Reviews of Sportspark
M. M. (.
Almost perfect place I would say. You can do many activities here with or without trainers, including swimming, and climbing. There is a restaurant/cafe inside that serves decent food. Depending on which of the three types of memberships you subscribe, you have partial/full access to all activities at any day and time. Here, I would have loved a wellness center/spa if there was one.
S.
Outstanding sports facility!!! We have visited for gymnastics and for swimming galas and everything has been fantastic! Highly recommend the cafe as it has plenty of gf/df options. Definitely try the brownie while you are there 🤩
M. W.
Excellent facilities, gym a little dated, but still very functional. 50 meter pool, but usually split into deep and shallow 25m pools, unless you go early in the morning
S.
Brilliant place for many sporting activities. I play Badminton twice a week with the FILL Groups (Fitness in later life) and these sessions are exceptionally well organised by Bev. A very friendly bunch of people attend. Highly recommend but booking in advance essential.
P. J.
Spacious, helpful people, family friendly, easily accessible. There is a dining and bar area after the entrance on the ground floor.
P. B.
Best quality bacon and sausage I've had in years with the sportspark breakfast. Absolutely top quality food. £7.80 a bargain.
S. L.
Went to see jurassic live with our dino mad 4 yo, needless to say he was living his best life
K. 1.
To be honest, I haven't been in years but something happened recently with someone I know and the reception staff were amazing. So I would be inclined to go back and use the sportspark again as I would be interested to see if the other members of staff are fantastic too. I have swam and played badminton here and at the time I thought the prices were reasonable.
R. V.
Great place for the active lifestyle. Wonderful place to attend a graduation ceremony - they did s great job
M. S.
Great modern well run athletics facility perfect for holding competitions. There's even a bit of shade in the afternoon for spectators and athletes to avoid the full sun.
T. B.
Fantastic facility, home of many sports clubs including City of Norwich Athletic Club (CoNAC)
G. T.
If you love sports or just starting, this is the place to go...great facilities and the staff are brilliant and really helpful...
J. E.
Car parking arrangements are shambolic. Food and drink expensive. Facilities are reasonably good.
H. H.
So much to offer everyone: climbing wall, swimming pool, bafminton, basketball, football, gym, loads of classes plus loads more.
Friendly, helpful staff. Good, clean, spacious changing rooms. Everything under one roof for a really reasonable price and free parking too. I love the sports park.
D. m.
Our grandaughters graduation very lovely day out in beautiful surroundings
N. L.
Always good, showers in swimming pool clean, huge shallow pool as certain times as well as the deep one for lanes. So happy it is open again. Classes were good but yet to go back to them. Look out for their try for free days in the future, these are always busy.
R. G.
This place was amazing. It has a swimming pool, climbing wall, many badminton courts, table tennis tables, 4 squash courts with glass backs and seating, an athletic track, tennis courts and many many more pitches and facilities. It has 4 sports halls! The cafe is also fantastic with the range of hot and cold food available throughout the day, with lots of seating spread over a large area, with views of the running track. Free parking is available for those using the facilities.
S. L.
Very popular, and great place to work out or swim or climb.
D. W.
I have been here over many many years. As a student and more recently as a pay as you play customer for squash courts.
Online booking is easy in advance and just pay for your entry. 60p entry for non members on top of whatever you have paid for the activity you are going for.
My reduction of a star is probably for the car parking. The car park is always so busy and hard to find a space.. arrive early for any bookings you have to accommodate this. Also try to avoid parking further down near the football pitches as it seems only too often balls find their way over the fences and towards cars.
M.
Thank your for deciding to make the extension to the gym permanent and to reinvest. Please could you consider, as part of the reinvestment:
At least one more flat bench press
At least one more rack and platform
24hr opening
A trap bar
Lockers in/near the gym (particularly useful for 24hr opening as I understand you'd want to close off the rest of the facility)
Cooler showers (they're way too hot, it used to be that one side was cooler but this doesn't seem to be the case anymore)
Proper hair dryers - some of us work out in the morning and need to go to work afterwards, and preferably not looking like we've walked through a tornado. Hand dryers are not hair dryers.
Ability to add your Sportscard to Apple Wallet (and Android equivalent) so you can never forget it; or alternatively some kind of keycode entry system like PureGym.
Gym only membership - given the small size of the facility, the age of the equipment, and how incredibly busy it gets in peak times, this gym is very very very overpriced. It was stated that one of the reasons for keeping the extension is that gym users are basically keeping the facility afloat and you need the extra space to stop losing members to other gyms. Well, you can also stop losing members to other gyms by not charging twice as much.
Make it somebody's job to ensure the barriers to the changing rooms upstairs are open when the facility is officially open. Sportspark and the gym can both be open, yet there'll be a queue of people waiting for somebody to let them use the changing rooms! I need to go to work, I don't have ten minutes to wait. I'm not allowed to take my backpack in the gym (even though the fitness center staff turn a blind eye to the regulars they're friends with, but tell off everyone else). This is another reason why lockers in the gym would be an improvement. Leaving my valuables unattended on the seating near the squash court is not an acceptable compromise.
D. C.
Facilities and staff are first rate
S. P.
Spend a few hours a week here. I'm a silver member and use it to gain access to some of the fills groups. Some of the facilities are looking like they need updating, however the staff are friendly and the place is clean and well priced.
H. E.
It's about 25 metres long but it's pretty shallow on one of the pools. I haven't tried the deeper one but yeah it's basically just deep enough on one pool but only just
J. D.
A good quality sports centre, offering a large amount of facilities at a reasonable price. Lots of opportunities for clubs and a decent cafe to boot.
P. B.
I like the pool but the changing areas could be updated
S. G.
It's the UEA Sports Parc and it is a great facility.
P. G.
Best sportspark I've ever been to. That's it. It's a long story.
B. E.
For all sports activities and easy parking
J. S.
Decent gym considering it's got everything I need and the location is ideal as I live next to the hospital. Shame they don't do a student discount 😕
I. H.
Great for a gentle swim. Not too busy
J. C.
Pretty good facilities but the 7 a side pitches are an odd shape, very long and not very wide.
E. F.
Football pitches are pretty decent and reasonably priced, other facilities look good, but I've never used them, so can't really vouch for them. Everything is clean and appears well maintained.
R. E.
Overall very good facilities. We've been using it over the last 2 decades and have made use of the climbing centre, squash courts, swimming pool and all the different types of 5-a side pitches. They do take a bit of time to answer the phone sometimes
J. S.
Great place for a swim, exercise and general fitness. Has lots of clubs and other activities also has a cafe.
G. D.
Really huge venue with a brilliant array of facilities of amazing quality
A. P.
Was here for a cheerleading competition. Great venue and facilities. Had a fab weekend. Good parking facilities too!
R. L.
Pool is great, if a little cold.
S. P.
Always have a lovely swim, and good food in the cafeteria.
S. P.
So, in terms of facilities I would give four stars. Also as a student at UEA location is perfect. However, it is just too busy! They have no limit on the amount of people who have memberships, and I don’t mean it’s too busy to use a machine, I mean that it’s so busy that you literally can’t even find a place to stand and jump on the spot sometimes. Also the machines aren’t cleaned very well - they kind of just go over them with a floor mop... but the staff is always really lovely. The gym is just too small for the amount of people that have memberships. They have all the machines you’d want, apart from a couple. The pool is nice and changing rooms are relatively large. Also they have affiliations with a lot of schools so a lot of kids running about too which is a bit annoying.
K. C.
The facilities were great, but the pool is a bit chilly for a relaxed swim - as soon as you stop you get cold!
K. S.
Always friendly staff. The gym is a comfortable environment where people seem to feel relaxed and not judged. There are always staff around to help and advise. The pool is a good size, with a free swimming area and lanes. It is a little on the chilly side though!
The other downside is that membership is a lot more expensive than nearby gyms and sports centres, although it's convenient due to easy access and great facilities, along with being open from 6am to 10pm and many free classes as a gold member. Highly reccomended.
A. D.
A great place for sport! There's loads of different areas for sport here, you can play every kind of sport in so many different arenas. It's the place to be! There's also a cafe for when you need to re-fill your energy reserves after expending them all playing your favourite sport. The grounds of the university are beautiful as well, if you like a good walk around, highly recommended.
Ö. M. A.
Overall, it's a good place but I don't like drying my hair with hand dryer. In the lockers room (at least for the male's one), there are hand dryers instead of hair dryers. You need to go under the hand dryer to dry your hair. In my opinion, members should be able to use hair dryers. Replacing these hand dryers with a few actual hair dryers shouldn't be a big expense for a big company like Sportspark.
M. D.
Really happy with the staff there and I think it's good value. The only reason why I haven't given 5 stars is that the gym is actually pretty small and also shallow pool during Family Time is too deep for 2-5 years-old anyway. Spinning studio is great though.
I. H.
I attend the gym or classes (Spin) virtually every day, online booking is clunky but it does the job. I've never found the staff rude, and have never struggled to get on or use equipment. I've had a personal nutrition review which I found informative and carried out with profession. I find the class coaches very good, and the additional dedicated spin room very much suited to my needs. There's some odd corners that could do with rounding but overall a pleasant environment to work out in.
C. B.
Love this place so many things to do
R. J.
Went swimming today under the new covid rules and it was such a pleasurable and professional experience!!! Changing rooms were spotlessly clean and the booking of lanes worked really well.
P. B.
The Sportspark is a great facility. It is now fully Covid compliant, including displaying the NHS Covud QR code to check in. This is very much welcomed so local people can use the amazing facilities with confidence that they are safe. Please wear your face mask when you go.
A.
Hall 1-3 of the Sportspark are pretty good for badminton, but Hall 4 and 5 shouldn't be promoted as badminton courts but as ice rinks. No grip whatsoever making it impossible to play sports like badminton or basketball at a fast pace.
J. L.
Iffy service at times, Inconsistent. Great service most of the time but not always depending on who is on duty. Small gym but no essentials missing. Only bad thing is the parking, very strict and controlling about the parking and strictly not for students even if students have paid for a full membership.
I. M.
This is a great venue with a climbing wall, a large heated swimming pool, an athletics track with seating, a sports hall with lots of activities available from archery to korfball, multiple sports and football pitches and a café. I enjoyed my experience here and it was comfortable and entertaining. I would definitely recommend it as a venue to rent or use and hope to come again
A. S.
Excellent facility. Great cafe, swimming pool, cafe and sports facilities. Got chatting to the climbing wall teachers about enrolling my youngest who has climbed before, she got invited straight in to access what level she'd go in at.
C. G.
I swim here a lot and really enjoy it - lots of light, great flexible pool (50m and 25m depending on day and time), decent changing rooms (basic but clean and functional), you can time it so it's not packed and the parking is usually pretty good too. reasonable pricing too - a great facility for Norwich and Norfolk.
P. H.
None of the extras you use to get pre Covid at Riverside e.g. sauna etc. A 50m pool means a lot less turning round & it's half the normal lengths if you're into distance. I haven't been since Covid started so what the booking/entry process is like I'm not sure?
K. W.
Was having some hassle with my membership card early on a Saturday morning (6-30am). Staff at reception simply let me in for a free session for this one time instead of overcharging me as a non-member and asked me to check my direct debits in case there were issues there and that we would sort it next time. Quality service - thank you.
D. J. I.
My son recently wanted to join the free style gymnastics club. We went and were completely blown away with the facilities, friendly staff, eating areas and prices. I had no idea this was open to the public as well. If sports, training or swimming is your thing. You need to pay this place a visit. Free parking and great price points.
M. K.
Generally a good place with excellent facilities. Current pool price is £4.70 which entitles you to swim for as lomg as you like. The showers have been up dated to be mire individual cubical stle rather than the previous open plan. Parking can some times be an issue.
Pool is clean and warm. There are normally lanes open to more experienced or more commited swimmers but they also provide social swimming areas too. The pool is 2x 25m which at times is a full 50m pool.
Cafe is also good and you get a good view of the climbing wall too. Generally a really good place if they could just sort the parking it would be superb.
F. V.
If the sight of desperate people is your thing, then this is the place for you. If the sight of lycra straining across flesh against all hope, this is the place for you. If the sight of sweat creeping as it pools from the surface of overstretched corpus is your thing, then this is the place for you. If you glow at the whiff of B.O. then head for here. The pretty young ones like to pose and be watched. The rest don't realise how visible they are. It's all a bit embarrassing. The staff are all very helpful and friendly, and like to share the funny side of life. The building itself is attractive and well designed. The facilities are well used and it's clearly popular, but like all sports and keep fit facilities, it's embarrassing. I would avoid saying that using this to lever intimate favours never happens, just watching one becomes aware that there are a cohort who find it advantageous to make interesting conversations translate into personal connections, but I wouldn't rely on it as a guaranteed method of finding romantic or opportunistic liaisons with others. I would suggest that if you have a partner in life who suddenly decided to come here on a regular basis, take advantage of the opportunity to make this a joint venture. This is more a venue to watch what other people do, than join in the sweaty slog, otherwise, as I say, it all gets a bit embarrassing.
M. f. y.
Wow what an amazing complex, students are very lucky to be learning in facilities like this! Wow!!
K. F.
Been going here for 2 months now. I use the gym and swimming pool. The personal trainers have been very helpful with devising a programme to suit my specific needs. The benefits are amazing. Thanks guys, I go loafs now I'm becoming addicted boom.
C. N.
I went here to watch my grandson do his tumbling routines on a couple of occasions. Fantastic sports facilities for all ages plenty of parking spaces. Just one small gripe-the food in the cafe was awful I took sandwiches the second time I went
M.
I had a great swim as it was very quiet (on Monday afternoon). Staff were very friendly and helped me find my way around.
s. w.
Spring gym amazing for the kids and really good price. My daughter really enjoyed it. Definitely worth a visit.
a. a.
they kept my £1 deposit for my lock. will recover it today. the gym was nice and relaxed, with one member of staff not that helpful and the other who was brilliant. but I enjoyed my run.
R. T.
I used the cafe whilst my husband was taking part in a sportive that started from Earlham Park - there is a good variety of food and Costa hot drinks available.
Whilst here I walked round the facilities and was very impressed especially with Bernard Matthews Olympic sized swimming pool!
N. I. (. I.
For the equipment, services and classes the Sportspark offers it should get 5 stars but in the 9 years that I've used it my experience has always been marred by frustration. The main reasons for this are the large volume of people that use it and the associated difficulties that come with that. Using the swimming pool can be a bit like jumping into the middle of a triathlon swim start. The climbing wall is great but you'll need to book in advance to avoid disappointment. It also seems to swing between overly officious rules and totally lax chaos. I've seen many a suspect and even dangerous belay happening and have also had my climbing thwarted by regimented lines of helmeted students being barked at as they siege the wall. The Spring/Gymnastics center is great but suffers from many changes to the timetable that never make it as far as the website. The last two problems are the website which is difficult to navigate/ unhelpful and the switchboard which can be very difficult to get through to.
Finally, the café is mediocre at best and in no way matches the personalism of the rest of the centre.
It's still very worth a visit but book a couple of days in advance and be prepared for busyness and testosterone.
C. M.
I went to swim there twice, once as 50m and once at 25m. I much prefer it when it is on 50m, so do check the schedule if you want to swim 50m.
The changing facilities and the pool are fairly clean. The pool wasn't too crowded when I got there but I heard it could be. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I found the entrance fee a bit expensive though (4.30 GBP + 1 GBP if you wish to hire a padlock, and they also take 5 GBP deposit for the padlock - which you can get back when you leave). They do have concessions and other options, which is good for students or people going there regularly. I would definitely go back if I visit to UEA again.
M.
This is a great place to do some sport and even make new friends. It has a lot of different exercising machines so it is really complete and perfect. You will definitely not get bored there! I recommend it to everyone if you study or live near the UEA as the price is also fair and affordable.
B. S.
Friendly staff and good cafe on site. Top notch facilities and a range of sports on offer. Equipment can be hired. 60p entry fee if you don't have a card unless it's a large event, but fyi.
S. M.
Average sport leisure facility.....Zumba was absolutely dreadful , so badly executed a lady tumbled over in my class...Just awful.
Yoga was taught very well.
Cafe AWFUL......when I asked for extra water for my mint tea they charged me an additional 50pence for it!
BAD VALUE.
P. M.
Been here lots of times and I can't comment really as I'm there for karate. Looks good tbh
m. o. y. (.
Kids had an amazing time trying or all sorts out today , the gymnastics is amazing all the coaches are brilliant tried a bit of tennis as well as football if you're looking for your child to join somewhere for football then the sports park is definitely a great place to go
J. G.
I do Gymnastics at the UEA and have done for a few months. The coaches are very friendly and the service they are providing is very good for beginners but they don't push you or seem like they're bothered about development. People go in week in week out not learning anything.
Outside of the gym, the staff are very rude but other facilities are very specialist.
R. C.
Would be 5 star but squash courts currently being used as storage for weights so very hard to get one of the 2 remaining courts in evening.
L. V.
I use the Sportspark for fitness classes, and they are great. There is a good range from yoga to step and all the instructions are all good, each bringing something to the lessons.
Parking can be a nightmare and getting your ticket validated after your lesson is a typical English queue. Online booking is quick and simple if you are a member.
Also as the Sportspark is in the UEA grounds there are loads of Pokestops and Pokemon Go Gyms. A bonus!
W. L.
Reasonable pricing. No excuses getting rid of doing sports can be thought of if you join £150 off-peak gym membership for UEA students.
FYI, off-peak periods:
6:30-16:00 & 20:30-22:30 (Mon to Fri)
6:30-22:30 (weekends)
A. A.
Most of the apparatus in the gym has been replaced in the last couple of years and there is a good selection of free weights.
Various classes including Yoga, Body Pump, Pilates and others are available at different times throughout the day.
There is also a 25 metre swimming pool, which is extended to 50 metres at certain times of the day.
T. S.
Great venue lots of space and cleaning facilities. Recently relayed floor good for all sports especially basketball and volleyball.
C. C.
Springers Gym for the children is excellent. I'm disappointed, having moved away, that there is nowhere like it near me. Visited again on holiday this summer and I hadn't imagined how good it is, they really are excellent facilities.
M. M.
I would appreciate it if there were dryers inside the pool's changing rooms and not just in front of them (there's technically one next to the toilettes, but it only emits cold air, so it's as if it didn't exist)
J. H.
Excellent pool which is 50m on Sunday and Tuesday nights (check time table) gymnastics facilities are also fantastic and I can really recommend the 'spring' sessions for littt ones.
O. W.
Excellent facilities would be 5 stars but for the parking that can sometimes be difficult. The sportspark car park can fill up and having to find a space in the main UEA carpark can be a pain.
P. V.
I've noticed on many visits how helpful pleasant and professional the staff are....not sometimes but always...so nice
j. D.
Football pitches are fine, the problem are still humans, teams going intentionally to other's pitches cause they are better and at precisely 22:00 they turn the lights off and left us in the dark on a cloudy sky, zero light! What the..... :)))
J. I. M. V.
Kelly on Reception was amazing! Great work, always helpful. ✊
R. T.
Offers everything you'd expect from a giant, purpose-built sports park. There's a large range of five and seven-a-side football pitches, both 3G and the old style astroturf. The five-a-side pitches are fenced/netted in, so there's no risk of losing your ball to a wayward shot. Also outside is a large athletics track and sandpits for long jump, triple jump, and building sandcastles. Indoors there's the Olympic sized swimming pool, with large changing facilities, a huge gym, lots of halls and arenas to hire for various sporting activities such as basketball, tennis, badminton, squash, tiddlywinks, and backgammon. There's also a nice little cafe for those who want refreshment post-workout, or for those who simply feel healthier for eating and drinking in a sportspark. Parking facilities are good too, and are free to sportspark users.
D.
Amazing place: makes me want to get fit.
K. C.
Very good gym although can get rammed during peak times swimming pool great obviously very high quality facilities for a decent price and many options for personal trainers and fitness programs. Also offers many group exercise classes and a myriad of sports and clubs.
J. F.
Would be 5 stars but the cafe has only 2 vegan options. Sri Lanken curry which has always been sold out or baked beans on toast.
M. H.
I swim in the pool regularly and have done for years. It is clean, relaxed and beautiful. There is natural light and plenty of lanes. It is not over chlorinated. A pleasure to swim here.
C. R.
Great place with good facilities nice and clean too
K. J.
Brilliant facilities, lovely staff, will definitely return!
J. S.
Good gym. Nice staff. Helpful and friendly. Well equipped for the pandemic
A. H.
Got everything I would expect of a Sports Park. Que was big at 6.20pm but plenty of staff on hand. Only negative I would say is that people can peer into the swimming pool area from the main path outside. Think this should be mirrored or one way etc.
J.
Best place to do sports in Norwich. Lovely staff too, we get a football field nearly every week and has gone smoothly for years.
N. R.
Had a gym membership for about a year. Can't fault the gym it pool and the shower ect are to a high standard. But the gym is over subscribed so often have to queue to get into the gym and then wait around to get onto things. In the end this is why I left.
V. J.
Good equipped place with helpful staff and many options of activities to do. If you are a UEA student, the year-wide deal is really convenient (£150 a year)
C. L.
Excellent sports facility at UEA, Norwich, situated inside the Uni campus but open to the public. 2 large car parks within 2 minutes walk.
A. T.
Great facility. Good Covid arrangements. Superb instructors. Great to be back, dreading a second lockdown
R. B.
Lovely place!
C. W.
I just bought a coffee. It was packed. Some sort of sports event. I was short-changed. I don't plan on returning. If you pay cash do check your change.
c. a.
Great place to take part in many sports and exercises. Prices are very good as well and staff are friendly.
A. K.
Easy friendly access
D. N.
Always busy park. But people who prep courts aren't very polite. And it seems that they dont rush to do it. Few times had to wait 5 mins until basket court is ready.
A. C. &. S. D. L.
Working with Norwich active promoting wheelchair basketball to local businesses
S. H.
Great swimming pool, fabulous cafe, lovely staff. You can do pretty much any sport you can think of in fabulous facilities
C. P.
Great facilities, friendly staff, good place.
P. O.
Good friendly staff, safe exercise in well organised stimulating environment.
R. M.
Got to be one of my most favourite pools in the country - great 50m - awsome water quality - great setting - brilliant facilities and helpful staff
M. H.
Great facilities. Used it for the 3G football pitches. Free parking, but a 60p general entry charge
j. t. (.
Done a fencing compition her and was wowed by the facility didn't look round to much but several sports halls gyms a 🏊 pool and café really good place to trian I would imagine x
D. M.
I have been attending the Sportspark for 3 years. They are approachable, caring and considerate. I will definitely stay with the Sportspark.
A. J.
Friendly and helpful staff. Swimming pool is clean. You can borrow a safe for your belongings.
J. W.
Quite often a queue and very few staff on the desk, and much of the time turnstiles won't accept coins. Facilities are good though
C. B.
Take my girls to spring gymnastics. They love it. Great facility. Coffee could be better in the cafe.
P. S.
