I was really impressed by the atmosphere of this restaurant and how welcomed I was made to feel by Paul who gave me some great advice on the menu. Carlos our Chef prepared a super tasty Braised Brisket and the meat was simply perfect! I will definitely return next time I visit Edinburgh.

The Grain Store had really good reviews so I had to try it during my weekend trip to Edinburgh. The service was excellent and I like its vintage deco. My personal favourite was the pork belly dish - real crisp on the outside, juicy and tender inside.The chorizo mix that came with it was a little too salty for my liking. We also had the squid ink bun with fried cod cheek, a cod main, chocolate, oyster and fondant. Tbh, I was a little disappointed with the squid ink bun, maybe I had a wrong expectation but apart from the colour it doesn't have much of a squid ink taste? But overall still worth a visit!

If you love food... This is the place for you. Chef Carlo served the most delicious food for a very large group for a wedding party. We were made to feel most welcome and all the staff were lovely. Thank you Paul and his team for looking after our big group. This is a real hidden gem, atmospheric and ultimately delicious food.

The location is very central, but the restaurant itself is situated away from the hustle and bustle. It’s relaxingly elegant inside and I’d describe the service in the same way. The menu selection had something for everyone, and all was delicious – clean plates all round. We live in Italy…. we couldn’t however resist trying the Panna Cotta as the description was very inviting. It’s the best I’ve ever tried!! Perfect in every way, and Liz enjoyed her large spoonful too. Next time we’re in Edinburgh we’ll definitely be back.

We have been to this restaurant a few times, always fora special occasion. We were there this Friday and as usual the welcome was warm and friendly. The service was excellent and the food was good. The lack of fresh vegetables was a huge disappointment and the price of the wine was eye watering, the evening was very,very expensive, and seriously not worth it.

I first visited The Grain Store for my university graduation dinner in 1999. And then went back for my wedding lunch in 2022. What can I say but wow, it was incredible then and it's even more incredible now. The service, food and ambience were even better than I remembered. The food is exquisite. Every dish we had was sublime. Champagne, more-ish tapas followed by delicious meats, risottos and the best chocolate pudding I have ever eaten. Nestled in a beautiful cobbled street under the castle its romantic, candle-lit, low-alcoved rooms were the perfect setting for my wedding lunch. It was the highlight of the day. Most notable though was the care and attention Paul gave us, every single person commented on how lovely and thoughtful the staff were. You cannot miss a trip to this restaurant. It's incredible!

A hat tip to The Grain Store. The welcome, the service, the food and the venue all worthy of mention. The owner Carlo was charming and hospitable upon our arrival. And the maitre d’ was thoughtful, detailed and knowledgeable about the Scottish menu, including the sources and the ingredients. And oh boy what ingredients. The oysters were simply the best I have ever tasted - and I’ve been dining internationally for over 50 years. So extraordinary that we ordered a second platter. All 5 of us dining were unanimous about the freshness, the taste and the preparation. This was followed by plates of cod, venison, beef and we had a very happy group of diners. The wine list is just right. A good mixture at different price points; all carefully selected. We drank a bottle of the delicious Italian white Gavi, followed by Cab Sauv red by the glass (a good recommendation from our waitress). The cheese plate, the chocolate fondant, the pannacotta were all delicious desserts rounding out a first class meal in Edinburgh. Thank you The Grain Store! Set up inside Victoria' street arches, this is a hidden gem 💎 with the most inviting and accomodating people, all working to make your evening an unforgettable experience. Really makes a difference. A superb hidden restaurant!!! It's a very old building, Tucked away on the 1st floor of the building, with no obvious signage but it is definitely worth the search! Booking is recommended, the staff was very friendly and accommodating, told us the history of the place, very very interesting!

started with some delicious creamy scottish oysters yes! onto a salmon starter with flavour deeper than the mariana trench yes! and now the mains - a wild atlantic cod number in a delicious mussel bisque, and on the other side of the table, succulent braised venison shoulder with triple cooked cabbage and some intense liver toast. dessert finished off with a decent taste tatin and the nicest panne cotta ever made yes! all paired with a very nice bottle of red wine staff were very welcoming, particularly the friendly man who welcomed us in and made us feel at home throughout. cosy by the candle light tunes could’ve been slightly less foreground

Outstanding restaurant up one flight of stairs off the very picturesque Victoria Street in Edinburgh's old town. My wife and I missed our chance to dine here two years ago when we last visited Edinburgh because we arrived as the restaurant was closing... on this trip we made sure to arrive early! One of my favourite spots in Edinburgh for some scottish cuisine! The atmosphere is very warming and authentic with exposed granite walls, log burner and small, intimate dining rooms. The staff are very knowledgeable of the menu and can give great advice on the food and drink selection. I organised a Christmas lunch for my work colleagues at the Grain Store and we all absolutely loved it! The food was delicious and service was top class! Apart from the food and decor we were really happy with the music. Not the usual Christmas songs that you get bored of in October but classic jazz :) I would definitely highly recommend this place.

The Grain store is an awesome restaurant! We were a group of 9 people (book in advance!) so we were seated in a private room which was very cosy. The group had meat eaters, vegetarians, vegans and gluten intolerant and their kitchen could accommodate all of us. The vegan only had one option but was very satisfied with the risotto he got. Many wines on their list as well, from the manageable to the very expensive and knowledgeable staff helping you choose without trying to push for the expensive wines. The staff was in all ways very nice and friendly, they could have a bit of a laugh with you as they serve and was attentive as well. All in all a very good experience and probably the best restaurant I've been to in Edinburgh.

Great place. Very friendly staff and even better food. We were a large group with a baby and they gave us a private room which is great for us because of the baby. I ate the venison which was quite good. The price is fairly consistent with a place of this quality. Don't pay attention to people who say it's overpriced. This was the first restaurant I went to with my wife after our marriage in June 2014. My wife was 6 months pregnant at the time. The person who served us (who I think was the owner) was fantastic. Food was certainly good but the price for it was certainly exaggerated. For the price they charge someone would expect a 360 degrees experience, not just the food experience. The place décor may be unusually "suggestive" but the restaurant room is cold and badly lit, tables are not dressed and service can be patronizing. Again, for what you pay you get similar food experience in a much better context in many more top end restaurants in Edinburgh. We enjoyed the night but on balance we won't go back.

Hands down the best restaurant in Edinburgh. The food is devine and the service is amazing. I eat my steaks blue, when my steak was delivered the waiter told me that the chef thought he may have slightly overcooked it and asked me to take a bite. The chef was right it was, but only very slightly, The waiter then told me not to worry, as the chef had started a brand new steak already and it would be out in a couple of minutes. Facing a torrential storm, we stumbled up the stairs to Grain Store unsure if they were open. Though we were nearly 30 minutes early, they accommodated us with a table and some menus to wait out the coming storm. We were intrigued by the menu and ordered a cheese plate with selections from the store downstairs (IG Millis?), and a plate of Scottish beef ribs. A unique little place with charming staff and excellent food in an informal warehouse setting. There are maybe only 6 tables and 2 staff waiting on tables. But it felt like we were the only ones there. The appetizers were all exceptional - octopus, foie gras, and beet root salad. Both the foie gras and octopus were the best we've ever had. The beet root salad was excellent but a bit less distinguished. The meats - venison, pork, and lamb were each perfectly done. The lamb was my favorite with a crispy top and medium rare inside but both the venison and pork were excellent too. We shared a nice bottle of wine that the sommelier recommended and it was perfect for the meats. And the desserts? Absolutely incredible. Pavlova, creme brulee, and the finest cheeseboard I've yet been served. There is a cheese monger downstairs contributing to their fine selections. It was so good we visited the cheese monger the next day. It's not easy to spot but it's worth the effort.

The terraces of Victoria Street are perhaps the loveliest part of ld Town Edinburgh - and if they can stop tearing down the ancient buildings it will remain so. Upstairs at No. 30 on the West Bow is one of the sharpest restaurants, focusing on Scottish produce and house-made ingredients long before "farm to table" became a cliche. Such a beautiful atmosphere deserves a visit.

This restaurant we visited several times - we have had good meals here. very romantic and service is impeccable. Dimly lit is certainly a great feature when going for a romantic meal. The place is quiet, several 'snuggle corners' where you feel you are the only ones there. However some unfortunate places spot lights also create uncomfortable glare, as i had sometimes - but they can be adjusted. The food is seasonal (ish) and you can get proper meals for your money. The place is beautifully kept / restored and you certainly not feel like you are dining in the heart of Edinburgh. Recommended!
