Reviews of SimplyFresh Bethnal Green
D. F.
I used to have a 5* review, but I feel I must downgrade it a bit…
The product is excellent as always. A variety of competitively priced items as well as more gourmet or pricey options. Service has always been courteous and friendly enough.
However, providing the option of a till receipt should be the default. It is the only place where I shop that doesn’t offer their customers a receipt.
Additionally, a lot of items are not marked or the price isn’t correct, or offers aren’t updated at the till. Very often my shopping comes up £3 or £4 higher than expected, and without the receipt it’s almost impossible to know why on the spot or challenge it without making a scene.
As a result, I usually only buy a few essentials for which I know what the price will be.
O. C.
I have been shopping at Simply Fresh for 15 years and I always have a good experience there. The best organic and fresh produce in the whole of east London and a lovely family run place with really friendly and helpful staff. Couldn’t recommend it more!
J. S.
Great selection of organic fruit & veg and wide choice of hipster beers and Borough wines. Super friendly service. Check out the Turkish breads, Brindisa meats and family-produced olive oil.
E. B.
Simply fresh is simply the best! It genuinely enhances my experience of living in the area and I spent too much time during maternity leave perusing the aisles and experimenting with all the amazing diverse produce they stock. Thank you Mem for being my favourite shop in London.
Y. H.
Love Simply fresh. Mem and team go above and beyond for their customers. During lockdown, this place genuinely felt like a community hub. The only downside - the range of new products in store means there is always a high chance of walking out with something delicious that ruins my diet attempts.
L. L.
I shop here regularly but I have to echo other reviews, some staff are really un-polite and unhelpful. There's one member of staff in particular who I hate being served by. They never speak when serving me, no smile and no thank you.. they're bad mood puts a downer on my day.
It's a great shop and it has the potential to be amazing. I love shopping with small/independent businesses but if a similar shop opened in the area, I'd be inclined to shop there instead in the hope to be treated better.
S. R.
Love this place! Been shopping here for years, and it's everything you want from a local shop. Always great selection of stuff with everyday bits and really good quality produce mixed in, and really lovely staff too. A*
K.
Great selection of produce and healthy, gourmet foods. However, I'd rather support other local businesses with better customer service as some of the staff are rude and unhelpful which leaves a bad taste. They often follow you around the store making you feel like a thief even if you’re a regular which is why I left 3 stars. My advice is to be friendlier to your customers who are supporting you, or we’ll shop elsewhere.
G. R.
I used to shop here for its fresh and high quality products. The shop is clean and cool. Very often you can find nice fresh Italian cheese, salami and olives! Just great!
N. M.
The best grocery store in the area by far. I walk all the way from Mile End specifically to do my grocery shopping. Lots of organic and vegan options as well as zero packaging/waste options. Worth a visit if you give a damn about the environment. Super friendly staff too.
R. B.
Brilliant local store. Well worth a bit of a journey to travel to.
M. C.
Amazing shop, huge selection of products and super friendly staff!
S. M.
This is hands down the best grocery store! They have an incredible selection of pantry staples and unique ingredients - anything you can think of, they will have! The staff are always so friendly, helpful and will even order products in for you! They have an excellent cheese and charcuterie counter, as well as fresh bread, Borough Wines on tap, fresh olive oil, and even fresh yeast for sale! Simply Fresh has pretty well been my sole grocery store since the pandemic began and have made cooking at home through the pandemic an enjoyable and exciting experience. I’ve always felt safe and comfortable with the practices they’ve put in place. Sadly, I’ve just moved away from the neighbourhood and I am honestly missing them so much! If you live nearby, check them out. They are an absolute gem!!!
M. L.
It’s a large store with a lot of selection. I really like that they have bulk items like cashews and grains. Would love to see more package free options. Giving it a three star review because they carry lots of veggies with unnecessary plastic packaging. The bananas were all in plastic bags.
P. A.
Basically a wholefoods in all but name. Great quality stuff and an upscale variety, from eco friendly supplies to 'bring-your-own' container for essentials. Lots of organic and biological produce too. BUT it's all at wholefoods prices - at least it felt like we really got the quality we paid for, so a great option for when you are looking for something better than average.
D. U.
Very nice and clean shop, well stocked and always fresh. I am a regular customer there and no once i found something out of date. The shop is run buy hard working guys and i can tell how much effort goes for the shop to be the way it is. It is always a pleasure to shop in there. Highly recommended!!
Mehmet
I am sorry for leaving my last review in such manner and the claims i made and i apologise for taking so long to change it. Your shop is truly the nicest in the area and i love everything about it.
The day i have left the review wasn't my best day and something that happened in the store made me do it. The very next day i felt bad about it and i meant to change it straight away but it took some years for that to happen. Again, I apologise
happy customer :)

Very pricey for what often is just co-op branded food. Good selection of veg though
M. N.
I like this store a lot. The product they've on offer is exactly what I'm looking for in a smallish neighborhood supermarket. A lot of organic produce, amazing bread from the local Pavilion bakery, oil, wine and cleaning products on tab, great selection of nuts and seeds, dairy alternatives etc. Only downside and reason why I'm not doing ally shopping here is the price tag - which is as you'd expect quite high. Can't have it all I guess...
H. B.
Lovely and friendly locally run shop with lots of plastic free, organic and whole food options. Yes, they are more expensive than other supermarkets due to the types of products and brands that they sell, but what they do have is of great quality!
A. “. H.
Love to treat myself and my dog Jazz to the best experience this side of the year we have been coming here since 2011 and the store has changed from the regular one stop shop for the last late night shopping to be an alternative healthy option and I am not rich enough to buy the weekly shop I treat us regularly.
Staff are very friendly and magnificent in every way possible and it has a very local community village feeling hard enough to find in the actual countryside but in London??
It is a pleasure
Adrian and Jazz

I great convenience store on Roman Road. Nice selection of stuff, very friendly staff, good value, and they’ve worked really well during the current health scare.
I especially like the cashier with the colourful hair, who is always friendly , knowledgeable and chatty.
By far my favourite local store.
K. M.
Lots of specialty items (including vegan/gluten free) and fancier foods, including a nice cheese counter at the back. The shop does have narrow aisles so it's hard to distance if it's busy.
D. K.
Nice local store with good quality local products. Fresh veggies, fruits, BREAD, olive oil, wine on tap?! A lot of good cheese, meats. Pretty much everything you need. The only disadvantage can be a price, but when doing small shopping it's fine. Also, they have pretty nice choice of beer!
A. K.
Best shop in East London! Great products and great customer service. The dark chocolate covered honeycomb is a treat I would travel great distances for; ice lollies are the best I think I've ever tried. Love the home made posters in the windows too - very artsy.
R. P.
The best place to shop in the area. Great selection of fruit and vegetables, and fantastic range of top quality products. Every time I go in there I can see new products on the shelves, you can tell they care about bringing indipendent brands to the public. They also offer the chance to buy nuts, rice and legumes without any packaging. Staff is great, I've been knowing them for years and they're alwats lovely with their customers.
G.
Overpriced can find most things cheaper elsewhere, but good if you’re looking for organic foods or alternatives
C. J.
Love this dog-friendly local supermarket! Great range of produce and package-free options (more of the latter like grain refills, please!). Haven’t tried the wine refills or borrow a bag but great initiatives.
S. K.
I loved the store as its a little gem in inner city London in what feels like the middle of a concrete jungle. They had lovely fresh fruits and specialty tomatoes. The only downside is that customers are provided plastic food bags to take their fruit and veg in. I have emailed the store and recommended paper bags instead as that would be better for the environment. If they are trying to appeal to health conscious and organic foodies makes sense that these customers would also care about the environment too.
D. E.
This shop is a real gem. Has a little delicatessen as well with all sorts of cured meats, olives and cheeses. Lots of great products and delicious bread!
Highly recommend.
T. T.
Not enough room to walk around in with a pram or even baskets in your hand. Other then that products are alright. And staff are friendly. I like some of the fresh produce. I think if the shop was bigger it would bring in more customers as the shop has so much potential and we need something like that in the area big and bright.
G. T.
Brilliant local supermarket supporting independent farmers.
Tremendous quality of fruit and vegetables as well as a great selection of gourmet snacks and deli ingredients.
The craft beer selection is solid too with a strong representation from local London Breweries 😁
C. P.
Great shop with high quality fresh produce and good selection of deli items, including cheeses. Lovely staff too
M. “. B.
The small size of the shop actually hides a fantastic variety of products. Compared to the usual depressing atmosphere and choice of the "express" shops of the big chains, this is a refreshing and definitely more satisfying experience. True, it's more expensive than the big retail chains, but you'll be rewarded with proper quality, especially for the fresh stuff (bread, fruit, vegetables, meat); plus, the deli counter is a joy, they even sell Mortadella and for an italian that's absolutely a plus! Strongly recommended if you want to step up on your food quality and variety
B. O.
Love Simply Fresh! Fantastic high quality produce, with a great deli counter for cheese and pates. A wonderful range of other groceries, including some local producers, and of course bread from the E5 Bake house.
M. B.
You can find there a variety of organic and vegan products that is interesting. Otherwise it is true that is a bit expensive than other shops. Also they have nuts, cereals and some pulses in bulk.
C. D.
A fantastic family owned business. I love how they source the highest quality products. I asked about their olivo oil for example. It comes from farms they actually know. I was talking with the manager. He explained all about the process of pressing oil. How ripe the olives should be, the pH & so much more. It was quite an education. I can bet you Tescos only cares about profit. These guys care about bringing me the best products they can.
H. T.
If you are aiming to go packaging free then this shop sells Ecover cleaning products as refills as well as Borough wines and olive oil. If you don't have a suitable container then you can purchase one there.
Also lots of fresh fruit and a deli counter as well as most groceries you would expect to find in a shop of this kind.
M. W.
This is the best grocery store in East London. We used to live above a Waitrose in West London and when we moved East, we were worried because there was no Tesco/Waitrose/Whole Foods near by... Then we discovered Simply Fresh, which is ten times better and five minutes away. It's on the same level (if not better) than a Whole Foods. The staff are friendly, the products are high quality and there are lots of organic/gluten free options. I'm not surprised that it has won the independent retailer of the year award 2014 and some other awards.
s. n.
Well stocked organic supermarket with a large range of fruit and veg as well as an amazing cheese counter. You definitely can find all the things that you cant find elsewhere in here.
Not giving it 5 full stars as some of the stuff in there can be ridiculously overpriced.
M. M.
I love their selection of organic food. Veg and fruit very fresh. Great bread too. Find everything I need. Super friendly staff too !
p. r.
Good quality food and always very friendly staff. Great family run local shop. Highly recommended 😊
G. M.
Gluten Free, vegan ranges. And fruit, veg, grains available plastic free. Wide selection of craft beers.
C. B.
Great shop, clean and lots of variety. friendly staff and a good loyalty program too. A bit more expensive for certain things that the big chain stores, but that's to be expected.
J. G.
Incredible fresh produce. Great range of pantry and specialty items esp for European cuisines. Lovely staff too.
j. w.
Great local shop with artisinal selections, lovely fresh produce and cheese, meat and deli counter. Really friendly family tgat run it with a focus on quality produce. Not the cheapest but you get what you pay for
V. Y.
I go there sometimes when I'm in the neighbourhood. Nice place even if pretty expensive and 1/4 of the products can be found in the supermarket for cheap. Anyway I like it and they have always been very nice.
K. M.
Went looking for a couple of things that Tesco dont stock and they were available, also spotted more items that I will return for and the sourdough was excellent as well
S. R.
A good local grocery shop, with excellent sourdough loaves, craft beer and all the other East London staples. Unfortunately it is a bit overpriced on some essentials like fresh veg or eggs.
N.
Prices are competitive
Food is good quality
Plenty of good fruits and vegetables
Plenty of vegan alternatives
Cashier is friendly and warm
Aisles are 1 person wide. Very narrow.
a. O.
It's a brilliant organic food shop in the East End Of London. And the staff are all lovely and very welcoming. It is quite simply the very best of it's kind in the area.
A. S.
The best local shop you could ever hope for. The loveliest people, all the food and drink you could ever wish for, and a bunch of surprises to keep you guessing. When I move from my flat I'll yearn for this place like a long lost love. <3 Memet <3
A. J.
Excellent, high quality grocery store. Fantastic service. Luxury basics.
A. D.
The best shop. Refill wine, refill olive oil. Huge craft beer selection. Excellent bread. Loads more and nice people who work there.
F. B.
Excellent fruit and veg, cheese and a variety of healthy (and some not so healthy, looking at you Candy Kittens) foods.
I. H.
This has been my local for a couple of years now. The service is brilliant, always with a smile and always helpful. The produce is of a very high quality. Highly recommended!
a. b.

A. V.
Good range of sugar free products! Like it!
We looove them all!
E. B.
A great shop selling everything you need. The products in here are amazing. A very health conscious place. 5 stars!
B. G.
Average local shop with a wider, but of course more expensive selection of 'healthy' foods, so still plenty of junk food. To be honest I would go to Waitrose and get most of this stuff.
D. L.
A gem of a store, huge selection (if they haven’t got it, they will get it for you). The staff know their stock and are very helpful. Can wander in at 7pm and buy everything for a dinner party.
D. E.
Love this shop- especially as they stock some really top quality products. I have to walk for 15 mins to get there from home but it's worth it!
C. N.
Wonderful selection of produce. Very helpful staff. Pleasant local place to shop.
M. M.
Nice surprise in an area otherwise inhabited by friend chicken shops and rundown pubs. The organic veg section is not very comprehensive and therefore 3 stars from me.
