Reviews of Safari Badminton Club & Coaching

Safari Badminton Club have provided many fantastic opportunities to allow me to progress with my understanding of the game and develop in many different skills and techniques. The support both from the coach and other club members is really encouraging and my confidence within badminton has massively increased week upon week. The 5 hour coaching days provide many great opportunities to practice and improve skills, enabling me to use these within matches. Steve is always happy to support on a one to one basis and he truly understands each individual player and how to help them on the next stage of their journey. I have learnt so much the past two years and throughly enjoy being part of the club.

The club has a great group of people and a steady pace that allows everyone to get game time as well as brilliant coaching from Steve. Steve gives you fantastic drills and personal tips every week. I constantly improve through this club and would recommend it to all levels of badminton.

As an adult learner, Safari badminton has been fantastic. There's loads of opportunities to get involved in different types of games, and they cater for all levels of ability. The coaching is brilliant, and very supportive. I've particularly worked with Jim who is very supportive and has a great ability to make something that appears very complicated very simple! I feel I've learned loads in a very short space of time and had great fun doing it. Couldn't recommend the club more!

I've now been to 2 sessions and thoroughly enjoyed all the activities and drills. The other people, mostly kids have been good sports and fun to play with, and the pace suited me and seemingly everyone else. I've played full singles, doubles, mixed, half court and mini games. Highly recommended for all levels (I've been playing forever and got trounced by a 13 year old girl). The free cookies yesterday were also a highlight!
Update: it's been 10 months and the club is going very well. In April I joined a competitive club and am now captain of Phoenixwood Men's 3 for this season. Competitive play is great fun, but without the regular attention to skill development there's no way I'd have come so far in 6 months or so. Thanks, Steve!
Update 2: it's been almost 18 months now and I've improved from having average racquet and technical skills (I've played a bit of squash over the years) and zero tactical knowledge all the way up to being able play competently against the men's 1st team at the club I play with. These players are at Notts league premiership level, and whilst I can't beat them very often at all, the combination of coaching and practical experience has brought me on leaps and bounds and I couldn't be happier.
Update 3: it's now almost 2.5 years since I started being coached by Steve. In the last year I've completed my level 1 and level 2 UKCC Badminton Coach's qualifications through Badminton England. I'm now delivering sessions on my own and playing at a much higher competitive standard. You get out what you put in, and Steve has been a great help at every step of the way.
Disclaimer: my brother is the coach.

The club on a Monday evening is great fun for all abilities. The coaching sessions with Martyn Lewis are also really good and an excellent opportunity to learn some new skills and techniques.

Excellent training sessions with 9 times national champion! A real help in improving my game. The weekly sessions are fun and involve almost constant game play.
