Reviews of Margiotta Dundas Street

Just like any other store. The things we hoped would stand out e.g. the fresh pizzas/ice cream - were dry, bland or forgettable. Don't believe the hype.

I discovered this shop by mistake as I only needed some bananas...well guess what? I ended up having a very nice surprise as the shop is super refurnished with all italian (and not) specialities. Freshly made panini and a very good looking pizza. I am impressed.

Very nice shop, wonderful selection, helpful and friendly staff, and a nice atmosphere. There’s something to suit all tastes

Great Neighborhood Market! We're staying on Great King Street for a few months and are so delighted to have Margiotta just down the street. The store is bright, well organized, very clean and has lots to offer.
They have a large selection of "Cook" frozen food that we've found to be quite good and an excellent option for eating something uncomplicated at home. We've tried several and all have been very good - the Chicken & Mushroom lasagne is a favorite. There is a very large selection of extremely reasonably priced wines perfect for some satisfying home sipping.
There is a wide variety of choice in almost product category and the people who work here are incredibly, nice and helpful, which makes shopping here a real pleasure.

Reasonable, but only stocks low fat dairy options for some reason. The lack of full fat Greek yoghurt and cottage cheese is disappointing. Margiotta stocks locally sourced food, including from a farm I personally know to be looked after by good people (Phantasie farm) so it is a great place to shop.
Edit: Based on the reply from Margiotta staff, I may just be showing too late for the full fat stuff which must be high demand :). Thanks for the reply.

This is what we like, a local shop with a great varied selection and all at a reasonable price.
Excellent.

Great selection of food, bakery, staff are awesome. Really friendly and helpful. This has to be mu favourite shop. Their pies, eggs, bakery absolutely awesome

Strangely whenever I go in here they're always playing either the Star Wars theme tune or the one from Superman... it adds an air of drama to stocking up on some essentials on a Tuesday night! That aside, it's a great wee shop with a good selection of locally made products (think oils, sauces and tablet) as well as big brand favourites. The range of magazines is better than most supermarkets carry too, even stocking the American versions of certain magazines.

Growing up in Edinburgh I really used to like the convenience of the Margiotta shops and they always felt a little different to the usual newsagent. Now a days, for better or for worse, mini 'metro' branches of supermarkets have a superior range and pricing and are putting shops like this out of business. This seems to be an inevitability for this little shop at some point. Prices are a bit higher, there's a little less to choose from inside. I like the smell and atmosphere walking around the shop but there's nothing new about it or exciting. In my head I think of it as better value and choice than an RS McColls but less choice and value than a small supermarket chain and largely obsolete.

Such a wonderful store with such a selection! Don't like the deceptive initial appearance of the place fool you, the store has huge array of products in the back covering household items to a well stock alcohol range.
Right on my doorstep and always the first place I visit when grocery shopping.

A much better shop than those Tesco/Sainsbury locals that keep popping up everywhere. Margiotta have good fresh produce, not the piles of 2 for 1 junk food the big supermarkets are trying to offload as you walk in the door.

Great shop with a wide range of produce. Prices are a bit higher so maybe not the best place to do your weekly shops , but it's great for snacks and lunches.

Great store, lovely staff. Great selection including fresh local produce. Has a Farmers Market once a month and 10% Student Discount.

Excellent shop, that stocks good quality items. Staff are very pleasant. Great to see an independent thrive in the city.

Bigger than it looks from the outside. Great produce at reasonable prices. Staff are always pleasant.

Excellent professional staff and nice selection of products. Good wine selection at good prices.

Unfortunately, the staff was not as helpful as I thought. I searched a lot to find the things that I wanted. It was such a waste of time.
