This is a friendly pool for all ages. They always help children get better or even learn all the basics of swimming and some tricks like under water handstands or roly - polys. There is a 1 meter part of the pool, and a deeper which they will swim in when they get better. They also dive or jump there (when conformable). There is a small pool for younger children or those who are just learning to swim. The changing rooms are a bit wet even if you would dry your feet. I hope you join and like it! ✨🤽‍♀️🏊‍♀️🏊‍♂️🏊

Me and my daughter Rosa have been going to shirley swimming school since she was 6 weeks old and I couldn't recommend it more. We attend Wednesdays with Philomena but if for any reason we can't make it they allow us to make up the lesson at another date. Philomena is a wonderful teacher, who knows how to get the best out of the lessons. My daughter is so confident in the water and I owe it all to the school

My son Vihaan goes here every Monday evening and he absolutely loves it. He had a fear of deep water before he started but now enjoys the lessons. Miss Babbs is a very good teacher and the pool is nice and clean. There was flexibility to move the lesson to another day when my child was sick.

Both our girls Inaya and Elyse love coming here, they've had a lesson once a week since they were only 6 months old, They love their teachers Jane and Babs and have great fun in their lessons. Both are getting better and better at swimming all thanks to the teachers and staff. We love the fact that we can come here and swim for free during the public swim hours and always a friendly welcome from the staff. Great food and coffee on site as well for a little snack while I'm watching my eldest. Update - we still love it here, they've made it much easier to view their lessons and book catch ups with the new website. Would highly recommend.

Back to basics for a pool but with basics done really well. Lady on reception (Natalie I think) was excellent and really shows how to do good customer service well. Baby pool is nice and small and well heated. Sessions are booked in advance so not too busy. Toys to play with as well. Adult pool looked decent for lane swimming. Changing rooms for men was compact but good enough.

The pool and teaching staff are great, I highly recommend them for lessons, but maybe bring your own food and drink to have while you wait because the staff of the bus don’t seem to have picked up that all their customers have 30 minutes to order, have whatever they bought, and get back inside to pick up kids. And that’s on a day when they haven’t somehow run out of coffee for the coffee shop.

Harvey loves his lessons with Aj on Fridays he is not a confident swimmer but Aj is so patient with him and really gets him trying. Can't thank her enough. All the teachers and reception team are so friendly and helpful nothing is to much trouble.

It's a small pool, ideal for swimming lessons / kids / people who find large pools overwhelming or who are gaining confidence in their swimming. It's shallow at both ends with a deep section in the middle, again ideal for learners or unconfident swimmers. I attended an aquafit class here which was taking place at one end whilst there was a lesson for adult beginners at the other - great use of the space! Staff were friendly & helpful, the changing room was totally communal (no cubicles) although there were toilets inside the changing area, so I guess you could use that? Another plus point is you can pre-book your activity online - no excuse not to go then! 😏

Literally our favourite time of the week, for both of us. Philomena is a great teacher and we love coming every Wednesday morning. Always found a parking space, changing rooms are always clean. We go to the baby 9-18 months class. Just sad I didn't find it for my first child!

All three of my girls have thoroughly enjoyed their lessons at Shirley Swimming Pool over the course of the last 9 years! My eldest two progressed through swim school right up to turtles, earning badges, making amazing progress and loving all their different teachers. My youngest loved having Jane in the small pool who encouraged her every step of the way and she loved her swimming lessons in the beautifully warm pool. She is now in breaststroke with Ashley and has come on so quickly, really impressed with her swimming. As a family, we love the opportunity to come swimming together on a Sunday, and the flexibility of the two sessions and the older girls love trying to climb the ropes and play with the floats and balls. Thanks Shirley Pool for providing such great teaching, and a friendly atmosphere.

I have been taking my son Joshua to Shirley Swimming pool since he was 3months old. He is now in 18 months+ class and he loves it. They have progressed the classes as he has got older and built his water confidence up. His teacher Philomena is wonderful with all the children assessing their needs and individual progress and adapting the lesson accordingly. It is great that the pool allows you to complete catch up sessions if your child is ill or on holiday. It is the only pool, I have found, that does this. It is also competitively priced compared to some of the other baby/children swimming lessons.

My son is 5 1/2 and can swim really well (100m) thanks to the great teaching at Shirley pool. If you are thinking of teaching your child to swim I would highly recommend it. They make it fun for the kids as well. Having floated out to sea in the inner tube of a tractor tyre off the Scottish coast many many years ago, I cant stress the importance of teaching young kids to swim. It’s a life saver!! Shirley pool excel in my view in their teaching.

My son loves swimming at Shirley' s swimming pool. We started when we moved to Southampton few months ago when he was 18 months and he is looking forward to every Saturday, when he has lesson with Jess. Jess is the joy of life, really nice and kind with our little ones, who all love her. She is excellent at her job and has a great connection with the kids. The water in the pool is always warm and makes our lesson really pleasant, and helps me bonding more with my son, as this is the only opportunity during a busy week, to spend time just the two of us, doing something we both love! My 5-yr old daughter has been in Sam’s Tadpoles class for a few months and absolutely loves it! (This is in the main pool.) She has progressed very well and is so much more confident in the water now. To begin with, she had real trouble getting in the colder water (compared to the baby pool) but Sam was incredibly patient and helpful. As well as swimming well on her back and front, she recently showed off to us her ability to do handstands, forward rolls and even diving in head first! All the teachers they've had have been responsive to their individual needs from water confidence to stroke techniques. Our children (Leo & Olivia) have been attending lessons at Shirley for the last 5 years+ and have had a wonderful time. The swim teachers (like AJ) are well trained, engaging and ensure equal levels of fun and progress whilst the admin team are well organised and make everything easy to sort out (timings, make up lessons etc). We have also had 3 swim parties for our daughter here and each one has been a huge success (the wobbly inflatable is a hit!). Highly recommended!

Now Dolphins and the new Coaches are amazing. I don't think you could find a better place for your Child to learn to swim and move on to competitive swimming .

I bring my 1 year old baby for weekly 30 minutes lessons. The price is reasonable, especially because he can swim any other time for free. The lessons themselves are fun and the teachers friendly and knowledgeable. Their make-up policy for lessons you can't attend is very good and reception staff are quite understanding! I've had to move lessons for nap-related reasons a few times. The female changing room is equipped with changing mats and tables, high chair, etc. to make changing yourself and your baby easy. Definitely recommend this place.

Amazing and skill swimming instructors at Shirley Swimming Pool. My son Jack has been attending swimming lessons at Shirley Swimming Pool since he is three years old from the beginners swimming lessons to breaststroke with AJ. He is now a confident swimmer and can swim up to 150m. The owner of the swimming pool Dave is very friendly with all the kids, and he jumps in the swimming pool to teach the kids during busy time. You could see his passion for teaching swimming to the kids. They also do adult swimming lesson and pool parties. The receptionist is always very friendly and helpful. If you can’t make a swimming lesson, you could reschedule it if you give them plenty of notice. That’s mean you will never lose out on a swimming lesson. There is a big red bus just outside the swimming pool served food, drinks and ice cream if you are feeling peckish. In the summertime, they even do BBQ food. I saw Dave the owner given out fresh make summer fruit smoothies to kids and parents to try their new smoothy flavour. There is also a playground area just outside the swimming pool where kids can enjoy playing with their friends after and before swimming lesson. I would recommend Shirley Swimming Pool swimming lesson to anyone as the instructor there are professional and skill.

Jane taught my son to swim when he was 5. Now he is 13, has completed all his badges, progressed through all the strokes (and all the teachers!) and is in Dolphins Senior Swim Squad. He's had loads of super healthy exercise and learnt a life skill which allows us to let him sail, paddle board, river swim, etc with confidence. How did he turn into a good swimmer and why did he keep going to Shirley Pool? He didn't have any special ability but everyone at the pool made the experience fun and rewarding and he wanted to keep going back and keep accepting new challenges. The dedication and enthusiasm of the staff make the pool a special place. And the Big Red Bus makes great coffee (and cakes and pizza.....). Pool parties are fab too! Then there's the water polo and the Christmas costume party and the cakes (did I mention the cakes?)...and pizza. Shirley Pool forever!

Bringing my 3 year old granddaughter Elia O'Connor for her first swimming lessons has been like coming home.Her father Edward and brother William both learnt to swim at Shirley pool and we all have very fond memories of that time. Elia swims in the Toddler group on a Thursday at 11am with Philomena, who she loves. Philomena is an excellent teacher and Elia has come on leaps and bounds both in her ability and confidence. The organisation of lessons is slick and professional and clear, with the facility for make up lessons an absolute boon. Shirley Swimming Pool is anchored in the community. Its family values and shine throughout. Everyone is very friendly and helpful and nothing is too much trouble. Its no wonder children come from far and wide to learn to swim here. Went last Thursday for a quick dip and it was exceptional. Very clean and a welcoming atmosphere. The staff were very polite too. The prices are great too, especially for Southampton. Some places you'll be £7 out of pocket for a swim! Here I paid £4.20 and had a lovely swim. Tip: Check their website timetable for the best time to swim, otherwise give them a call. The front desk staff are exceptional.

We have been coming to swimming classes since my baby girl was 2.5 months old! She is now over 5 months and looooves water! Splashing around every time she gets in the pool, dansing around to all the new songs we were introduced to. It is an absolute to watch her. Jess - our lovely teacher - is always making the classes fun introducing new plays and songs every week! Highly recommend to all babies out there looking for a warm swimming experience. I’ve been using shirley pool since my eldest was a baby at 3mths old now 16 . All 3 of my sons have been coming since they were baby’s . Staff, teacher , are all wonderful theirs nothing to much trouble for them . All my boys love swimming and that’s all thanks to shirley pool and the teaching staff . My two eldest are very strong condifent swimmers . The youngest is only 3 but has just started swim unaided . It’s a very important life skill to learn how to swim . As you never know when your need it .

This place is spectacular and run by an amazing family. Great facilities and the best cafe in a ten mile radius. It can get busy but that's what happens to popular lovely places, people go there. I can't see that it's anything to complain about. Sometimes after the schools kick out the car park might be a tad swollen, that, however is certainly not the pool's fault. Again its a popular busy place and everyone insists on driving. Walk, run , ride your bikes... there are any number of alternative transportation methods. I've swam here for ages and have never had any issues whatsoever. Smile, swim, have a bite to eat or a fresh coffee whatever you decide you're in the best possible hands. Shirley pool for the win. :)

My Son Started Lessons With Jane In The Little Pool When He Was 3 And Has Progressed Through To Breastroke Within 18Months, He Currently Has Ashleigh On Mondays & Jacob On Thurdays. My 3 children attend Shirley pool. My eldest daughter Alisha is now 6 she has been coming since she was 12 months old she is taught by AJ who has taught her since she was two absolutely amazing teacher my daughter loves her her teaching is first class so amazingly caring and supportive of the children praising them all the time so we always find a lesson that she teaches as she moves up. my little boy Jayden was 11months and is now 2 he also had AJ she had just started doing the baby classes and you wouldn’t of even known it so incredibly caring and good at her job he has now moved to under 5s and has Jane who is also such a fantastic teacher and my little girl Mya was 12 months and is now 15 months She also has AJ and again she loves her best teacher ever we love Shirley pool thank you everyone looking forward to continue to watch my children grow.

Fantastic place for adults and kids to learn or exercise, no complaints at all. We've had 2 birthday parties there, both times fantastic and have been sending 2 boys since they were babies. Parking is easy as long as you don't mind a 2 minute walk. After school kids lessons are crazy busy obviously but other times (school hours, weekends, evenings) it's a lot quieter. Our eldest now wants to swim in time trials as a result of this pool while our youngest wants to swim multiple times a week. The whole site is under constant renovation, in our time that's a new playground, cafe, staff facilities, new showers and on. Clearly someone cares a lot there.

Its a great pool. Learnt to swim here myself with some very encouraging swim instructors unlike oaklands pool which is closer to me who refused to teach me to swim as i wasn't good enough swimmer for them when i started. Only problem with this pool is the main pool starts off cold but you soon get used to the temperature you can swim in there pretty large pool with two shallow ends either side of a large deep one in the middle which is carefully devided to avoid confusion. Its a great place to learn and a great place to swim for the experienced. Highly recommended

Both my daughter's attend swimming lessons at Shirley pool. My eldest Holly W is very fond of her lessons and her swimming instructers Hugo and Bee. Holly has been attending the under 5 group on a Saturday for a few months now after having a break from baby ans parent group and are really pleased with her progress. We have seen her confidence grow in leaps. Holly was very unsure at first, not wanting to jump in or going under water but now she is like a fish. Rosie 20 mths does toddler/ parent lessons with Philmena. Rosie loves the songs used in the lesson, jumping in and playing/ using the toys and resources which are used to mantain her attention and engaged in her lesson. Great to meet others of a similar age to both my daughter's. Swimming lessons and awareness of water is a valuable skill in life and are pleased to be at Shirley pool.

I haven't swam at the pool but Luke Perry has worked for me as Coasteering instructor for the past 3 summers and is the best waterman I have ever worked with. If you want to learn from someone there is no better instructor. He's a lovely person too a credit to his family.

I have two children at Shirley Swimming Pool - Okechukwu and Nkechinyere. Okechukwu is in the front crawl class and Nkechinyere is in beginners. Started with the local swimming pool from toddler age then back with them in foundry lane school then later years with adult lane swims!!! Very strict on space and discipline or it's too dangerous and the teachers will get angry!!! They make regular time table on leaflet and there is normally someone to help on front desk!!! Changing rooms are quite unrelaxing on a personal scale!!! Strictly swimming!!! No mucking about!!! Or really don't go!!!

Fantastic Morgan loves his breaststroke lessons with Sam, he has had lesson since he was 6 months old. These lesson saved his life when he fell into a river while out on a family bike ride, Shirley are fantastic.

I love the freedom of being able to go swimming in the mornings or late evening, as I have a disability the walk, talk and slow late is also perfect. The easy access to getting in the pool is also great, I can't get in or out of other swimming pools.

I love the lessons but the changing room floors are absolutely filthy on a Saturday. I've never seen anyone clean them and they are disgusting.
