Reviews of The Western Baths Club
M. R.
Fantastic Club with gym, studio, saunas and steam rooms, fabulous pool and many relaxation areas in Glasgow's West End - we love it! The facilities are classic in style in keeping with the age of the building - not flashy just warm and traditional. Amazing yoga teachers and Personal Training services and a great safe environment for kids. Recommended, for an all round Club style experience, rather than just a pool. Very welcoming environment - top place!

Been a member since 1979 and during my working years, regular visits to the baths to swim, use the gym, take yoga classes and relax in the hot and steam rooms, helped me relax and unwind. Now, semi-retired I value the quieter day time visits - still keeping fit but also value the chat with friends made over many years. Very relaxed atmosphere with great staff. Regular programme of upgrade has improved facilities without losing the Victorian charm. Of course as a private club subs are significant, but for me membership is now an essential and not just a 'nice to have'.

I've only used the gym, but did so every day for around three years. Unfortunately due, I believe, to the extremely long waiting list to become a member, the customers to The Western are very stuck up/pretentious. I've taken to building a home gym so I can steer as clear as possible from this place, only using it when I need to. The staff members are terrific, and it is indeed in a beautiful location, with lots of history. If you can block out people that aren't worth a shred of respect, this is your go to gym.

We've had Family Membership for several years. It's like a second home at times! Great swimming instructors for the kids, very effective fitness and wellbeing classes for the grown-ups, beautiful pool, great gym and fab changing & shower facilities, not to mention the saunas and steam rooms! Love it.

A hidden gem in the heart of the city. No better way to relax or hit the gym in style, with a variety of classes available aswell as 1 to 1 opportunities with fitness instructors. Very family friendly. This place has everything from a bar/restaurant to a hairdresser and masseuse and even a creche for those little pre-school members too .

Been a Family member now for over 15 years. Without a doubt, incredible value for money in terms of facilities and service. Variety of classes, at all skills levels, in a very encouraging and friendly environment. The pool in superb and the best part it the realistic perspective on 'safety' in a world that has become ridiculously 'risk adverse'. Children (and adults) are encouraged to learn about calculating risk - taking opportunities to challenge themselves - encouraged and coached and then manage new skills in the pool, on the trapeze, the rings and diving board. Place keeps me sane in winter! So funny the hygiene review - its what you bring in with you that counts lol

Very welcoming reception. The russian/Turkish suite is good for chilling out. I use the gym and appreciate the lack of queues and canned music and absence of showing off. I enjoy the yoga and pilates classes and think the instructors for these are very good. The club is particularly good for retired people not constrained by working hours.

Joined last year and have been very impressed with the range of facilities on offer in the heart of the west end. Staff are very helpful and have met many people through the various clubs and activities. Interesting eclectic mix of traditional and modern sports facilities. Deepend bar and bistro in need of modernisation but this is being addressed soon through a £100k plus refurbishment programme. All in all great value for money!

Excellent night spent with old PE friends.

The few negative comments are sadly typical of the trolls that infest ‘Reviews’ on virtually any site. Given that there’s a substantial waiting list, I’d say it was safe to be guided by the majority and ignore the negative & unconstructive.
The Baths provides an oasis of calm between work & home and as a place to escape our dismal winter weather, it’s an absolute godsend.
Fees:
Given the extensive range of facilities offered by The Western and it’s associations with other clubs, its fees are extraordinarily reasonable. I toted up the annual ‘average sports club fees’ (2013 figures) for the range of facilities offered and came up with a figure of at least £750 which comfortably exceeds that of the club. It’s also in good health financially and thus able to continuously upgrade its amenities.

Kind of an old building which has been a baths and sports centre for many years, I attend ballet class their on a Sunday. It is membership only but I think that you could pay as you go. Very nice and clean inside, welcoming staff.

A social club in the West end of Glasgow could sound like quite an old fashion concept !!! May be a little Victorian? But The Western Baths Club is just simply a magical place a few steps away from the famous Botanics Gardens right in the heart of Glasgow's very own West End. You can see the University of Glasgow Tower from there. Definitively where the action is... Member for over ten years I feel very protective of the "Baths" as we call it (although its a lot of other things as well as just a pool...)
This is a heaven of peace, where you can decide to rest, exercise, swim, meet friends, bring your children, work (in the library/office/wifi facility) have a coffee, a sauna, a steam, go to a Zumba class, learn Yoga... celebrate the New Year etc etc). Its a long term business for most of the members, and many of them come as a family, we joined when my daughter was attending the local primary school... The "Baths" is where the local children come after school to swim or hang about with friends. Its friendly and safe, clean and well accomodated... Later the youngsters learn the ropes of the rings above the pool to impress their almost girlfriends... Later they might join the gym or just pass for a few years but suddenly they are adults and you find them in the sauna or the fitness suit. For me I like a mix of relaxation in the sauna or energetic Zumba class. I like the mix of activities, I think the facilities are very enjoyable and I can be one of the ladies on ladies days turning up with a packed sandwich and a take away coffee to sit in the comfy chairs before heading for some sporty something before my sauna and ploof in the icy cold plunge pool... they say its good to make the blood circulate.
We all know one another and its a bit like a big family, But we are the friendly kind and we welcome new members all the time (well from time to time). They, in turn will discover what float their boat in the club, wether they come in because of the babies swimming lessons, the ladies zumba classes or the golf outings... there is so much for everyone.
Oh !!! Did I forget to mention the building? Listed and so Victorian looking, one of those old buildings you see in films thinking I so wish I had a club like this? Well you could just...
Approach us, we wont bite... May be you could visit at the next open days, we occasionally open to non members for a short while.

A Glasgow institution and deservedly so. Great pool which is never too busy, excellent sauna and Turkish/Russian bath facilities. Friendly and helpful staff throughout.

Newly a member and this is one of the best experiences in Glasgow: gorgeous marble showers, a bath, footbaths, relaxation room, Russian and Turkish rooms, Tepidarium and Roman Plunge pool plus proper Scandinavian sauna and the brilliant historic pool with trapeze. Very good for the stress - also, you can catch up with the news in the Solarium. Once you learn the timetables and the rules (place your shoes on the rack, hang your coat, no mobiles past a certain point, wash before you go into the pool or the wet rooms, etc), it's an exquisite place to socialise or have a slice of solitude.

With its rustic charm the WB's will not suit the hardcore gym bunny. It is a private members club offering a social scene as well as well-being facilities.

The "Sports Club" without the hard sell , a modern club within a traditional setting , relaxation or exertion its all there and a bar with great ambiance used regularly all at a competitive price .
M. W.
A great members club that also welcomes non members.
WBC is deservedly a west end institution. It offers great facilities, is very friendly and has great staff.

Without a doubt the best club in Glasgow. I got lucky enough to get a membership here and i will never be cancelling it!! I would have to be insane to!
J. M.
Went there for a christening party, the bar area was great and recently renovated. Had a quick peek at the pool and would live to try the trapeze.
