Reviews of Making Waves Swim School
My ten year old daughter loves her swimming lessons at Making Waves and we have seen her make great progress. All teachers she has had have been superb with her. My elder children went to other council run pools but this is head and shoulders above what we experienced with them. Teacher often in pool to ensure she is learning technique correctly. The pool, changing rooms, cafe and other public areas are immaculate and lifeguards very attentive and I can even enjoy a lovely coffee and cake while i watch on. Five star experience!!!
I have been attending lessons at this fabulous facility for a number of months now and I cannot recommend it enough. Initially we started with my 4yo twins and now with all 3 of my kids.
Not only is the place immaculate, meticulously clean and hygienic, the facilities themselves are excellent. Large spacious changing rooms, lovely hot showers at 2 height levels to suit all people, cafe with yummy cakes and drinks for us parents while the kids swim and helpful staff on hand to answer any questions. The whole area is kept warm to ensure the kids in their swimming gear are comfortable and warm for their lessons.
My twins have been making steady progress and their unique way of teaching the kids in short bursts of 1:1 really makes all the difference. The kids are pushed and encouraged to try their hardest. The staff are firm but fun and my kids love it!
Where they have really exceeded my expectations though, is with my eldest son who has additional support needs and at age 11 still cannot swim despite me trying various lessons. The owner Nicola has gone above and beyond to accommodate him, trying initially a group lesson and then 1:1 which involves his teacher starting half an hour early to fit him in before the lessons started. He has made a little progress but Neil and Nicola really are trying their hardest to get him confident to put his face in the water and actually teach him rather then just play around in the water like other establishments have done previously. We are taking it week to week and there has been no pressure to book a block for him so I know they aren’t just taking my money!
My husband and I can’t recommend Nicola and all the team at making waves enough. They really take pride in their facilities and their teaching methods and get the best out the kids.
5 stars all round!
My son has attended here since he was a timid 3 year old. He is now an extremely strong and efficient swimmer, thanks to Nicola and Tom.
They have always been extremely supportive and friendly and the progression much quicker than the council lessons. I have no hesitation to recommend them.
First class place for swimming lessons. The owners, managers and all the staff are brilliant with the children, allowing them to gain confidence and progress in learning to swim.
Tom and Nicola run a fantastic establishment here, one that I'm delighted my two kids go to and can't recommend highly enough. My kids, a son (4) and daughter (5) are a year apart and Making Waves has always helped ensure that the two are always well looked after. They've attended since my son was a toddler with both coming on leaps and bounds.
Tom and Nicola constantly monitor your child and importantly take time to explain their progress, the next steps all the while focusing on valuable life lessons but keeping it fun.
Don't take my word for it, these past 6 or so months of all the clubs my kids attend, swimming is the one they're both desperate to get back to. That says everything in my book.
Photos that I cherish, attached.
Fantastic. Tom (the owner) runs an outstanding hands-on service that clearly blends legitimate progression and fun. Our daughter is three and a half and her first lesson went great, followed by two lessons where she was highly resistant. By lesson 4, she finally started to enjoy herself and now she literally can't wait to get back to this place every week. Every child is going to learn at their own pace but the strides over just 6 lessons alone have been amazing to watch. The facilities are also of the highest standard I've ever seen. Honestly, I can't recommend these guys enough. If you're thinking about teaching your children to swim, regardless of age, this is as good it gets.
I have three children who have been going to classes here since January 2018. They all started as complete beginners, and though it was a big step putting them into the water without a parent, after one or two initial classes of tears (and instructions from the staff on how to convey to the kids how chilled we are (even though inside we arent feeling it)) they didn't even look back.
We desperately missed it over covid, though the children were all quick to find their stride again when classes were able to resume.
The staff are lovely and also very professional- safety is clearly paramount and in their teaching they find a great balance between teaching brilliant technique and being friendly with the children. Special shout out to Neil who has my 4 year old in absolute hysterics every week, while still managing to push her out of her comfort zone.
The facilities are immaculate, warm (really warm!- make sure you wear layers you can strip off!) and make for a lovely experience for both parents and the children taking part.
It's been a pleasure over the years sitting in the cafe and watching the kids develop into great wee swimmers- I can't wait to go on our first holiday since the pandemic this year and see their skills in the pool abroad.
Keep up the good work!
It’s been an wonderful experience for Freddie who’s 3 1/2. We have a pool at our hotel this summer so we wanted to get Freddie over his fear of the water. The first lesson was a baptism of fire with Freddie getting dunked straight in. We …
