Reviews of Golden Lane Sport & Fitness

Basic sports facility. Lacks some essential machines at the gym although it’s been renovated recently. Pool could use some very serious cleaning and opening times are quite limited. Staff is very friendly and the price is quite affordable specially for central london.

Joined last month and have been really impressed so far. Great price for the area for membership and the options available are great. Mainly use the swimming pool, which is always well set out with lanes. The gym is small, but there are an adequate amount of machines available and is not too busy when I have visited. Staff are friendly and the free towels for members are an added bonus!

I only used the swimming pool and didnt like it for several reasons. The edge of the pool is rough concrete, which is uncomfortable to hold. Two of the sides are all windows so strangers passing by can see you in your costume. The pool was a little dirty, I saw a dead fly and some plant bits. Pool is also a little small and made even smaller as we had to share it with people taking diving lessons. Showers are a bit manky however receptionist was nice.

Staff were friendly
Lights weren't working in the changing rooms had to use are mobile phone torches
Changing facilities were not great for family with young children
Numbers were controlled not too many people in the pool
One pool no separate pool for babies

The gym at Golden Lane is really good, nice size good equipment and the fitness instructors have good knowledge and always happy to help. The tennis courts are a added bonus as it is the only place in the square mile to play tennis. The classes and class instructors are amazing and will get you working no matter what the class is and how long it is. All the staff are friendly and approachable and are always happy to help with any question.

Some of the staff are quite cold.
Other are very welcoming.
It isn't loke Virgin gym or any other fancy sport centres.
But for what is worth it is actually more than Ok.
The swimming pool and classes are the strong points, the actual gym leave a bit to disappointed as the equipment are a bit too basic

I love this gym. Everyone is so friendly and ready to help/show you new moves (if you like). The equipment is good, although the gym is small, it never seems too busy. The classes are great and some last 30mins, which is great for me for a lunch hour. There are also 30 minutes high intensity classes during the day, which really do make you sweat and the push you. They also do yoga and pilates, which isn't my kind of thing, but I went once and it was really good, a lot harder than I thought it would be. They also have a pool, tennis courts and run outside sessions. A great all round gym and brilliant value for money! I saved a packet changing from another, larger, corporate gym down the road...

Very helpful and pleasant staff. Nice refurbishment job, a good pool and changing area, gym is well equipped and had a member of staff on hand if you need any help. The whole place is exceptionally clean and the view out to the estate is pleasant.

I've been to this centre several times. There are various activities, so you can find whatever you need. I started pilates classes and I am pleased with the attitude of the trainers. They are very helpful and thorough. Most importantly, the training rooms are comfortable and clean.

Have been going here for around 3 years. Good facilities and great price considering the location. Changing rooms and showers are a little shabby. Now doing a swim only membership which is around £35/month.

Perhaps not as flash as many fitness centres but absolute value for money especially if you work or live in the City. The Young at Heart scheme helps older people keep fit and healthy and there is a good programme of activities which take place here. The trainers are very encouraging too.

I play netball here with Powerplay who book the two netball courts out and unfortunately left my shirt behind. I called after 9pm and the lady who answered was polite, sympathetic and courteous. She went above and beyond to help me and I can't fault their service!

If you work/live in the Barbican and are in need of affordable fitness, hidden within the Golden Lane estate you’ll find a gym housed in a grade two listed building that once upon a time, amongst other things, used to be jail cells. Although gyms are not a usual source of TSL recommendation material, what makes the Golden Lane Sport & Fitness centre unique is its affordability thanks to Fusion Lifestyle, the charity who runs it. For Golden Lane, as well as their 50 other gyms across the capital, their aim is to provide excellent services to local communities. They’ve even got a whole Sports and Community Development Team who go to council estates around the city running free sports sessions for those who would otherwise struggle to afford it.
To find more unique and independent places why not visit the Twenty Something London website!

The changing rooms can be horrifically hot and now-n-then they run out of the basics like toilet roll and shower gel but all-in-all a tidy, nice place with nice people that is quiet enough but not so quiet they'll close down

Great place for workout during your office hours. Not too crowded. Small compared to other fusion gyms but adequate.

Very good value for money memberships, however facilities are fairly limited. Recommended for anyone without a high budget who lives or works locally
P. K.
I use the centre mainly for the badminton court. Staff are friendly and the diversity of facilities offer excellent value for the monthly fee.

Love this place. Always swim here. So relaxing! Always clean (unless you come immediately after swimming school).

just called them to enquire about their offers, when the high pitched screeching from a microphone or other device, started off, couldn't hear her and she apologised and I cut off.....actually, when i rang back, they said I could have a free 'trial swim' and let me attend today....I believe miracles do happen !

if you need a place to pray (muslims) there is dhur prayer here 1.30pm mon- thurs and Friday (jumuah) prayer - closed during school holidays...

Hidden gem of small but well kept facilities (based on gymnastics classes for kids and tennis courts).
J. S.
Small but good facilities, clean and friendly staff. Very good value membership.

Unexpected centre - hidden away in Golden Lane Estate -swimming pool, tennis courts, gym, studios. Would recommend if you are in the area.
