Reviews of The People's Supermarket
T.
The People's Supermarket was opened May 2010, designed to enable healthy food to be supplied to an inner city urban community at affordable prices and inspired by peoples' willingness to exchange their time for other value. It was founded as a co-operaative and changed its legal status in September 2013 to a community interest company.
The supermarket provides the local area of Midtown, London, with a unique combination of grocery store, production kitchen and events, such as supper clubs. It formed part of and supported the development of Lamb's Conduit Street, Holborn, which has featured the arrival of independent fashion shops and a branch of global brand J Crew.
For its innovative approach to food, community involvement and local development, the venture has won several awards, including Future Minds Award for Innovation (2011) and an Observer Ethical Award (2011)
The venture was supported at start-up by many organisations, including the London Borough of Camden, Esmée Fairbairn Foundation and Fredericks Foundation, private companies and many local people. In 2011, it was visited by Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, David Cameron as a flagship of the Big Society initiative..

Really handy little supermarket close to Great Ormand Street hospital, good prices for London, The member of staff who served me was really friendly and chatty if only all retail staff were like him!!!
P. C.
From the outside it looks a bit like a communist-era grocery store in East Germany. I suppose it's a nice concept but I wasn't overly impressed. Staff seemed a bit sour. Ended up going to Waitrose up the road where I found everything I needed (and more) at a fair price and service with a smile!

Food was number one, and their service was outstanding
Thanks

This place is excellent for freshly made wraps and rice bowls they even give a NHS discount if your part of the hard working key workers. I had the falafel wrap and it was just perfect, you choose your own salads and well as sauces and heated/ toasted to your preference. Great place

Things are not priced and that made it hard for me to choose, however when I asked the staff he was quite helpfull and friendly.

You old style grocery store with limited but excellent curated assortment. A joy to shop here!

I love this place and I am a regular. Today I had the most horrendous experience. A new assistant was serving. I bought some coriander and he put it right up to his nose and kept sniffing it. This is a time of COVID-19 and he could not accept he was wrong in doing so. I flipped it and threw the coriander back at him, and realise I should not have done so. This guy should not be serving in a store like this. 21/04/20

Love the ready meals (well priced too!) and fresh flowers/ plants selection. While I do find many of the products over priced I can't fault its freshness and quality. Service is great but sometimes falls flat but given the changing roster of volunteers I suppose that is expected.
Will keep going back!

It's not just a supermarket...Great selection of typical cuisines such as Italian, Asian and Mexican with great organic Brends! Recommended

If you are looking to buy high quality food at reasonable prices, then you should go to The People's Supermarket. You'll get the best cheese selection and various local produce. Apart from their great goodies in store, you'll get to receive the assistance of their polite staff. 2 Thumbs up from me.

I decided to write this review because of the extremely polite staff in The People's Supermarket. I don’t think there are employees who are more helpful and they seem like they work with pleasure. As an old lady I often need help with finding something or I can’t read the label and I ask the first shop assistant I see. And they always help! They are so nice! Thank you all for helping me, because of you I recommend this supermarket to everyone.

The salad boxes and other ready cooked lunches are outstanding. They also have a good range of whole foody type stuff including excellent bread and fruit.

This supermarket has some of the best and affordable homemade food you can find in London. Salads, chorizo and beans stew, chicken salads, are just outstanding. They also offer 10% discount to nhs staff and others.

I love this Supermarket. I can find everything I need. Organic vegetables, fresh fruits, cans, gluten free pasta, etc.❤👍😊

Level wheelchair access. Expensive 'trendy' convenience store, cannot do weekly shop here. Typical Lambs Conduit Street Shop. Overpriced and not much use. However staff are brilliant so extra stars.
T. W.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Good selection of products as well healthier take away lunch option.

The People's Supermarket is full of local produce, some of it more well-known than others. It had a farmer's market feel - as in, it was a bit unpolished but oddly charming. It also stocked a few beers that I've spotted in Liberty's (which was a bit confusing but I assume it's all local produce).

It was ok. The person ringing up my goods was only partially wearing a mask.

Great idea, shame about the guy in charge. It's an eco-conscious supermarket where locals volunteer to be cashiers or stock up for two hours a week in return for reduced price goods. Brilliant, forward-thinking idea but, when we went, many shelves were empty (although what they had looked good, especially the fresh fruit and veg) although we were surprised to see an eco-conscious place stock Nestle. What put me off was the owner. We were trying to have a little shop and he bounded over like an posh, excitable puppy. "Did you bring her here to impress her?" he charmlessly asked my boyfriend. Then he asked if we'd seen him on TV. We hadn't. I don't know why it rubbed me up the wrong way, but it really did.

They generally sell organic food. The store is on my way home, plus they give a 10% discount to NHS employees. I went there in February and I asked if they accepted American Express. Yes they do.
D. G.
Lots of products and most of basic necessities are available. I like the ready meals and they also has organic and healthy selection

Crazy busy on a Friday but lots of great street food! The guys who sell the bibimbaps are friendly and it's a yummy lunch meal!
S. c.
Yes it can be busy peak hours but that is because it is good quality groceries and their ready meals are delicious
V. M.

Best shop for fresh vegetables in this area - lots of other goodies too
A. B.
By far the best supermarket of the area. Good little selection and produce super fresh. Cheap too.

Nice idea. Very much in favour of concept.
Range poor. Pricey.
As a pensioner - I can't afford to support.

Neat place, I often visit this place when I'm in town. A lot of the products that they sell are local, made in the UK which is a huge plus. I'm tired of plastic farm food.
D. G.
Very good variety of food, drinks and household products at good prices.
Lots of made on the day food options.
P. N.
The place where I can feel that I am a human being and I recommend you to visit it. You can find gluten-free products for very good prices actually.
