Reviews of Carnegie Leisure Centre
K. M.
Amazing local council leisure centre with services provided by Fife council. There is a main pool and a junior pool and a fantastic climbing wall room. Fantastic gym facilities with indoor multipurpose courts available for hire as well as squash courts. Amazing cafe and climbing frame play area for kids to be kept entertained while adults enjoy a coffee and a cake 🧁 kids snacks available too. All housed in a beautiful old building.
O. F.
When I was about 5 ich I went here 1 or 2 times a week it really helped recommend for swimming lessons. You can book to swim for 1 hour. The staff are nice, there's barely any vandalism and I some what feel safe there. Some times. Recommend going
P. M.
I've been going to the gym for many years and on Monday I asked for help with technique and other exercises I could do to strengthen bone density. Barry was so, approachable, helpful and knowledgeable. He showed me different exercises and tweaked ones I was already doing. He was visible in the gym walking around checking everything. A great service!
J. F.
I only visit to use the health suite. On my last visit the jacuzzi spa stopped working and I was informed by a frequent user that you need to inform a member of staff as it happens regularly.
Edit in response to response from owner -
I know it is on a timer. 7 mins on then 7 mins off I believe if memory serves. This is to allow a cleaning cycle, again, if memory serves.
On this occasion the cleaning cycle ran for around 25minutes,maybe longer. Another spa user had to go inform a member of staff.
Thanks.
A. H.
Great wee pool for toddlers but could do with a few more things for them to play with. The elephant slide is good though
D. F.
Attended church.
Winners Chapel hire a room at this venue .
We attended a day conference.
Informative and friendly.
E. L.
Jacuzzi isn't working, showers only one side was working some lockers swallow your money before even locking it. Swimming pool seems to he extremely busy ends up doing traffic light system. Not very enjoyable the last few times I've been
A. R.
Go there to swim in the morning. Lovely facilities. We'll maintained and very clean.
m. c.
Great gym. Great staff. But annoyed that you pay for gym and swim membership. Which I enjoyed going swimming after work at carnegie. But they've basically now stopped you using the pool at certain times and let swimming lessons take over the pool. Yes fair enough there's other pools you can use under fife council. But not handy if you can't travel.
G. M.
Swimming pools, changing facilities and showers are great and the staff are all friendly and very helpful
L. R.
A good pool if you only want to swim. No wave machine and no flumes. The off-putting thing though is that the bottom of the main pool always seems to have stuff strewn all over it. The bottom of the pool is filthy and needs a very good cleaning.
J. P.
Great facility. Bookable swim lanes have been very much appreciated (and well used) so it will be interesting to see how busy the pool is after the rules change on the 16th. Helpful, friendly staff.
One small point; no water in the open gym today and there has been no water in the area outside the large sports hall for a few weeks. Not one thing we're short of in Scotland, just in the centre. Easily rectifiable surely.
M.
The whole place is very clean I really enjoy swimming there😊 People working there are friendly and polite
J. G.
Good size, good selection of activities.
Downside is the cleanliness of the changing rooms, the ones in close vicinity of the pillars stink of mould to the point that it is unhealthy to be close.
Toilets also often closed out of order for long periods of time.
Both my boys have attended swimming lessons for a long time, their main coaches have always been great. Some of the substitute coaches do not take their jobs seriously enough, which is rather disappointing when you see the coach being more concerned about her coffee than the kids in the pool.
b.
visit the gym here frequently, staff are always pleasant and helpful and it’s never too busy
P.
Had an induction in the gym today and really liked what I saw. Was a bit apprehensive about going first but was made to feel really comfortable and welcomed pretty much straight away. Staff couldn't have been any more helpful, fantastic group. I look forward to spending a lot more time there.
J. C.
Good pool. Both for adults and non swimmers.
R. F.
Great place, very friendly staff!
Pool is a little cold! :)
S. G. P.
Nice pool... a bit busy and the best pool is always shut, but, it's clean and the showers are awesome, plenty of them.
T. T.
Considering it's age and lack of dedicated parking this centre operates remarkably efficiently at maintaining customer satisfaction. The staff are extremely pleasant and helpful, which obviously reflects well on their management team.
R. D.
The baby pool is rather cold. My 3 month old leaves shivering and nearly blue. Not enough baby changing areas with the changing tables for everyone attending the swimming lesson which is a bit strange. Had to balance my 3 month old on the bench in a normal changing room after lesson to get him dry - not ideal
N. P. (.
Always clean and always fun! Love the swimming pool!
j. m.
Great to see good one way system in place for changing rooms and lots of cleaning. However did not enjoy my swim. I think 8 in a lane is too many when some swim fast and some slower. The fast swimmers race past quite close and I really felt quite uncomfortable as there was a lot of splashing.
b. t.
Free swimming for the kids during the summer holidays. The cafe sells good food at really good prices.
A. S.
Aqua fit with Vicky on a Tuesday morning she is excellent. 👍
S. H.
Excellent leisure centre in middle of town.
G. B.
A review of the soft play only.
The soft play is a very decent size, plenty of room for kids to play in. The price is very good for an hour's play, two kids cost me £5.40. The café is nothing fancy but it is fairly priced and offers something for everyone, the service in the cafe was very good.
Warning, there is no direct parking at the leisure centre so plan accordingly.
P. D. (.
My daughter and I had a great time in the baby pool and every area we were in was clean and tidy. The only down sides were that it was very cold between exiting the pool and the changing room and the shower was too hot, my 2 year old really struggled to get hair washed etc. It won't put us off going back as our overall experience was that we had great fun
C. M.
The facilities are good. Can't fault them. In all honesty what's holding my review back is the price, I feel for what you're getting it's a little over priced. Also recently I've been trying to book to use the climbing wall but have been told because I haven't climbed there before I need to do an induction (though I have climbed elsewhere before) however these are only done twice a week at very specific times that don't always suit me and when I was booked but just 5 minutes late I was told I would have to rebook. How much could I possibly have missed in that first 5 minutes. A good leisure centre but nothing special and a few anecdotal problems holding my review down
V. H.
Seems fine. Baby pool is adequate
A. F.
Great council run leisure centre. My daughter loves it. 3 pools including infant pool with slide, gym, squash and badminton courts plus spa facilities. There are a range of fitness classes available too. It also has a cafe with a soft play.
C. B.
Fine for badminton courts. Directions and parking are a bit awkward though. Recommend parking up at the retail park next door (with b&q) that gives up to 3 hours parking.
B. B.
Very disappointed at the "£1 a go car" right at the front door. The council should think shame for this pester power on parents.
J. P.
Very clean and well-managed establishment . The staff are all lovely. There's lots on offer for all ages and genders .
d.
A fair leisure centre in the town centre. I have experienced this pool in the 3 major phases of its life. In the 70's learing to swim in the old Vitorian pool, the 80's after major renovations and the addition of a larger second pool, and now after reopening in 2014 after another major renovation. This latest renovation, has made access a little better for disabled people, the overall quality of the execution leaves a lot to be desired.
The reception area, complete with coffee shop and kids play area is very nice, quite spacious and always has a friendly vibe. However, moving through to the mixed changing area is very much more austere, with painted concrete block walls and a little gloomy, although it is kept quite cleen, it does have an air of being done on a shoestring budget. I remember the previous renovation having much more of a 'wow' factor. This is definatly a downgrade in terms of look.
Most staff are friendly but another victim of the shoestring budget has been the heathsuite. A fantastic facility with steam room, sauna and spa bath, but also a laconium, which is a very welcome addition. Unfortunatly, there have been a lot of breakdowns in the healthsuite which can take a long time to be repaired. The latest is the spa pool, where the stairs leading up to it collapsed in march 2018 and it was closed. On the 5th november 2018 the whole healthsuite has now been closed to repair the spa. Quite an unacceptable length of time to wait for repairs, especially if you are paying a membership. Managements attitude is to simply say 'go to another leisure centre'.
There is a gym upstairs which I belive is well equiped although I have never used it.
On the whole, a nice facility which suffers a bit from its latest renovation. Definatly worth using though. If you go during the school holidays, the old Victorian pool area is open to the public, Although the pool is all new, you can enjoy the old victorian columns round the pool and try and spot other bits from the past.
Update 19/02/2019
Good news, the heath suite has now reopened and all systems are go! New lighting fitted in the steam room and laconium. New flooring down in the showers and of course, the spa bath is back.
E. I.
As leisure centres go I'd say Carnegie leisure centre is very good. Lots of studios for classes and large hall for indoor sports. Good swimming areas too.
d. w.
Amazingly lovely facilities and amazingly lovely staff.
M. B.
Swimming lessons. Very well-organised for these taking place in the pandemic. Feels safe. Swimming instructors are good. All in all, a good experience.
A. M.
I have just joined the leisure centre recently and use the gym, swimming pool and health suite. My experience so far has been nothing but extremely good. The staff are very helpful and I have enjoyed every visit I have made.
S. B.
Staff could be more helpful. One child had forgotten swimming lessons ticket to allow free entry, I provided name/ address etc they did allow entry but unwillingly & said if it happened again there would be a charge.
A. P. (.
Good swimming pool. Friendly staff
C. G.
Good centre. Nice sized swimming pool. Always some areas closed though. Considering it's been refurbished I'd expect he finishing to be better. Has a cafe and soft play both of which are good.
R. C.
Went swimming forgot my pound coin for the locker the swimming pool attendant was nice to exchange 20p coins to a pound since I already got dressed in my swimming shorts.
L. F.
I have been a member of the Gym, health suite and pool for nearly 1 year.
The gym has recently been renovated and is very good quality indeed and I like the facilities and how they have preserved a very nice old swimming pool building....
The place is good value for money but there two key improvements the management at fife council need to consider very seriously.
1). Customer service at the reception can sometime be rude, ignorant and unhelpful and it can really leave people feeling upset, just as the other reviewers have stated. Customer service is far better at Duloch centre.
2). I down graded my membership so to no longer use the health suite. The reason for this was the ungentlemenly behavior of others members who believe they can swear and Be very inconsiderate extreme foul language amongst other members. 3 times I complained, no meaningful action was taken, no change of behavior was noted. No warning notices were placed
All in all, I prefer to support not for profit facilities like this that support the community. However, PureGym will compete for business in the area now and so customer is critical to maintainIng your members!
R. M.
Cheap compared to (s.e. england) bit why do people chat all lined up at the end of the fast lane in the pool? Must be a Dim-fermline thing. Cleanest, clearest waster I've swim in for a while. Nice staff.
N. H.
Good gym and health suite
C. M. B. (.
I used the pool. Not very crowded but from the pool until the changing room has a cold air..
C. G.
The swimming pool is not too bad ,on the other hand the lifeguards need to put a smile on their face they are the most miserable looking people in the world. If the lifeguards don't want to be there find another job ...
B. P.
Went to an aquarobics class, was fantastic
G. D.
Staff in reception are excellent and do all they can to sort any issues, and always with a smile.
C. S.
I go twice a week to the aqua aerobics with Vicky the trainer and it's a great workout and she motivates you and makes it fun, there is 3 pools and they are doing up the health suite at the moment
D. H.
Great facilities only let down by the Antarctic changing rooms. Please sort the pool changing area and ensure the temperature isn't sub zero.
A. R.
I do like Carnegie gym for the layout and the equipment. The fitness instructors are all really welcoming, friendly and helpful to everyone. I recently got a free pass to Banantyne's gym we couldn't find a fitness instructor for over 15 minutes and when we did she didn't even know what an airbike or skierg machine was (they are not new on the market or hi tech equipment so any fitness instructor should know what they are. After all this Banantyne's didn't even have these cardio/ resistance machines yet a public gym has them! I have to say I am happy with Carnegie gym and having been to most of the public gyms in fife it is the best for its size, range of equipment and friendly staff
S. P.
Great gym, climbing wall and lots of other sports and fitness clubs to join
D. n.
Good varied selection of well maintained gym equipment. Poor parking facilities (no parking facilities. Use limited time at B&Q or Tesco at your own risk)
D. S.
Wasn't sure about this place until I gave it a try. I use it as my main gym now, staff are friendly and the gym facility has a wide variety of equipment to use. The equipment looks new and fun to use.
V. H.
Went to the soft play area. Seems very good. Only problem we found was the tables available aren't enough. Could do with a few more
S. M.
i let my daughters go swimming all the time and they come back and say the love it. Also i wen you with them today and i was very pleased to say that it was a blast
S. E.
The main thing that really lets the centre down is the cafe, it's very overpriced, food is poor quality, tables often messy and there is no clear pricing on many items so you end up paying far too much for a small snack, question the prices and the server is lazy, rude and dismissive, even to children who don't understand the prices, much better to use the vending machines, cheaper, faster service and with much less attitude.
J. A.
Great leisure centre.
C. D.
Very helpful staff my child had learned to swim
A. M. (.
Nice swimming pool. Baby pool can be a bit chilly but not too bad. Showers are nice and its a generally nice feeling swimming pool.
A. F.
I haven't used probably about 90% of this place so bear that in mind. The soft play here is fantastic, so much larger than others in the area.
L. D.
Loved it 😍
Didn't even know the place existed but will definitely be back!
M. R.
Opens on 14sept after covid lockdown ,staff cleaning like crazy, going to be limited access and social distance measures but looking good
G. A.
Good swimming pool and keep fit facilities it was clean and staff were very friendly cafe was a bit pricey
S. G.
After a lovely visit 2 weeks ago, let down on Friday by a messy, hairy floor in the changing rooms, so glad I wear flip flops, really bad hygiene
G. B.
Great facilities, a number of gyms, squash courts, health spa and many other things on the site.
J. C.
Very good visit, generally nice swimming pool but very busy in school holidays, nice racket sports equipment
D. T.
Many activities held everyday. Very busy though.
G. S.
Swimming facilities are good with plenty of attendants, changing facilities on the whole are clean any issues are dealt with promptly.
R. A.
Would be 5 stars but the baby pool is freezing cold way way too cold for taking young babies in
P. A.

J. B.

A. P.
Love this leisure centre .so many classes ,activities to partake in .staff are so friendly and most heĺpfuĺll..highly recommend this centre
M. B.
Hit or miss whether you get everything you paid for. Health suite barely functions at 100%. If it's not that, it's the pool, or the showers, or the drinking fountain...
B. S.
While the refit was needed, walking to the pool from the changing rooms behind a builder with mud falling off his boots onto the plastic matting limits the rating.
D. B.
Centre great, has everything you might want to try, polo, synchronised swimming, climbing wall, gym, dancing, etc.
D. I.
Very efficient at cleaning all gym equipment. Staff very helpful and friendly.
W. A.
