Reviews of Waitrose & Partners Comely Bank
T. M.
Nice store with the usual supermarket offerings. The female staff member behind the butcher counter was really helpful checking for extra produce when there wasn't much left behind the counter. Good to pop in for a change and to see the different items on offer.
A. U.
Yes, it's more expensive than other grocery stores. But they have a good selection and high quality. I adore their packaged salads.
M. C.
Staff splendid -100% for effort. Poor selection of Scottish cheese and NO Scottish meat.
No Scotch lamb- EVER. No Scotch beef, at least none labelled as such. Disappointing support of a country's produce when you are trying to cater for the populace of the country.
J. B.
All praise to the gentleman who sliced up a whole cooked turkey breast for me this morning. It was a big ask at no notice.
Thank you.
J. B.
Has most of what you need though not the biggest supermarket. Quality good though can be pricey. But it is a Waitrose so you expect that.
M. B.
Quite disappointed as I had high expectations for Waitrose...I feel M&S is better...they had a fantastic choice of wines and spirits though...
T. R.
Always love to pop in here when I am in the vicinity. Their own range is in line with most supermarkets. Some things are more expensive but the quality it very food..I managed to get some reduced items..great wine range ..orange wine and organic wine to.
Staff pleasant and always helpful
L. T.

Looking for Douglas Laing whisky Gauldrons Waitrose selling at £21.49 online but when phoned shop was told it was reduced further to £16.25. What a bargain for a great whisky.
T. D.
Just collected my food shop and Karen on the service desk was amazing , her telephone matter and when she delivered my shopping to me on level 1. Please pass on my thanks to Karen
c. m.
Very helpful woman behind the cheese counter, spent ages helping us find the right cheese for my dinner, even looked up her cheese book!
M. M.
Always good to shop there Friendly helpful staff Quality products
A. M.
Well-stocked, great staff. Can get a bit busy at some times of the day.
The "plant-based foods" vegan selection has good options, although perhaps at the expense of some old vegetarian favourites.
There is a fresh sushi counter, too, and a fair selection on the "free from" shelves.
I think the frozen foods section could do with being expanded and modernised to have the upright cabinet-type freezers with full doors.
A. M.
Typical Waitrose store... bigger than some with a good choice of goods.
Accessible multistory carparking free for 2 hours. Public toilet but no cafe/ coffee machines.
Clean and felt safe with everyone still wearing masks and markings of 2m still on the floor.
D.
Always find something you fancy
Mind the price uplift for quality
Staff exvellent
R. M.
Great selection of quality products. Love getting a free coffee when I visit with Waitrose Card. Multi-storey car park is a bit tight to get in and out of with big cars though.
A. G.
Its a well stocked store with plenty of choice and a good car park as well. Today my wife and I shopped there. We normally shop in Tesco's or Sainsbury's but we both noticed that Waitrose prices are significantly higher than our own stores. In fact, I think this might be the most expensive supermarket in Edinburgh. Am I wrong..?
A. D.
Great shop in terms of quality of customer service.... so many staff for a relatively small shop. Enjoyable
M. C.
Staff are absolutely tops. Sadly,I do not shop here very often, despite living just across the way. No Scottish produced beef, lamb etc and the cuts are called English names. Potatoes from Angus emblazoned with Union Jack's etc. They do stock Scottish Potatoes, correctly labelled, but overall I find their use of Scottish growers deeply disappointing. The cheese counter has about 3 Scots varieties. A joke. I have written and yes,I got an answer, but not a solution. So ,I shop at Lidl's. They recognise Scots producers AND please their customers.
S. H.
Great place - not too big but crammed full of goodies, with a particularly strong bread selection. Free parking is really useful and plenty of space whenever I've been. Usually a queue of about 20 people at the moment but wait time is no more than a few minutes. Definitely worth a trip.
R. T.
Great produce (if you can afford it). Friendly staff. Very cold air in the shop - bring jacket!
R.
Friendly staff, fresh food and affordable prices. The only thing would be that the security guard was on his phone a lot
V. T.
I have been coming to Waitrose before & since becoming disabled The staff have always been friendly & helpful especially during Covid 19 restrictions! Good quality products CAN be found at lower prices.
S. G.
Always lovely to visit for a treat. Not for the lower-salaried of this world.
D. T.
Very nice grocery store, obviously catering to locals. Great selection of all types of products expected in a large grocery, with an added bonus of an alcohol selection better than many alcohol shops. Lots of lesser found Scottish brews. Only thing to note is that the cold drink section is more limited. Highly recommend if only to people watch.
D. L.
Great free coffee, quiet store
F. W.
This place is doing a great job with social distancing, limiting people in the store. Also generally very well stocked, and staff are friendly and helpful.
As a suggestion though, if anyone from Waitrose reads this, it's really unhelpful to play tannoy announcements asking people to hurry up with their shopping. Why do you think it takes people so long? Because we can't find anything! Work out a 21st century way of people finding stuff, other than walking up and down aisles until we chance across it, and you'll have people out in much less time. And probably spending more too.
C. R.
Very busy, but it's that time of year
J. G.
I do love a good grocery store. This is the largest and nicest one that I've come across in this part of the city so far. It has a bit of an upscale feel to it, with some attention paid to aesthetics and packaging. It's no Whole Foods, but it will do. Nice cheese counter, bakery section, wine selection.
I would have hoped for a little better from the produce section, but I suppose I need to adjust my expectations to the local climate and season.
M. S.
Popped into Waitrose for some lunch, only had £1.10 on me so didn't hold much hope, expecting to leave with little more than a packet of luxury crisps.
A fortuitous shortcut down the cold meat aisle and a tiny quiche caught my eye - but alas I was 40p short.
When I spotted some Waitrose Essentials scotch eggs, pack of two at a mere £1.09, my mind was made up!
Sat in my car I was both nervous and excited - would my money be wasted on a rubbery egg and ground up pig ear like you'd get with a lesser supermarket's value range , or would Waitrose come up with a breadcrumb-encrusted ball of meat and egg goodness worthy of the brand?
Opening the cellophane upper my senses were immediately tingling with delight.
I can't lie, my mouth was immediately filled with saliva. I may have drooled.
As I bit into the outer layer the delightful savoury smell combined with a taste I can only describe as heavenly - texture, bite, moisture - each element was perfectly balanced.
Within a matter of minutes I had devoured what must be one of the best scotch eggs I've eaten to date. Top 5 for sure.
And at 54p!
5 stars for the egg, 5 stars for my rooftop picnic - thank you Waitrose.
(I got as far as Lothian Road before I pulled over and quaffed egg number two. Sublime!)
B. R.
Very helpful staff even called us a taxi. Everything we needed was in stock and as always a good range of Fairtrade, ethical and sustainable options.
D.
Quality produce, well laid out shop. Easy parking with helpful staff.
S. C.
Good selection of food, but can be a little pricey,
G. L.
An amazing walk feels like walking into the middle of the Firth of Forth...today was quite pleasant but with a very fresh breeze right in your face...
Fantastic views up towards the beautiful bridges over the Forth as well
Even although I've lived in Edinburgh many years still feel privileged...😁🙂
L. O.
I like the variety of items that Waitrose stock. I especially love the vegetarian options and that they label their own wines if they are veggie friendly.
If you sign up to the My Waitrose card, then you get a free tea or coffee each time you are in the shop.
Very friendly and helpful staff
D. H.
This is a lovely branch of Waitrose and the staff are just excellent. I have been visiting this shop since it was a Safeway’s, Morrison’s, Somerfield and now Waitrose for several years. The staff are hugely pleasant and helpful, many of them knowledgeable and eager to do all they can. The shop stocks an excellent range of speciality goods. I’d recommend that you avoid going in during the local school’s (Broughton High School) lunch break and after 15:30 too. The shop is well served by buses such as 24, 29, 42, 37, 47, 19, 38.
B. A.
Great product but I felt it was a bit limited in the range of products sold. Good overall though.
n. b. (.
Good supermarket easy to park right above store with lift or stairs. Gets very busy between 4 and 7 weekdays with school mums. Fresh bakery good butcher and fish, with unusual cooks ingredients not in every supermarket
E.
Ewan is fabulous - five stars for him.
I have been shopping in Waitrose Comely bank for over 10 years. Ewan has always met me and welcomed me and enthusiastically talked about many topics like football. He has an amazing memory for details! His smile is really cheery and I always leave with a chuckle. The world really needs more people like Ewan.
I would miss Ewan if he was to leave. One of the friendliest individuals ever. The staff make this place.
Yes, I would recommend this supermarket to others.
M. M.
My favourite of all big supermarket chains in the UK. Vegetables are noticeably more expensive than Tesco, but the fresh produce over the counter is considerably better and more varied. The branch at Comely Bank tends to bake the bread a tad too little, and the nearby school means the best loaves are taken early, so bear that in mind. Staff is nice and helpful, in my experience.
K. G.
A queue to get in, however, very well managed and it didn't take long at all.
Once shopping, I felt very safe, there was plenty of space and everyone was adhering to the rules.
D. M.
Love Waitrose. Great choice of very healthy food you can't find in other supermarkets. Lots offers in both food and alcohol. Excellent customer service in the Edinburgh branches ..
H. W.
As I perambulated gently around this store last week, I realised why this Waitrose feels such a good place to visit - it is all down to the keen and responsive staff, of whom there are many. Queue lengths are kept to a minimum and there seem to be almost no limits to how helpful the staff can be - the fishmonger will suggest recipes and the checkout assistant will go off and find you the newspaper you overlooked. With the free coffee that comes with a MyWaitrose card, this is a go-to store.
S. C.
One of two branches in town, this one serves the stock bridge/comely bank area. I've never done a fill shop here, but found it good for quick top ups, food to go and things to take to friends. Similar to (although maybe not as enticing as) M&S there are lots of tantalising treats and special products you don't find elsewhere. Its a bit posh, so the reduced stock is scattered throughout the store rather than in one part.
A. L.
Summary: Lovely example of a Waitrose.
Big enough to have everything you could ever require, Comely Bank's Waitose, found just off the edge of Edinburgh's fashionable Stockbridge area, is one of my favourite destinations for the weekly shop. It's spacious, exhaustively stocked, clean, offers free ground coffee to loyalty card holders, has ample customer parking, and rarely has long queues if you shop sensibly. It even has a Lloyd's pharmacy should you have a prescription from your doctor or need some medical advice.
Contrary to popular expectation, the prices are reasonable -- certainly no more expensive than most rivals -- and the range of stock, from cheaper ownbrands to exclusive items, is broad. But what seals the deal for me is the ever helpful, always cheery, staff -- it is such a contrast to the sullen examples found in so many other supermarkets.
However, be aware this shop does have peak periods. It is sited close to several schools, so can be very busy in the morning, or as the bells ring at the end of the day, so if you enjoy a relaxed shopping experience, avoid these bustling times. Fortunately, at these times extra staff are always ready at the tills, so long queues may form, but they rarely last long.
F. C.
It was wonderful. Up at dawn and in shop at 8 30. Got everything we needed except some weird light bulbs. Left something for the sleepy heads!
J.
First time in a long time all fridges working. Nor convinced on the new my waitrose discounts though, nothing happened on my shop....
C. G.
They did not have what I wanted therefore that's why I gave them four stars. Apart from that it is a fine supermarket.
M. C.
Helpful cheery staff. Nothing too much trouble. Great fresh meat and fish counter.
J. K.
Not the best experience in shopping. Overpriced and the freezer cabinets were empty. Also the reduced items did not have big reduction.
E. (.
Good quality products, many organic things.
M. C.
Staff seemed friendly. Was quite busy at lunchtime and the toilets weren't the cleanest.
S. M.
Clean, well stocked store with polite helpful staff.
T. M.
Usually long queues for check outs but it's gotten better since they installed self scan despite it being right at the back of the line of tills. Car park handy if a bit tight.
D. M.
A good variety of fresh fruit and vegetables and also vegan products
L. M.
Lots of variety but expensive.
H. M.
My hubby's favourite supermarket, he loves the idea of grabbing his free coffee at the end of his shopping, have it with a biscuit or cake whilst still in Waitrose reading a newspaper.
j. k.
It is a nice waitrose.

I like Waitrose products and ethos but get irritated by a lack of cohesive hands on management in relation to service and stock levels and displays on the shop floor.
R. M.
Good allways
E. H.
Easy to park, good range of products.
D. R.
Honoured offer that is showing online but not on shelf edge
N. G.
It's ok. just a usual super market, but one that doesn't hold their beer section in a chilled area; Which is weird.
