Reviews of Finsbury Leisure Centre
O. L.
Certainly in a great location. Walking distance from Old Street station. A bit sad about the building getting old. Water drips from the roof to badminton courts on a rainy day. Floors are all patchy with water damage. Coffee and bottled drinks machine takes notes and coins. No contactless. There's a water fountain on the 1st floor. There is pretty cold breeze in the sport hall which affects the flight of the shuttle. But apparently, it cannot be stopped.
E. L.
The location is good - within walking distance from Old Street and Barbican stations. Large changing rooms with 50p operated lockers (you can get the coin back) and there are hot showers. Hot water did not work a couple of times this year though. Very popular with football players as demonstrated by the amount of football paving bits left on the floor of the changing room - but it's not too big a deal. Also popular with badminton, squash and fitness classes - there's even a fencing club. Other facilities include toilets, water fountains, vending machines. All the standard things you expect, so in summary a decent place to play sports at.
S. 0.
The badminton indoor is very cold during winters, apart from that, everything is good.
A. B.
Good squash facilities and outdoor football pitches. Easy to book courts, too
K. M.
Been coming here for years on & off..Zumba class on Wednesday evening is first class with Charlotte..Afrobeats, amazing! 😀💃
S. R.
Decent badminton courts, however they are too close to each other. Overhead lights are a bit weird for badminton
L. S.
Good pitches, not the best - proper difficult to book the pitch times each week as is in demand
C. N.
I go here most Saturdays for my Yoga class with the best teacher in the world. Currently we have leak in the room but it doesn't stop us.
M. J.
Went for playing badminton. Pretty ok indoor courts. Needs some maintenance though
V. K.
The gym facilities have most of the machines and equipment you would expect.
The changing rooms are a little small. If you just go in and out it's fine. It's a student gym, so dont expect luxury.
The sports hall is great. Staff are friendly.
Prices are great for the quality you get!
D. N.
5 a side pitches are good quality and the lockers take 50p coins (fyi). Pitch quality is good and staff are helpful. Main downside is after a tough game, the changing room becomes like a sauna and during the summer this can be an issue if you visit lunchtime.
N. H.
Football pitches have recently been resurfaced. This has greatly improved the experience that I've had ar this Leisure Centre. The changing rooms are perfectly acceptable. I've not experienced any of the other Court sports here. However for a leisure centre very much in Central London definitely worth a visit.
V. D.
Usually play Badminton there - A great place to play various sports
D. G.
The Centre is currently (Xmas2020 through 2021) open as a Covid-19 test Centre. Its managed perfectly, many individual booths (possibly 25 or more) and lots of friendly staff obeying all Covid Safe procedures waiting to chaperone each person through the testing procedure.
The Centre offers the TCR test and it takes about 5 mins. What really amazed me was my negative result appearing on my phone within 10 hrs.
I will repeat these visits periodically, to keep a check on myself.
More people should do the same.
And you should up-date your NHS Covid 'Track n Trace' phone app.
A. S.
Quite a decent place for football.
P. L.
In the next six months, you'll find it hard to find many publicly available squash courts, so this place deserves stars just for being open.
The courts themselves (four, three of them glass - backed) are in reasonable enough condition, but are very busy during peak hours, so go online and book ahead if possible.
E. K.
Played table tennis there sometimes. On one occasion staff double booked the table and wanted to kick us out. Had to dig up phone records to prove we were booked. Changing rooms not very clean and showers start off with cold water. But it's ok if all you need is to play some sport.

My rating above is in relation to the outdoor AstroTurf pitches as this is the only facility I've used extensively. Definitely not the worst I have played on, but might be in need of an upgrade.
Extra star for members of staff at the centre who in my experience have been very helpful and flexible.
O. O.
Considering the post code this would be a fantastic facility. Decent parking availability. Space for the gear and backpacks. Good size pitch up to 7 vs 7. 8 vs 8 is already too much, otherwise one could enjoy a good game.
Y. G.
Good squash courts 👍
A. K.
I use it for fitness classes but know they have other facilities eg football pitches. Staff at reception are friendly. Reasonable range of classes available from 0730 to 20 00h including yoga zumba pilates, fitness rebound and ballet fit. Good value memberships available that also allow use of other Better facilities. Also do Pay as you go.
M. M.
I play 6-a-side here twice a week and the pitches are in pretty good condition, the lighting needs updating but apart from that they are good. They also have balls and bibs you can rent if you need on the day.
A. S.
Really good football pitches. In process of refurbishing (2 done, 2 to go)
D. M.
Lot of sports, badminton is great
N. B.
The swimming pool is great and it is my local so can’t complain on value for money. Classes were always fab and loved all the instructors, but the changing rooms can be a bit grim and smelly! :\
N. H.
Don't leave anything lying about otherwise it'll get stolen. Not necessarily a refection on other people participating in sporting activities but there's always yoot loitering in the area as well as in the facilities itself. The staff have demonstrated a laissez-faire attitude towards acts of theft but with utterly unrestricted access to the venue it's perhaps difficult to prevent.
Prices for activities are great although membership is required for some at £50+ per year.
H. J.
It's become larger in recent years. There are multiple football pitches, 4 squash courts, badminton courts (I'm sure if it), a gym and even a table tennis area. Huge open space floor yoga or whatever they do in there. Just off old street (one bus ride from old street station, near the church)
T. T.
4 good sized 5/6 a side football pitches with relatively new 3g surfaces. Helpful staff. Spacious and clean changing rooms with showers.
A. M.
I like it most for the squash courts there are 3 glass backs and 1 traditional court. They also have a table tennis table squeezed in the squash corridor!
Squash and Table Tennis are accessed through the basement as you enter walk down the stairs on your left and through several corridors before you emerge onto the squash courts!
The badminton here the floor is slippery!
D. C.
Good value for football pitch rental. Astro turf is of various quality depending on which pitch you get, but overall a good setup.
K. S.
This is perhaps one of the cheapest fitness centres in the Shoreditch and Islington areas. They also offer student discounts.
It s a good place to practice your sports individually or as part of a group.
M. K.
Facilities are good. Badminton courts are as you would expect. Changing rooms are clean. Staff can be rude.
J. C. L.
I played football there a couple times. The pitches are good overall, but the start times are not punctual.
Z. L.
Decent badminton courts, however they are too close to each other. Overhead lights are a bit weird for badminton
N.
It is an old building. The ladies showers could be revamped with better air circulation but overall the services they provide and the personal trainers are great
D. G.
Always friendly people behind the desk. Visited a few times over last fortnight (even once where I had got the wrong gym through habit), and always met with a smile!
D. P.
Great location with 5 aside footy pitches and squash courts. Showers and floors need to be kept a lot cleaner.
H. C. (.
Still one of the best places to play football around London and others sports also. Pitches are great. Injury free.
D. D.
Nice place for badminton
H. W.
I gave a 4star to the centre as I know a lot of badminton players there and the floor is good and warm inside
Y. B.
Just to go there to play table tennis so not much I can say about the place. But love to watch guys playing 5 a side football.
T. O.
Good 5 a side pitches but impossible to book and get a decent time due to popularity. Cost a fortune
s. t.
Great location. Good for racket sports and basketball. Got some football turf too.
A. A.
Well positioned leisure centre with good badminton courts!
J. A.
I mean it has okay football pitches but I've played on much better for cheaper as well.
A. K.
Great facilities. The astroturf surfaces need some maintenance, and they should have more water fountains please.
c. l.
Good badminton courts although they can get a little cold in winter
U. V.
Played football on one of the pitches here. Was very good. Clean changing rooms aswell.
D. L.
Badminton courts are decent. The floors were recently redone
J. M.
Good but slightly cramped courts and very dazzling lighting for playing badminton.
I. B.
Always an enjoyable for an evening's badminton, with convenient pubs for an after game drink.
S. S.
Alyssa busy impossible to get any bookings. But decent when you luck out
A. B.
Average leisure centre with nothing special.
Offers football and other sports.
Football pitch are not light well enough.
D. J.
I went to squash court, and it was good (except that beam that comes in between always)
S.
Great place to play badminton! Really polite members of staff.
M.
Best yoga teachers are here, if you want to let go of stress you could try all their other facilities as well including open air football
D. H.
Ironmonger Row baths are awesome and exactly what a municipal pool should be. Puts mine to shame.
S. A.
