Reviews of Clissold Leisure Centre
N. H.
One of the best pools in London. Gets busy after work when Hackney swim school is also on, so get to know the schedules. Also has a great sauna/steam with plenty of separate gender sessions.
R. N.
Took my 8month son for the first time. Everyone was lovely when swimming you can use both swimming main pools as well as the toddler pool. Straight forward and and have swimming nappies at the front desk incase you forget!
S. J.
OK gym for the price! Nice pool and health suite. Changing rooms alot to be desired! But overall good.
S. r.
Great leisure centre in Hackney just around the corner from clissord park. They have a gym there plus a cafe they also do lots of lesson here, children and adult under 18 and over 60 get free swimming classes here plus there are personal trainers there on hand to help you get fit or get muscle. Also there's a sauna/steam room there too they have different times for woman only/men only and mixed to use the sauna, highly recommended!!
M. B.
Conveniently close, swimming instructors are very variable. Limited choice of classes for kids. Could do with a bit of a revamp.
c.
A great place to get fit , swim , big badminton court , squash courts and even outside exercise machines, plus the many classes available with great staff who are very interactive , they also even have a small cafe that sells great food , if you ever get hungry after your work out , highly recommend ..

Clissold Leisure Centre is a stunning building inside and out and privilege to visit just for the architecture. The Hoxton Beach cafe sells great coffee, salads and falafel. Apart from that this place suffers from only ever being as good as it has to be to get by. Everything is hit and miss. Sometimes it's clean, sometimes it's not. Sometimes things get fixed, sometimes they remain broken for years. Sometimes the showers are warm, sometimes they're skin-blisteringly hot. The staff vary wildly from bend-over-backwards friendly to can't-really-be-arsed dismissive. I'm very fond of this leisure centre because I've used it for many years, but I do sometimes wish they'd try just a little bit harder.
W. Z.
Why Are the showers way too HOT? It’s been years since I last was here. After a heavy swim I don’t expect the showers to be that hot, it would be nice to be able to adjust the temperature. Gyms okay. Basically anyone who is looking for an awesome gym to join, and is cheaper than this #hithhole then look no further than Muscle works gym. A profession gym with excellent member where everyone is so friendly.
S. P.
Hottest, stuffiest gym I've ever trained in. Little in the way of equipment for squats, bench and deadlift (including no padded floors). Swimming lockers cost 20p???
M. R.
Great facilities, but like most public baths and gyms... toilets gross, (what are people eating, why no toilet brush, how often are they cleaned) changing rooms a bit grubby. Expectations managed - Clissold does a decent job and can’t wait for classes to start again
S. S.
Good space for workout, but poor changing facilities showers and toilets.
D. 1.
Honestly I like the gym but the whole place is understaffed. Lockers don't work properly. And don't expect to reach anyone over the phone. Better gym reduce the price or better (no pun intended) HIRE STAFF!! There is not that many gym in the area...as soon as a new gym center open I ll enquire.
P.
This is a good leisure but sometimes it depends on the staff. One of the staffs have a fat back🧐😮💨
G. W.
Fully equipped gym with everything you need. 25m pool with no shallow end which is awesome for sprint sets in the pool 💪
A. h. h.
Great facilities. Can only comment on the pool, badminton and squash courts. Have had a pleasant experience on every attendance. The staff are always good natured and will go the extra mile. Good local leisure centre.
K.
The gym is good pool is good sometimes dirty but the overall experience is good 4 stars from me.
N. F.
Nice sports centre with great facilities including swimming pool & good coaching
E.
I love this pool for its convenient location but it's not always the cleanest place. The showers are often covered in hair (and boiling hot!) and the toilets can be a bit smelly. If they upped their cleaning of the place it would be great.
E. V.
I love this place! Started last summer and simply enjoy each minute around. Lovely staff, super clean premises, gentle and smiling members all over, super modern equipment and a great time scheduling. Excellent! Highly recommended!
P. R.
Good price, if they made their Ap and website better it would be five star!
C. D.
So much potential but poorly managed. The pool is almost opaque and I’ve never seen anybody cleaning in the centre. The showers have mould around the fixtures, excessive limescale in the shower heads, and the changing rooms are a bit of a state. Ironmonger Row staff are constantly cleaning in comparison
S. R.
CLC is doing such a good job of opening during COVID.
It’s such a good gym it’s a shame how busy it gets but that is to be expected.
The Spin classes are especially amazing!
D.
i came swimming here as a disabled parent with my friend and my kids. The staff were very friendly and welcoming from the beginning, including showing me where the disabled changing room was - this was very spacious with electric door, toilet, shower and lockers. Electric door kept opening even when I tried to lock it but this was minor. The baby pool and toddler pool were both great fun - it was my baby's first time and she loved it! The staff were excellent at offering to support me back from the pool to my wheelchair, as well as accompanying me to the shower. As we live in Hackney, there are great discounts for us as a family with their membership, so we will definitely be coming back again soon!
A.
We go here regularly - it’s our local gym. It’s a decent size and has a good range of gym equipment. It’s pretty basic, but then you get what you pay for, you won’t get Molton Brown in the changing rooms here. That being said, I do think the women’s changing rooms are pretty dire - there is always a smell of drains in there and it never looks clean.
M. S.
✍The high-end pool is exercise-free and clean🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧super sweet ✌🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
A. O.
My son has his swimming classes here. I would have given it 5 stars if it was cleaner. But all sorts of sports are accommodated here. The staff are helpful. The gym should be similar priced to other competing gyms.
R. W.
Facilities are excellent. Great gym and swimming pool. Looking a bit run down though and really hard to get a phone signal.
c. d.
Great installations, the staff is mainly friendly and try to help as much as they can. Prices are quite economical and they have lots of clubs for babies and kids. The equipment is pretty new and updated. Could be a bit better with cleaning on general areas but over all very good place to exercise. The cafe in the ground floor has amazing food
A. B.
Have only gone there casually to use the lap pool.
Decent pool that doesn’t get too busy in the lanes.
Plenty of lockers and changing rooms available.
The changing area and showers could be cleaner.
Bring 20p coins to use the lockers
L.
Good place, busy as always but what to do!
H. L.
Come here for the toddler pool. Could be a bit warmer but far better than others in Hackney. The changing area by the toddler pool isn’t very practical and really dark(?) so we use the family changing (which has a play pen) across the way in the training pool changing then walk across to the toddler pool.
They have floats and toys which is great and the cafe has such good food! Bring your own container and cup for money off.
Cafe needs more chairs when it’s busy though!
J. R.
Great fitness classes, good facilities and equipment as well as an awesome spin room
G. C.
My experience has improved a lot in the past few weeks. All the services work, new equipment, new app to book your classes and finally someone picks up the phone. Always loved the Centre but now even more.
E. P.
Finally I have found a centre that provides many yoga classes every single day of the week, more than once a day! This is really important as it fits different schedules and levels of proficiency (beginners, advanced, etc). Well done!
A bit pricey, but the only gym that offers a pool, sauna, and so many fitness classes. Plus it's a really beautiful gym!
N. H.
Good sized pool with a very wide 'slow' lane and decent stratification of faster lanes (also wide themselves), so you rarely feel hurried or slowed by other swimmers. Spacious and modern facility, though the shower cubicles are starting to show signs of damp and rotting and the water pressure is such that use of more than one shower along a row at once results in a miserable dribble for all. Nice atrium area with leather sofas for resting while waiting for kids/partners, with views over the ball courts. There is a cafe which stylistically and in fayre/pricing is in keeping with its Stoke Newington location. Very bicycle friendly with racks outside the entrance - these are afforded some 'natural surveillance' from a balcony of running machines in the gym that overlooks. Be aware, though, that as a popular spot bike thefts do occur here, so bring sturdy locks if you do cycle.
V. M.
Brilliant place filled with friendly faces.
Equipment are super up to date and the staff always ready to help.
I have nothing but praise in regards to BETTER and most definitely I urge everyone to bin their fancy money making gym memberships and join BETTER.
N. B.
Great facilities, helpful staff and pretty clean throughout. Memberships, online services and classes all very user-friendly and easy. If you live locally it's a great choice for fitness and working out. Make sure to explore all rooms and areas as there's plenty on offer.
Outdoor running machines are a really nice touch!
P. T.
Will definitely go back. Lovely staff sorted out an error I'd made in booking and went out of their way to help. Swimming pool is nice enough and the changing rooms were clean and had plenty of room on a Saturday afternoon. it's not cheap though. A few less soaring glass windows = a few fewer pence per swim?
A. F.
I've been a member of Clissold leisure centre for about a month now and can't rate it highly enough. Joining process was super fast and easy and it's also incredibly cheap compared to other gym chains. I've used the pool a few times and it's never been too busy for me. 20p for lockers which isn't refunded. Have also used the gym which is great and overlooks the pool. £1 for lockers is refundable. The changing rooms are always clean which is fab and hairdriers are free to use too. The staff have all been very polite and friendly to me. Have also been to a good few classes now and can't really fault them. They do get pretty full so it's best to book early if you can. Really enjoying trying the massive variety of classes available. I realise I'm sounding like a bit of an advert now but there's even a great little cafe in the centre, not too cheap but also not just chocolate and crisps. Anyway, I'm a big fan!
E. S.
Such a good community gym!
J. M.
This is a very good gym. It's large, well-equipped, quite modern, and reasonably clean (for a busy, GLL gym!). Personally, I find the staff to be fine. The trainer who did my program with me was very nice, and knowledgeable.
I've been using this gym for over two years, and I think it's good value. (Obviously, it's maybe not to the standard of a private gym eg Virgin et al - but they cost a lot more!). I've never used the pool so I can't comment on that.
J. A.
Decent Leisure Centre, I've only ever used the gym so can't really comment on the other amenities. Some of the cardio equipment could do with updating though. Staff all friendly, polite & pleasant (reception, cleaners etc.) Think the P/T's could be a bit more approachable. They give off that if you ain't paying, I ain't playing type attitude, which isn't very nice but that could just be me (I work in customer service management so have high expectations) Never had any need to contact Management. Cleanliness could be improved. Namely showers and especially the disabled loo/shower...a REGULAR going over with a pressure washer would do the trick. Pool looks great. On site cafeteria good. Always busy and food smells good on my way out! Give it a go. I've defo been to worse.
S. D.
I've been here only once so far for swimming, but definitely plan to come back. The swimming experience itself was quite good, with three different pools (toddlers / beginners / real swimming). They also do lessons. The main pool has about eight 25m lanes.
There are separate changing rooms for the training and main pool, and it's not easy changing between both areas, so be sure to take the right one. This also means you can mostly swim without being much disturbed by children, which was pleasant.
On the downside, you have fairly high entrance fees (4 pounds and a bit). Also the lockers cost 20p each, which is not refunded. So better take all towels and shampoo / shower gel with a bag into the pool area, so you don't have to pay twice.
A. B.
Super clean, huge gym with many facilities, and gym equipment and classes. They also have 3 pools, and a sauna and steam room which isn't covered in your membership sadly. Staff are really friendly and helpful too. Easy location to get to. Has too bus stops. Been going here for 4 years. Always come back.
D. U.
I use it for 8 months now mostly because it has a creche for little once (under 5 years old) but gym is decently equipped, stuff is very helpful. Only problem is when you call them no one picks up the phone most of the times. But because in general stuff is always nice I still give it 5*. Oh and a cafe downstairs is great!!!
D. P.
Have used this gym a fair bit in the past on my stand point varies, on one hand it has great facilities in terms of the gym, pool and health suite although "some" of the staff are rude and can barely be bothered to get their butts off their chairs to greet or give you advise if asked. Also the floors in the pool changing rooms are lethal and need some kind of matting, which I've personally suggested a couple of times over the couple of years but to no avail.
J. S.
As an over 60 and Hackney resident I swim for free here 3 times a week.Never too busy as kids go into other pools and wide lanes for slow, medium and fast swimmers. Changing rooms clean and masses of hot water. Facilities just as good as any Virgin Active, David Lloyd club. Small cafe has fantastic salads and baked goods. Worth a visit just for lunch.
T. Z.
This does not deserve the 1 star reviews that everyone is giving it, as it seems like most of the complaints are for the front desk anyway and not the actual facility. The gym is definitely one of the bigger and better ones i've been to from the Better options and the main pool is for sure one of the nicest pools (to train in) around zone 1 and 2. The equipment is plentiful and the space is quite abundant for a zone 1/2 gym. Clissold has pretty much everything you could need from pools, sauna, outdoor treadmill area to squash courts, fitness classes (with decent sized rooms), sports hall and outdoor football field. For the price, you really can't ask for more if you're looking for a multi-faceted workout and not just a fully stacked gym.
L. J.
Great venue, but pool water is often not very clear, changing rooms a little dirty. Amazing cafe with healthy food. Shame that Better has such a complex pricing structure between all its Boroughs. Why not make membership universal like how centres offered their services in the past?
E. W.
Fantastic service! I've been going to this gym for about 12months now and have always really enjoyed the classes, instructors, crèche facility and café (with amazing sourdough pizza and salads!) but in recent months I have been particularly impressed by the staff on Reception who are friendly and helpful and the manager (female, sorry I don't know her name) who is exceptional! The staff really make Clissold Leisure centre such a special part of this vibrant community. Well done!
V. H.
Ringing up is a big issue they still haven't resolved this. They have enough staff to answer the phones but still no 1 picks up.
The main pools is very nice but it really does stress me out when the water is freezing all year round they keep pumping cold water just why? On the other hand u may have felt the training pool Is much warmer.
round sauna and steam is much cleaner and safer than a few years ago
N. P.
My son who is 15 attempted to go to the gym on Sunday under the junior membership . Unfortunately he was turned away as it was already full! He also encouraged his friends to join the day before. Surely there needs to be another staff member on so 7 more kids that have joined are able to exercise? It just seems if kids want to exercise and there is a restricted amount that can go at any one time (probably because oflack of staff numbers) unfair . Why sell us the membership? And why not encourage kids to exercise? Provide more times on weekend rather than the restricted 1 to 2 or weekdays that are restricted. DO you want our children to be healthy? Seems not.
A. C.
Good workout center, offers a lot of different classes. The only thing that could make it better is if they offered radio or TV synchronization with the workout machines. At this time he can only watch TV with no sound.
They also offer a variety of children's activities so this is always a plus for those with family
J. C.
Great staff and nice gym
W. C. H.
cold pool perfect for swimming and not getting too hot.
N. O.
Staff are always friendly and helpful. The centre, including pool and changing rooms, is kept clean. The cafe makes its own delicious healthy food, and is pretty good value. There's a friendly family atmosphere.
C. F.
Really big gym with lots of facilities. All the staff have been pleasant enough to me. My only complaint would be there seems to be a problem with class bookings as when I turned up for a class I had booked it had been cancelled but the instructor still put on an impromptu class for the few of us who had turned up.
N. G.
Pool is good I haven't used the rest of the space they could possibly do with some more staff at the desk. There is often a long line during peak periods. A lot of families go. Really good for people with small children.
M. D.
Great facilities,friendly helpful staff
S. P. C.
The softplay for children is good but very crowded. The family swimming pool is beautiful but way too cold. Overall it's a wonderful facility and building but very inefficiently by staff. Their website in particular is extremely difficult to navigate and use. They are extremely busy and one must always book in advance for any class, which can be very frustrating.
P. M.
Large, well equiped gym. Not crowded outside of peak hours. Friendly staff. Relatively good value compared to private gyms. Changing rooms a bit cramped. Otherwise all good!
M. M.
I use the place a lot, mainly the gym. It's "ok" and I get a good deal as over 60 so can't complain about price! The facilities are fine for what I want which is basic gym equipment and information from staff when I need it. I think the swimming pool is well run though I don't use it. Classes are full when I see them. The building functions ok, though as had been mentioned staff vary from casual to helpful. Mention of the guy who works Sundays and provides his own music playlist, it's a great improvement!
There is almost always something not working, I have no idea what the SLA is for fixing water fountains, not running out of paper wipe supplies , etc, but Better are not meeting it :)
One day several bikes were stolen (cut chains) from the "safe" area right in front of reception, and the manager was minimally interested, sent us off to walk to the police station ourselves. We still don't know what happened to the cctv months later! Now I chain my bike right beside the door.
M. K.
i am a regular swimmer here, this is my local so i have no choice, but the pool is always filthy, especially the borders, then the drainer which adjoins to the pool always stinks of poo i always feel nauseas when i go close to it so i always try to avoid it and only swim in the middle. The changing rooms are always full of rubbish, empty bottles and hairs! You can also see the grease on the walls ewe. The hairdryer only works every two weeks. The staff as the other reviews have said are really unhelpful, i have complained many times and they have said they will improve and change but they never do.
A. C.
Good workout center, offers a lot of different classes. The only thing that could make it better is if they offered radio or TV synchronization with the workout machines. At this time he can only watch TV with no sound. …
J. S.
Good times available to book for evening swim
S. K.
Pool and other amenities are great but the swimming pool change room is so much grungier now than before covid 😣.
P. W.
Very nice, clean leisure centre. Customer service improves from my last visit before covid. Online booking is working and is very convenient.
a. d.
been going there for about 4 years, as a student then after I graduated. really good service, helpful staff. Clean and big gym, which isnt that common for the price of the membership. Been to Kings Hall, Copper Box, this one is by far the best.
F. B.
Great swimming pool with sauna and steam room that you can use for the cost of using the pool. Sauna and steam room area is always quite busy! Staff are helpful and there is communal and private changing areas. Don't forget change for the lockers!
L. F.
Describe my experience? Always a little bit bizarre. Feel like there could be a gym version of "The Office" filmed here. The staff don't really get how to be professional and some take themselves very seriously. Always a bit of hard work at this gym, and not for the right reasons unfortunately.
A. K.
Now that the membership prices has changed it’s easier to do what you want to do without being forced to pay a massive price
Staff are nice too
L. G.
In Loooove with this Centre 😍 It's a really amazing place for both relaxing and training! Outdoor treadmills, big swimming pool, health suite and good quality classes.. all of it makes me go there almost everyday and enjoy it a looooot! Thanks a lot!
The only difficulty I find booking classes. They get full very fast.. and the most probably for next week you have no chance to go for any classes
a. “. s. t. r. m.
Never have the staff at the reception desk ever greeted me with some kind of welcome. It's something that you begin to expect from this place.
The cleanliness of the changing rooms is down to members of the public not respecting the leisure centre, and poor management.
Yes the pools are on the cold side, until you get swimming. The toddlers pool is always full of toys to play with, and isn't to busy.
If your looking for swimming lessons for kids, forget it, their either to busy or it's to early in the mornings.
They never pick up the telephone. I have emailed them to organize swimming lessons for my daughter, they said that one of the instructors will contact me, still waiting.
J. C.
Getting in can take longer than it should but that might be because I don't have a card. Badminton courts are brilliant and the changing rooms and showers are everything you need. Can't complain.
S. S.
There is a gym and sauna/steam but you have to be a member of better, not pay as you go. The baby pool is good, and the teaching pool is busy. The gym is good and they have some running machines outside on a mezzanine level which helps with sweating
G. K.
I'm pretty sure that anybody working the reception desk at this facility is doing so as some form of forced community service, rather than paid employment. I'd say it's nigh on impossible to find a less interested, attentive or competent bunch of people.
The entry process is simple - you scan your own membership card, and then a disinterested member of staff looks up from the desk at you, and continues looking at you in silence. This continues until you realise there is a queue of around 10 people behind you waiting to submit to the same process, and tell the staff member what you're there for. At this point they will hand you a paper wristband.
But don't get too excited! You're not in yet, my friend. You must now walk 2 metres to the entrance turnstile, where you'll have to scan your membership card again because said staff member is too useless to press the button that will open it for you. I mean, it's a pretty complicated task - confirming someone as a member and pressing the button for "YES YOU MAY ENTER THE FACILITIES YOU'RE A MEMBER OF".
The overall centre is pretty good though, to be fair.
W. P.
'Probably the best Council-run sports centre in London'. Very modern, and relatively cheap, it is a far more pleasant experience to go here than to a gym. they have tennis courts, squash courts, basketball, badminton and countless classes.
P. M. L.
Only problem was lack of wireless connection!
P. J. D. (.
Excellent, clean building, staff friendly and organised. Great to be back in the pool. Looking forward to getting back into a routine.
K. L.
I've been attending the Gym for two and a half years and enjoy exercising there. The main criticism I would make is that the same loop of pop music is played incessantly, day after day, week after week, month after month and years, for practically all the time I have been attending. It's bad enough that it is music marketed for 8 to 16 year old's but surely it is within the financial resources of those running the leisure centre to change the music occasionally.
A. R.
Very nice pool and great changing rooms. Only issue I had was the cold showers. I’m not sure it’s always that way, but wasn’t too pleasant in any case.
W. A.
Good value for money , convenient , some great yoga teachers, lots of classes every day, wide range of activities. However the cleanliness of the studios and changing rooms leaves a lot to be desired.
R. M.
Really good range of facilities. Decent free weights although not a lot of space. Pool is great. Health centre has two saunas and a steam room.
j.
The customer service can be terrible if you need to book classes or get a membership, but not as bad as some other reviewers say. The changing rooms can also be really messy due to the attitudes of some of the customers.
K. G.
I used Clissold Leisure Centre for over a year and thought it was great. The whole building is large and impressive - it's got a large pool which is only for lane swimming, a large gym, sauna and a number of other court facilities.
One thing I only realised recently is that if you want to use a treadmill in the gym for longer than 20 minutes there is actually a whole room dedicated to running in the basement - check it out!
I would also recommend the cafe - plus they have free wifi ;)
The only downside to Clissold is that they NEVER answer the phone - don't even bother trying to call!
V. K.
Goods: Big centre with all kinds of activities, courts and swimming pool. Newish building with lots of air and light. Well located right by Clissold park, good for a walk or wind down after workout.
Bads: Cleanliness is poor especially in man's changing room upstairs. Usually there is rubbish on the floor and smells like damp carpet every time I go there. Telephone is always busy, impossible to get live info/update. The squash courts could do with hole covering and a lick on paint.
A. G.
Very nice leisure centre they have a creche and cafe as well
M. D.
Nice building well mantained when compared to other Better structures. The gym overlook the training pool. It's a well lit building, a pleasure to swim here. Not the most friendly staff.
S. D.
This place has a great pool with good hours, loads of machines and classes. It's very busy during evenings and weekends in January. The staff is also swamped on the weekends, so don't go and sign-up on a Saturday.
H. S.
Good facilities and classes available. Staff are generally nice and helpful. Affordable membership cost, haven’t taken advantage of the other better Hackney gyms yet.
W. Y.
Generally a good centre. The Hoxton Cafe food is decent, but the manageress has a serious attitude problem. More chips on her shoulder than a branch of McDonald's... The other staff are friendly/helpful enough.
F.
I enjoy this gym and it has good facilities. Wide open spaces and Adair amount of equipment. Only wish is that it this gym would open at 6am on the weekdays. Then it would raise the gym to 5 stars!
L. W.
One of the better public swimming pools I've visited. Website has accurate info, staff are friendly, clean facilities and adult lane swimming in the 25m pool every day. A really good local facility.
j. m.
the gym is perfect, no complaints and the cafe (hoxton beach) makes the best pizza ever.... the reseption staff are a different story. these people want no kind of conversation, all but 1 are complete dicks when asked any kind of question!
F. F.
Was here recently for their summer camp programme. Kids enjoyed. Reception needs major improvements some staff are helpful some just sit there. Don't bother try and call for information took me the beat part of 2 days to get through to anyone!!!!
M. F.
Excellent facilities, staff very professional and friendly, brilliant and love going there.
C. S.
Joined on Monday booked a class for Friday. Tried using membership card to check in and reception staff said it's not registered. So assumed it was sorted after handing me receipt. Did the class enjoyed. Now look onto my account and it says I never attended and have to pay a fee. Tried calling them and no answer several times. They never seem to answer the answer even when it's not busy.
N. T.
Best gym I ever went to
L. H.
Such a nice leisure centre, clean, great facilities, lots of space, the cafe looks delish though I've always managed to stay strong and not buy
D. A.
If you're a keen lap swimmer, this the best pool around. The main pool is a proper competition pool, which means 2m deep the whole length, resulting in only people going there who are there for lap swimming (i.e. no loitering at the ends getting in the way)
R. W.
great community based gym, has everything you need. the cleanliness good be better, but gym goers should also play their part and keep the bathrooms and changing rooms tidy.
M. B.
Very helpful in this pandemic. Exercise is the best way to keep body and soul ready to fight off any depression, weakness and strength to fight the viruses.
S. O.
Very nice and great for leisure activities. You can ho for swimming, gym, racket sports, yuga, etc. Parking is difficult in that area. Staff are helpful and centre is quite clean and fresh.
T. n.
Clissold is a relatively new leisure centre with all the facilities you would expect. Shame the lockers charge you instead of giving your.money back like other centre's ran by Better.
T. C.
One of the best indoor pools in London. I have problems with the chlorine and ventilation in some of the older ones but this one is bright and airy, a real pleasure to swim in.
S. K.
Great facility, great staff. Haven't done any classes yet, I do think the booking system is a bit complicated. Maybe the authorities behind leisure centres can look into that.
M. K.
Facilities are good only the customer service far far behind . Staff need to have tranning regarding service and body language.
They are for Us not we for them .
I use this center for daily basis sports activities and my family to .
I hope the changes will be soon 👊
a. v. d. e.
This centre has fantastic facilities including 2 pools and it's pretty affordable. If you want to attend one of the classes you'll need to book quite a bit in advance as they're very popular.
M. P.
Pros: Clean pool, wide lanes, plenty of private cubicles in the changing rooms if that's your thing, coffee machine outside, women's onyl provision
Cons: The no-shoe in the changing rooms policy isn't done quite well enough, it's quite large so feels clinical, lockers keep your money
A. B.
Pool is always about 3°C lower than is comfortable, presumably so you don't stay long enough to get anything like value for money.
J. A. W.
Swimming pools very cold, which wasn't pleasant for our children. Changing rooms are satisfactory for a leisure centre.
L. E.
Membership includes all the classes and gym which i love including tai chi, yoga and circuits, i think its great. Only thing is staff should be a bit more friendlier everyone there just looks miserable at the desk
D. A.
Clissold Pool only: Staff pleasant and polite but bit weak on maintaining safe practice in the lanes, eg, once even ignoring a continually repeating jump "bomber"; allowing learners with paddle boards in medium-speed lanes and not enforcing the keep-to-edge of lane requirement. Showers and changing rooms are cleaned meticulously in face of unending tide of litter from users.
Architecture/engineering of the pool is not great (project went way over budget and schedule to become Hackney's equivalent of the Scottish Parliament fiasco).
Among the oddities: 2m depth throughout (unlike in most pools throughout the world) and slippery tiles in changing-room corridors. The opportunity to make swimmers pass through a hygienic foot pool if not showers has been missed. Male toilets do not work well and, mysteriously, toilet cabinets are often strewn with paper or used to block the lavatory bowl.
Male swimmers at Clissold seem less likely to pre-shower than they do at Lon Fields Lido so a lot of male perfume, sorry, after-shave and deodorant, enters the water. The pool's water also seems to sting the eyes a little. I should add that the last two are mere observations.
The overall feeling of the pool is clinical, soulless. I'd give it * * *, although perhaps Londoners are spoilt: French municipal pools might get only un etoile from me.
Obviously, my 3/5 is just an opinion; you may find Clissold the warmest, friendliest pool in NE Lon. For me that would be the lido, and not just on a summer's day.
A. F.
Nice play area for children but can be overcrowded sometimes with some rowdy lads around.
Usually great place for family fun days especially with it’s small zoo and paddling pool.
L. C.
Good experience. Had a lovely swim with my granddaughter and enough room preserved for social distancing.
x.
Very good I've been a member for 2-3 years and the staff are very welcoming and friendly and also very helpful leisure centre is always clean and tidy. The personal trainers are very kind
R. A.
A fantastic gym/sports centre with a swimming pool, squash courts, well kitted out gym and great classes with bike locks out the front. Unfortunately it's let down by some of the staff being rude and pretty useless.
L.
They really did a great job with social distancing and keeping the gym clean. I hope they keep the cleaning sprays in the future!
S. T.
Staff members are always friendly and helpful. I love the sauna, family pool, gym and fitness classes.
D. L.
Very popular...clean and staff are mostly friendly and happy to help. If you're not a member expect to remortgage your home paying for single classes!
C. M.
Like going to the training pool with my daughter. Not crowded, locker room is ok, although I find mingy to have to pay 20p for the lockers.
D. K.
Excellent facilities, kept clean; helpful staff; the main pool is rarely too crowded, and swimmers who disregard those around them mercifully rare.
H. A.
This is my local GYM everyone is chill on their on thing. All I can say it's, they have enough equipment for everyone, specially the punching/kicking bag at the lower ground. For me that's the best.
L. A.
Super busy with loads of activities. The swimming area is very popular and there's also a cafe which is cash only. Reception area was a bit busy.
C. M.
Excellent Centre & facilities though not always in pristine conditions.
Most staff so laid back which in annoying when being served.
Centre has a very good café, suitable for families with children 😀
r. s.
20p for lockers! Reception seem understaffed. Toddler pool is lovely, though it could be warmer.
a. d.
The staff at CLC have worked hard to facilitate social distanced activities during lockdown. Well done to all involved.
G. F.
Lovely pool for babies and overall great experience :)
I. M.
Great gym, I love the pools and the classes are great. Nice atmosphere. Music needs to be changed and varied.
A. P.
One of the best pools in London. There are always lanes available. The pool is clean and the temperature is perfect.
J.
Lovely centre but worst front desk staff. Cafe is alright. Lessons for Kids swimming are excellent and affordable.
T. i.
The staff are so rude, so rude!! They never answer the phone, ignore you while you're waiting and talk to you as though they're doing you a favour! The gym's nice though...
M. G.
Pool is pretty nice, changing rooms are fine - no complaints there - staff are friendly and helpful; pretty decent
J. J.
Friendly staff. Great facilities. Kids love their swimming lessons.
H. B.
Excellent. Apart from the abs machine in the main gym area which has not been repaired for some time
J. K.
I use the leisure centre for the gym and it has a lot of equipment, which for the most part is usually not occupied. The staff are helpful as well.
J. S.
It's a bit crowded on the weekends. They have a lot of facilities. If they could get there act together with better organisation, then it would be a great place.
R. B.
I attend this leisure centre for their soft play sessions for kids and it's a great. The kids love it and we go weekly
D. C.

k. L.
Really friendly staff. Fantastic pool. The cafe is great too - really healthy food
I love this place to bits!
S. I.
Modern leisure centre, but needs a bit more TLC, squash court has chipped walls, lighting in the main hall is atrocious and difficult to play badminton, general maintenance isn't great.
L. M.

A. B.
