Reviews of Rollerworld & Laser Quest
L. C.
We went here as a party of 12 to go laser quest
Staff were very accommodating and helpful in explaining all the rules
So much fun to be had once you're dressed up in your laser pack with a gun in your hand. Arena is pretty big with plenty of hiding places, I was sneaking around like a ninja taking it quite seriously. Suitable for all ages.
Free car parking, food and drink served on site.
R.
Took my daughter here and she loved it, so much so going back again this weekend.
On arrival it had been over booked so we had a short delay, however we were given free skating for 15mins while we waited. Decent “laser arena” would recommend 👍🏻

Visited here after finding the venue through Google, I’m so impressed after never having tried roller skating before I had an absolute blast here! Fell over a few times but all part of the fun, friendly staff and really cool variety of music and good loud sound system, great atmosphere too. Look forward to coming back! Cheap prices..Thanks
J. B.
First time there. Easy to find. Free parking.
Very helpful, friendly, engaging staff in all areas.
Very clean everywhere. Lots of people who couldn't skate, as well as those who very obviously very experienced.
Good music, lights etc.
Food and drinks available. The four of us enjoyed a great two hours - if exhausting.
Highly recommended for all age groups (I'm 70). Good value for money.

Absolutely brilliant! First time visiting the venue, the rink/surface was superb, the music was banging! the drinks were cold and refreshing, and the staff were friendly and helpful.
Have told my skater friends and am looking forward to going back this coming Saturday.
Don't tell anyone I fell over twice! 😂
J. R.
Really fun afternoon, staff on the door and in the kitchen were friendly and helpful, the guy on the skates less so. Good atmosphere, relaxed skate session with quieter music suitable for all. Took 8-yr-old who thoroughly enjoyed her first time on skates. Skate shop is decent for quads, inlines and skateboards plus accessories. A good afternoon of family fun.
G. B.
Such a great venue for adults and children alike. They offer games at regular intervals during the day and a roller disco at night. Pay once and stay as long as you like (11am5pm) for the day session.
Food on site isn't unreasonably priced, though expect to get thirsty, skating is hard work.
There's now an outside party which is still accessed with skates. Handy to cool down.
A marshall is on the rink at all times.
Recommended!

I came to rollerworld quasar at the ripe age of 21 to celebrate my birthday. It was honestly such a good and memorable experience, with a particular staff member called “Milky” who is too damn good at his job. He was friendly and energetic and even played on the opposite team during one game- we got absolutely obliterated but I didn’t even mind as he made the game so fun and competitive for an older age range from 21 to 49! Would highly recommend to anyone young or old.

1st time at Rollerworld...friendly helpful staff, nice spacious smooth rink..and good tunes playing.

Amazing fun on a day you want to stay away from the cold wind. The staff is very friendly. The venue is heated. There's a food court on site ( burgers, hot dogs, jacket potatoes etc). There's staff on the rink at all times, making sure everyone is safe. Free carpark. Clean toilets. The skates are sprayed after each use to prevent fungal infections. Definitely recommend it and we will go back.

First time here with my grandson. Car park is free always a bonus these days! Staff were lovely and it certainly has a vibrant/loud atmosphere in the place. Everyone enjoying themselves falling over lol!
Place looks a bit tired & ladies toilets could do with a proper hand drier! My pet hate no decent coffee and cold drinks are a fortune £2.50!
Grandson had a wail of a time did I put a pair of skates on? Not on your nelly!
S. D.
Great day had by all the mid Suffolk mutts

I wasn't actually sure how many stars to give Rollerworld, it's a bit of a head scratcher this one, it's good and bad, allow me to take you through it;
I grew up going to Rollerworld, before we all found nightclubs as teens, Rollerworld was our place, we ruled and loved it, every weekend, it played a large part in our youth, so a lot of good memories, I have recently returned to my glory days, a couple pre-covid and the rest post-Covid, but there's no point in talking about Pre-covid Rollerworld, so here are the good and bad points about post-Covid Rollerworld
GOOD
The rink itself is still in great condition, lovely to skate on and a great size.
The sound and lighting is impressive, really creates an atmosphere when It gets going.
Not bad food and drink options
Saturday night bar drinks are cheap
Icecream vendor with good flavours.
Price has gone up but still reasonable-ish.
Can still skate up to 5 hours on one entry.
BAD
Everything inside is well over priced, a drink from a vending machine is £2.50, not to mention price of food.
The place itself could do with an update.
The lockers still swallow your 20p, with the price of everything I think it's naughty that they make money this way too.
The smoke machine is more like someone vaping these days, no much smoke at all.
Have to wear masks when not skating, I know that not there fault but it still sucks!
Toilets need a massive upgrade, they are like the toilets in Secondary Schools in the 90's.
They really need to invest in new boots, even the bowling alley here in Colchester have new bowling shoes, I swear they are the same Roller boots from 25 years ago.
Bar has to shut at 10pm, not there fault but whatever!
Watch out for the mystery bottle of antibac that shows up on your bill if you book online, it's £2.50 and you have to physically delete it.
Rollerworld has lost its magic, and I think it needs to pull a few tricks to get itself back to its former glory, but then the world has changed, hasn't it, maybe rollerworld has had its day, but i really hope not, Colchester wouldn't be the same without it.

I took my son for his birthday, not a party just a day out, I go to lots of family days out and in these kind of places the food is always way over priced and horrible. BUT the food was amazing proper chicken In the nuggets, I had a half pounder with cheese it was very good. It was expensive but that is how they make their money, as for the skating was so much fun with lots of families also having fun, there were all sorts of stakers there from beginners to show offs. My son loved it, we will definitely be going again.
H. S.
Me and my mates went to roller world sat just gone for my birthday 🎂 we had the best time!! We skated then went on to the karaoke room and we had so much fun we have never laughed so much! The staff were great and very helpful. Food was good and reasonably price. All in all we had the best evening x will be going again soon!
A. L.
This is all based on laser quest!
Went as a group of 5 the staff were very friendly. Marshal(?) Explained the game to us all so we were confident in what we were doing.
We all thoroughly enjoyed the game (even one of us with autism and the loud music) it was a lot of fun and we can't wait to go again.
It's surprisingly tiring despite there being no running!
I highly recommend everyone try it. You get a sheet at the end that breaks down who you hit and where and who hit you where. Which is super fun and we all compared these at the end.
L. P.
Really good ,kids really enjoyed it , only the skate to hire are a little bit off key.
M. F.
Monday night adult skate lesson. Lovely friendly atmosphere with plenty of help on hand. We learnt a lot & had a good skate practice too. Looking forward to our next visit.
T. E.
Took our son tonight! He had a great time. I would like to say that the 3 young men were amazing who were staff members were amazing.
F. M.
Security and the steward and the staff were absolutely 💯 👌🏾 superb ive already booked for another session 👏 ❤ loved it . Dj was smashing the best tunes ever..... customer's were all friendly to each other I came out so happy 30 years out of the game I'm now a reborn veteran ha ha 😂
C. J.
Brilliant night out on a Friday. Brilliant DJ playing a great mix of tunes, loved the lighting! Better than a club! Kids loved it too! Shall be going back very soon!
m. k.
Having been to concerts such as Metallica, Megadeth, metal church, and stormtroopers of death, I found the volume of the PA system today to be of a similar volume. My daughter complained the entire hour and a half and we finally left early because it was so awful.
J. R.
Went for daughters 18th Birthday. Great afternoon. Was very quiet so virtually had the place to ourselves for the first hour. Covid rules very good temp check at door, masks at all times in communal areas.
M. C.
Actually really fun to go to, staff very helpful and friendly and polite. I took my nephews here 7,8 one didnt enjoy it to much but the other did ( mind you we all kept falling down haha!) As a 31 year old just be careful don't try to show off or you fall and hit your bum as hard as I did and hurt my tail bone so I'm having to rest up loads now ! :')
g.
Great bit of exercise to knacker the kids out. Good fun and family oriented.
J. N.
Helpful friendly staff, only at 25'% capacity so plenty of room for social distancing. Enjoyed the roller disco complete with dry ice. Great on site skate shop too.
G. W.
I went to Rollerworld after locked down.
I was extremely proud that Rollerworld stayed afloat through lockdown.
I went just before we went into tier 3 and I'm pleased that I had my temperature checked and was still told that I couldn't mix and match with other households after that day as were going into tier 3, I went in an open skate where theres no flashing lights, but still good music and have an very open area to skate on.
There wasnt many people there probably around 3 other parties (not actual parties but small amount of people 1-4 people within households)
They had hand sanitizer for us as we walked in and still allowed us to have skate hire.
I cant fault this place I've been here since I was a kid and I still enjoy it.
P. A.
My daughter and I love to skate here every Thursday. I am looking forward to the new owners listening to their loyal customers to make a visit value for money. My daughters friends are voting with their feet and staying away due to the cost and reduction in atmosphere, games, new ideas etc.
L. A.
Amazing fun was had by all the family. There were games and staff on site were happy to help. Will definitely visit again.
S. C.
We live over an hour from this venue but it was well worth the car journey. The staff were very freindly and helpfull for both the skating and the Quasar especially when they heard we travelled to get there. The rink is massive! One of the largest in europe i'm told which means there's plenty of room to skate with out bumping into other people. We went on a Saturday around mid day and although it was busy because of it's size the rink didn't feel crowded as smaller rinks can.
The facilaties were all clean and tidy and well looked after. The music and light show were also very good and added to the atmosphere and there were a couple of games aswell with prizes. The food and drinks were good with out much of a que and you can pay by card without a minimum spend, which is nice to see, although the food was a little bit pricey. There are loads of lockers around the rink aswell, so for 20p you don't need to worry about you stuff being taken even you valuables, phone wallet etc, would be quite safe. Lastly there's a well stocked skate shop with a nice display of everything "rollerskate" you could need. Thankyou Rollerworld, a great day out.
b.
Never been dissapointed when taking the children here. The staff are all friendly and helpful. The children always have such fun whizzing round on skates and joining in with the games. The disco part is fab and their little faces when the lights go down and disco starts is just priceless. The children were well supervised whilst skating by friendly staff members and any accidents or falls (which is to be expected) were dealt with quickly and effectively. We do not eat in the Cafe but just brought drinks for the children (slushies) which i did not feel were overpriced compared to other childrens places ive visited.
K. H.
Good large rink, free parking, friendly staff. Also an excellent place to have skating lessons.
E. K.
A large purpose built smooth wooden skating arena with a modest cafeteria and bar. It's stood the test of time and been open for years. The staff are friendly, it's a good venue for a fun family jolly. You can hire skates or bring your own.
d. h.
New management are trying new things all the time - what works they keep, what doesn't thay change.
Staff always pleasant and helpfull. Best of all they have brought in new monthly or three monthly passes allowing unlimited visits which makes it great value for money even if you go just twice a week.
W. M.
Where to start? Whilst it was good fun, with a very large rink there were certainly downsides to my experience
Very loud music and flashing lights make it almost impossible for beginners to concentrate
Cafe serves burgers, chips but not much else.
Bizzare opening times
A. P.
Great place for roller skating with a large purpose built maple wood rink. The Quasar arena on-site is good fun too in its own right. Choose your time carefully to get the best value also arrive early to avoid being stuck in the long and slow moving queue and missing the early doors entry prices.
J. O.
So busy today 2 feb 2019 very dirty people eating in incorrect place ..lots of coats ect trip hazards.
So many people in its hard yo skate around.
Smelt extremly greasy today not sure if extract was working in the cafe but stunk alot
M. C.
Love the place. Nice big skate arena
Looks to be purpose built for rollerskating. Has everything,
takeaway bar, licence bar and skate
Shop for all your bits.
My opinion needs later closing
Time hence 4 stars.
C. K.
Great day out ,loverly skating surface and good service 👍🏾
W. M.
Ok but overpriced because of lack of competetion. A 3 yr old pays same as an adult. No food allowed, they search bags which is just over the top. There is no great choice of food in their little shop. If there was competetion then things will be a lot better.
D. M.
Nice place but £6 just to watch is a rip off .Will go to maldon next time our grandson wants to go. It's free there
B. H.
Nice place but can't believe that after paying £30 odd pound for the children to skate we also had to pay 0.9o to sit in a very expensive cafe and also could not get a cup of tap water as it is company policy not to allow this. Very sad.
G. E.
Great place, been comming here since I was a kid and still love it. Really freindly and helpful staff and you are garenteed to allwayse have a good time.
R. J.
Great fun and they've got new blades in. A tad expensive.
j. a.
Good fun
d. s.
Quaser is classic , never gets old , always good fun , however I was discussed with the food they sell for the price they ask , looks like it come straight out a microwave , really need to update menu and prices , such a shame really 😔, £2.50 for a coke 😱😱😱
J. S.
Good clean facility. Only complaint is that you can't get a breakdown of your score (I.e. kills, deaths, times you hit enemy base) which was dissapointing.
K. E.
80s v 90s night. Drove an hour to go, only to be confronted with an hour queue to get in and bag searched for food and drinks bottles. Nice big rink
K. M.
The roller world and laser was great, kids loved it.....however, shame about a certain manager being grumpy and rude as hell!! Not good customer service for a manager!!
We wanted our money refunded for the long wait time on the food, the manager looked like she wanted to kill us for it!!
M. W.
Very good , staff were doing everything to keep everyone as safe as possible in this pandemic. Lots of cleaning, keep up the good work
D. G.
Great place. Staff looked after us really well.
J. C.
I had a lot of fun but it is slightly dated now, I am not sure if that is part of the charm, lovely cocktail bar around the corner called Charlie's for some Dutch courage!!
E. M.
Usually I have a good time, but the DJ keeps playing the same old songs over and over again. And there were too many people on the rink!
Z. G.
I love to skate there and it is so amazing there but for a 14 year old who hasn’t got much money it’s to expensive £9.90 for one session is way to much
M. M.
Very fun
But after a couple hours it's starts to hurt your feet 😂
J.
We often go down on weekends with friends, nice staff, good music, skate hire and tools to maintain your own skates
A. G.
