Reviews of Waitrose & Partners Oxford Street - JL Foodhall
S. I.
If you want lady's and gentle folks cuisine at its best without the price tag of other hallowed stores this is the place to visit. Beautiful busy labelled honeys and jams that support small eco carbon neutral UK companies. Most jam varieties supremely affordable at £2 a jar ( sadly no greengage. Not sure Mirabel plum is the same thing...too yellow)The cheese room is a laid back relax n chill zone. Featured wines adorn the window.
Fresh vegetables are displayed in baskets on plinths so eye catching and easy to select for Ambient shoppers. Not sure if that works well for wheelchair users. Also some of the wines, spirits and beers are in a slightly raised area.
The snack pie counters are quintessentially English at first glance with hot water crust ham n egg castle castellations. Walk farther and you'll find samosas.
The cake counter has been cleared when l arrived late on Sunday afternoon but occupying the space were individually wrapped ginger bread people clad in green and white icing. Do they ever disappoint.
Finally the sandwich counter manages to somehow look more exclusive than the average Waitrose outlet. Great place to pick up your late lunch ...mines always late. Then sit in Cavendish Square to eat it. NB Underbelly tent and other cabaret shows are currently occupying the square so unsure where s left to sit !
V. R.
The fishmonger Bob was so helpful and professional. He prepared the whole salmon I bought for my fish kettle beautifully. The entire experience was very positive.
W. S.
Good place to get your essentials and friendly staff. New products all the times. I mostly get my breakfast and lunch here.
A. G.
A well stocked and centrally located Waitrose at the bottom of John Lewis. This is still open during the covid lock downs so this is good to see!
They have good covid measures in place with hand sanitiser stations and wiping down trolleys/baskets.
They have many counters, including deli and cheese ones as well as a decent sushi one which has a few good vegan options which area really tasty.
They often have reduced items towards the end of business which makes life a little easier!
Large alcohol section and a nice little free from part too, which has things like booja booja and nutritional yeast. They have some good wine on offer and knowledgeable staff on the matter
Staff are mostly helpful and friendly but some wear masks intermittently and seem in their own world. Given its retail this is easy to understand and hold sympathy with.
Not so much now but there used to be many occasions where there was fruit and veg openly rotting on the counters, so I’m glad to see this has changed.
All in all a decent but pricey shop
S. S.
Waitrose is still one of the best places for me to shop. Always have a wide range of products available and very helpful staff.
N. L.
Disappointed that no cooked breakfast option was available due to supply issues. First time that has happened. Otherwise good coffee and bagel. Very quiet as well.
N. J.
Very well laid out and plenty of selection. Loved it
A. M.
Great selection of quality foods. The store is a bit tricky to find at first, located at the lower ground. Staff is genuinely helpful.
J. T.
Great local supermarket with good quality stuff at good value. Good selection and yummy freshly roasted chicken daily.
G. N.
I have been here multiple times and the staff is always super polite! I would like to take this opportunity to thank Liza who went above and beyond to help me find a product, she was incredible thoughtful and attentive!
T. B.
Quite surprised that the Waitrose/John Lewis shop at Oxford Circus opens at 10 am everyday. Had to wait with loads of other shoppers to get in. It was quite a queue. Don't understand why. That's an hour less to shop every day with less than 2 weeks to Christmas
E. L.
This Waitrose is excellent. The bakery is really high quality and the food in general is really good value for Waitrose. The environment is also lovely and the staff are usually very helpful. However the bananas are always very green and not ready to eat, which I cannot I understand. only area for improvement.
N. M.
Excellent marvellous with 5 stars service by Nathan from the beginning to end really impressed no doubt you are holding partnership best service FLAG really well all the best for the future.
M. S.
Really good food hall by Waitrose in the basement of John Lewis. Reasonable range as well given the size and generally full shelves an a clean place. Staff really helpful too if you have any questions.
Have noticed recently that you can find a lot of stock reduced as it's approach best before dates so you could get some nice bargains!
N. J.
Very well laid out and plenty of selection. Loved it

Wanted Gift wrapping service which would of been nice, due to covid they don’t do that service. I wouldn’t of thought that would be a problem if hygiene would allow it washing hands and drying hands. Delivery service was still there. It was for my 7 year young niece, which would of nice all wrapped nice and pretty. It was a belated birthday present back in January.
H. S.
Overall it's ok, but it could an outstand customer services for the price we pay for the goods here.
M. “. B.
Well organised with good product range and friendly staff. Store is not busy and has an access to John Lewis department store. Its my favourite waitrose store over the last few years. I really recommend shopping there..
If you want to have a lough or be amused, you will need to experience the waitrose entrance security guy who is as clueless as blind crossing the busy road. I seriously think that he cannot count up to 3 and allows customers to enter the store without any logical order, having fun and giggling like a child when on duty. The whole experience is a bit embarrassing depends how you look at it. I watched him and i think he takes pleasure in keeping customers outside in a freezy conditions a bit longer then necessary. A type who would qualify to get a fast promotion if he was a Gestapo officer. Store itself is nice and clean. There is a bit of empty space on shelves but I guess John Lewis's buying department has had difficult months over pandemic lockdown. One thing you can clearly recognised is staff members attitude. All employees at waitrose are helpful and engaged in some kind of relevant responsibilities. I never saw angry or unpleasant staff member, or partner as they are called . Always helpful smiling and natural. Management is a bit snobby when they are on the floor but still aware and present to help if needed. Product quality is good at most. I love their ready meals, my favourite chicken spinach leak potato's pot is definitely my winner. I am addicted to bakery produce especially cheese whole bread and foccacia bread when available. I travel to do my shopping 20 min from where I live and I'm always happy I do. Next to waitrose is an open entrance to the homewear department and plenty of pretty gadgets and kitchen equipment. I shop in ladies clothes department on the 2nd floor, as I am size waist 26, and my favourite 4th floor where I get all my bidding pieces , cutting gadgets , bought my sewing machine and plenty of pretty blink blink buttons and other add ons. Its a bit empty so I hope they will provide new merchandise very soon. My point is to score this store 5 stars, its consistency and maintenance of high standards across the whole store and friendly and knowledgeable service they provide.
In tesco I usually used to get a big I DONT KNOW when asked for some assistance.
In sainsbury's I always used to get eyes rolling and teeth kissing.
So its a pleasant experience and surprise to be acknowledged, listened to and actually helped in a waitrose store. And the, most important aspect to it is the fact waitrose staff just do their job. Do exactly what it says on the tin , for which I say thank you!
A. H.
Great place in central London. However it doesn't usually stock everything I need. Clean - as far as the eye can see. Queues, are always quick. So no need to waste too much time at the tills. Great customer service. Sushi is amazing here!
R. B. -. E. k.
A good place to shop.
In the basement of the main John Lewis store but decently accessible.
Very well stocked and can get near most anything you need down there with serviced and self service tills.
Nice bakery and other specialist counters where you can pick and choose.
Very helpful staff to find stuff for you and nice and spacious even at busy times.
Sometimes it is simply logical to buy less food but of a higher quality to fuel your body so you keep in good shape.
C. S.
It a Waitrose note there no difference in price to that of a Big Waitrose unlike certain chains. A variety of items not normally seen in regular Waitrose also. Very handy for shopping for dinner on way home!
M. E.
A great place to feel at home when far away..is helped by people who share beliefs of sustainability..think extraordinary and make it happen
M. N.
Somehow they have managed to fit in this small space twice as many things as my local Waitrose which is double the size. And somehow, you can find some very nice delicacies in this one that you won’t find in your local. This is a perfect place to grab a quick snack (there’s also a sushi bar in-store), or do your groceries. Unless of course you don’t want to carry everything from central London.
B. T.
I found that I was able to get my shopping safely and the Partners in the Foodhall ensured that everything was handled safely with their usual high standard customer service. I was able to pay for my purchases using the contactless system with added safety. Thank you for the Partners who have kept going through difficult times
B. F.
Safe, organised and had toilets open! Not mega busy but people were socially distancing. Staff were courteous and a superior experience compared to my local John Lewis at Kingston where I was last week and no interaction when I went to pay for the goods. I'm a Partner and the quality of service at Kingston is an embarrassing experience, but Oxford Street was very good.
I. B.
As you steep in under normal circumstances, you are greated with beautiful fragrances of fresh flowers.
The foodhall is spacious and the food from around the world is well exhibited.
It's a place that you will find the unusual items to cheer you up.... the service is friendly and professional. It's a pleasure to have a foodhall like this in the heart of London!
D. W.
Great selection of goods. Plenty self service tills. Immaculate. Could spend a nice hour looking round. Really handy having the Waitrose in the basement of the John Lewis store. Nice people.
D. C.
This is a department store with big variety of the products sold by John Lewis. I quite enjoy shopping there.
s. z.
Not so great. Average at best. Great for people whom are on working lunch and small shopping.
K. S. C.
This waitrose is different from the other ones as they have stock that is not available elsewhere. So if you want to browse for artisan chocolate or buy Royal botanical gardens flavoured sparking water, please visit the store.
Z. W.
Always great to shop here. Their products are usually of good quality and a brilliant choice of food and drink. Fresh fish counter is very good and so is the meat counter.
c. s.
Very helpful staff in the wine section.
G. R.
Nice Waitrose. Good quality products. The shop is quite big and has loads of options to buy food. Also they have some products that normally you don't find them in other markets. The thing is that Waitrose is quite hard go find sometimes. It's good for small shopping, but not for buying to much, otherwise you'll spend quite a lot.
C. V.
All good except only one member of staff around self checkouts knew how to deal with a self check rescan. Frustrating for them as well as me, more training needed!
U. P.
The price of my favourite tinned salmon was £3 last month but is £4.65 today. Then I found that they had sold out of green lentils, kidney beans and a lot of similar products. It was very odd to see large empty gaps on the shelves. Perhaps that's why there was no queue at the checkouts .. another unusual feature.
C. F.
I love to visit my Waitrose in Oxford Street.. that's what I call it! The service there is second to none !! The staff there from Managers to sales are wonderful extremely helpful .One gets the feeling they can't do enough for one!! Hence I always go back to my Waitrose in Oxford Street..pure joy..a BIG THANK YOU to everyone there..
T. Q.
Good selection and size. Though sometimes i had to wait for days for tofu back in stock. Friendly customer service team at self-checkout. Enjoy bakery here a lot.
V. B.
Good service, which is rarity nowadays, is happening here.
M. O.
Always the best for Afternoon Tea!
T. T.
The flagship John Lewis department store spanning several floors. Waitrose is located in the basement and occupies a third of the level. It has a limited range of products due to its size.
D. P.
Much less selection of food than before
M. M.
Below the John Lewis! Great location, friendly staff, and large selection. You’ll be sure to find most items here. Lots of unique wines, beers, and liquors.
H. A.
Good selection of food and drink.
B.
A little gem of a food retailer in the heart of Oxford street. Love the separate cheese room and small wine bar. Just right for a cheeky glass of champagne after a hard day of shopping.
A. C.
It's a complete super market on the Oxford street, combined with John Lewis. One can buy from pin to piano here. Very competitive on prices too and very wide variety of everything.
E. H.
Still the best Department store for the people. You name it they have it.
C. M.
Tasted great, would have liked larger selection. On the ball with allergies 👍🏻
L. P.
Small grocery shop, no coffee shop :(
Nice fresh bread, good selection of cheeses.
Everything is fresh.
Sunday opening hours differs from other waitrose shops. Very late
Y. W.
It is OK, a bit small compare to other Waitrose branches. It is a very convenient location in the West end of London, but just wish can be bigger.
K. G.
One of my favourite branches of Waitrose - it's underneath the John Lewis on Oxford Street (although easiest to access from the back). The set-up is market place style, so keep an eye out for the deli counters, fishmongers, cheese room, bakery etc. Great for posh bites - just beware the long queues at busy times.
R. M.
A consistently good shopping experience always, and great customer service in the event if any mishaps. A first choice for many (me included)!
E. R.
Very nice store! Has everything you might need and a bit more. Great selection and a variety of good quality products.
P. M.
Full shelves lots of sanitiser but not many people so easy to do a quick and safe shop.
S. S.
Good bakery, fishmonger and butcher
Helpful staff and self check out as well as cashier tills. Very clean and friendly in the heart of the west end.
S. J.
So handy to have Waitrose close to work, my lunchtime haunt!
J. F.
Good selection of foods and drink - with the best from Waitrose and more. Relatively uncrowded and reasonably socially distanced.
E. L.
Lovely little waitrose store on the lower level of john lewis store, wonderful helpful staff great butchers and wet fish counters as well as deli ,cheese shop and in store bakery perfect for all your needs !
T. C.
Small but decent selection of stuff. If you like regional cakes like Welsh cakes, Parkin, Yorkshire cakes, then you'll be pleased.
L. a.
Very different to marylebone branch bigger branch anyway excellent deli counter both stores branches are fantastic oxford street has the cake counter and the cinnamon buns are exceptional!!!
A. G.
Please note the John Lewis & Partners Food Hall is a Waitrose & Partners Supermarket, it is in the basement of the John Lewis & Partners Oxford Street Store. There is a separate entrance on Henrietta Place if the John Lewis & Partners entrance on Oxford Street or Holles Street is closed.
Also note the Post code is W1C 1DX, and not what is stated by Google as W1A 1EX
J. J. M.
A delight - all my favourite foods, so glad that life is returning to normal
m. v.
Favourite Waitrose, all the regular bits plus something special, excellent service always pop in and great for lunchtime too
K. K.
Nice food hall. Premium products. Lots of offers after lockdown
K. M.
Such a tremendous place. Sadly, the bar is a let down:(
With such a tremendous variety of drinks, the waiters are not experienced enough!
I wish I could run that fab little bar
J. S.
Great customer service every time I visit. In fact I spent more than intended at the cake counter in the food hall due to the fantastic sales team behind the counter so from me - thank you!!
S. M.
Best foodhall ever. Customer service is amazing and cashiers are very quick and efficient but still manage to get in a lovely chat even when it’s busy.
N. M. -.
Always helpful and friendly service
S. A.
Been here looking for some festive season sweets to buy for close friends.
Such a selection
J. F.
Very good shop. Expensive, as all Wholefoods are, but you get excellent products, ones you can’t find elsewhere and it’s in the centre of London.
T.
Self service checkout staff are incredibly nice and a credit to the organisation!
A. H.
Lovely store but does feel a bit like it's falling behind the times a bit.
A. O.
Quality foods at the best supermarket. Pricier goods but worth every penny. Not my regular place but live coming here.
j. p.
Great place. Lovely staff
J. A.
I tried the prawn roll from the sandwich counter, came with a sweet chilli sauce. It was lush. Great customer service.
F. L.
My favorite food store. I never fail to pay it a visit whenever I find myself in Oxford Street. Recommended.
T. R.
Good selection of grubski but doom, gloom, their wine bar section is closed. WHY?
K. R.
Excellent selection of food, somewhat expensive but supplying black bomber so can't complain. Love that cheese!

Convenient supermarket located on Oxford Street in the Food Hall of John Lewis. The entrance is through the John Lewis. For a smaller footprint, they manage to fit in an impressive amount of inventory.
J. C.

P. F.
Easy to reach, well nice organize! Very good wine selection!
A. C.
I've expected a better range of products! Is too little to be the Oxford Street Waitrose.
Still, the best choice in this area!
