Reviews of Tiller Leisure Centre
F. R.
Nice face lift inside. Could use a bit more renovation outside and fixes of known issues not fully done. That said is functional, pool, equipment room and changing rooms improved quite a bit with the renovation and as a user I think it is a much better experience. My kid loved swimming there.
F. P.
Only use the pool there. Their newly refurbished pool is very nice and clean, it has a better feel than previously. The water temperature is still a bit too hot (and variable) for my liking. But I like it, it is quiet.
L. G.
Great leisure centre, gym has a very good range of equipment and free weights. Change rooms were recently refurbished, swimming pool 25m is great and always warm water.
For kids there is an amazing soft play and space for birthday parties.
In the basement a large studio and a nice gym. I would recommend!
A. B.
Redevloped. Nice pool. Great place at a low cost.
R. T.
I booked the soft play area for my daughters 5th birthday. All the kids enjoyed themselves. I had a lil snack section in the small room next to the soft play. Excellent value for money. Very helpful staff. Will defo recomend to anyone.
L. R.
So glad this is back open. Friendly staff, genuine, clean and all round great space.

For it's price, this is one of the best money for value gyms! The swimming pool is missing some tiles at places and it's very inconvenient that at one part it's very shallow and at the other very deep - it makes it so hard to swim! I'd also suggest having a "fast lane" for people who want to train so that they can do that too.
D. W.
Decent swimming pool. The water is a bit warmer than I like it (29°C when I was there). The changing rooms have recently been refurbished and are great, the pool hall could do with a bit of attention though. Friendly staff and a nice relaxed atmosphere. Annoying that the locker deposit (20p) is non-returnable.
N. V.
It's very functional. Don't expect anything fancy and you're good. The pool is ok (just time it so that you can avoid the school swimming lessons). The wet changing rooms are nice, the dry changing room is a little weird (just 2 cubicles to change in). The lockers are either in the hallway (padlock) or next to the pool (20p lockers). The gym is a bit sparse but I'm able to do my workouts. It could do with a refurbishment but it's cheap and cheerful.
B. F.
Great for the price. Gym has everything I need, including a squat rack and bench press. Generally very quiet, especially during off-peak times. They also have a big pool, with nice changing rooms (though lockers charge 20p). Would definitely recommend.
I.
A very good environment to do your workout. Alot quieter than other gyms
J. H.
Changing rooms are clean. Showers are nice. Lockers are non refundable 20p. Hair driers are free.
Only down side is the pool is warm to do lap swimming.
W. C.
I only go here to swim. It's conveniently located and cost just short of £5 for a session if you're not a member. It's generally fine and the changing rooms were refurbished recently. However the pool itself is quite dirty - it may be because I visit late in the day but I often see balls of hair and dust circulating about under the water.
J. R.
Great gym, friendly and helpful staff and wasn't crowded at all which means I didn't feel at all intimidated and felt it has everything I needed. Would definitely recommend if your new. If your a seasoned gym goer it might have less equipment than what you need.

My daughter attending swimming lessons at Tiller and we are happy with teaching. One negative thing I can say - very often you can't find empty changing cabin. Mums leaving children's belongings inside cabin for all time of the lesson instead of putting them to the locker.
S. C.
There's a small ball pit there but it does the job to entertain the kids for few hours
L. W.
Went there a few times for Friday free swimming for Tower Hamlets residents. Reception staff are friendly and welcoming. Changing room facilities are MUCH better since it's been refurbished.
L. Y.
Great local authority gym and swimming centre. Our teacher Paul is excellent! However the toilets need to be cleaned more frequently.
C. D.
This Smallish sports centre has been here for years...essentially council owned by tower Hamlets. One of several in the bourough..with one of the others being the famous York hall..think famous boxing!!! I have been a member of the tiller centre. What it lacks in facilities it makes up for in location if you are nearby..which I am. It is very close to Canary Wharf..which has loads of amazing gyms but tend to be more expensive... The tiller centre in now run by Better group, as are the other council gyms..the prices should be much cheaper for local residents, but they are not, which is sad as it used to be way cheaper than the better Canary wharf gyms. Facilities are limited.but it does have a pool plus some memberships allow use of other local gyms. For a good alternative with better facilities and some great offers try LA fitness instead.

Speaking from a gym stand point, it is pretty bad with two disjointed weight areas. The ex studio weight section is good but lacks more equipment and does not have uniform weights. Swimming pool is great.

A PUBLIC pool? you scream. Children? Urine? Chlorine? I don't go to a PUBLIC pool. I go to Virgin. But wait, before you pack your faux leather sports bag with your men's moisturizer du jour and trot off to your 2 lane 20 meter pool to practice controlled drowning, consider this. An old school 25 Meter training pool, light in swimmer numbers, interesting murals and the radio playing retro music (Fleetwood Mac and other bands from the Renaissance)and, best all, old style walls. To understand this, you need to go to a modern leisure center. There, the water level is higher than the edge of the pool, with sluices behind. The effect is that no matter what happens, the surface of the pool remains flat, calm, tranquil. But not here. Here the walls are higher than the water level. That means when more than two swimmers are a-swimming, there is chop. The benefits are: it reminds me my boyhood and learning to swim; it is more realistic for open water swimming; it keeps the people who want to waste their money at a leisure center away. They don't know it, but it does. Definitely. Perhaps. The changing rooms were refurbished recently and are ok, but you use a non-refundable 20p piece to secure the locker. The staff have only ever been friendly and welcoming (something that can't be said at the Olympic pool). While swimming also brings it's own entertainment and distractions, such as swimming over scuba divers or hearing and feeling the building shake as a person in the gym drops his or her weights (you'd think that if you were going to train with weights, you'd be strong enough to actually lift them, still gym bunnies are delicate flowers). As a result of all of this, the other people in the pool are swimmers, be they super fast talented or people learning for the first time. All is good, for they are swimming. Ability is not important, as long as they swim. There is no macho bullying either. This is a church and the pool the alter of sport. If you want to swim, this is the place to come.

It's alright. Pool is the star of the show. Gym is pretty standard. Bit of work being done on the changing facilities when I was there. Bit of a pain at the time but I suppose it will be better in the long run.
M. H.
A bit dated compared with newer pools. But friendly, relaxed, family changing rooms next to pool. Average price if not a local resident
A. Y.
Its got a decent gym but the swimming pool is always over chlorinated. The staff are helpful (most of the time)
Not the best swimming center but I've been to a lot worse
A. L.
Decent pool close to Canary Wharf, although they really need to sort out the drainage issue in the men's changing room. Stepping through pools of still water is not a pleasant experience.
B. B.
Pool needs a complete revamp. Gym is tiny. Vending machines very rarely work. Changing rooms are awful.
Definitly in need of a face lift.
J. b.
Tiller leisure centre has closed for good.
A. R.
Nice but less equipment
O. M. R. M. A. &. F.
Taekwondo Freestyle Martial Arts and Self defence. Every Sunday 1.30 to 3pm. Excellent facilities in the basement studio.
R. S.
Great place for workout and physical activities. It's 10mins walk from South Quay DLR station and Canary Wharf. Swimming pool is very nice and clean and flexible timings.
L. S.
Facilities are good, just some annoying people with buggy park them wherever they like infront of doors an by stairs?? But the pool is massive staff are good
Y. L.
I only go there because it’s the closest. Facilities are standard but a bit old. Don’t like the shower rooms as a bit unclean and not really friendly. There’s a swimming pool as well.
V. S.
Reasonably priced and has a decent sized swimming pool.
They dont have enough machines or weights. At peak times it gets busy
M. S.
Great local leisure centre.
New equipment and changing rooms.
Love the pool.
A. B.
For a local authority run place it's not half bad. Could be kept a lot cleaner but it's council run so it's kind of expected.
S. J.
Nice and inexpensive gym,I am a member and I love the trainer here!
Very friendly staff
C. M.
It is good value for money and it is never too crowded. I also like that the weighs are separate from the rest of the gym
r. b.
Great leisure centre all the basics and had great little soft play for kids party's
S. M.
Lovely venue for kiddies parties. Would be excellent if the softplay play area could be double in size
M. A. T.
Convenient for us because it's close but could use a good makeover especially since it's quite expensive when you want to use all the facilities !
M. N.
Simple, no frills leisure facility. Cheap and cheerful and the pool is generally quiet.
C. “.
Great gym and swimming facilities. Friendly enough people and no bad atmosphere.
A. P.
For all the "Wharfers" this is a great place to attend some interesting classes - aerobics, Step, circuits, dance and yoga at an affordable price and convenient location.
J. S.
A very good standard municipal single pool for lane swimming and lessons for young ones.
s. L.
Good range of equipment readily available, changing room and showers reasonably clean
S. D.
Looks old, but not very expansive.
Big plus is the swimming pool.
The equipments are a bit old, but works.
A. S.
This review is based on boxing sessions in the evenings & not the gym itself
