Reviews of Rivermead Leisure Complex and Gym
The parking was tricky as there's a lot of building work going on and the car park is vastly reduced from it's previous capacity. The building itself is tired and needs a refurb. We went for a Lego show, which was great, but the venue looks a bit worn out.
A great place to play sports and have a good swim in the main pool and the leisure pool. The gym is over a very large area but on Wed noon we could not see any trainer or staff inside the gym to ask advice or to gain help. The floor at places was unclean and most of the exercise machine frames were full of dust! There was a hole in the wall on the river side near the windows.
The other facilities are great but the car park area was flooded once again and does so each time it rains and the water stays for days in large puddles. The free three hours stay in the car park is a nice welcome.
The staff at the reception are very efficient and helpful.
Unfortunately male toilets near the squash courts are smelly, dirty. Soap dispenser broken, dirty stains on the urinals as if haven’t been cleaned for ages and not smelling neutral. Very poor indeed. Some urinals out of order for months.
Cant beat the price for the swimming pool. It's clean, well organised and spacious enough. Like that you book slots as it means it's never too full
Well this is a place for bcs resdinf dura puja..i went there with family quite big and can accommodate 300 people with keeping a minimum social distances
Pool facilities are fine, gym OK. "Dry" changing rooms need an update, especially the showers. No wonder not many people use them.
Well organised new deco done recently. Good customer service. But restaurants are still not open fully open. Restaurants hour on open and shut are not friendly.
The vending machines are NOT RUN by Rivermead with is a not good idea. A few people have ended up loosing their monies. When you approach the staff, they usually point you to a call number.
Honesty the amount of time it will take you to get through its a nightmare. I can imagine how much they make a month with "theft" monies.
Other places I have visited they have a voucher scheme or they have access to the machine directly.
I have been visiting this gym for one year; I like this place. There is a well-equipped huge gym. There is a one lack - cleanliness. Hardly anyone changes their shoes, it reflects on cleanliness. The floor is usually dirty. They should improve cleaning facilities. During the peak hours is usually busy in the gym.
It is huge and never fails to accommodate the huge Indian festive celebrations. Love it.
The last event was Durga Puja.
Very good swimming class for children. Nice and quiet facility for squash
Great workout at this complex , can't wait for the new building , just a pain to park at present ,, but plenty of equipment to suit all ages
The space to work in is good sized and airy. I've been a member nearly 10 years and find they do keep the equipment up to date and wide choices for all areas of body work. You can progress your strengthening and cardio work with their bikes, treadmills, free weights, resistance machines etc. Satisfied
A great venue for mid sized gigs but currently NO onsite parking for events due to building works. It would have been really helpful to mention this on the website which we checked before we came! Also grubby unlit unisex portaloos. Went right at the beginning of the evening and there was no soap or hand sanitiser and the seat and floor already covered in pee. Let's hope the building works include some decent loos!
Facilities are tired, but I can always get a badminton court. Staff are quick to check people in.
Good cheap one time pool entry. Very functional.
Very tired building, but it is over 25+years old, no leisure pool anymore good news is that building a brand new centre next to the old one.
Was good.wish they could provide balls and bats for playing
Decent atmosphereax and range of equipment.
Unfortunately data service is abit poor while inside
Great and complete Gym Installation, good customer Services.
Needs a lot of tlc.
Staff could be much friendlier and helpful. Not always forthcoming to help. The gym is pretty dreary and equipment looks like its had better days
I regularly play badminton there and it's great. Very friendly staff at the reception, never had any issues. However, the pop-up swimming pool is a rather grim place. The changing rooms are dirty and would really use regular cleaning during the swim times. They ask you to wear plastic overshoes before entering the changing rooms which seems like a good idea but 1) not everyone follows those instructions b) there seems to be a lot of confusion whether used overshoes go into the recyclable bin or not - some instructions for visitors would be great, considering Rivermead is aiming to become more environmentally conscious.
Sadly looking really dated now, pool nice and friendly staff.
Great place to swim, work out and play racquet games. We play squash in there and love it being conveniently located with parking facilities.
They provide free parking to members which is an add on. However car park gets flooded every time it rains.
There are plenty of indoor badminton courts, basket ball court along with 3 squash courts which need some repairs as plasters falling off and floorings needs to be redone. Wish there was a water dispenser inside racquet games section just like there is one in gym area.
Toilets are smelly with broken soap racks needs some attention.
Staff very helpful and cooperative . Membership rates are reasonable but they charge a non refundable joining fee which is a rip off.
It’s a great local facility. I have been bringing my daughter to the Rivermead crèche since she was 6 months old and also to tots swimming. She loves it! The Creche staff are great. I'd highly recommend based on this.
The only criticisms are that the shower facilities could be better and it would be nice to have more of a variety of classes. There is a lot of yoga and pilates which is great but not much else. Body combat / pump and additional spin and circuit classes would be fantastic.
Only used beauty sense, but excellent treatments given by Anna spotlessly clean environment all covid friendly, with a personal caring service.
These guys are life saver for some of the festival goers as they offer day passes to use the pool, showers and other facilities for a reasonable price. The pool is large with areas for kids and a small jacuzzi type section too. It is clean and friendly as well
Decent venue size wise. Was there for a record fair and all was well.
Went there for a basketball match of the Reading Rockets so haven't seen much of it.
Swimming lessons are still running for children, the new staggered timings are much better interms of how busy the changing rooms get.
Teacher 'Linda' as we call her has always been fantastic, I have had my child attend swimming lessons with her for over a year and a half. The new changing rooms make this the nicest option in a town full of not nice swimming pool places! The cafe people are also lovely and friendly. Swimming changing rooms have be redone and they are lovely now.
Went to reading comic con very easy to find plenty of parking pubs and restaurants close by
We ONLY went SWIMMING.
With that said, we love the 'beach' style pool.
The water starts at 1cm deep and gradually gets deeper.
We took our 3yr old little girl for the first 2 swims and she loved that she could walk to a depth suitable to her :)
They also have a wave machine that doesn't turn on too often (30mins?) and everyone loved it. Depending where you are on the pool depends on whether you get knocked off your feet or just feel a ripple :)
(Don't be scared, 90% of the pool is fairly calm.)
Last of all, they have a small kiddies pool with a small slide in the middle. Our little one went down it 100+ times :')
Water is heated better there too.
Excellent pool!
Attended a basketball game here today and my team, the Reading Rockets won 🏆..
Beautiful place it is, for games and similar activities
There are two pools with separate changing areas. We were not advised of this on arrival. The doors were not labelled. Signage is nonexistent from the foyer. We wandered around for a bit til we found a changing room, then discovered we were at the wrong pool. Had to ask directions to find the other pool. The wave machine was out of order and the pool was not as clean as I would have liked. The toilets were very dirty. The lockers (for the fun pool) are poolside, so after changing you carry your things to the locker, then have to go back to the changing room to shower before entering the pool.
Good gym plenty of machines
Excellent leisure center, massive gym, friendly staff and brand new swimming pool. Place was immaculately clean when i went to visit, unlike a lot of other center's that I have visited.
Would definitely recommend.
Nice place but could be cheaper. Pool is good for children over 4 but a bit busy and not suited to toddlers and under. There is a baby pool which is ok bit usually full of older children. Cafe is well stocked but a bit expensive and not many healthy options. Need to pay for parking which is annoying.
GREAT VISITS!!!!! The new changing rooms are lovely and looked after, the lifeguard staff were very helpful for my whole family!!! Although the centre is old and some of the facilities are ageing, the staff are trying their hardest to make visits to the centre as pleasant as possible.
Will be returning to take my kids swimming very soon.
Went for Durga puja celebration. Ample space for the event. Clean and well managed premises.
Great fun was had at Pop Up Play Village Basingstoke and Reading at Rivermead Leisure centre in the dance studio. Amazing fun was had.
I only use the pool, which is ok but recently has had erratic opening times, and one of the features my son loves which is the wave machine is broken. The new swimming pool is ok, but the temporary changing rooms are hot and unpleasant if it's a bit sunny outside.
I've mainly attended this complex for use of the badminton courts. Unfortunately there are some areas which could use improvement such as the car park, which should be free, as well as the centre itself, which always seems a little bit dirty. I once found an old plaster stuck to my shoe after playing, which was disgusting.
However the courts themselves are in good condition and despite the issues of cleanliness the centre offers a great many services. With a bit of TLC this place could become the best destination for sports lovers in Reading.
Great place myself and my son go very clean inside the gym with loads of cleaning stations and never over populated
The staff are friendly and work very hard to keep this place going, the Rivermead is dated and well past its 'sell by date' it's popular as a place for computer fairs and weddings etc and the foyer and cafe has been modernised. The swimming pool is small but has a wave machine and water slides for kids. Costs more than average to hire a venue.
Quite empty. Nice for swims. Could do with another medium speed lane. There is always plenty of space in the gym.
went to a dog show there. spacious rooms. nice clean toilets. plenty of parking space. It's in the middle of a industrial estate.
The restaurant was nice and clean and good food. changing rooms have shower as well.
Rivermead is nicer now that its had a revamp. However, the leisure pool/lagoon has been 'left out' and looks old and shabby. The gym is very clean and in fab condition, the equipment is easy to use with 'how to's' on each. Staff on reception desk look bored which doesnt make them seem very approachable.
As covid-19 restrictions still apply there doing their best. Also well spaced out chair and lots of cleaning before the lesson started.
Went to Reading Comic Con here. The vebue was great but the cafe was awful. The fokd was disgusting, the hot chocolate tasted like coffee, so the staff clearly hadn't cleaned the machine properly. There were fingerprints in the burger buns and the hot food was cold. The attitude on one of the women who worked the cafe was absolutely horrendous; so snarky and snappy.
Good size changing cubicles but the lockers are in a confusing place when using the swimming pool. The pool used to have water slides but doesn't any longer. It's an ok size pool and the wave machine is fun.
Go swimming there mon-fri and find the staff
Very nice and friendly
Only go once a year but never had any problems holds a reasonable sized comic con every year great fun and lots of things to do staff seem friendly and helpful no complaints.
I like the new gym, although it does need a clean. I enjoy the classes especially. Looking forward to trying out the pool at some point.
Great gym and fantastic new pool represents really good value
very good value for money, especially for parents with kids, have a creche for child to stay while you can work out in the gym. the pool is small for adult swim, but it's idea if you want to swim with your kids.
Attended a convention here, which was paid for, pity had to pay for parking as well.
Large car park due to overflow parking area. Coffee shop was okay however they forgot our coffee order so had to wait bit longer than expected. Didn't have any food so can't comment on the food.
Good experience at the centre, nice classes. Would recommend, but receptionists looked miserable..
Brilliant first experience, very helpful staff, lovely new pool, very clean all round,
Went for a concert. OK but a bit run down. The parking is OK but pricey (£5 for an event). Sound is do able but nothing like as good as a proper venue.
Rivermead sports and Leisure centre. Swimming pools Sport Gym football tennis basketball karate classes. Inside and outside sport pitches of all sorts. Place for family kids bit pricey for swimming pool which is more leisure pool then swimming. Water slides here. Wave pool here too. Membership here too help desk inside door. Bit of a trip from Reading town centre but nice walk down by Thames river. Where you can take cruise here to see the Thames river. Area around Rivermead is also where Reading Music Festival is held acres of field down by the Thames river.
Car park needs cleaning in areas! Pay machines...only 2, one out of order when there and both by entrance to sports centre
Centre itself clean, cafe good
Nice staff and appreciated the clean new 25m pool and changing area albeit was very busy. Knocking off a star as it was very pricey for a swim and you have to pay for parking
I appeal to the management to upgrade the toilet always seems ooo. Car park needs a good tidy up. First impressions and all that.
Lovely place friendly ppl there, like the variety's, and it's very wheelchair accessible
Good pool, however only two lanes and it's hard to get slots online, always booked up
We frequently use the pool. It's small and not good for actual adult swimming, but excellent for kids to play, also small ones, and they offer courses, too.
The badminton courts are great. The staff is very helpful. It's a bit far from the city area but a great place to work your muscles.
We hired a Badminton court. Nice surface, lighting playing area. Staff were accommodating.
Good local leisure centre. Great prices, good staff. Modern and clean. Hours free parking. Has all the mod cons.
Rivermead is no where as good as it use to be. Yes it provides a gym, food and two swimming pools but they have removed the slide from the main pool so it is not as fun as it use to be.
Very cold inside the changing area/toilets/pool ( kids got sick).
Water too cold for me.
Been twice , queued for 20 min to be told is full , no answer at the end of the phone very often .
Pleased to be able to use the pool with my concessionary Reading Passport but now 2 bus trips, compared to 1 for old Reading Central and walk to Arthur Hill.
Good swim ,clean place and helpful staff for new customers
Great facilities there. Great gym and pool as well as badminton courts and squash courts. Nice and clean and there are food facilities there that seem reasonable
Awesome place.
It was really nice to enjoy the event.
Really big space offering such a wide range of exercise activities. I've recently joined and its a really friendly, clean space.
We've only ever visited events being held in the various halls rather than the sports facilities.
It looks a bit tired in places but seems clean and well organised.
Well equipped, large and spacious gym, friendly staff and reasonable price. What's not to love
Great facilities with VERY helpful staff! They just helped us cancel an incorrectly issued parking fine where we could produce virtually no evidence.
I visited this due to attendattending cbt bike test and did not really use the facilities. but I different recommend it as possible gym and has a new swimming pool
Rivermead Leisure Complex has been the base to Thames Valley Taekwon-Do since its opening in 1986.
Offering the opportunity to train within the venues' different environments: competition mats in Main Hall, mirrored wall in the Dance Studio, air conditioning in the Thames Suit, as well as the new Gym, the Rivermead Leisure Complex is the flag ship training base for Taekwon-Do in the Reading area.
The facilities provided have helped create numerous regional, national, and international world class Pro Taekwon-Do athletes from all age groups.
Went here for a trade show, so didn't get round to looking over the place much. Car park could do with being a bit bigger and perhaps dropping the parking fees?
Not a bad of selection of facilities - needs a little refresh, swimming gets quite busy at weekends
Came here for a record fair. Nice sized hall for all the stalls. Nice place, though bit of a walk from the train station
Free parking for 3 hrs
Good spin class.
Astro turf 5-a-side on a Monday. Decent pitches but could do with better markings
Great venue for functions and fairs etc. It has excellent staff who very professional and helpful.
IT'S a great sport centre, but please make the sucruty better because I heard that someone
............. signed in and stole the iPad's by the way I swim there so this is y I know this
Great place to work out
Great location, friendly staff and good facilities
I would consider it to be of medium sized facility. It had smallish pool, gym with changing facilities, large sports area and a shop/eating facility
The Kids school held their sports day here and they made sure they were well looked after! Thank You.
Swimming pool is simple very nice and wam for the babys. They had a revamp a few years ago looks good
This is Rivermead Gym in Reading. Hindus celebrate HOLI ie Festival of Colours festival in the month of March. Few glimpse from March-2018.
I've been here more then I've and for different things and I can say that I had a good experience each time I was here. The staff are very nice and are nice to answer and questions.
Good facilities, staff on the front desk could be a bit more friendly and helpful.
Whilst the gym & pop up pool are very good the main sports hall needs a lot of repair
Looking tired in places but the courts & lighting are better
Great 50plus event every Month and Fri mornings, badminton, soft ball, walking football, ping pong
Nice place but the field is occasionally run over by pykies
Been going here for 16 years... Good standard gym
Very tired looking leisure centre. Squash courts are a reasonable price.
Community leisure centre serving lots of different activities - gym is large & varied
Nice swiming pool! I Wish they had a swim suit dryer.
Nice leisure center. Good for sports (gym, swimming and racket sports) and local events.
Nice staff .but could do with more talc in swimming pool area needs cleaning more
Good place to visit - attracting thousands of people in a month. Parking facilities was good.
Great place to take a break. Swimming good. Food good especially cheesy fries. Thank you.
Helpful and friendly staff. Great facilities.
Recently refurbed, pretty nice place. Gym is basic but good.
Small compant based here for my CBT. Compact, basic but SO well organised. Lightning Training
Big halls food good swimming . Keep fit . Dance class . Planty car space.
Good publicly available multi-purpose facilities in Reading. Badminton, table tennis, football, swimming and gym facilities
Good value, good facilities but management a bit haphazrd , sometimes chaotic
Didn't go for the leisure centre was there for the rockers brilliant venue
I went to a concert here and it was good.i have never been to the gym
Quite grubby, building and car parks need an overhaul. Car park flooded last time I went - this happens every year...
Clean, hot showers, good for lane swimming, but have to pay to park
Good gym, friendly staff, lost cost and I really like the classes.
Great staff very polite and helpful . Brilliant Gym best yet
Facilities are very good.. reception could smile more and be more welcoming
Visited for the annual Warfare game & trade show. Excellent venue as usual.
good place, lots of activities. 4 stars because payed parking
Average, good gym, but everything else dated.
Rough around the edges.. needs investment especially to the squash courts. Lots of facilities though.
Good leisure centre. Better if longer swimming pool
Good staff but no catering at 4pm
Leisure facilities close to town, provides gym, swimming, outdoor football, Squash, badminton plus.
Looks good. May try a swim when not too busy...
Nice leisure centre. Needs a proper swimming pool!
👍

Well positioned leisure centre close to Reading city centre.
Great local amenity with plenty of parking.
