Reviews of Wing Fat Supermarket
C. B.
Visited this Asian supermarket today, found that big jar of Laoganma crispy chilli oil that I haven't seen in another Asian supermarket yet (usually I only see big jar with other flavors), I was really happy to see that as my partner and I really love it!
- This supermarket have variety of Asian foods & drinks (Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, Japan, Korean...etc).
- Prices are pretty fair.
- Some items don't have price on it.
- Inside of the supermarket is really really narrowed, each isles barely can fit 2 people at same time. I'd suggest to go when it's not busy.
Overall it's not a bad place to grab some Asian goodies, but it's really too narrow to walk around when there's people in the aisles. Will try to avoid to go if there's too many people inside of the supermarket.
M. S.
Good shop for Asian groceries. It is well stocked and you can find anything you might need. The prices are fair too. The aisles are a bit narrow so there’s not much space when it’s busy but it’s not a huge problem. The staff was friendly too.
M. N.
Great little supermarket. Lots crammed in to it's space. Everything from fresh foods to frozen foods to pots pans chop sticks to dishes.
All that you could need.
Plus a very handy location for those living close by
J.
A shop for most tastes, ranging Asian to European foodstuffs. Staff are friendly and helpful. Pricing can be a little awkward to understand, but that just makes it more fun to spend more time looking at produce.
T. C.
It was a small supermarket but offered all essential ingredients for Chinese dishes. The prices were attractive too.
M. S. (. S.
Was much better than expected.
Some cheap prices.
But some items are quite a bit dearer than expected.
Suppose it is reasonable because of the location.
Lots of different things to choose from.
Worth a visit.
c. f.
Such a great find. I managed to find lots of things I haven't had in years. And the prices were very reasonable!
G. T.
I would struggle to review this place but really enjoy going on a discovery mission in here... Pu Erh tea is available at very reasonable prices and Japanese Mochi rice cakes have now become my favourite treat.
When near China Town I can't help myself but pop in.
A. B.
Amazing supermarket with incredibly friendly staff and very helpful! Very well stocked and handy location!
T.
I had to wait outside because the guard didn't want me to go in with other (full) shopping bags- seemed a bit harsh
C. N.
I thinking this place is great. I go there to buy new ( for me ) ingredients to experiment with and when i checkout to buy them, the people at the till advise me without even asking them on how to use the ingredients and double check if i still want to buy them
P. S.
Alots of people know very little about this place. This place is much cheaper to buy Chinese grocery that some big Chinese supermarkets. This place is my favorite for many Chinese bits and bobs. This place offers alots of Chinese vegetables and other roots ingredients.
My tumbs up to this place
D. G.
Great selection of things I cannot get where I live so well worth a visit.
G. J.
Everything you need to make great meals. Helpful staff.
S. C.
Bigger and more expensive than opposite Hang Won Hong. Only have sweet that basil grown in Ethiopia, no krapao. But many other herbs which looks good, but expensive. Original dried chilies from Thai with fantastic smell. There are eggplants, but radicoulsly priceed. Also better selection of rice. Fresh fish.
A. C.
This place is great. Not speaking Chinese isn't an issue either as everybody is more than happy to help you find what you need. They have so many things, it's like a cultural adventure to an extent! Comparatively the prices are so cheap when compared with supermarkets too.
R. C.
Always can find cheaper Vegetable Gyoza Mandu brands & noodles. I love this store always welcoming and cheaper than other supermarkets in China Town, Manchester
R.
A small Chinese grocery shop. It's very clean, with a wide variety of interesting oriental food. There is frozen and fridge section which hosts a variety of fresh, green vegetables etc. Great selection of ramen, sweets and the list goes on. Lovely staff :)
D. W.
Great shop, has everything I need always.
R. G. (. P.
It's nice shop, many oriental products but sadly I couldn't find samabal olek in 1l jar and my favorite nongshin spicy soup. Exept that is very good :)
M. L.
Always find what I need and the friendly security is always so friendly and helping you 🙂
H. L.
Good Chinese foods store had some products cheaper than others stores and friendly staffs if you buying a full box then they give you 20%. Off.
C. V.
Great offering for such a small shop, not just chinese product, also other Asian countries' food as well, in small ranges or odd products. Very fast at the tills.
J. R.
Great place with wonderful discoveries to be had. Love going there every time I'm in Manchester to stock up our Asian options. There are some really sensitive people in these comments lol.
S. R.
I have visited this store twice now - very cramped due to narrow aisles made worse when the store is full of people.
The majority of the staff on the floor try to help, but sometimes the language barrier is a bit too much.
Staff behind the tills are brisk and never smile or ask if I found everything I was looking for. Other shoppers have been more helpful in finding what I needed.
Big security guard at the door, but considering how dangerous the parking lot across the street has become, I'm not surprised.
The store holds a wide variety of dried mushrooms, herbs, fish and seafood. Loads of different sauces, noodles and sweets.
There is a frozen food section as well as a chilled section where you can buy live crabs and lobsters - which made me a bit sad in all honesty.
Wide variety of teas in the far aisle whilst a crockery and cookery section sits in a hidden corner of the store.
Prices are good, and you can pay by card if your purchase holds a value of £5 or more.
My advice is to make a list of what you want and visit the store when it's not very busy.
Will visit again.
V. M.
I love discovering the chinese supermarkets in china town, I hadn't visited this one before. There are steps on the entrance so no wheelchair access and its very cramped inside. There didnt seem to be a limit on people inside the store. There is a good selection of goods.
E. C. (.
An authentic Chinese supermarket which can be quite claustrophobic and disorienting but that's all part of the 'charm'! Quite a decent array of Chinese goods and snacks and a very nice restaurant above the supermarket. The only thing that can be said of this place is that the staff aren't that friendly or helpful but maybe that's all part of being authentic!
R. B.
Friendly staff and have a good range of products for south east Asian cooking. Staff was even helpful to look at my recipe list and guide me through the isles. Also have a variety of sauces noodles and rice.
K. A.
If you love oriental food, this will be heaven for you. I came back with 2 full baskets that I didn't plan for. Well spent 💸.
V. J.
Good selection of different foods wholesale or otherwise and equipment available, easy parking and fairly close to the city centre. Bonus of a bakery cafe joined to the side makes it more accessible for a quick bite too. It could do with being a little bit more brighter inside as it always seems a bit dim making it more dingy than it really is.
P. M.
Great source of all things Chinese for cooking, from rice and sauces through to meat, seafood, exotic vegetables and cooking utensils. Do note that the aisles are extremely narrow, and often you can't fit more than one person down them at once!
S. L.
Wide range of produce packed floor to ceiling into a tiny little store. We regularly go for our staples but there's always something different to try! Staff are friendly and helpful and their prices are fantastic value.
C. L.
Good selection could be a bit more helpful
N. M. (.
I was wandering around China town and saw what, at first, appeared to be a small Asian store, however it was anything but small, it's understated entrance betrays the deceptively larger interior, however having said that the aisles are quite narrow, some may find it cramped or claustrophobic.
Prices are very reasonable with recognisable products such as common herbs, spices and vegetables being available and more specialised products such as root beer and ramune being available much cheaper than in restaurants.
Obviously being an Asian supermarket the language barrier on products may be an issue for some, however with modern translation services on phones, some common sense and polite inquiry will ensure you have no issues.
The staff very pleasant, but the store seemed very busy and staff were doing their best to keep wait times down so not much time for small talk, but don't take this to mean they are rude, they are polite, just efficient!
I enjoyed exploring and will be returning when I need more root beer!
P. L.
I have been to this store ever since I was a boy. Still pretty much essential to the China town in Manchester.
N. C.
Good variety of Asian grocery items
H. S.
In general they have basically everything. But there is always room to improve. The layout is very traditional and hard to pass when there is already someone else in the aisle
J. S.
Cheapest supermarket in Chinatown, only Downside is the narrow aisles to cram in the stuff. 2 aisles are single file only. (also lot reviews saying about rude security asking to leave bags behind the door, 90% of Chinese supermarkets I've been to even big (asda size) one not in Chinatown but couple miles down ask this. Its a security and anti theft measure. They don't make much money in these cheap shops. People do and have stolen, so just be respectful, the guards look after your bags anyway.
K. B.
Very well stocked mini-supermarket. Everything you would need for chinese cooking. Street parking limited in the immediate vicinity. Certainly worth a visit to appreciate the large variety of oriental goods in the narrow aisles.
S. P.
May be cramped for space but full of everything you want. Very good prices. As to the guard o the door, that is common at most shops these days.
K. M.
Everything you need in one place. Very narrow aisles but packed with both food and cooking items. £5 minimum spend for using cards.
M. S.
If you want authentic Chinese ingredients then this is the place, live lobster, crab and all manner of things I don't even know what they are.
M. E.
Pretty much everything you could possibly want from a Chinese supermarket, with some Korean food, too. Fresh, frozen, dried and canned foods plus fresh bakery produce. Great stuff!
N. P.
Great range of products. The amount of choice can be a little daunting. And the aisles are very narrow, so don't go if you suffer from claustrophobia!
H. B.
Staff were pretty unfriendly. Not sure if I caught them on an off day but couldn't have been much more dismissive. Receipt given is pretty vague. They have some good bits though.
V. R.
Always find exactly what I want here, and end up coming out with much more than I went in for.
Everything you'll ever need to cook any Chinese dish, including the pots and pans
N. J.
Ok. A bit claustrophobic.
D. M.
It's the only one within miles, middle of chinatown, just for the convenience deserves some stars. The products, the usual you can find, also tools for cooking.
S. N.
Best price. I bought moon cakes there. The prices were unbelievably much cheaper than the original moon cake bakeries in Hongkong.
C. S.
Really useful to have this in the centre of town. Much cheaper to buy spices, noodles etc from here than the supermarkets and lets me experiment with new cooking (though I've yet to perfect Char Sui Bao!).
E. P. Z.
Really helpful staff at the door!
k. m.
Best place to get fresh Asian Vege and cooking items more choices then others In Chinatown...always friendly and welcoming
L.
Great selection of authentic oriental products. Store can be a bit cramped as it is very small but that doesn't stop me being a regular customer.
R. H.
A great ethnic food shop with a good variety especially of Chinese foods
P. M.
A busy little place with an excellent range of Asian products.
J. J.
Great choice of frozen dim sum, fresh veg & herbs.
R. G.
Went in looking for gyoza skins and although they seem to have everything you need its difficult to know where bits are without signing although the staff are always very helpful
L. M.
It would be better if they open until later. If parking is free, that would even be better and more inviting
J. H.
Great selection of Asian food. Value for money varies - most of the bulk products (rice etc.) very competitive.
H. K.
Chinese supermarket in Manchester's China town. Ideal for all your spices and unusual cooking ingredients at great prices.
D. S.
An excellent Chinese supermarket, well stocked and great for foods that I enjoyed when I was in China...
S. F.
A little awkward as I don't speak Chinese. But normally find what I want.
M. T.
Loads of Chinese foods and staff are very helpful.
T. S.
My fave Asian grocery spot atm. Small but got the essential tackle x
H. S.
Best prices and insane instant ramen variety
J. W.
Good food but when you have a security guard search you and confiscate your shopping before entering the wonton world, it's a bit poo
K. 6.
Traditional Chinese restaurant. Popular with Chinese customers. A little expensive so only 4 stars. Great Chinese supermarket next door.
