Reviews of Nature's Larder
G. H.
This is a gem of a retail outlet, which I have made a point of visiting on a weekly basis since returning to Aberdeen from my expatriate adventures in Dubai and the Arabian Gulf in 2011.
Alan & Marlene were the original proprietors & there was a wider variety of products then, whilst Alan had the encyclopaedic knowledge of a health doctor & if you gave him the chance, could talk on the same subject, of which there were many, for half an hour and counting. Marlene was also a natural customer service person.
The "new" owner Hazel, has however, taken the shop to a whole new level since taking over about 6 years ago, in particular completely renovating / modernising the premises to a very high standard including bright lighting and much easier navigation of the aisles. Hazel and her staff are super-friendly, and a shop visit is a "cut above" a mall shop experience.
Most health food products are available, such as natural liquorice, loose leaf teas, store-packed organic cereals, rye breads, fresh farm eggs and vegetables, cocoa powder, flours, numerous store-packed spices, vitamin tablets, organic fruits, dates & raisins, organic rices, organic pastas, peanut butter, jars of honey, organic beans, and coca-coated almonds.
In comparison, Holland and Barrett for example, is rather ordinary.
I highly commend "Nature's Larder" for healthy foods and a superior shopping experience :)

I love this shop. It has such a good selection of products not available in main shopping stores and such an amazing array of teas! The staff are so friendly and even though I feel like I have to watch my step amongst the towering walls of aromatic spices and healthy food I love getting my ingredients for baking, cooking and tea drinking from them.

Fab local shop with lots of great pantry items in biodegradable packaging (found out today that all Nature's Larder branded bags are compostable!) Great selection of beauty items / natural cosmetic products at the back too.

Anyone who gives less than five stars must be nuts. Or perhaps isn't eating enough nuts.. Hey! I know a place where you can get these and /many/ other healthy foods you may need, want or desire ...
Still going strong after all these years (she's done ye proud, Alan), and while their isn't quite as much "stuff" as in the old days, you can actually find things now on your own, and all without knocking down teetering columns of stacked all-sorts and mountains of mixed grains-in-a-bag and who who-knows what else lurked in that ALAdiN's Cave! (as we affectionately knew it)
A wee while back, I moved to the other end of the city centre and I admit I somehow got lazy with my shopping trips. Also, walking the length of Union Street these days is a bit depressing. At any rate, a couple of the things I picked up here today, I actually considered buying online this morning. That's when I knew I had to make the trip.
And not only lazy, but I looking at the prices online, I would have spent THREE times the money. Crazy. Maybe I'm not eating enough.. something. Hmm. I must go back for a proper rake soon, without the kids!
So, a win. Friendly staff and a fantastic selection of healthy foods, well laid-out. I noticed local produce, as well as lots of organic. I will back regularly, no doubt.
And hey, maybe if all us healthy (or aspiring to be healthy) people from the East-end get walking up and down Union Street (on our way to Nature's Larder, of course), thinking healthy thoughts, it might just cheer up a bit, get some more real shops, like this one is.
Also: The bags are bio-degradable and compostable.
Every box checked.

A wee Aladdins Cave of wonderful health products. You could get lost in the choices surrounding you. Exceptionally welcoming staff, willing to listen and meet your needs. IBS sufferers, don't delay speak to Alan, his knowledge of this affliction is astounding, he gave me advice that even my doctor didn't know and, no more IBS👍

Natures larder, well. After a few attempts of traditional medical so called cures through ointment and pills nothing really worked until a visit to Alan at Natures larder who showed me a page from a book asking me if these were the symptoms i had been having, i told him yes.
His recommendation was to up my daily dose of Vitamin C from 1000mg per day to 3000mg per day and to take a Homeopathic drug called Stinging Nettle Drops 20 drops in water by morning and 20 at night, skeptical as i was at the thought of stinging anything entering my system i followed his advice and within 48 hours the very angry red sun inflicted rash had all but gone.
Dependency on Pharmaceutical cures are all too common and we have run our whole life's on them trusting what the family doctor tells us, but these days as side effects become more and more frequently reported i am a tad anxious at taking those Chemicals that we all depend upon.
Natures Larder stock so many great things that i never knew were out there as well as many i did know and speaking to somebody like Alan, his wife and team is great. Its a modern day curiosity shop filled to the brim with so many interesting products.
Pop in and see him and have a chat, if its not for you or you are against having a go then all is not lost as you still have the medical drugs to depend on, but for someone like me i am loving the way the natural option makes me feel as opposed to swallowing side effect medicine.
