Brilliant location. Plenty of parking and you could pay either by coin's or by online. A lot of vendors are selling so better go around and have a look first before buying straight away. There's a tea shop at the corner and a washroom as well.

I went to the fish market with my Mum, sister and my nephew. Seeing variety of different types of fish was amazing. We didn't know which one to buy, they were all good and cheap. Fortunately, we went early in the morning, therefore, we managed to see different stalls with loads of various fish and sea foods.
We finally brought sea bass, sardines, sprats, large prawns, salmon, mackerel, and large tiger prawns too.
There is a car park facility for the customers, however, it is not free. You can take your own shopping trolly, however, you need to leave it at the entrance before you enter the market. There were lots of water and ice on the floor, which was a bit slippery, we had to be careful whilst walking, it made my shoes very wet.
Today my Mum will be cooking variety fish dishes, I cannot wait to enjoy the fish feast with my family.

There are about 100 stores on the first floor of the 13-acre building.
When we go here, we go around the market and have a cup of hot coffee at the cafe.
Then go to the store and choose what to buy.
You can easily find it by looking at the HSBC sign on the building that you saw on the road of your visit, and you can meet all fresh frozen and refrigerated products.

Amazing market. Totally worth the early start if the day. We got there at 6 and there were still plenty of fish to choose from. Prices are between 2 to 3 times cheaper than in supermarkets. There's plenty of paid parking spaces and also a cafe that serves breakfast (closes at 10AM)

There is simply no place for fresher fish anywhere in London. This place has all local fish for both fresh and saltwater.
The quality is great and as a customer you can get there for 7 AM, although please note some stalls will be closing as the place shuts at 8 AM.
Staff is friendly and willing to explain and help although don't expect to be given recipes for fish, they are all about turn around.
Salmon here is marvellous both fresh and smoked. Actually smoked is a smashing bargain 5 blisters for £10.
You can't go anywhere else this good at 5 AM. Fully recommend!!
T. B. C.
Amazing place. We went crazy seeing such a huge variety of fishes. Mostly sea fish. Reasonably priced. The only disadvantage is, they don't cut it onto peice and uncleaned fish.
But overall a very good experience.

We arrived at 5pm on a Wednesday, huge car park with roving security staff. £2 for 2 hours of parking, you can pay by coins or app. We strongly suggest walking around first to find the best deal. We saw sea bass for £1 each, some are selling £2 each varying sizes. Fantastic deals on prawns. Lobsters were approx. £30/kg. Sea bream is also cheap at £1 each (ASDA's 2 for £5). Large salmon for £15, slightly smaller is £10. 2 bags of mussels cost £5.50. Crabs were £6/kg. You need to factor in the inconvenience of waking up early, parking and travel costs. If you are bulk buying, definitely worth it. Floor is wet so appropriate footwear is highly recommended. You are not allowed to bring trolleys inside, security staff will ask you to leave it at the entrance. Traders are very helpful. They have small plastic bags but if you have too many to carry, they will give you a big black plastic bag. There are also sinks with air dryer if you need to wash your hands. There are also frozen items to choose from. We will definitely be back.

10 out of 10. Fish and seafood from all over the world. Not as convenient meaning the opening hours: 4.00 am - 8.30 am but it is worth it! Some shops don't accept card payments below £50. There is a small cafe at the entrance where you can have an early morning coffee. The floor is wet so be careful.
M. K.
If you're looking for fresh seafood... This is the best and largest inland fish market for you to visit.. you can also get Asian seafood here....
A. M.
Much smaller than expected and only one stall had scallops and just one stall had oysters. I assumed all of the produce will be available from a few different stalls. Prices are good and produce fresh though.
M. D. M.
Fantastic 💥 💥 💥 Place to get some fresh good fish 🐟, prawns and lobters.

I don't visit this market enough for the value it offers. Amazing variety and the seafood and fish are great. Mostly friendly traders, makes the 4AM visit worth it. Highly recommended. Thanks for my delicious mussels

Arrived to Billingsgate fish market at 5.30am on Saturday (29/01/22) and there was no queue. It was already crowded in the market at this time. Found a parking spot on arrival and no issues with the parking ticket machine. Good selection of seafood and bought some prawns, squid and crab. All very good quality. Happy with my visit and would recommend.
林.
I went at 7:30am but the tills were closed or cleaning. Worker told us that actually it starts at 3 am and finish around 7 am.
Suggestions , go around 5am ,if you want buy something,, you need to go earlier the better.
I will update the post when I will come back at 5 am, for my followers.
Must to try the seafood breakfast !!!
H. K.
Billingsgate fish market is where you can get good fresh fish in London, highly recommended 👌😀
M. R.
Went on a Friday around 6am and there were no crowd. Went straight inside the market as there were no queues. You will get fresh and frozen fishes. There were huge varieties of fishes. Take note that the floor will be wet almost everywhere...
M. R.
Excellent place to get fresh seafood and fish in all kinds and shapes. The opening hours are from 4 am till 8:30 am, not convenient for a lot of people but it’s totally worth it.
A. D. P.
Billingsgate Market is the largest mainland fish market in the UK. Good prices, great variety of fresh and frozen fish and seafood, great location. It is worth getting up early and enjoying this spectacular experience!
D. L. K.
Very busy and lively environment at 4:15am when I got there. Friendly vendors, not pushy but engaging with their customers. Prices are good not cheap but inexpensive in many cases and from my observation the quality of products were really good.
J. J.
Love this place. I'm a huge fan of fresh prawns but hate paying the price of prawns in the supermarket. If you can brave the early start, Billingsgate Market is the place to be. Seeing large variety of fish, shellfish to buy is awesome. Your money goes far. Cash and card is accepted. Parking is £2 and I think you have a 2 hour limit. I still wear a mask but many don't, so keep that in mind. The fish is fresh and your car will not smell as long as the fish water doesn't spill. I would suggest that leaving a cooler bag/box or a couple of extra black bags in your car to transport your items home.
B. C.
One of London's treasures! The selection of fresh seafood is amazing. If you're not good at sticking to budgets, take only the exact cash you intend to spend, as it's easy to get carried away.
Some merchants only accept cash, but most accept cards now.
n. p.
This is the place to go for fresh oysters.
We always stayed up late to get there in the early morning.
Next time we go, we hope to try the breakfast at the cafe.
L. Q.
Was busy day ,prices have gone up but suppose that's on alot of everything to be honest however personally is better than buying retails if you like 🐟🐟🐟.They do need to update the website though because I checked a night before it said is open when on way i checked it said the market was closed I was like noo way am going back already half way and didn't loose my sleep for driving out early hours for nothing glad I didn't turn back. The market was open but was very busy may be I kinder understood how busy it was 🤒🤒🥺
Worth it
A. P.
It is very nice place you get variety of fishes at good prices. You can buy it in bulk also. Fresh fish is always available there. And also different types of shell fish you get. There good space for parking also.
M. F.
Best place to get fresh fish. Wide variety and good quality
M. M.
I've been going here for a few years now. I went today and the Salmon prices where extortionate along with the bass and bream.
Also for the people that have not been there before all the prawns are previously frozen so please don't freeze them again.
Please check before you buy aswell sometimes they sell fish that has gone off so be careful.
W. C. L.
It is a very wonderful place, with different seafood sell in cheap price.
A. K.
A wonderful fishmarket brishiling with patrons alike. It has crustaceans and fish in variety of forms, such as cooked and fresh and frozen.
There are crabs cooked and alive.
There are lobsters alive ready to be taken away and cooked and there also in tanks that can be purchased.
There was also a shark on display (when I was there ) for £50 pounds and it seems a good price, however you can haggle with them.
There are various assortment of fish and prawns for sale. Some take card but mainly cash. Its two hours maximum stay on the car park and as this is written during corona virus 2019(Covid-19) you must wear a mask and carry a sanitizer also social distance.
K. K.
All types of fishes are sold here at wholesale price
You will get Crabs, Prawns, Fishes, Mussels,Squids.
Best time to visit this is from Morning 6AM to 7:30 AM

Have been using this market to buy fish for few years now. Good place for those who know how to distinguish a fresh fish from a less fresh one. There's a great choise of fish, moluscs, prawns etc. Be ready to clean the fish at home. The market policy won't allow fish mongers to clean it on site. Also it is more convenient to buy more, so if you have a party or bigger family than the hassle is worth, otherwise no, go to local fish market pay little extra. Anyway it is a good experience to see the vibe of one of the biggest fish markets in UK.
F. C.
Good price and lots of variety to choose from.
M. B.
I just love this place. It may seem daunting if you've not been before but the people are friendly, keen to sell to you as a member of the public, and will point you in the right direction if you are looking for something specific. Best to take cash, as some merchants are cash only, but just wander round when you first arrive, get a feel for prices and quality across the stands which are there, then make your purchase. A great experience with a real buzz atmosphere and quality fish and seafood at excellent prices.
PS. Avoid going prior to public holidays, as its SO much busier there to the extent that car parking becomes limited, and I suspect prices may be a little higher due to the extra public demand.....
J. A.
Lock down, still open :) we went for short shopping. It was very wet day. But fresh fish and seafood. We bought 25 oyster 🦪 18 GBP and skinny long squid 🦑 is very fresh! Fresh salmon fillet for 15GBP good price good fish! Parking now we can pay online or number.
P. D. V.
Fresh fish available. You can bargain for a better price or more fish. You can definitely try cooking at home when you get such good fish for such an incredible price.
M.
Nice fish market, very good quality of fish, very wide choice. The only problem the opening hours: very early in the morning. I saw a huge amount of prawns and crabs. Very impressive all the strange variety of fishes too. Like every good markets sellers try to persuade you to buy.
S. G.
Brilliant early morning trip for Londoners or tourists. As you’ll expect, there’s a range of fish available for far cheaper prices than usual.
We visited at half seven on a Saturday and there were lots of traders still selling (a few had long cleaned up and left).
Traders were friendly and along with fresh food there’s also frozen items available.
Make sure you visit soon! 🐟 🐠 🐙
T. R.
Packed with seafood and with people at 4:30am this morning! Early Christmas shopping.
D. Y.
So ... the queue is very long but if go at around 2 o'clock you gonna be one the first costumers and took the best pieces of fish the prices start to be higher but u can find every fish u needed ...
A. W. -. k.
Great place to get bargains fish for your shop/restaurants.. but get there early.. happy fishing
A. F.
I live 45 miles from this place and it opens at 4:30, we left at 4am, but worth the travel, only downfall is that parking fills very quickly, so probably best to get there earlier than I did which was roughly 6am. I would highly recommend looking around before making a purchase as people have different prices for things. And everything is paid for with cash. The floors are wet as expected so wear non slips. A lot of fresh fish as well as frozen and a vast variety. Enjoyable morning considering I came home with a 4kg lobster. Would have been 5 stars if I didn’t struggle for parking.
M. A.
The best place to buy fresh fish in London
Affordable prices compared with the retailer shops around the capital.
Best quality in the market and amazing atmosphere , it’s unforgettable experience.
You have to be there as early as 5:00 AM
To get the best bargain and quality.
I. M.
Billingsgate market is a popular fish ,sea food, prawns, salt fish,etc..market in London. You will find any kind of fish you are looking for. The price is reasonable compare to High St fish shop. The trading time is from 04.00am to 08.00.
T. D.
The greatest fish experience ever!
They open 4-8 am we came there at 5am and it was already full of people however they serve you very fast so you don’t spend much time in the Q. The place is very well organised not that smelly to be honest. The prices are much cheaper than anywhere in London, for that kind of quality and freshness.
Please make sure you have cash with you, bcs they don’t take cards and there is a cafe in side where you can find cash machine but it will cost you £1.95.
The prices are fantastic: 1kg of prawns XL £8 or XXL £10. I took both but there is not much of a difference.
The lobster with one claw is £15 p/kg and £20 p/kg with two claws. And they are alive and blue lobsters!!!!! Absolutely gorgeous
Seabass is depends on the size I took 5 for £10. The eyes were bride and lungs very red. And the taste afterwards baked in the oven was extremely good.
I got one crab and it cost me only £2.80!!! I cooked him at home and made stunning crab pasta, and it’s enough for 5 people.
Fresh scallops with the shells are £1-£1.50 per each, super creamy and tender taste.
The squid was £8-£10 per kg. Have not cooked them yet 😅but they look stunning!
Also got 1kg of broken scallops they were also very good and very creamy for the pasta just great!
In total I think I spent around £70 but my freezer is full and had such an amazing dinners!
The whole experience was amazing and it was hard to wake that early but it definitely worth it and recommend everyone to visit this place!
S. K.
More varieties, cheaper than any other fish market prices...
C. A.
Woke up early to catch the morning market and wasn't disappointed- beautiful fresh fish at knockdown prices to beat anything on the high street. I don't think I'll ever shop any other way, it's well worth the effort. There's even a cozy little cafe on site with amazing food.
B. D.
Amazing fresh fish and seafood!!!
R. “.
Awesome place, fresh fish and seafood, prices bit higher but it worth it,coz some of the seafood still moving...
S. പ.
Best place to buy fresh fish and seafood. World selection. Market open early morning, Tuesday to Saturday 4am to 8:30am and parking near by £2 for two hours
J. H.
I'm a big fan of this fish market especially when I want to buy big salmon. Most of time I could buy very fresh salmon. Quite satisfactory almost all the time. Hope they extend opening hours though.
L. t.
We came around 530am, lots of choices half gone . would suggest to come before 630am. There are about 3 stalls sell lobsters: c&a /selsea , different sizes. we bought one for about 23pounds. Big salmon fillet is about 13pounds, and xxl prawn about 8pounds per kilo .
Highly recommend !
L. S.
Great wholesale fish market with good prices If you look. Got prawns with head on for £8/kg and smoked salmon trimmings for £2 for 200g. Place is clean and the workers are friendly. Your clothes may smell a bit fishy after you leave though. Got there at 6am and still plenty of deals and fish variety (although if you want the real good stuff, go super early). If taking the DLR, get off at Blackwall and follow the signs under the bridge.
G. W.
Fresh landed fish on both Thursday & Saturday's bulk buy and save! Plenty of choice - An early start is essential.
J. R.
The perfect place to buy fish in London, if you like to wake up early.
2 ways to approach it, come as early as possible for the best choice, or come at the end for the cheapest price.
You can also enjoy a fishy breakfast on site. A tener for supstential amount of scalop.
T. B.
1. Not very big. But the good stuffs sold out quickly.
2. No children is allowed
J.

Although a lot of shops take cards nowadays.
Seafood were super fresh and tasty
S. K.
Best place for buy seafood and fish! Very good prices and selection! Highly recommend!
S. B.
Good and cheap selection of variety of fishes. Only sad thing is that the queue is massive. We thought we will be ahead of the queue if we had started early. A long queue had already been built up at 4 AM. Obviously, this is only because of the social distancing measures.
C. R.
We arrived at 4am when market opened. No queues. Good car parking ( £2 ) for 2 hours pay and display. Different varieties of fishes. Available inside market. Please note it’s wet floor all around. We got very fresh fish. Compare to prices it’s cheaper if you buy in bulk. Wheelchair not accessible from parking zone. Washrooms/ toilets Available. If you need to take break for coffee ? They even have the coffee shop.
M. E.
Cash only everywhere. 2 quid for parking but you need to get here early. Great offers on fish, can get a whole salmon for 11 quid which is wonderful for a centerpiece roast. Prawns sold by the kilo with 1 kilo minimum - approx 10 quid per kilo depending on vendor. It's best to look around as some stalls near the entrance are charging slightly higher. Very wide variety of fish but expect to clean your own.
B. B.
Super busy... took ages to find parking eventhough I was there at 4am... queued for about an hour but ones inside it was pretty quick...
M. I. H.
Cool place to buy wholesale fresh and frozen fish. Lot of vendors and many different types of fishs to choose from. Highly recommend ...
Z. G. F.
Very quiet this morning don't forget your parking change
R. B.
Come here if you want to buy fresh and frozen seafoods. Much cheaper than supermarkets, they have different varieties.
L. R.
If you are a fish lover... This is the place to buy fish at wholesale prices.
I. R.
The fish is very good about quality e good prices however you must check round the stalls.
There is car park available and you use a ticket machine or your phone to pay for it.
d. f.
Great selection of all types of fish, with decent prices, but you need to get there as early as possible. Once it's Gone it's Gone.
E. Y.
I probably don't get the best selection as I don't get there until 7am, as I rather want to sleep longer. But, the selection is still decent and sometimes they give you offer, before they close down around 8ish..
Y. C.
Huge selection of fish at a fraction of the cost at a supermarket!
Y. C.
Busy fish market. Went on a Saturday morning 4am & still had to queue for over an hour to get in. Good selection of shellfish at wholesale prices.
V. V. W.
Lovely fish market atmosphere, hone your bargaining skills, bring cash. There is a cash machine but charges £2 fee. Friendliest and quality stall, look out for James & Nosh. The only stall that sells squid ink is the one at the other end of the entrance. Grab a hot breakfast at the cafe after all that shopping. Sign up for the Billingsgate Fish course. It's expensive but we'll worth it!
A. T.
Got fresh fish again! From now not buying from supermarkets as getting cheaper and fresh!!!
B. R.
Brilliant place to visit, great experience, friendly people serving, had to queue to get in cos of covid, only 30 minutes though. But well worth it. Cant wait to do it again.
A. R.
Great place to buy fresh fish for a good price.
J. O.
Fresh salmon and trout at rock bottom prices, literally still jumping off the crates-worth the 3am alarm
A. P.
Great place to get some fresh fish at very good prices, especially if you have a freezer at home. A very wide variety of seafood including sushi grade salmon if you ask around! Don't forget to drop by the café to grab a scallop and bacon bagel!
w. t.
Wasn't as big as I thought, I drove up from Eastleigh left 0400 arrived 0600 found a policeman there was VERY helpful. Bought all I wanted and left at 0700 good result.
D. C.
Interesting and fin place to visit in London! Love the seafood except for smelling like one of the fish in the market afterwards.
R. P.
Love the fresh fish BUT 2hr queue and zero social distancing!!
G. F.
Good selection....perhaps I was expecting more competitive prices....but everyone have to make a living
M. P.
Fantastic place to buy fish. Excellent quality, variety and much mucho cheaper than the shops. Worth going
T. B.
Q) How was Billingsgate market?
A) Fishy, very fishy.... but in a good way.
M. H.
I love this please more than any fish market in the world. This is the best fish market in London. It's Trish the smell is very strong which very hard for me to breath but still the place in a prime location and this market connect with millions of people and there bread and butters.
E. “. L. G.
Very busy, but organised. The foot traffic is managed very well. So you are able to move around the market quite easily. If your a fish lover, prices are very reasonable and the staff are friendly and polite.
J. C.
It was a good time. My advice try and get there around 5am as it tends to get busy with parking.
F. C.
Excellent for all fish needs, bit full of people today but that's understandable as its Christmas week
H. M. (.
An experience that's really needed to be done.. all different ocean and sea creatures in front of you to buy at a briliant prices.
Mostly you get better quality then in supermarkets and it feels and taste much much better. Plus the price is so much more different then super market
I usually go here every monh once it twice. And I buy all the fight and other for a whole month or more.
This place is briliant to buy things when I I got large family's to my house to entertain. As it makes the feeling of very well thought off meal and very organized food. Specially when you out a large fish that the super market selling for 50 or 60 and you bought it for 14
E. 9.
Queue was big. Good prices on fresh fish though!
E.
Great place and the atmosphere was very exciting. Curteous seller's. saw sea products I've never seen before.
I. T.
The best place to buy seafood. You can find here everything you want for a good price.
A. B.
Market still as busy as ever, but I'm finding better bargains can be had if you shop and look at local suppliers.
A lot of the bargains of yester year seem to be gone.....
Also, be aware, you have to pay to park in the cramped car park.
J. E.
Arrived 4:30am and was very busy with some patrons already leaving with their purchases. Definitely worth visiting, however do try and arrive before 5am, as by this time alot of fresh seafood, particularly King prawns and large prawns, were diminishing quickly!
L. D.
Nice to see Billingsgate back to pre-covid normal
t. r.
Billingsgate for all your fish and sea food requirements be there early as it does get very busy also take cash coins for the parking meter
C. C.
Excellent place to go for ya fish.
Highly recommend Bobby's Fish Stall
Propa geezer, honest and grear prices.
E. O.
Great place. Word of advice!!! . Make sure you bring shoes you don’t like or a spare because the bottom of your shoes will make the car smell like fish from walking around. Also bring black bags to protect your boot. Basically take every precaution to protect your car from lingering fishy smells.
R. I.
If you want get the best fresh fish, come before 6
V. T.
Great for experiencing the hustle and bustle of a fish market, get there early! Try the scallops and bacon bab at the café.
C.
Outstanding experience interacting with true locals and seeing a huge diversity of fresh fish and seafood - a memorable moment!
S. J.
It was busy as usual. Went on a Tuesday as its fresh fish day. Lots of fresh fish and other sea food. Plenty of Salmon, sea bream, sea bass and prawns amongst many other fish from around UK waters and from around the world. But get there early as all the good stuff is normally gone by 5!
R. C.
Great morning. Fun atmosphere, cheap good quality fish and delicious breakfast
B.
Fresh fish for good prices..
C. W.
Great experience. Really friendly vendors.
V. V.
Good choices for seafood
Fresh fish and frozen fish
Open from 4 am
S. A.
Today experience was very different.Very long queuing but move very quick going in and got out very quick as it is not packed up.You get served quick.
A. M.
There used to be a cafe in there no more 😔 and there let you in Dead on at 4am, when it used to be at 3am
H. d. (.
Make sure you pay the £2 parking pay and display fee because apparently there is a camera that will recognise your number plate when you leave and probably send you a ticket to your doorstep. That's what I was told by the police working at the gates
A. T.
We arrived at 03.30 and entered only at 07.30
4 hours in the queue under the rain.
The market has lots of choice.
The most popular items is salmon and prawns.
The prices are vary, so walk around before you purchase something.
The only bad things there is no oysters at all.
B. 2.
Best in the business. Super friendly and extremely helpful if you ask. A real taste of authentic London. An institution in its own right and you can pick up some amazing finds there.
The car park is pay and display with a £4 minimum so bear that in mind. Ideal space is as close to the second set of stairs - coming into the carpark on the left wall - as you can.
K. A.
Very quite... But like always great quality seafood..
E. n.
This is the best place for all your fish and seafood needs. It boasts such an eclectic mix and speciality fish and seafood spices, and all at extremely competitive prices than you will find to buy anywhere else outside this historic landmark London fish market.
The opening hours for Billingsgate Fish Market are very early in the morning from 4am until 8.30am Tuesdays to Saturdays only. It is closed on Sundays and Mondays.
However, during this period of the Covid-19 pandemic, be prepared to queue to get inside this wet fish market, as the numbers are controlled by the wardens to ensure that the market is not overcrowded.
Children are not allowed in this market, and please remember to dress appropriately too! Do not wear any fancy and expensive apparel and shoes here, as it is a wet fish market, which means the floors are constantly wet and you bump up against all sorts of people. Infact, you may want to wear shoes with good grip and traction to prevent slipping.
You are required to wear a face mask all the time when inside, as this is mandatory. You also have to wear a face mask anywhere in the perimeter of the market, immediately from when you alight from your car.
There's a pay and display car park at £2 for 2 hour's stay. However, you can also pay online or by using the Parkonomy App, which I have now downloaded on my phone. There are add on charges to using the online payment of around £0.40p, where as a pay and display is £2 flat charge. So you have the choice what option you want to use.
The fins of the fresh fish tends to perforate the bags you are served with so do remember to bring some additional black bags/newspapers to line up the boot of your car to stop any ingress of fluids from the fish and seafood into the lining of your boot.
If nothing at all, it is an amazing and historical market for all fish and seafood lovers.
Sadly this week, i noticed somensignage inside the market talking about plans to move Billingsgate Fish Market and relocate it to Dagenham. It would be a crying shame if they did, but I suppose the current site has some serious prime real estate value to it and will sell like hot cakes if it came onto the open market. Money talks £££££!! Big money talks!!
From discussions that I had with one of the fish vendors, I understand that the proposed move to the new location will be on the site of the now closed Ford factory in Dagenham. The vendor thought that if handled correctly by the Corporation of London, who own Billingsgate, that it would be a positive move for all.

I cannot recommend this place enough! True, you need to get there super early like 5am or 6am but the quality and variety of the fish and the seafood and the price .. insane! It's really good value for money and really good quality, you can get fresh pretty much anything you can think of from crabs and lobsters to salmon and squid ink. Anything! and the prices can be up to 50% less than in the grocery shops.
D. T.
Still a great place to find best fresh fish in london.
However during covid and today Saturday arround 6 am had to wait in a long queue, for more that an hour outside in the rain, to enter in the market.
Considering this would advice avoid Saturdays if possible, during the pandemic.
Really wonderful to have seen inside not crowded and finally payments by card are allowed and the only accepted payment method now.
Take care
N. Y.
It really good fish market need to go early at 4 am to get the best fish they do fresh and frozen
Y. R.
Lots of fresh seafood and fish Makes you want to buy more than you'd like but we've been in a long queue for over an hour to get in since 4:10 am. but it's worth it.

Came 4am on Saturday morning. Had to queue for 2h, luckily was not raining. Selection of fishes is amazing and cheaper than in local markets. I would advise to find out how to recorgnise fresh fishes, before coming as I couldnt see catch dates. Plus few places just defrozing fishes and selling. If first time here, before buying anything, do good checking for 20/30min. 2£ parking fee.
m. c.
It’s amazing, I’m so happy to go to this place.
B. C.
The fresh seafood is amazing. But the queues at the moment are pretty nuts due to social distancing. Hopefully things will get back to normal soon!
I. K.
Great place for fish lovers fresh and cheap
J. M.
You can get very FRESH & AFFORDABLE seafood here. You need to get here early, but totally worth it!
D. S.
Try and get there for around 4.00am with £2 in change. That's the downside over....
Brilliant market. My advice is to walk the four or five expansive aisles first, should take around 15 minutes to understand the choice and price structures available.
Being a typical londoner, I bag HUGE tiger prawns that are around 12 inches in length and are £24 a kilo. Big jumbo prawns at £10 a kilo. Giant tubs of Jellied eels at £20. Large dressed crabs at £5 each and a mixture of fresh cod and salmon. The prices are generally half the price of a high street supermarket but with a ridiculous amount of choice.
If you love your seafood and fish, this is undoubtedly the place to go.....its also an amazing experience and atmosphere.
M. C.
A British institution......a great place obviously to buy fish cheaply....bring some bin bags to carry your bounty to the car. During covid they require masks and still accept cash !!!...my advice is walk around at least once before buying as prices (and quality) vary throughout the market. Then go back and buy......no children are allowed and wear shoes you don't mind getting wet/covered in fishy run off !!!!!
T. V.
a lot of variety fresh, frozen and dry Seafood, very good prices, but due to Covid19, you have to make at least queue over 90 minutes, so take precaution when you go there, but don't rush, still have a lot of variety of seafood if you go around 6 - 7 am
s. b. (.
My first time there it was lovely shopping there.
S. O.
The que was crazy even after getting there at 3.18 am. However my NHS card saved the day. The sales and produce always exceptional, fresh neatly placed out and fun as always getting my fish from the source.
R. H.
Great fish market with prices unmatched in London. There is plenty of paid parking available for cars and Vans.
M. W.
It was a very good day to go although there was a queue everyone went in quickly. The market wasn't packed we were able to take several trips to the car. The staff is always helpful and friendly.
M. P.
I was surprised with the quality of fish in the market. Thats a huge market with variety of fishes. Highly recommended to buy fresh fishes. It's better to go early in the morning around 5-6am.
m. l.
This is the place for seafood lovers who like to cook their own food, especially if you are looking for Quantity for Price. Not a wide range but you can find good deals if u look around first and have an idea about the prices. The market is not big. of course, wild fish is more expensive than farmed, but how much u are willing to pay for wild? and lastly, u may buy a good looking and healthy fish but when u clean, u realise it is not :/ I think the main downside of the market is that cleaning fish service is not available like any other market in the world I've been to.
C. R.
Fresh Fish best prices in LONDON
R. L.
Great variety of selection of seafood, for both retailers & individual consumers except some wearing shirts & ties for trade only; prices went up after reopening, maybe not all stores open back up; some starts to pack up around 0745, be there early.
J. L.
Famcy and cheapest way to buy your seafood!
D. D.
If you love fish 🐟, you will love this place its a sight to Behold with lots of different stalls and people. Friendly greeting from the sellers. If fish your things you need to go there.
P. A. 0.
Still top of the line for the best value on fish
j. m.
Will get fresh fishes, sea fishes etc at reasonable prices.
Take £2 coins for parking ,or can do the parking fee online.
S. S.
Excellent place to buy seafood in very reasonable price. 10 mins walk from Canary Wharf station. Get there early as there's a loooooong queue!
From squid rings to baby sharks, you'll get everything in this one stop seafood market!
J.
People very friendly and reasonably priced. Today i was sold a box of not so fresh fish for the 1st time. We have been going for many years and this is the first time this has happened however does not put me off i will still go. Staff also in some stalls are very helpful they helped me load my car as my leg was bad today
N. K.
This is the ultimate place for fish and seafood lovers! You can find all sorts of fish, crabs, lobsters, prawns, oysters. You name it, they've got it.
The main advantage being the stock is fresh, and the price is very reasonable, compared to the marked up super market prices. You can even bargain with certain vendors and end up with an even better deal.
You are spoiled for choice here, and there are dozens of vendors all selling the stuff, so there's good competition amongst the vendors to attract customer.
You'll see small time chip shops to large restaurants lining up in the early morning with their vans to source the best seafood.
We've purchased fish and other seafood from this place a few times, and we've never been disappointed by the quality or price.
Coming to the downsides: You have to go very early in the morning (thing 5 AM) or else the stock is gone. The market gets quite messy and the floors get slippery as the trade goes on, so watch your step. Last but not the least, go in your old clothes. By the time you get home, both you and your car smell of fish!
N. C.
Great selection of sea food and fish fresh and frozen, buzzing Market, really worth it to wake up at 3 am. Recommended.
T. R.
Interesting done catch of the day part 2,which included a market tour, preparing fish, and cooking, all well instructed and very informative,it is well worth more than 5 stars.
B. j.
A great market where you can get fresh fish for reasonable price..
M. N. A. S.
It's better you check in just before 7pm.
Prices are expensive or not competitive during early hours. I normally shopping around weekends so no congestion charges to pay Tfl.
C. R.
So went there on a Friday morning but was very worried about the possibility of queues as I have read in reviews. I was pleasantly surprised that I qued for a totally of 5mins after arriving at 4. It was already open and had two entrances. Inside seemed fairly busy some wore masks but unfortunately some didn't.
Speaking to one for the traders today was busy day but before today its been quite because people are scared of the queues lol.
Very cold so come dressed warm!
I would suggest going but arriving at or after opening.
Good luck and my the odds be forever in your favour 👍🏾
R. J.
Quality at prices you cannot find anywhere else in London, possibly the UK. For the communities who know, need and value their fish diet, this place is essential. If you're new to the market, you can show up as late as 07:00am (!) and still get great value (without queuing - June 2020: social distancing means 45 minutes if you are there earlier).
I. A.
This was my second visit after 8 years approx. Due to covid 19, there was a long que, before opening time 4.am.
A lot of worldly fresh fishes are available here. You visit is guaranteed to make you satisfied.
M. L.
drove 50 miles come here at 5am, good and fresh sea foods, many people.
R. S.
10min walking from Canary Wharf station on the Jubilee Line. Best time between 6am to 8am. More a wholesale than a fish market. Too many frozen products and haven't seen caught fish so far in two Saturday morning I went, only farmed fish. Nevertheless you can get good prices and overall it's a nice experience, plus you get to prawns long aa your forearm and exotic fish species. What I bought: Salmon from farm 12.5£/kg, Shrimps 10£/kg, Clams 7.5£/kg, 2x Sea Bass farmed in Greece ~8£. Plus keep in mind that either you get a fillet or the whole fish in that case you will have to clean it yourself at home.
s. s.
Great fresh fishes in awesome prices as well as unmatched variety. By far the best place to buy fish and sea food in London
J. F. M. C.
Now located in the East End’s financial capital, Canary Wharf, Billingsgate is one of the capitals’ best known fresh produce markets and its oldest wholesale market. Held to be the leading inland fish market in the country, Billingsgate has a long history, dating back to the 1400s, if not further.
Historically, people couldn’t set up a market without a royal charter. Billingsgate got its official charter in 1400 from King Henry IV, however fish was probably informally traded in the area from as far back as the 9th century. The market didn’t originally specialise in selling fish. Like most markets at the time, it sold a range of produce and goods, including corn, salt, wine, fish, pottery, coal and iron.
In 1876, the Corporation of London introduced a bye-law within its market regulations that required all porters working at Billingsgate to be licensed. Only licensed porters were allowed to transport fish around the market, leaving traders reliant on their services. This trade was highly coveted for over 300 years and was often passed down from father to son – porters were paid by how much fish they delivered which made this a potentially lucrative job for a few hours of work a week.
Fav place in London.
A. S.
Excellent experience, some traders are rather arrogant!
F. D.
No place like this.....if you LOVE fish and can sacrifice the odd early start this then go to Billingsgate. You will not be disappointed. Great atmosphere and great prices. Worth the trip EVERY TIME.
M.
A wonderful array of seafood delights on offer. Go early so as not to miss out on scarier items (I missed out on razor clams). Great pricing, very helpful traders.
S. H.
Billingsgate fish market carries the largest selection of fish in this country. Every day there is always an enough supply of fresh fish and all seafood products directly from the coast. Lots to offer and lots to see. Different fish with different sizes and texture. If you are planning to come to this place, you need to wake up early and prepared to bring suitcase and back pack to make it easier to carry.
A. C.
This is not your average touristic market instead it is the place were restaurant owners and people who want proper fresh fish go. You have to get as early as possible even a few minutes before they open if you want to get the good stuff, sometimes even the first tube can get there a bit too late.
The biggest mistake you can make is to go to the market without wearing old shoes & clothes, the ground is full of water/ice & the smell will stick to your clothes for a while.
Finally, when you get in make sure you do a full circle of the place and keep your ears open for the offers.
G. Y.
Easy to find
Great fish
E.
It's a good fish market that you can find a big variety of fresh and frozen fishes, lobster, squids, crabs, octopus, baby sark..The market closes 8:30am but you need to go earlier. Some accept cards. The parking is 2£ for 2 hours.
M. M.
So much choice it really is wonderful and something to see. I recommend making sure that you are there for when it opens because if you get there at 6 instead of 4 half the stock may be gone. When driving make sure you have coins for getting a parking ticket, the queues for the Machine are quite long but necessary.
S. O.
Always fantastic get the best fish and service from my absolute favourites Fawsitts Fish where the lovely Paul and Lee will provide you with the best seabass, salmon, seabream mussels clams scallops...you name it they have got it and if they don't they will find it for you. If you haven't been to Billingsgate before you must start here for the best ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
P. A.
Nice place for affordable sorts of all fish 🐟
A. M.
Some of the guards and traffic enforcers are lack tactfulness.
The market itself is as lively as ever.
Too bad the queue is too long.
Good thing is NHS badge is still honored.
E. R.
I love getting fresh fish at billingsgate. Q's can be ridiculous at times and there is like three security guards for a Q of 300 people. Get that sorted and your definitely onto a winner going there...
N. K.
A great experience if you love seafood! You have to be careful about the products and really need to know how to look for fresh seafoods. There are a lot of good quality fish. It is a good idea to bring cash, some do accept cards.
F. W.
Got there early and bought everything on my shopping list.
R. S.
Very good place to get a variety of fish in bulk at a cheap price. Children are not allowed. It is open from 5 am and they close at 9 am on Saturday.
D. M.
Extremely busy for the Easter. However, the best place for fresh fish in the city. Not what it used to be, but it's great!
B. B.
I went to get my easter fish, the queue was long, but moved very quickly and orderly dispice the social distances, last year Easter I stand for 2&1/2hrs, never went back for the rest of the year, I normally visit there at 3 time for the year, glad it's not that bad today, fish prices very reasonable,as alway spoil for choice,
M. G.
A must if you're a seafood lover. Definitely come early, with a car and coolbox, and enjoy the sights/sounds/smells while you shop! You can't usually buy small quantities, so be prepared, but the value and the freshness is great.
S. T.
Security on our way in was so helpful and lovely, i was shoved by a man and he dealt with him. Very good Precautions are taken for COVID-19. When I got in i was able to shop quickly, the staff were friendly and prices are great
A. V.
It's a decent fish market but I was not overwhelmed with the experience. They could do some much more to make it an enjoyable experience. Instead it's like stepping back into the 1950's. The city of London is simply not using this valuable real estate to its highest potential. It's mainly just a big empty parking lot most of the time.
E. K.
Said to be the biggest fish market in UK. Go there very early in morning to get the best choice and prices. Need to buy big quantities which may not be suitable for everyone. Worth visiting once even as sightseeing!
S. K.
When you arrive at the market, you'll be amazed at the sights and sounds of real London. You can ask the fish sellers about their work - and you don't have to wait for hours to get a ticket!
M. A.
Only fish market near me and love it. Car Park could be free for at least 30 minutes which could be convenient for us.
R. D.
If you like fish you must go here. There is simply no choice. It might be an early morning start but it is totally worth it. Some of the deals I have here include: 100 oysters for £40, 3 huge crabs for £3, 4 huge lobsters for £20. There is such a lovely feeling to the place you will keep coming back for more.
Q. C.
Bottom line: Great place to get a bargain on seafoods. However, you need to know and be comfortable with that kind of fast-pace, minimal-service, fishy smelling market environment. Also, quality of the products varies from stall to stall so a bit shop around is a must if you want to get the best Billingsgate Market can offer.
A. O. A.
The queue is becoming too much and the telephone payment for parking is a nightmare
B. “. A.
If you love fish then you have to visit Billingsgate. You get value for money on fishes you know and do not know. Lobster, Salmon, Mackerel, Snapper, Salt fish, Squid....you name it and Billingsgate has it. Reach early to avoid disappointment, Billingsgate is well worth the early morning trip!
G. W.
Great place to buy fish. We go on a Saturday morning and aim to get there at 5am because that's when they start taking money. Live crab, lobster and scallops aplenty and less than half the price you would pay at the local fish shop. A wide range of fish, some local others flown in from all over the world. We sometimes buy the frozen scallops. They are twice the size of the biggest you will see in the supermarket. What would we do without the place.
L. S.
Great place, I go occasionally with a group of uni friends. Huge array of fish, friendly salespeople and great value. There's a greasy spoon attached which does the standard fare with a fish twist. Their bacon and scallop rolls are great!
M. C.
Worth the early morning start! Carries every fish and seafood you'd want including bags of mixed seafood used in oriental cuisine.
Also boxes of prepared seafood such as lightly battered butterfly prawns, battered scampi etc. Check out "Sea Hawk"; they sell small and large octopus as well as lobster tails and a variety of frozen seafoods...
Also great quality dead and live lobster. Look around for a bargain and don't be afraid to haggle a little...
Parking is strictly £2 for 2 hours.
l. H.
The queue is crazy long. The earlier you get there to line up, the more choices of fish you get. When you get there after 5am most of the good fish has gone already.
E. G.
Hugo variety of seafood in general, amazing value for money, much fresher and cheaper than any supermarket
K. D.
Got some large size fish for a nice price. Billingsgate never disappoint, but could do with free parking
P. Y.
Great place to visit for fresh, value-for-money seafood in London. Make sure to go quite early because a lot of good stuff will be gone if you go late. Parking is £2 for up to 2 hours so it's not expensive at all. We got lobsters, scallops, tiger prawns, squids, and Dover sole all for under £60! Great place to get seafood for dinner parties.
P.
Good place to visit and a great selection of seafood items. Some prices the same like in a shop so you really need to look around for a bargain.
K. A.
Fresh Seafood for great prices. Vast selection of seafood available. Have to get there 4am to avoid any waiting time due to Covid-19.
E. K.
Best place in london to get your fish. Or shrimp. Or lobster... Choice is great, prices are low, and only drawback it's real early morning market. No point to come after 8 am and for best results come before 6 am. And don't forget cash!
A. M.
If you want some good fresh fish, there is just one place where you need to come: at the source where all fish mongers buy it from.
Not only you can get as much more choice than in any other place, but the prices are so proportionate to daily cost of living that it's really worth the travel and the fact you need to be here no later than five a.m. if you want to find something.
C. D.
I love Billingsgate and an NHS Keyworker appreciate being able to have priority entrance as had to go straight to work after I put my fish away..... big variety of fish....
E. B.
Billingsgate has got an incredible selection of fish and seafood, fresh and frozen. Staffed by a mixture of cheery but very busy men in wellies this place is one of those London places you should visit once, or at least if you like fish and seafood. Note that there is a minimum age of 12 to enter the market area, this is likely because there is a lot of commotion and things being moved around inside.
S. N.
Great place to shop cheap sea foods.
J. P.
Well worth the effort to wake up at 5am as you will find some fine seafood that you did not expect in London. I challenge you to find percebes there. That's the starter. Squid or crab would go well for the main. The guys selling the fish are also worth to see - not the regular supermarket staff. And be ready to smell like a fish once back home!
H. J. S.
Getting up at 5:30am on a Saturday to cycle to a fish market might not sounds like the perfect way to spend a day with your loved one but a trip to Billingsgate is a must if you want to experience London's market scene at its best.
There is a huge selection of fish and shellfish on sale, all fresh and ready to be served in restaurants across the city but anyone is allowed to visit. Have a good look around before choosing your purchases. We opted for a whole salmon (£10) and 3 whole seabass (£10) but this would be a good place to visit in the summer if you want to buy fish in bulk for a barbecue!
Be prepared to descale and gut the fish when you get home - many videos on YouTube will show you how.
Couple of points on attire - it's not too cold but it is a bit damp and smells of fish, obviously. Wear good non slip footwear with no open toes.
D. M.
Had to wait in a long queue. Delicious, fresh fish.
D. H.
A proper old school trade market, but open to the public if you are an early riser. If it ain't there, it's probably not available.
C. J.
During covid-19 it's a big queue, but it's worth to lose that time to get fresh fish or something else!
I like this market! Good prices!
A. J.
I go to billingsgate one a month and am usually satisfied with the freshness of the fish and shellfish there. However, be VERY CAREFUL with the shop run by an Indian guy at the end of the row when you walk into the market (when you go straight from the entrance without turning. They sell pretty everything)! I bought 1kg of crab there yesterday and realised at home they are not fesh at all and not eatable, with horrible smell. I threw them all away and would NEVER EVER buy anything from this Indian seller! Good luck!
T. S.
Since it's only a 20 minute bike ride to get here I usually visit every 2 or 3 weeks.
What I am normally looking for is usually in plentiful supply and so if I arrive between 05:45 and 06:15 I don't have any problems finding salmon for cooking or smoking (A. H. Cox), large frozen uncooked prawns in their shells (Holmes or Seahawk), frozen New Zealand green-lipped mussels (Holmes) samphire or tuna for cooking. If I am looking for tuna and salmon for making sushi then it is best to come earlier and visit J. Bennett, they seem to be only seller that reliably has sushi grade fish.
I will on occasion pick up other fish that catch my eye, but it is always advisable to check their eyes, gills and smell them.
Remember this is not strictly speaking a retail outlet, so don't be surprised to find that sometimes it is only possible to buy what you are interested in by the box. Also don't be surprised if the fish you buy need to be filleted or gutted and filleted, although salmon is usually sold gutted and you can easily find fillets or salmon and cod.
Buying fish from Billingsgate offers substantial savings over high street retailers. Yesterday I picked up 2.49kg of yellowfin tuna loin for cooking from J. Bennett for £34.00 - for comparison at Sainsburys tuna steaks cost £27.08/kg.
S.
The best seafood market in London
T. V.
5 am in the morning is the best time to buy fish. Less que, and good stuff.
M. M.
Excellent products, if you're in to fresh seafood, at very good prices. Due to Covid there is a strict policy regarding face masks. Be prepared to queue.
J. D.
Fresh seafood and lovely selection. Make sure to come very very early in the morning (around 6-7am). Be careful when ordering oysters as we got very bad oysters. When we opened the oysters they were green and tasted horrid.
H. R.
great place for fish lover. fresh and frozen fish and sea foods. I just went to see but spent almost all money I had, but enjoy a lot. crab, crayfish, lobsters, prawns, octopus, sea beam, mussels and lots others fresh, frozen and dry fish.
f. k.
Polite and charming men and women serve you the freshest fish and seafood. You must get there early morning for the best produce. Not open on Mondays !!!!!! wear waterproof shoes as the floor is wet. Nice cup of tea and a wonderful breakfast in one of the two cafes and you're set for the day. Lovely experience always
T. T.
Been this morning and got 7 kilos of salmon fillet for 30 quid but sometimes you can get even better deals. The parking might be a problem. Try to get there early in the morning - 5.50 -6.00 am is OK. Be prepared to buy in bulk for cheaper prices. Will go again!
J. A.
I’m in love with this place quality fish ....
E. I.
Fish price going up day by day.... Arrive as early to get fresh fish. Parking facility is excellent £2 only.
S. B.
Love the buzz and friendly atmosphere! Its work and all the venders are helpful and happy to help with questions. Worth a visit if you want good deals with extremely fresh fish and seafood.
R.
Known as the biggest fish market not only in London. As far as I know, best prices and deals are being offered early in the morning. Worth visiting for all kinds of seafood!
A. O.
If you are looking to buy a good quantity of fish at a decent price this is the place for you, provided you like early morning starts. Be here early and possibly carry your own plastic bags.
s. 9.
If you love fish do go there instead of the fishmonger. Works so much cheaper. Be prepared to queue though!
J. A.
Great place to buy the freshest of fish. Unfortunately, it looks like Brexit may temporarily impact the usual variety of available fish.
M. W.
Love shopping there for fresh sea food, but all stalls were had completely sold out of product I wanted, and I was very disappointed.
E. J.
For frozen and fresh sea products it's the best place to buy, lots cheaper than local shops and supermarkets
Y. P. F.
The freshest quality seafood produce in London at very reasonable wholesale prices. Wide variety of every imaginable type of seafood you can think of. Open to retail customers as well, although often you have to buy a whole box of prawns or fish etc. Conveniently located near Canary Wharf tube station. Open from 5am but be sure to be there before 8am.
G. L.
The people here were so friendly and provided great customer service. Thank you 😊
P. A.
Very large seafood market opens at 4am closes 8.30am.
G. b.
It was amazing!!! U hv to b there at least by 6.30am.... I usually go on a Saturday, bought a box of sea bass £30 for 9 bass it was fresh! sea bream £10 a box u get 5 in it, there r other fishes too like salmon £10 to £25, crab claws £5 a kilo u get 5 claws, clams for £10 a bag 3 kgs, tuna £10 per fish all tho, lobsters £25 for 2, prawns & crabs from the Asian shop beware he mixes bad fish with fresh ones, I bought pomfret and mackerel and was annoyed wen I reached home as there wer rotten ones mixed plus it wasn't cheap £18 for 5 small promfret 2 wer bad, 3 mackerel 1 was bad😡.. Buy that's on display, & 18 for 2 kg prawns I know it's expensive but it's fresh! £16 for 2 kgs of Indian blue crab... I didn't think it was cheap but cheaper then buying from a super market... Even if u don't buy fish just go there to see the market, remember to take change with u as u need £2 for parking, there is a cafe in the market if u r hungry not too impressed with it, u also hv drive in Mac Donald as u r coming out... Over all experience was amazinggggg!!!!
G. A.
Fresh seafood at very good prices. Look around to find good deals. Great variety of seafood, although I'm not quite sure how I feel about the sharks.
X. F.
Recently there been news in Goa, India in regards to high amount of Formaldehyde (formalin) found in fish sold for human consumption. This chemical is used to keep fish fresh and prevent from rotting. Most of the fish imported from Indian seas into UK comes from this region. In recent years there has been rise in cancer cases in this region as formaldehyde is unsafe for human consumption. I understand fish is tested in UK ports. But is fish tested further in this market at the point of sale for any possible chemicals used? Is there such testing in this market? This is to ensure imported fish is natural.
瑞.
One of my most fav places in LND
C. O.
Long queue ever to get a fish in billingsgate 1:45 mins 20 to shop.is that the fish just easter crazy shopping. Is a place to be anyway
J. B.
Right, with my surprise I was shocked and amazed by how long i was queuing for. 1h35 before i got in. It was not as busy as i thought. Very few people are allowed and distance measures are observed. I picked up my usuals and then went. It enjoying seen the difference. It's unfortunate i did not take any photos
K. R.
Been going to Billy since I was kid with me family, I've got say 'that I have seen, comments to effect that there's a lot of frozen(iqf)for sale'
Well yes there is some, but when it's come in from abroad it's going to be the case. Otherwise it's gonna rot on the way. And to say there's no card machines locally. All you've got to is pop in into Popluar high st. And remember Billingsgate is for trade first, so get down there early and your get parked and enjoy the experience.
T. A.
My first experience in such a place, it's exploring.
R. B.
Great. Fish of all sorts for great prices. Will be back.
R. F.
The Billingsgate Markets offers a wide array of fresh fish.
T. T.
It’s a great place would recommend
N. d.
Make sure you have plenty of room in the freezer you gonna want to buy loads wide selection of fresh and frozen fish and seafood. Don't forget to bring change for the carpark
M. H.
Cold, wet and windy day, however the wonder that was an East End historical market is changing fast. Still good fish all round - try the plaice
J. K.
The busiest i have ever seen it in 5 years. But Brilliant.
E. R.
I love getting fresh fish at billingsgate. Q's can be ridiculous at times and there is like three security guards for a Q of 300 people. Get that sorted and your definitely onto a winner going there...
D. T.
Still a great place to find best fresh fish in london.
However during covid and today Saturday arround 6 am had to wait in a long queue, for more that an hour outside in the rain, to enter in the market. …
J. V.
Very nice service and fish available
B. M.
Very organized even though I had to que. Fish suppliers where very friendly.
h. k.
It was good but it was not busy and everything price was so cheap
J.
Love going here to buy lovely fresh fish.
R. L.
Great variety of selection of seafood, for both retailers & individual consumers except some wearing shirts & ties for trade only; prices went up after reopening, maybe not all stores open back up; some starts to pack up around 0745, be there early.
R. P.
Great experience, had to queue a bit but not too long.
All visitors had masks, and controlled entry in small groups so it didn't get too busy
J. C.
Early bird gets the good deals. Fun experience and nice fresh seafood. However we got bargain calamari and it certainly tasted like cheap calamari
T. K.
Splendid. Fresh fish for early bird. Best, start shoping by 4.30 am.
P. J.
I hadn't been there since I was a kid with my Dad, so took my son there a couple years ago & bought 2 stone of North Sea Crab. Good value.
The parking though is a nightmare!
J. A. R.
Fresh and cheap, but beware of the parasites. Most of the fish I have bought in this market are infected with live worms (anisakis).
G. W.
Fantastic market to visit.

Fresh fish and seafood :)
L. K.
I loved my experience at the market, we were here at 5.30am and got 12 seabass for £12! It's not as gross as people describe it, I'll defo be back!

One of my favourite places as a chef in London
J. G.
its a fish market and can not make review of every single supplier. some of them however, are using vacums to increase weight with water (thats rude). there are few who dont process food
M. J.
Some good deals to be had around eight as it gets to the end of the market time. Watch out for the car parking. The machines do not take the new pound coins.
R. Z.
Brilliant place to fill up your fridge.
I. D. P.
It is a good place where you can find a big variety of fish. Also you can find good deals, better then any superstore

The best fish market i ever been into

Great selection of fresh fish
A. T.
Ah, a fish market.. images of wooden boats landing with burly, barrel-chested, pipe-chomping, sailors throwing sacks of fresh fish onto the docks for the men inside with flashing knives to clean, gut and and help you pack it into coolboxes for transport home. Ahh.. the romance..
Ahh.. the unreality. None of that applies to any _real_ fish market, let alone Billingsgate, so if the above is what you're after - you may want to head to Cornwall where you can intercept boats as they land.
If you head to Billingsgate, what you WILL get is a large warehouse, packed with scads of people walking around staring at fresh and frozen fish, prawns, live crab, marron, and shark, packed into styrofoam boxes with ice. There'll be a general slickness underfoot as the water drains from melting ice into channels carrying off water, and you'll be cheek to jowl with many others looking for fresh fish.. this means that you MUST be early - we got there at 5:30 (an hour and a half after opening) and we were still getting good stuff, but it was clear that the very best fish had been taken already, and we were left with merely excellent fish, rather than amazing fish.
Things to be aware of:
* a lot of sellers would much prefer you having cash, to the point of NOT having card machines. The nearest ATM is at the McDonald's near the entrance gates.
* you get fish, fish, and nothing BUT fish. Bring your own coolboxes (well, you can get a styrofoam box if you buy fish by the box, and if you ask nicely they can give you a spare box. Maybe) and chilling gear for the fish. You will have to gut, scale, etc etc it yourself
* be early.
* a lot of purchasers will be commercial, and a lot of sellers will be used to that, so if you ask to buy one fish, make sure they understand, and don't accidentally think you mean 'one box of fish'
* you get your fish in plastic (bin) bags. It's really stylish.
* there's a knockabout cafe in there, so coffee is available at all hours.. coffee!
* wear closed shoes.. thongs aren't really a good idea in a fish market zone.

Nice place. Cheap fresh fish!!!!
T. A.
It was a good atmosphere, clean and fish at affordable price. Parking is easy and always space for everyone
M. B.
This market is where they sell fishes. I went there and i see where they start to charge for parking. I went to get some change to pay for my parking. when i came back i buy a ticket and put on my car. A month later they send me parking fine, say i refused to pay my parking. in the first place i did not get a ticket. this find was dubble. i write to them explain to them what happen that day and told them that i did pay for parking on that day. they drop the price from about £70 to about £35. my Husband could not take the problem so he paid the money. This was a horrible experince.

Would have given 5* if there were more entrances or if it was more accessible from the DLR... that is not the case. If you arrive from DLR station prepare for a long walk. Do not get off at Poplar! Take Blackwall, then you have to walk less and more straight into the entrance. There is only one entrance...which is the main gate. Bad. I mean is it really necessary to implement such a strict access control to protect fish? Also selection is not to my liking or not very impressive...crabs, prawns, fish include: salmon, sea breams and seabass, haddock, tilapia, pangasius, haddock, snapper, red fish, carp, hake fish and cod, also mullet fish and tuna. What is more special:shark steaks at one merchant and mahi mahi at another one. Unfortunately the artcic charr I was looking for is not available. Also very important:they start to pack away at 7, so get there before.
R. B.
Large slice of London history in there.
Am going to get up really early to go down there to get me a fish bargain.
Even mid morning the smell and everything about the market exudes the London I know and love
N. Å.
An enormous selection of fresh fish (five stars). You need coins to park (one star).
E. S.
Good selection of fish and very friendly fishmongers
Keep up the good work
O. O.
Its ok but you have to keep a look out for dishonest seller. One seller in particular, selling dead lobsters and removing one claw each from the live ones
Y. C.
Great market with fresh and good quality fish at cheap prices. Have to be there early but it's totally worth it.
D. J.
The market is still open but be aware queues can reach 2 hours so come very early to avoid a long wait.

An amazing place, can't believe it doesn't smell of fish, tells you a lot about the place and what it sells, fresh fish does not smell so what your getting is really fresh
If I could of given 10 stars I would of for cleanliness, the only downside is opening hours, if you have children it's hard work but if you can get to this place then you need to experience it

Lucky for Tak Cheung who has seen the best overseas where I have never been myself although I'm Asian too, however I've been once before and enjoyed the variety of it all, but will take Tak's advice on slimier fish with clear eyes and red gills, thank you Tak, yes going at the end of it you do get some great offers as someone else has pointed out...i took the car before but i will use Poplar to stop by the market this time as you must remember to take loose change
