Reviews of Ridley Road Market
C.
A very nice open market and the range of foods is amazing.
Can still pick up bargains and it has a great atmosphere, love to walk around and savour the hussle and bustle of this market.
Everyone friendly and you can always haggle a bargain.
Would absolutely recommend you go and have a look for yourself.👍
The only criticism is sometimes it can be extremely busy.
C. W.
Interesting array of produces for all walks of life.
R. A.
Still great value, fresh and unwrapped plus supporting a small local business. Stall holders give out too many plastic bags though, so take your own bags to limit plastic pollution. We all have our reasons for how we shop: local, organic, price, air miles. This market fulfills some of these criteria and it does offer ingredients for making international dishes.

Ridley Road Market was very cold.
There was not many people or stalls there. We could wait to get back home, hopefully the weather would be better next time.
M. G.
A fantastic experience. The market is situated along a very busy main Rd, but you won't notice because of the general hustle and bustle of the market. It wasn't too crowded. Although it's outdoors many people still wore masks. If you're looking for speciality foods from around the world then definitely give this market a try. There is an array of stalls with gorgeous fresh produce, from Strawberries to giant Avocados, all extremely affordable. You can buy different varieties of sweet potato, with fresh yams and plantain. There are many butchers and fish mongers selling fresh fish and meats. Authentic street food is available if you want to give it a try. The market itself is not too long, there are independent stores along the length of the market. Currently there are barriers in place separating the main market from the small stores. You'll be spoilt for choice visiting Ridley Rd market, especially if you are looking for specialty foods. The stall holders are funny, happy and welcoming. Most of the traders here only take cash, so be prepared for this. Excellent bus and train links.
P. W.
What you would expect from a market place. Fruit and vegetables and a good price. Food stalls ranging from Caribbean, Mexican and some times Turkish depending on what day you go. There are also electric items like speakers, phone chargers etc and last but not least clothes that you would expect to be in a market place
m. G.
Do not buy electronics, do not buy clothes, the food is great, very convenient fruit and veggie. Problem for me, maybe not for others, is the lack of education of customers when they push you in order to take your place in line, very u polite public.
The little téléphone shops are all scams, overpriced not track able phones with doubtful origins, already used sim card... Avoid.

This Market has been an important part of London for at least 140 years as they say it Opened in the 1880's but it's a Street so...but it's Only been "The Colourful" Market it is Now for 40 or so years as in the 1980's it Didn't resemble what it is Now...
If You want to see a Market thats traditionally British Let alone a Traditional London.Market with Londoners running stalls selling to some Cockney Geezer are Long Gone...
As are the Pubs & a lot of other things that gave these areas its character...
Could be anywhere Now...
De-Anglerfied...
Shame...Really is but everywhere is like it in London now except very expensive enclaves where the Rich, Radicals & Politicians Live..
Everywhere else has been Abandoned..
Who wants to pay a £Million for a Two up two down Terraced House in Leyton & Keep getting Mugged if you venture out of your house before you get in your Car?
B. A.
This market is filled with fresh food items from Africa, fresh fruit at it cheapest price and lovely African sellers ready to chat and make you laugh when you patronize them
S. H.
I regularly go to Ridley Road Market to get African food products. It has an assortment of halal butchers, fishmongers and African and Caribbean food products on sale. Afro hair shops are also present. Ridley Market is a vital place for the local community and a lot of people come from far and wide to shop there.
p. a.
Great place with a buzzing atmosphere and vibrant culture and a mixture of shops selling everything you need a fantastic place to go
M. C.
Ridley Road has been there for as long as I can remember but it's much smaller now which is a real shame. I understand there is a fight to keep it as it is. I will keep going back. Bought a load of cds from one of the stalls and really happy with the content.
Its not all about fancy malls and brand shops.
M. K.
The new food menu (Asian) was literally the most delicious thing I've had in ages. They're really unusual giant pancake type things - I've never had anything like it! Great addition to such a nice bar.
K.
I love my local market but it really needs a good clean. The stench from the meat vendors is unbearable. 🤢 But there is a variety of vendors with good fruit and veg so I grin and bear it. Thank god for masks! 😬😷
K. A.
very good place for shopping eating and visiting a lot of shops and lot of stall in the market african fashion clothes and food near station kingsland station and dolston monday to Saturday 6 days open Sunday off busy day is Friday and Saturday
I. D. m. i. E.
Changing, and going in to a new chapter, since 1880, the starting place for some big brand names eg, tesco ///foods, fruits, fish and many more over 150 stalls and units, plus after hour , Theatre and night club wine bar and a few shops witch open late night shopping record shop gift shop hardware shop fabric, next door to Kingsland indoor market witness it own top brand shops, both with 3-4-5 star rating for places to eat the ratings more to do with, access to toilets, seating when crowd ed, and long queues, so staff can not coup. Plan your day well, or your evening as well and you have a great time.5 star plus best times Thu today, firday, Saturday, sunday.peck 4-9/10.
T.
Great market ran by experienced fruit sellers providing great value for money fruit and vegetables.
J. B.
Holding out against gentrification.Multi-ethnic with a wide variety of fruit and veg, fish. Some good Caribbean cuisine and I had an excellent Turkish dish which was basically freshly prepared bread with spinach seasoned with spices I’ve never tasted before. The dish starts with a G but sorry can’t remember what it was called! Beats a three star Michelin restaurant! My favourite London market. Some barrowboys still there who grew up probably knowing Alan Sugar. Let’s hope this bit of London never changes
C. N.
Authenticity disappearing 😕 I grew up here. Lots of changes; some good; but the market is dying in my opinion 😪😔
A. K.
Good market for many essentials for House holds, but please expect meat market stores
D. A.
Very good place to shop for all the Caribbean and African food
A. E.
Good authentic market for the locals. Also, due to the variety of items availabilities, people come from all parts of London.
k. l.
Great mix of cultures and grocery stores. Real community feel Jamaican Arab Caribbean African
B. I.
Been shopping there for 7 years. Really like it. Nice fresh fruit and veg. Fresh meat.
G. N.
U get whatever u want to buy in a friendly way
Nice market
F. G.
Friendly market traders , incedibly cheap but good quality fruit and veg. My favourite fruit stall is the first on the left as you enter from Dalston Junction Station and my favourite veg is opposite Paks cosmetics also on the left. Walk all the way down to reach the excellent Turkish Food Company. There are also fantastic thai and vietnamese food wagons on various days.
b. s.
I love this place. big smiles, big hellos and the laughter, along with the food and clothes...it reminds me of home
S. N.
I went to Ridley Market to buy African staple. There are inky about 3 stores that have a wide and varied supply so the options are limited but they are there nonetheless: anything from cassave, to dried fish, bitter and cassa leaves.
S. D.
All kinds of different things are being sold there from like meat, fish, fruits, vegetables, clothes, utensils ,bedding, linen, bedsheets, curtains, foodstuffs, alcohol, soft drinks and anything you need that's de place to go
C. A.
It is very crowded and busy. I don't like it much but understand why some people visit to get certain things from ethnic foods, clothing, butcher, hair products, salons and other items. It needs to be more organised and clean. During the covid 19 lockdown, there was much neatness, less crowding and better management. You get to see all kinds of people from all race shopping, pushing in some cases, rude and in a hurry. It is still a place to visit for places like M&S, Sainsbury's, Poundland, Cafes, Restaurants, local discount stores and new shops too such as Chip place, Beauty salons, easy station and buses accessibility, Library, Co-op and those unique stores as well including Barbershop. Lots of diversity of people, places, vehicles, shops, unusual and usual things too. There are new buildings that makes the place more attractive and different with new people moving into the area. The area is being developed in a productive way and hope for the better.
j. C.
Not too bad, All fruit and veg stalls sell the same, not to crowded.
Very cheap ,wide selection fruit etc .fish stall is there as well.
I. H.
This market is one of a kind. You won't find anything like it in any other place in London. It feels like you are travelling abroad for an exotic country.
You will find here fresh fruits and vegetables along with great food and condiments from all around the world.
I will recommend you all to visit Ararat Bread as it's one of the best in Hackney.
Definitely a must visit if you are in Dalston
A. I.
Anything you want to buy from Africa like all Africans countries produce and products l and Pakistan Halal meat and poultry, Nigerian food and Textiles.
F. B.
The indoor Market features varieties from different parts of the World. Don't expect what you will normally experience at Borough Marker.
T. W.
It is a beautiful place for you to get your fresh fruits, veg, fish, meat.even my native food etc.Ridley Road Market is unique, I love visiting it, it reminds me of my route.
O. O.
Good place to get home grown Caribbean fruits and veg. Love the material shop if you make clothes it's a amazing place in all. Big up paks lol
T. W.
The best traditional street market in London! I may be biased though - I live here!
F. O.
I always buy my Nigerian stuff and my fresh fish from the fish market
J. J.
Decently arranged goods and materials with moderate prices.
V. M.
Every kind of fruit and good prices

It's one of the best place in Hackney to be it has a wide range off multicultural diversity in East London very lively at night with clubs and bars and plenty of restaurants to choose from definitely one place you can never be bored

It use to be one the best market around but not any more. You can still picked few little things what you can't get in a regular shops around.
C. C.
Great place for fruits, including exotic ones like lychees. I came here almost every day when I was living around the area.
B. F.
Changed alot to its hey day. But still offers far better produce. Once inferior to neighbours walthamstow market. Now far out doing waltham forest Market (high st) due to poor management of waltham forest Council.
C. T.
Nice fresh vegetables of your dream taste. Variety of beef.chicken smoked name it.
The local authority have put in strict covid control guidelines for public safety. Prices within your budget even to save a few pounds..👍👍
G. M.
Ridley road market is brilliant, it needs to stay open supplying the locals in the area with an eclectic mix of things. There is a little burger van on this road, the burgers are awesome the young lady serving has great customer service, being friendly and cooking the burgers to perfection, get one when your strolling through.
J. B.

H. M.
Located in the heart of Dalston, Ridley road market is one of the best places for African products. The atmosphere is really warm, vibrant, energetic with Reggae music. It's open from Monday to Saturday. Prices are very competitive specially on fresh food. Huge public transportation available. located opposite to Dalston kingsland train station.
V. S.
Still one of my fave spots.
K. M.
You can get fairly cheap clothes and food there
T. F.
You district local open air market, fresh produce and meats/poultry and seafood. Check freshness though.
K. S.
It's a great metropolitan market. Some of the traders are getting old 👴, new traders are coming in. It's lovely varbiration. I love ridley Road
A.
Dirty, overcrowded smell is horrendous. Would not recommend
O.
Visit there twice a month, still my favourite market
K. M.

D. M.
Strongly recommend the Jamaican supermarket at the far end of the market (not the Kingsland Rd end).
S. R.
Always worth a visit. Like a bit of Morocco/Africa transplanted to London.
N.
Love this place so much history
J. F.
Always a pleasure to visit Ridley Road Market. Very quiet during the present restrictions, but plenty of life's essentials.
K.
The market is a shadow of itself with this COVID virus going around. But it remains a good place to get ethic food. I love the market. It reminds me of my childhood
J. S.
Very traditional market, selling all kinds of fresh vegetables & fruits. Also has meat shops & fish stalls. You can pick up some good bargains on the clothing stalls & reasonable price on the essential household cleaning products.
There is a huge hair product shop in this market, which sells everything you need for your hair e.g. dyes, wigs, creams, relaxers, straighteners & loads more
E. O. A.
Very good for stocking up on African foods & groceries +knick knacks for the home etc
C. K.
Fresh and cheap veggies and fruit and loads of clothes, textiles etc
C. C.
You get here on buses 276 from Stratford and 488. They have good clothes at an affordable prices . They do both retail and wholesale. Sometimes they sale branded clothes also but the tags won't be on it . I don't know why
m. k.
The hygiene for meats at some butchers are still a concern.
Fresh fruits and vegetables are fine
s. g.
I only go here to save money rather than enjoying the atmosphere. Just made my annual trip to buy masses of cheap berries for jam making, well more like healthy low calorie 100% fruit raw puree thickened with chia seeds and sweetened with stevia, kept in freezer, all for the much cheaper cost of 50p per large jar.
Generally good for fruit and veg, otherwise strong fish smell and even if I was still eating meat, I wouldn't buy it here, not sure about the fish.
Also stalls and shops selling tat, gadgets, pots and pans, jewellery, clothing, Turkish carpets etc.
Council wants to clean it up and improve tatty shops but the stall holders worry about price increases and loss of ramshackle ethnic feel of the market.
Is next to Dalston shopping centre so handy for Sainsburys etc. plus all the shops on Kingsland Rd.
Opposite Kingsland Rd overground station which crazily had no lift so difficult getting heavy shopping down the stairs, not exactly an asset to the shopping area. Lots of busses.
A. L. M.
Lots of fruit and veg stalls a fish market and a Turkish food shopping centre. Good prices. The market has a wide range of world foods. There are clothes and bric-a-brac stools. Make sure your handbag is over your shoulder and infront of you beware of pick pockets and handbag theives
T. J. S.
Best real market in London. Fruit and veg unbeatable. Great falafel at the Kingsland road end, great patties and jerk at the other end. Great Ghanaian shop and Ararat bread is amazing, 3 for a pound.
D. M.
Strongly recommend the Jamaican supermarket at the far end of the market (not the Kingsland Rd end).
I. L.
Good old Ridley Road Market, lots of stalls have closed but still the same to me. Love shopping there 😁
M. s.
Fabulous market ! Wide range of fruit and veg and fish. Lovely colourful African clothing. Nice vendors. Definitely recommended. Also has shopping centre adjacent.
M. E.
If your looking for quality fresh fruit and veg at reasonable and cheaper prices than the supermarkets then Ridley Road market is for you with its extensive range of produces it caters to its diverse cultural community. Also stalls selling clothes, herbal remedies, fabrics, bags food etc. Very lively bustling market place with great transport links
y. o.
A very nice place to buy the food stuff which are ok in pricing. The butchers shops are clean and accessible .
A. F.
Such characters all round—patrons and the vendors alike. Don't expect a huge variety of stalls (most of which are run by one burly unfriendly chap who yells at his tenants for not treating the customers worse, yes) but it has what you need at decent prices. Go mostly for the interesting people to watch!
n. n.
Integral quality and good prices
M. W.
A real colourful market .
a. g.
It a nice place to shop..good price, parking g is reasonable compare to others place. They don hv parking , but u can park close to the market and pay 2.60 per hour.
N. R.
African/Caribbean food, clothes and accessory galore.
F. M.
Tried some new delicious fruit that isn't available in the supermarkets.
m. l.
For a real London market experience...GO.... although it is in London, stuff from all over the world is sold there...pigs ears, feet, pork belly...a vegan paradise ( not) although they would and could be catered for. No organic stuff but 2 avo's for a £ and tasty too, yes please. Even if buying naught do go, if only to stimulate one's senses, good or bad!
B. C.
Amazing cheap fresh fruit and vegetables. Also spices, herbs, Caribbean cuisine cooking ingredients. You can buy most things at this market is also very friendly and great fun.
S. A.
Great market where food can be bought at affordable prices!
P. F.
Lovely place for fresh fruit and veg. Lots of fabric stalls west indian bakers and a place where make fresh flat breads on site. Its a real community
P. J.
I felt like I was back in the 80s in a proper London market. This place is as real as you can hope to find in all the fake corporate planned London we are now being subsumed by. Yeah it's cheap and dirty and rough, but it's working class London that the suits haven't planned out in advance. It won't last, sadly, so make sure you pop down while you still can and experience a London that won't be around much longer
E.
Has everything you could possibly need, especially the unidentified fish which is delicious. Deserves to be protected and guarded from gentrification at all costs.
i. N.
Good market to get fresh produce. From fruits and vegetables to clothes.
E. S.
Well resourced with variety of foods for multicultural community. Good and friendly traders the value customer.
S. M.
You can get everthing you need here from a customized dress to a designer belt and shoes to match or that special food from your home town you have been longing yo eat again. With Ridley road shopping village you can please the whole family from the youngest to the oldest, i recommend you come and shop for yourself to experience what i did or more
k. s.
very nice 👌 place to get everything furit vegetables meet fish Household items and clothes fashion mans woman special for African clothing and food
L. N.
My husband first time in a pound shop he loved it plenty of bargain's to be had
U. E.
Great place for buying food from all cultures. I am Nigerian and I can say, you can get almost any food you'll find in Nigeria in this market, from garri, pounded yam, egusi, ogbono, dry fish, iru and even cassava fufu! Not always as fresh as in Nigeria (unless its garri), but it's still pretty good. Also a great place to get fruit, veg, meat, fish etc. It has it all. Hopefully this market remains as Dalston develops.
E. C.
A lot less stalls then say ten twenty years ago. Use to have lot more on offer. Some stall holders try to ramp up prices so haggling is a must
Q. C.
Love the authentic food.... Good vibes
K. A.
Lovely market with fresh produce and great stalls
L. K.
Real piece of history to Hackney and London has unfortunately slipped over the past few years with people shopping online and in supermarkets let's get back down the market
M. O.
It was nice but looks empty than before the covid 9
X. Y. (.
It's more people around without mask.
A. R.
Good market especially for African food stuffs.
S. T.
Dalston market is the highlight of a thriving Dalston day. Open from 9 to 5pm, the market sellers bustle while the Dalstonites push there way through to get to the produce. It's very busy during a lunch of Saturday, so I'd recommend getting there earlier for the fresh produce at very reasonable prices. The products range from fresh fruit and veg, to clothes and jewellery too.
S. _.
Local east London market, home for mostly afro Caribbean imported food stuff and other general market sellables
R. U.
Is a nice place to visit
A. O.
It's an open market with variety food items from different parts of the world.
s. b.
The best market in London and the only market where you can get premature baby clothes and accessories at decent prices and not get ripped off. Ask for Nadiah from Premfit to see their stall
J. D.
Covid-19 have really damaged this market. Gone are the days where you could go there just to get out of the house.
Not your fault Ridley
R. B.
Ridley Road market is a very good place to do shopping 💝👍😁😃
S. h.
Ralston is very popular street market
Cheap fresh fruit and vegetables .
I do all my shopping there
A. “. A. B.
This market has a diverse range of products.
A. J.
Cheap and cheerful Dalston street market with an array of fruit and veg stands bordered by various shops and bakeries. Rumour has it you can buy a whole smoked monkey for £350 from the butchers round here, and there are confirmed reports of rat meat for sale (probably a bit cheaper, pick yourself up a bargain).
I picked up a curry from a little shop-front this lunch time which was reasonable, although for £4 I would have expected a bigger portion. Pretty sure that was chicken in it... OR WAS IT? I'll end this review on a cliffhanger - if no more reviews appear on G+ then it's safe to assume I'm dead. Tell my family I love them.
b. l.
Used to be a great place, still worthy of getting some vegies, but that is it. Good for the locals tho, and money friendly. Do needs a proper cleanup tho.
J.
Always lose myself in the hustle and bustle, smells, people etc. Safe and purposeful environment🤗
C. F.
Cheap and cheerful market which is bustling on weekdays and saturday's but closed on sundays. Stalls opening out of shack like premises and the now infamous 'mr salad',who spends his whole day peeling veg as passers-by watch in confusion, give this market an unusual vibe that is slightly reminiscent of the places you may come across while travelling the globe as a student backpacker.
P. I. O.
Variety of food items can be found here at reasonable prices, but parking is an issue
B.
A variety of affordable foods, fashions and fabrics in a energetic market. Mixed reactions to a talking teddy bear but mostly lovin me!
S. W.
A bit sparse since Covid but picking up gradually.
S. J. R.
Lots of stuff to buy. Variety of products- food, clothing and others
R. C.
Nice market to get veg and fruits but I would never buy meat there. Clothes and shoes are also available and cheap but one gets what one pays for-don't expect too much from it.
B. C. (.
Foodie heaven! Can highly recommend the katsu wrap in the marketplace next to London fields school. Tried the award winning salted caramel brownie and tbh wasn't impressed, great taste but very dry, it's two thin layers of brownie baked separately then sandwiched together with salted caramel, i suspect this is why it's dry, I will definitely go back and try the bacon and maple one though as thus is a traditional thick browine so I'm guess Williams the proper amount of delicious gooey centre!
J. D.
great place, first time I've been there
A. M.
Love the vibe here! Food is amazing and cheap! Always a bargain to be had in the market!
A. W. W.
