opposite experience. Great customer service, Juan went out of his way to find the last jacket they had in the business at a different store and to arrange to have it delivered before our last-minute holiday a few days later. Very happy indeed with the standard of service here, staff seemed very attentive and helpful.
I've dropped a star since I agree with other reviewers that the store layout and decor could really use some modernisation; although there's a limit to what they could do with the space it's generally a bit tatty and would benefit from a revamp. The staff service makes up for it though.
n. a. r.
The best shop for mountain gear I have ever dealt with. Ask for Daniele (Italian gentleman) who is super knowledgable on the gears that you want. I needed gears for my mount Elbrus climbing and he helped me with every single details. Knowledge is power and Daniele in this store is an asset for customer experience. Thank you and for sure will visit this shop again for my next trip upgrade.
I. C.
I visited this store a few weeks ago for new ski wear and the staff were very helpful. Especially Travis, who spent a lot of time explaining the details of each product and which was best suited to my requirements. Will definitely be returning to this shop!
J. M.
Great store with plenty of options.
D.
Had my gait analysis done in store and bought a new pair of stabilising trainers to correct my over pronation. Great service and I'm very happy with my purchase - thank you!
A. T.
Massive difference between staff knowledge. Emilia knew what she was talking about recommending a new layering system.
Then we moved to mountaineering boots where the experience from a thin female, shirt hairsales person was totally different; awkward and unpleasant.
We left quickly totally confused even forgetting to try high altitude gloves. We didn’t buy anything although we had a budget of 1000£
A. T.
Despite the busy time, the customer service was excellent. Manuela was friendly, professional and knowledgeable. I can only say ask for her if you visit!
C. G.
Great shop. I went for moulded insoles and done in 30 minutes
A. T.
Great experience, had to wait a short while since the shop was busy at 5pm but Richard was very patient and helpful, performing a free gait analysis and giving me 5 pairs of shoes to try on. He didn’t pressure me into picking one particular pair but allowed me to make my own decision, trying all options on the treadmill too.
M. V.
Went there to get some snowboard boots after the end of the season. A member of staff helped me for 3 hours with fitting and trying different boots on. He was always polite and helpful. Would recommend to anyone.
A. W.
Excellent boot fitting service by a young man named Chris. I bought custom footbeds to go with the snowboard boots I bought. Chris was very patient with getting me fitted for the custom foot beds, making adjustments until the fit was just right. And he was serving multiple customers at the same time too. Hardworking fellow, great service!
d.
Noone free to help with goggles and the staircase is very narrow
Y. Y.
I had my first pair of ski boots fitting done yesterday with Teboi who is absolutely amazing. He is very knowledgeable, professional and patient. He genuinely cares about finding you the right pair of boots, especially the size and shape of my feet are not in common category. After had compared and contrasted a few pairs of boots, Teboi helped me to find the perfect pair! I couldn't be any happier. Much appreciated! :)
T.
I bought a winter jacket and a fleece sweater today. The quality of the clothes is excellent. I always come to you for my pre-winter clothes as I mostly work abroad in Asia. On entering your shop I was approached immediately with a smile and asked if I needed any help. The staff were friendly and courteous. Very helpful. Always a good shopping experience at your place. Thank you. Mike
G. R.
Went to the store last Saturday to get some ski clothes for my daughter who is between kids and adult sizes. Peter was very helpful across the 2 floors and made a real effort to help us find the right kit for our needs. The store could use some modernisation so that’s why it has lost one star.
J. G.
My son and I went to Covent Garden today to be measured and fitted for Ski boots. We were served by Bridgette who took her time to deal with every one of our concerns. Her excellent knowldege of the products and how to alleviate pressure within the boots showed her commitment to superb customer satisfaction and ensuring the customer leaves the shop happy. Sincere thanks Bridgette, regards D & R Gregory
C. B.
Great inventory, professional and helpful staff. Had in stock an Arc'teryx product that wasn't available even in the flag store due demand. Outstanding shopping experiences.
B. M.
Lui was super helpful when I went to buy my first ever snowboarding boots. I'm not sure they had much in the way of stock because there were only two pairs I could try on, and one of the pairs was clearly for more advanced snowboarders. She measured my feet and told me I'm a size 4 and heat moulded the boots for me. I just wasn't sure about them. I ended up buying the same boots in a size 5 in Ellis Brigham, and they feel like the right fit. Not Lui's fault though, she was really helpful.
A. V.
I went in and had my gait analysed. Rafael was professional, knowledgeable and had some great advice. I bought shoes but there was no pressure to buy. Lovely shop and great customer service.
s.
Friendly, helpful and informative advice when shopping for mountaineering boots. Absolutely certain I've made the right choice of boot for me and for what I want to do, even on top of the plentiful research I did before going there :)
J. Z.
Tried to buy some ski goggles, area far too cramped with helmets there as well. Store assistant was talking to same couple for 30 minutes, I left and came back, asked him a question about OTG goggles which they do not seem to stock but did not say this and recommended normal wide goggles. Not really the stores fault it's busy but I think the layout could do with improvement especially as it is the ski season.
D. L.
I'm a big fan of this store. Such a perfect range of prices and items. If you're looking for climbing shoes in particular, they have a brilliant range with the best prices I've found in London.
S. D.
Many floors and all kinds of equipment, clothing and bag for every need. I found exactly what I needed on the floor that just had lots and lots of bags. Useful staff. Many different brands and they do student discount.
c. r.
Really good service. I went here during my lunch break to look for a snow helmet. It was clear that the staff were passionate about snow sports and were very helpful. Although they didn't have the helmet that I wanted I can't fault the service.
R. N.
Lots of goodies to distract me on my way to buy a compass. Theo did a good job if recommending a good quality one. The young lady who took my money on the ground floor was very friendly. I am sorry not to have asked her name.
J. D.
I visited yesterday as someone with very little experience of running that needed advice and was met by Richard in store. He brought out 7 different shoes for me to test whilst sharing a wealth of knowledge and experience with me. He tried not to influence my decisions so that I would choose the pair that i found most comfortable and in the end I am very happy with my purchase and was delighted with my experience in store.
D. T.
The service is excellent in this branch, the stuff is super friendly and very well informed about the products they sell.
Thank you Anastasia and Amelia for helping me out choosing the right gear.
J. M.
There's a lift to take you to the 3rd floor for running shoes (Runners Needs). Very helpful staff who seemed genuinely interested in getting the right shoe for me when I explained my requirements. (Side note: there are toilets on this floor too.)
J. K.
Good however you were understaffed while i was buying my ski boots. Didn't receive the right amount of attention for such a purchase, as the assistant was trying to deal with 3 customers simultaneously.
H. H.
Largest selection of outdoor clothing and accessories available in central London. This place has 5 floors offering everything you could need for any outdoor excursion. Ski kit, camp kit, climbing gear, walking boots. If you want to climb Everest this place can kit you out. A little tricky to find but it’s just off long acre, it’s just down the road between Gap kids and Jack Wolfskin
S. G. S.
Great customer experience. Rafel was helpful and knowledgeable, i will certainly be back for my next pair of runners
G. C.
Very friendly and helpful. Vaska sorted out my orders, gave good advice and generally took away the pain of having to change a few things around to get my orders through quicker.
Excellent store!
J. G.
Sam in the basement is very knowledgeable about all mountain related activity. He is happy to advise customers on many aspects including the equipment he describes as ‘Gucci’ and how to look ‘Turbo-Rad’ on your monoski while going full sendies. Heroic Customer Service.
A. M.
Limited selection of shoes, but knowledgeable staff.
Manuela was very helpful, highly recommended.
Will definitely come back.
J. P.
Great store, was a bit busy but suppose it is the time of year everyone goes to get their skiing gear. Had a good selection of skiwear and though expensive will look great on the slopes
I. J.
Used to be the authentic destination for all things mountain and ski, but in recent years the stock depth has thinned. Previous 'destination' brands like Icebreaker and Patagonia are now very thin on the ground. Still worth popping in to, but it's no longer the authoritative mountain destination it once was for clothing. For boots, however, there is a really knowledgeable and helpful team, allied to one of the best ranges in London, so it's not all doom & gloom!
E. G.
Just bought a new pair of climbing shoes here. Had an ace customer experience with a really helpful and knowledgeable member of staff. Thanks!
B. G.
Hi, I was super happy with help of Chris and this lovely lady I don't remember name now. I was buying a systematic jacket and some other gear for my Alps trip and they made me choose quickly and without hesitation.
C. S.
Excellent service. Anders, the manager is a ⭐️
D. M.
Richard could not be more helpful. A very informative session for me with him, and offered a variety of shoes at a variety of prices. No pressure to buy or choose any one product. Thanks!
K.
Amazing experience! I am new to running and after a couple months I decided to treat myself to new trainers. Rafael was so helpful and patient when doing my gait analysis and helping me pick a pair of trainers. I was really anxious as I am not an experienced runner but I wasn’t made to feel like that. I did purchase my trainers but I didn’t feel any pressure to do so.
T. C.
A relatively small and predictably expensive mountain sports shop however the staff are normally quite helpful even if you do get the occasional disinterested gap year shop assistant or bleary eyed stonner. Hard goods can be found in the basement, everything else is ground floor and up.
C. M.
Outstanding service from staff who spent over 2 hours with me to choose my high altitude mountaineering boots even though it was clear to him I might check out other options at nearby.
J. v. M.
Passionate knowledgable and helpful team in what has to be the best outdoor store in the UK. Snow and Rock has all the good gear, none of the junk. Their online store and returns policy make it even more of a pleasure. 5 stars!
B. H.
The store where we always go for ski equipment and clothing. All the products are of high quality and not that pricey. Huge store, friendly and knowledgeable staff.
J. J.
Solid range, great for ski / snowboarding. Also solid range for technical mountaineering.
Makes me cry that they don't sell much Hagloffs, but that's a personal beef.
S. O.
Very helpful staff. Found running shoes for wide feet
G. S.
Got my ski boot's footbed custom done here. Was helped by a chap called Chris and he was brilliant. Would definitely go again.
G. R.
In my view the best outdoors shop in the Covent Garden area and probably central London. I would love to take my trade to some small independent place run by a Chris Bonington type but until I find it this pretty good.
There's a good range and, on average, (factoring in the various sales) the prices are competitive with the web - with the obvious advantage that you get to try things on. The staff often have a lot of experience, drawn to the work by the connection to the activities they love. They do an excellent 15% discount for BMC members (I should say Cotswold does too and many others do ~10%).
I really like their recent introduction of Saturday talks on various insprational themes - e.g. how to prepare for a trip up Mont Blank. Makes it feel a bit less transactional.
Good stuff!
NB: BMC membership costs about £15 a year for direct debit subscription and gives a range of the benefits such as access to tailored insurance as well as supporting mountain sports in the UK generally.
J. D.
This is the largest store of Snow+Rock and located in convenient place. And good selection of outdoor items. I reduced one star because items are not sorted well, especially downstairs.
M. S.
Arthur was very helpful, measured my feet, gave me trekking socks to try with the boots and explained things very well to a first time trekker
m. b.
Thanks very much to Curt from the Covent Garden branch for helping us choose our new MSR tent. Helpful and attentive, with experience of his own to back up his knowledge!
D. B.
Always helpful, knowledgeable staff. Great ski and boot fitting services, custom moulding, etc.
B. K.
I have received good service over a period of time from v helpful staff, the guys ( + 1 gal) I spoke to were experienced equipment users and knew what they were talking about.
S. S.
Best ski workshop service.staff has excellent knowledge of the products and superb customer satisfaction and ensuring we leave the shop happy.
J. G.
Sam in the basement always loves to talk about his monoskiing and retro ski onesie. So cool.
He’s also extremely knowledgeable and can advise on how to really get the most out of your monoski.
C. G.
Very helpful staff!
D. D.
Amazing range of outdoor gear at the best prices (they price match). Staff is both friendly and knowledgeable, my go to store for anything outdoor!
J. R. W.
Brilliant shop in the center of London offering all you need for skiing, Walking or climbing. Offers BMC discount as well and the staff are all outdoors people with plenty of hands on experience.
T. F.
The Runners Need shop on the 3rd floor is great. I was looking for new running shoes and the person there talked me through all the options, did a free test recording my run to see what type of shoes would be best, and then offered impartial advice while I tried 4 pairs.
I bought some Brooks which came as a suggestion after I explained what I liked and didn't like about the various others I'd tried on.
E. A.
Went in the middle of a week day so it was nice and quiet, David was very friendly and helpful with advising on ski boots.
A. O.
A wild choice. Pretty good and knowdgeble stuff. You will find from the spoon for camping to high altitude mountaneering boots and crampons , and a great choice of ski & snowboard equipment during the winter seasons
J. D.
Fabulous boot fitting service - very honest and precise service to ensure the right boots are bought - looking forward to going back to complete my fitting later this month
H. C.
Lots of outdoor equipment to choose from. I had gone for hiking boots, but they have lots of winter equipment as well. Staff was also very knowledgeable.
P. S.
The shop is a small outlet compared with out of town outdoor shops, but is large and has a reasonably large stock for central London. Helpful staff.
M. P.
Staff here can rarely help, so do your research beforehand. Stock is always great. They almost always have what I need and then some
E. N.
Good shop but expect lots of stairs! Also does NHS and Military discount! There is also a ski and snowboard servicing department in the basement.
F. B.
Went in here to buy some ski boots. Staff helped me through the buying process and explained my options to me quickly and efficiently.
P. M.
Great service. The staff were really knowledgeable and went above and beyond to make sure I got the right thing.
S. B.
Very informative staff with great knowledge.
Special thank you to Conor for helping me in choosing the right Rucksack for Hiking plus other items.
:-)
M. H.
Helpful and knowledgeable staff. Don't try to sell you all the expensive kit, just the kit that suits your needs
L. B.
fantastic customer service, went out of their way to help me over the phone and sent my item by courier to ensure I received it on time. Everyone I spoke to went above and beyond to help. Thanks guys
N. E.
Enormously helpful and experienced. Didn't push to sell the highest price item, just what was best for me. Spot on 👍
T. S.
Today I walked in to get a new pair of running shoes, as my old pair needed replacing. I did mention I over pronate and that I need shoes that help with that.
Manuela helped me find the perfect pair. I think we tested 7 or 8 different pairs and after every gait test on the treadmill she adjusted her shoe selection until we found a pair that fits perfectly and also helps with my over pronation.
I'm very pleased with the service I received. I will be coming back here in future when I need other new running equipment.
J. C.
Ok but seems to have become a bit down market. Wrong stock on website, limited stock, and lack of information on sales. Responsive customer support team.
A. J.
Myself and my wife have recently started running. Rafael was not only patient but gave us all the advice we needed. There wasn't even talk of us buying anything, just suggestions of what would help us and why. Needless to say we are now both in possession of new running shoes. Well worth getting your gait analysed, very interesting. Couldn't recommend highly enough.
G. A.
Handy place for outdoor gear, and equipment however not all staff are fully cognisant of a client's needs sometimes I feel they try and sell items not really the best for circumstances the customer has discussed (? Profits)
A. S.
Very nice place everything is located in order so no headless running while looking for items, staff is helpfull, prices are good, and choice is wide.
C. R.
Staff are knowledgeable, and there's a decent selection of gear. Great discount (20%) for BMC members, too.
J. L.
Excellent help from Russ in choosing a jacket - very knowledgeable and helped answer all my questions. Great prices too.
M. F.
Best gear shop in town. Some very knowledgable staff. Great sales and solid 15% BMC discount.
P. C.
Very good service when buying running shoes.
J. D.
Good outdoor store for ski and climbing stuff. All the classic brand like Patagonia/North face are represented.
R. M.
Super helpful! Did my Gait analysis and didn't try to push the sale.
N. N.
Top shop thank you 'lucy' great guide to whats what about stuff on display bought nice jacket.
P. D.
Really helpful staff and generally good stock of outdoor clothing and equipment. 20% discount currently for BMC members.
V. P.
Good selection of gear for various types of winter activities, reasonable prices and knowledgeable staff
A. B.
Great shop but when I visited staff didn't seem to engaged, although is was towards the end of the Day
C. D.
Big store with an extensive product range! Each floor seems small, but there are multiple floors.
N. S.
Great service, good price. Join Urban Fitness to enjoy 15% discount off regular items

V. G.
Great customer service and help in buying a pair of climbing shoes on the day I visited.
S. R.
Anastasia was incredibly helpful, attentive and knowledgeable. Great customer service !! Thank you so much 😁
F. Y. C.
Sometimes under staffed. Multiple levels can cause confusion on which floor you want to go. Good stock.
R. M.
Knowledgable staff eager to give advice. Prices are fair. Selection not always as wide as it could be.
W. G.
Ice climbing in central London! Great staff with lots of knowledge. Shame it closes for a month in the winter and isn't a bit higher.
A.
Awesome customer service and best place to buy ski and winter sport stuff.
J. M.
Attentive assistant, good selection of climbing shoes, and they price match!
R. E.
Ok prices, handy custom moulding, ok for intermediaries to semi pros!
N. J.
Great selection and staff. Peter was super knowledgable and friendly. Can recommend

T. C.
Always have a good range of stock in store. Staff are knowledgeable & helpful.
D. H.
Great! Really helpful staff.

Great outdoor store. Friendly staff and decent range.
O. O.
Large choice of ski gear in London, probably the best choice but not always the best price
J. H.
Fitted for skis and boots.
Fantastic service from Raphaëlle, would highly recommend.
m. m.
Go early as limited space for changing. Good selection of top end ski gear.
T. C.
Nice staff but very small selection.
D. H.
Good outdoor gear, only draw back no Patagonia gear sold here :-(
S. M.
