Reviews of Northfield Pool & Fitness Centre
T. B. B. S.
Took the kids to splash and slide. Really good! Kids loved it. Staff at the desk helpful and friendly, the attendants on the side of the pool happy to let the kids have fun and play along, as well as being professional to the core. Changing rooms, pool and sides clean. Brilliant!
S. P.
I took my 13-month-old daughter for a swim and highly impressed with the centre. Huge parent and baby changing areas (at least 4) with changing table and chair with restraints so you can get changed also, large lockers that I got a collapsible buggy in (make sure you bring a £1 coin but you get it back). A swim session is a small pool for babies / toddlers with walk down steps and a lifeguard less than a metre at all times. Families left bags near pool edge without issue on a busy half term day, but there is a cafe with a large viewing glass overlooking the smaller pool for parents that want to oversee (1 adult must be with child). Was nervous about the whole thing but couldn't rate it higher, and under 6 quid for me and free for my little one (check website for when kids pay) I would recommend to all parents hoping to teach their kids water confidence.
A. ..
Northfield gym is clean and tidy, good quality equipment.
Staff are polite but could be a little more engaging, car park is on the small side.
H. F.
Clean and new facilities. Family swim sessions on the small pool are great and not overly crowded. Lots of floating toys to keep kids engaged. But only a handful of the showers were working so lots of people queueing and shivering during changeover.
N. T.
Wish deyd put blow heaters to entrance of pool or plastic like supermarkets to rear of shop, to stop the draft from back of changing rooms wissling through, boltic especially when staff leave back door open at rear of changing rooms, if solved dat wud love this pool long time, espec as ruined halesowen

It was our first visit since the pandemic all though it was very busy (children's half term), we took our grandchildren. The facilities were very good and organized. The children enjoyed themselves and we shall be making return visits in the near future .
L. B.
I like the classes here - although they often get booked up, literally check on the day if there is something you want to do, 4 hours before, there will be a space. I like the aqua aerobics, purely from a mental health point of view, the classes are incredibly relaxing and I sleep well. I wish there were more of them
The negatives: 1) the car park is too small. Probably about 50% of the size it needs to be, the centre can't compete with the demands of parents and children doing swimming lessons and people doing classes between 4-7pm.
2) I went to a yoga class and it wasn't beginner friendly at all. I left after 20 minutes and don't think badly of myself for doing that. The instructors could try a lot harder with offering a range of moves and options between beginners and advanced practice. We don't all have to do the same thing, we just do what we can do and develop. You have to start somewhere but with an inaccessible class you can't.
3) Memberships! There is a £18 pm membership for FT students when paid upfront for 12 months. Its not advertised and not even the staff know it exists, just the membership manager. The lady at the desk was trying to sign me up to some £28 pm rolling deal. I'm glad I didn't sign up there and then and instead verified what I though the student package was

It's a great little local leisure centre. With 2 pools; a large main one and then a smaller toddler pool, making it great for families. There are swimming lessons throughout the week, and fun play sessions.
Upstairs there is a gym, and some studios for aerobic and gymnastic sessions.
Near by is Northfield high Street with some shops for essentials and coffee shops for those wanting to relax.
y. N.
The gym's cool but if There is more people u cant workout whatever u want
Gym is cool love it

Started back at the pool last week ,3 sessions so far and it's like I've never been away.all staff are brilliant and friendly. Great atmosphere.
M. R.
Go every day for swimming & gym both facilities are fantastic;the staff are so much & very good @ their job always friendly & welcoming
R. H.
Really fun swimming lessons for the kids, helpful staff and changing rooms and showers were great.
M. T.
Excellent. Clean and modern. Water is a nice temperature.
M. H.
I was just amazed at the new Northfield swimming baths.
Very helpful staff changing rooms fantastic, safe pool's all in all a very pleasant visit. I would recommend Northfield swimming baths
s. b.
Booked on line for tickets for slide and splash, arrived on time no issues at reception, my granddaughters and myself got changed on to the pool where we were told about the rules for ages on slide (life jacket if needed) had a great 45mins £12.85 in cost very reasonable, would of gave 5 stars but the vending machines were not priced and 1 wasn't working and reception closed.
p.
Great selection of kit in the gym area for cadio and weight training. Only been in the learner pool for a splash session with my son but it was good. Changing facilities are kept tidy and clean, helpful / friendly staff.

The facilities were clean, inflatable slide the kids loved. There were family changing rooms. There was a kiddie pool. Kids had fun
W. H.
Lovely leisure centre our kids are swimming lesson members and they love it. The facilities are kept clean and tidy. Only negatives are the phone lines can be hard to get through and there are only four baby change changing rooms so there's always a short fall before and after a baby swim class.
G. A.
Great centre, very clean, well organised and lovely facilities
M. H.

Helpful kind staff, nice and clean changing facilities. We went for a family session in the teaching pool which is ideal for the younger kids since the water is only 0.7m deep in the deepest end.

Great for swimming and the gym; always helpful staff.

Nice leisure centre with big parking and good friendly staff 🌸

Staff are friendly and the pool is very good, wish I could stay longer but understand why its limited to 55 mins during the pandemic, glad to be back!
B. B.
It’s OK. The classes are good. Female changing rooms have always been clean whenever I’ve used them. Massive shame they never replaced the sauna from the previous building. Agree with some others, the gym is too small for the membership size. You have to use at specific times to enjoy properly. When it’s full, it often gets smelly too so quite undesirable. Hardly ever get a parking spot. Can’t comment on swimming pool as don’t swim or kids stuff as don’t have any. I think they tried to cater to too many groups with the facilities. Would’ve been much better if they made a bigger gym with a health suite.
s. v.
Clean baths and my daughters swimming instructor is really good.
Decent sized car park but often a struggle to get a space though
M. T.
Excellent. Clean and modern. Water is a nice temperature.
a. o.
Great first time back everything is spaced out nice hand wipes spray and hand sanitizer every where, booked up on the more fit app and walked straight in loads of room and it's even better now as people who go want to use the gym rather then sitting on there phones trying to look pretty, really enjoyed it
L. W.
I brought my ASD son here today as his going to start swimming lessons when back at school, when we was outside my son started to have a meltdown about going in one of the swimming teachers Victoria saw what was happening and instead of just continuing to leave to go home she came over and was great with my son she helped calm his worries took him inside so he could see the pool and was just simply amazing thank you Victoria
J. J.
2 things let this place down. 1 lack of parking, and 2 lack of showers. There are 6 shower cubicles which just doesn't cut it when there are so many swimming lessons finishing at the same time. I must say that the disability accessible changing facilities are very very good
The pool is always cold they say it is 29° but it is not. I go to bromsgrove who say their pool is 29° and nice and warm
B. M.
Great for taking the little ones swimming. Never enough staff on at the reception, so the queue is usually quite long and takes a long time to go down. Not great when it goes out the doors into the rain. Also the water in the baby pool is quite cool, could be a little warmer.
K. J.
Great facility, very clean and well looked after. Aqua challenge is great fun but a bit pricey (just under £6 each for kids and just under for £8 adults) for 45 minute session... you get around 10 goes depending on how busy it is.
B. r.
These new facilities are exceptional with the low-cost of membership it’s a very inexpensive option to lots of the other health and fitness centres in the local area.
I enjoyed using both the swimming pool and the sauna and steam room the ex-council look is completely gone now it’s a modern updated vibrant building beautifully designed.
However the car park is pretty small and there is limited parking spaces nearby
N.
Queues to get in no access to changing rooms change children on the outbside of the pool area or rap the up and dry them at home if you don't feel comfortable but teachers are amazing
Update:
Changing rooms now accessible
Mask must be worn
S.
Very clean today with a nice pool temperature. The staff were helpful and lively. I loved the warm air as you enter the pool and the music playing in the background. The lifeguards were very vigilante but friendly in their request. Good job guys!
N. B.
The renovated Northfield centre is, overall, an excellent improvement on the previous building. The layout of the public areas is great and the equipment available is spot on. Staff at the centre are very friendly, professional and know their stuff. However, while all of these elements are perfect, the centre's car park REALLY spoils visits to the location. Most of the time, regardless of which day or which session, it is impossible to safely park your car. It's a real shame that whomever planned the building did not put more thought towards parking.
A. O.
This is a lovely and new leisure centre, great changing facilities, and lockers. They have two pools one 25m one and also a baby pool. They have a pool lift for people with special needs They could do with at least a coffee machine to supplement the two vending machines. I haven't used the gym upstairs so I can't comment on that. Also the car park is always full, there seems to be no time limit on parking so I suspect people maybe abusing the parking by staying all day. I hate to say it but maybe there should be some parking restrictions to free up a few extra spaces.
M. M.
We went swimming in family slot at 11am, it was great.
R. S.
Great centre with friendly staff, good classes and great instructors. I live flipping body jam here! If I had to mention the drawback, it would be the size of the car park and the size of the class studio. Spaces in both are a little limited, but it is clean, new and very nice.
M. J. (.
Good gym and beautiful pool. My son enjoyed the kids pool but it's only open for an hour on Sunday between 12:30pm and 1:30pm which is inconvenient for some parents. The car park is still small which hasn't changed but had a good experience. I still prefer cocks_moors_woods :)
L.
Only been swimming here with the little one. Baby pool is sometimes warm and sometimes cold. Instructors are friendly and gave us wonderful advice on introducing the baby to the pool. Biggest issue for me is the entrance help desk. My average wait time to pay is about 10 minutes often with only one or two people ahead. Once we where at the front, money In Hand, the lady spoke to us then went off to help someone else. Had to actually ask her to finish serving us!
J. T.
Visited the leisure centre for first time today for a swim and the first thing we noticed was how clean it was and lovely layout.
The staff where very attentive, polite and very helpful in guiding and supporting us especially myself as I am in a wheelchair so had a lot of needs and questions.
My carer went free too.
They have a chair hoist , a pod and shallow steps into the pool. The pod isn't working at present but least they had another option in place. The disabled changing room is directly by the pool and with the aid of a poolside wheelchair it made the visit go smoothly. The only negative was that the water was quite chilly and so was the changing room which caused a little difficulty as the cold affects me but I still award them 5 stars 🌟
M. T.
Good place for all age group
N. M.
Car park is small. 3 showers have been not working for at least 2 month now, which is very annoying as the kids come out of the cold water and can not warm up. Too many kids needing a shower at the same time.
C. B. B.
couldn't learn to swim so they kicked me out :(
J. M.
Much better since it’s been renovated 👍🏼
A. W.
Superb staff highly recommend wonderful aqua fit classes run by Carole and yoga classes run by Jon. Very high standard of instruction and all the facilities are excellent only comment they need a wring extractor for
the wet swimming costumes which are available at other swimming baths. This wouldn’t
cost a lot l have mentioned this at reception and so have other people but nothing has been done yet
B. C.
Went for a early morning swim toward the end of lockdown. The system for getting customers into the water while keeping everyone covid secure ran like clockwork. Obviously with covid it's not running like everyone wants but they have still managed to make it a comfortable experience to use their services
S. H.
Lessons have restarted. Great to have the baths open again if only for lessons. Friendly and helpful instructors.
L. L.
Really like swimming here. The place is really clean and life guards are always friendly... ashame about the reception staff though....I don't think I've ever had 1 of them say good morning/afternoon or even goodbye on leaving. The few times I've had to engage with them has been painful (especially when they talk to you as there rolling there eyes ) I don't no who recruited the reception staff for Northfield, but let's just say there customer service is NIL on reception and if you can get them to even look at you never mind speak....well then your a better person than me.! I've been trying for over a year now 3/4 times a week and nothing...it's the worst thing about the place...shame really as reception is your 1st port of call. Miserable girls/women ...not a good 1st impression. I hope they read this....they might all crack a smile now and again!!....maybe not 😂
K. G. (.
Not a large gym but a good selection of equipment and classes on offer for a reasonable membership fee. The centre has recently undergone a face-lift so all the equipment is new and you can even get Netflix on the running machines 👍🏼 The pool is a good size and the staff are friendly
A. S.
Very clean and staff were very helpful. My children loved it and want to go back.
V. B.
Great new swimming baths and leisure centre - huge improvement on the old building.
Variety of lessons and clubs and both children are starting swimming lessons soon.
Always clean and pool is not too cold.
C. J.
I've been back at swimming since lockdown at Northfield and it has been great. Book online for an hour slot. One way system in place so exit is out onto car park. There are no lockers or changing rooms so all belongings left at side of pool.
J. D.
My granddaughters are learning to swim here. The instructors are enthusiastic and the girls love it. Only downside is that the viewing area is too small for the parents, carers, grandparents etc
A. S.
I go to the gym most mornings and is good to train in I cant speak for other times but when driving past the car park is packed. I have been told the classes are good too. Staff are willing to help.
n. w.
It's a bit too wet for my liking.
K. L.
Love the new build. Just need to tweak the front desk and entrance system to keep the queues down.. a suggestion of tickets you can scan, a card you can top up and scan... Then 5* be more than worthy
L. V.
Pool is lovely. Sometimes a little cold!
B. D.
Great facilities for swimming and fitness with lovely staff. Shame it doesn't have spin
T. D.
Brilliant small pool for kids
J. N.
Clean convenient and friendly staff. Does what you need it to for a reasonable price.
S. F.
A nice gym, high quality machines, friendly staff and opens at 6 am what more do you want 😀
S. W.
This is not a bad facility to use, whether it is for the pool or the gym. Northfield has one of the biggest swimming pools in Birmingham and is quite popular because of this.
You have to check online for the pool timetable before you leave to go swimming, as there are swimming lessons or women only sessions.
The gym is pleasant enough. A little on the small side but it isn't too compact.
n. b.
Very good social distancing guidelines feel very safe and glad to be back all staff are lovely x
A. F.
Fantastic complement to the Northfield town, provides state-of-the-art facilities within a modern setting, swimming facility comes with separate learner pool, with free parking available, located within easy reach from high street, plenty of fitness programme, reasonable prices.
s. d.
Good that you have to book in, however I believe people know how to override the booking system so it became busy towards the end of my session.
P. M.
Clean bright and warm on a gloomy rainy day!
L. F.
Went here to do lane swimming, it was really good wasn't over packed, showers were great also.
A. R.
I love the baby splash sessions here. I have to take my 2 children on different days as unable to monitor both together but that's ok as always nice to attend the sessions and some days busier than others.
M. M.
Fantastic place to swim it's a must place to go and join
S. A.
We had a great time here. Very modern facilities, but the car park gets a bit full, so be prepared to pay on a nearby one instead.
R. W. -. R. C. (. R.
Best time to go 1/3pm
P. E.
Modern and clean - clear that it's been invested in.
B. I.
£6.20 a days membership very good value plus u can use the massive pool at no extra cost.. good gym facilities.. only thing extra ide like is more weight options bigger bar sizes so i can dead lift etc.. apart from that well worth it.. a shame its only open till 4.30 on sat and sun would of been better if opend later those days..
D. P.
Loved it, love that they suggest to take shoes off than wearing plastic outer wear to reduce use of plastic.
I.
Honest opinion? It's dead, if you're someone who's just coming to do cardio and use treadmill, then it's alright but the variety is whack. You will find Pure Gym in Longbridge better with its equipment, it's got an upstairs with more equipment too
서.
It's a good exsise plays in place.
A. L.
Lovely new leisure centre..needs more staff on the reception at busy times..pool great but the lane markers are too close together it's difficult to pass another swimmer without colliding..staff lovely and helpful..
M. K.
Very well organised, made the parents sit on chairs poolside but was right by the windows, especially on a hot day!
T. C.
Take my son to swimming lessons and he really enjoys it. The teachers are friendly and the pool and changing areas are clean and tidy
H. D.
Excellent fitness centre, clean and presentable. Gym has all the latest equipment and for the 'average joe'
A. B.
A very good place but everything isn't sized to what it would be like. What I mean is the place is big but doesn't use it well and it's pretty small inside. Apart from that it's pretty good
K. G.
I use the gym and baths and have attended some of the fitness classes. My only criticism is how cold the changing rooms are after a swim especially for babies and children
M. L.
Very clean and friendly, i bring my child for swimming lessons here, staff are professional and approachable. Would highly recommend.
Z. K.
Because that very rip off price.. they are too much charge. If child not go swimming lesson must pay still... i try tell cancel...they said must date it and must pay one more end of month. Waste money selfish
T. M.
Very nice new building and all new equipment, staff very pleasant to. Not used the pool so can't say about that but looks very nice to.
J. J.
Pretty nice staff are friendly and relaxing at non peak times however they do allow to pool to get very full at peak times.
C. S.
Great facilities. Pools are brilliant.
C. O.
It's modern, bright and clean, but the pool is not large enough and no steam / sauna.
S. C.
Fab all round. Loving Aqua Tone and Senior 50+ The gym is relaxed and I love it - never been a sporty person but I cannot get enough. 👍
R. M.
Parking here is a pain but other than that it's great.
L. a.
I think it's great me and my friends go every week or so and it is just fantastic an a hot day the only thing I would say is that it can get a bit cramped
K. B.
Good gym facilities.
J.
I go here about 5 times a week love the staff they are all welcoming and a great place too work out 5 stars from me.
J. T.
Great place for fitness and swimming. Very reassuring measurements put into place during this pandemic.
R. C.
Popular with the locals and also training venue for the Birmingham synchronised swimming team. Good hygiene with helpful staff
P. W.
So helpful love victoria on reception and mariska x
M. E.
Nice and clean, just don't get long in the pool for your money only one hour or half hour sessions
J. E.
Good facilities. But like most other comments on here - (some) awful reception staff really let the place down.
j. s.
Clean and new. Staff on front desk need some help. Life guards seem very young and not always attentive.
A. S.
A pool sized so satisfactorily I was able to stroke up and down repeatedly to the point wherein I made my due exit my arms were aching and throbbing
B. A.
They never answer the phones when I need to know opening times then I just turn up and they say something is on carnt go in pool then I say why haven't you answered the phone they say we been busy I doubt it in 3 hours of ringing walked in called them there and then you can hardly hear the phone like they have turned it right down
A. P.
Really nice pool now it's been done up nice staff and a good gym
S. D.
Great location for a kids party. Although the staff were very keen for people to leave at the end!
a. l.
Took the son for a swimming lesson, facilities are very good but parking spaces very limited
C. M.
Old building was better. Expect to be waiting 20+ minutes even if there is only 1 person infront of you in the queue
O. F.
Kids loved it
