A reasonable outdoor kit shop, but as with most such shops it has a lot of 'fashion' wear masquerading as outdoor kit. But there is good, solid kit if that's what you want.

Don't be fooled by the current 60% off signs in the window. It's "up to" 60% and most offers are the same as available on line. That aside, okay range of low- to mid-level outdoor kit.

The trousers actually have my size. I'm not an unusual size but need short leg. I've been in three times and found trousers that fit every time, five stars. Also, dog friendly, camping stuff, and weird gadgets you'll never really use that take up space in your camping storage. Still five stars.

I had a lot of trouble with customer services regarding a faulty insulated coat that I bought online c. Xmas time. Notwithstanding the Covid shutdown, I had to deal with several customer service representatives (never the same person), who tended to contradict each other at times. Essentially, all I wanted was a replacement coat, but it became a frustrating experience that seemed unending. I was told to take it into a Black's shop for inspection and replacement. Nope, all closed, and the nearest one is a 50 miles round trip! Or I could photograph the fault (black coat and lining) and email the image. Or I could return the coat, pay packaging and postal costs, which would be refunded if it is agreed that I had not caused the pocket lining tear. Not exactly confidence inspiring! I was weary of contacting a different representative reach time, with each contradicting the others! Eventually, just the other day, I risked travelling into Manchester by train and showed the 'tear' to a manager at Black's outlet. She immediately recognised the legitimacy of my claim, agreeing that bad workmanship had caused the problem, and offered a refund. No! I never asked for a refund; I liked the coat and only ever wanted a replacement without a fault. I walked out with a coat - it was never about money! Pity it cost me £16 in travel costs and enormous frustration! Are you reading this, you Black's managers?

I went to blacks on deansgate today to buy a tent and i was greeted by a nice woman called Amber she helped me find everything that I was looking for and even went out of her way to find something that wasn't on the shop floor that I needed, overall she went above and beyond to help me with a big smile all the way through 👌😁 give this woman a very deserve promotion.

Great sale on at blacks. Although some of their items were wrongly labelled and from what the staff had said it had been like that since the day before, so I really didn't understand why they were still showing the incorrect pricing. Other than that the staff were knowledgable and friendly. I was given a 20% off voucher for my pricing trouble so all is forgiven. But management need to sort themselves out to ensure their floor staff don't have angry customers demanding they honer at £85 price tag for a £140 per of shoes.

Friendly and knowledgeable staff, understood what I needed, and looked for the best price option. Did now push to get a better sale, or sell me expensive equipment I didn't need. I went yesterday and Stuart Reid and team were very nice to me and helped me with finding my DofE expedition bag. He also taught me how to put the bag on properly and adjusted the straps. The manager Amber was also really friendly and nice to us.

Doesn't seem to ever NOT have a sale on! Not that I'm complaining because I've had a few good bargains here! Smallish shop covering your usual outdoor clothing and accessories. Has a decent range of walking boots or shoes. Staff are pretty knowledgeable and friendly too.

Took our tent back to Blacks in Manchester, due to slight leaking in a couple of places, the salesman came to the car took the tent out, with no quibble replaced it with a brand new one and then took the new one back to our car for us. Super service .

Blacks has a good selection of brands. The higher end brands are quite expensive so best bought in the sales or click and collect online. The other brands are ok and cheap and cheerful. Staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Although sometimes there aren't enough staff downstairs when it's busy.

Best of the camping & outdoor business (from my view) has better sales than anywhere else for camping and outdoor gear to its predecessor Millets and JD and is a great medium sized store for great bargains and steals. Additionally has great friendly staff and deal with refunds professionally and no ifs or buts like a few retail places.

Popped into the Dreansgate shop as they were closing last night as the rain came down and had an unprotected toddler. I was there last year August and bought some survival gear and especially a Fire Starter kit it was expensive but nonetheless it was an essential buy but some time later I was on the Amazon site and found exactly the same item for less then £2.00. One of my favourite shops but boy is this expensive. I did feel sorry for the woman who was trying to kit her daughter out for a Bronze DofE expedition on a budget, the sales guy was having a field day until I gave a once over of the kit list (With my DofE leader head on). Yes there are items that you should, if you can, spend a little extra on, one they will last and two, there is nothing worse than being uncomfortable when battling the elements; but there are also things that, yes Blacks sell, but there are cheaper/ no cost options they could advise on. As much the schools fault for not educating the parents as it is for the store on not helping the girl out with some free advise, but believe me if someone said "hey, you don't need to buy this waterproof liner for you rucksack today, use a rumble sack for now and when you can afford come back for that", i'd be more inclined to go back and spend more on another day. As it stands I think she'd walk away and feel ripped off and not visit again. I also hadn't got the heart to tell here that she could get 20% off (due to being enrolled with DofE) at Costwolds, 100M up the road, but the sales guy had got quite a mountain of goodies together when I arrived. Love the kit, it is generally great service and advise but on this occasion Blacks missed a trick. DofE participants are the future of your business, if they go out and enjoy our beautiful surroundings they are likely to want to do it time and time again, for which they need kit and then there kids need kit and so on. If they can't get out because they can't afford the kit, everyone looses.

Went in Blacks on Saturday and bought a Garmin 235. The price on the box was over £70 less than at a nearby specialist running shop, who used Brexit as a reason to charge £299. I bought it from Blacks and expected to pay £225, which I thought was reasonable but because the box, which you would usually throw away, had some damage to it, I was given a discount and I paid £189 for the watch so I ended up saving more than £100. Thank you.

This is a great shop for outdoor and ski clothing & equipment. Okay, so it's not the cheapest around but there's a good range of products and the staff are helpful. Look out for their regular sales as there are bargains to be found!
