Reviews of Northampton Market
K. J.
Having done some fruit and Veg shopping in the past today we celebrate the Platinum Jubilee with over 2000 cadets and Adult volunteers. It was made that more special by sharing it with my Son.
Great event, respectful store holders and always clean
M. S.
It's great to see the market play host to great events like the Northampton Pride Festival, the Northampton Music Festival and the Dino Day earlier this year.
As well as the events it's a great market with some lovely local traders, and great local shops and cafes around the edge.
A true heart of the community in Northampton.
L. G.
Good vibes around the weekend merchandisers. Pleased to see a march for environment awareness and some wicked outfits
E. W.
Went for gay pride event. Lots of stalls. Great music. Lovely atmosphere. Had a coffee at Starbucks.
N. W.
Attended armed forces day, market was in full swing, fresh veg and fruit, flowers etc. Need to keep the market there
D. B.
Shame that it's going to be changed and the trader's are going to be moved down the hill it's going to be a big setback for the town centre and it's going to be very hard for the disabled and elderly to be able to get to the other spot for the market place all the years we've had a good market place what's next?
R. N.
The open market at Northampton town centre. Hosts daily shops for vegetables fruits , books , photos, households stuff and many more. Couple of nice breakfast vendors, a waffler shop, ride if kids and so on. Nice place to spend quality time.
A. C.
I've been there for Dennis from Dennis Gifts to take out some photo. He's working brilliant and I'm extremely satisfied. Definitely I will come back again. Thank you!!!
P. H.
It has shrunk a lot of the years, which is a real shame. Now it's a good place to buy fruit and vegetables, but not much more.
A. P.
Love open air markets. Fresh produce, along with clothing stores.
N. M.
Location for Northampton Pride, with a stage and local groups showcasing their work on the stalls.
W.
Nice place for veggies abs fruits and stores for almost everything you want to buy around . Located in the town centre
R. Y.
it was a nice market Many years agi
T. Q. T.
Lovey outdoor market where you can find many fresh fruits with cheap price
P. D.
Open market in Northampton where you can buy vegetables and fruits. There's some other inexpensive things like household items, decorations, other odds and ends.
M. S.
I love the Market even though there's a handful of stalls because it's fresh fruit and vegetables daily and you can't beat fresh more people need to support it before it disappears, the council are trying to remove the market help us please x
R. B.
Some great fresh vegetables on offer from a couple of stalls, shame the market is in decline.
P. B.
In years gone by northampton town had a fantastic market and fish market but sadly the council have done their best to destroy knocked buildings moved our bus station the list goes on and on just a few loyal stall owners remain.
B. G.
Good place for fresh vegetables and all varieties of fruits for 1 to 1.5 pound a bowl. You can get leafy vegetables less than a pound (70 p ) like corriander, spinach, mint and spring onions, parsley.
A. M.
Small market, they sell mostly used stuff. Some carousel was onsite, I guess it’s for Christmas time. I wish there were more quality street food and fun experience.
H. N.
Great selection of fresh fruit, vegetables, meat and fish. I often prefer going to here rather than the local supermarket chains. I always take a stroll through whenever I visit the city centre. Nice friendly atmosphere.
G. D.
Plenty of fruit and veg, phone stalls and refreshment stalls. Very little of anything else it's sad but then there seems little street cred to shop in a market anymore. It could be a great deal better
N. W. (.
I always like shopping at the town's market, it's part of Northampton's history too
K. M.
Always prompt polite service and good produce. After 800 years it is a pity it is not busier. Why pay more to queue at a supermarket?
b. f.
It's a shame how the market has shrunk over the years. I remember having to dodge people on a sat,it was that packed. But it is still good that at least some stalls remain
m. n.
I wouldn't recommend as such not much goes around the stalls
D. L.
Good so don't move it
A. M.
Love the market especially the lady next to the fruit and veg stall. Her prices are brilliant and her food and drinks are the best in town. 👍👍
C. T.
It's hard to describe the market as its built up of many different stalls, the atmosphere is great though and the one thing that I enjoy the most is you can have a friendly chat with any stall owner and they dont brush you off like if you tried to start a conversation with someone in a normal store. At the fruit and veg stalls everything is fresh, there's also several food trucks and one that is a butcher's 😂 but they have a mass amount of things in the market that your bound to enjoy.
N. D.
Always a good shopping experience
D. D.
Good for fruit but felt a bit lacking in variety when I went - would be good to see a variety of different vendors with different produce/goods.
G. M.
I always enjoy a market and quite a has been done to brighten the area up. Trouble is with fewer shops less people are visiting the town in general. Parking charges are going up so the situation just gets worse. The stall holders get less custom and so there are less stalls. Soon the market may fold.
S. M.
Funkys Noodle Bar - next to the Market Office. Best Noodles in Town!
S. I.
Lovely selection of items real traditional market feel to it. Sells everything you can expect from a market fresh produce fresh flowers. Great selection of costume jewelry. Brick a brac. Lovely book selection on a Wednesday.
Y. R.
Not bad at all. A good point is added by a stand with fresh meat and animal products from English farmers. Strongly recommend to visit ! The problem is the green grocery... You can find some...but the quality is poor, especially in tomatoes!!! Even that ones supposed to be ecological produced, are TASTELESS!!! The best market in tomatoes is Egypt. Why they doesn't bring them from there?
c. s.
I like the record stall on here. Fruit and veg stalls also good and cheaper than the supermarkets. However, I would advise to go early, especially on warn days, and take your produce home ASAP, otherwise some soft fruits (e.g. raspberries) goes off quickly
J. L.
Great quality Fruit& Veg....not a place to Hang around at Night
b. m.
There are some good stalls here. Bargain CD's Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Fab vinyl albums on Thursday. The usual fruit and veg stalls. Also some interesting secondhand/vintage stuff.
A. D. (.
Market Square with stalls surrounded by few places to eat and drink. Walk to Town Centre where shop closure is evident all around.
Yet another magnificent Council decision to help suffocate the failing shopping experience by imposing ludicrous parking charges
T. B.
Not what it was 10 years ago. It has shrunk now something horrible. Still, every so often we get exotic traders selling peculiar wares which should interest the adventurous. Yesterday (Saturday 3rd June, 2017) it was Elk sausages - fantastic - and veal sausages - quite nice too - from Lithuania.
Who knows what it will be next time?
D. S. K. S.
Clean, well organised setup. Friendly merchants. I hope that the management will add more merchants.
M. R.
Entirely depends on the day of the week and whether there's an event on the content of the market. Always has fresh fruit and veg stalls, mobile cafes and florists; but for the most part is in dire need of more regular, distinctive merchants during the middle of the week.
C. H.
Keeping the tradition of the English market town alive. A wonderful market in the centre of a pretty average town; possibly the highlight of the Town Centre! Good range of stall with quality fruit and veg and great prices and personal service and banter too.
S. J.
Not quite what it used to be but still sizeable and sometimes has a stage area where entertainment happens. It's a nice location surrounded by buildings and its a moments walk from the main bus station and borders the main shopping street.
A. S.
Good stalls, good value fruit and veg. Friendly. Cafés for bacon butties etc.
N. B.
Not to busy in morning
M. W.
This place is great for fruit and veg. But not so good as it used to be
K. G.
Fantastic central market for the town. So much fresh supplies and fairly priced, it is a great feel to be able to get all you need from here.
Also, the entertainment center by the side of the market is a great addition to the value you get.
The market is the center for all happening points in Northampton.
C. R.
We sat in the market and had some food, it was lovely to see it buzzy. Still need more stalls.
K. G.
Sad that this market has become so reduced in size... once, could spend a good couple of hours wandering around the stalls... now it takes 10 minutes or so, and that's it... the local authority should do something to help save this historic market
d. m.
A market full of stalls with any kind of product! Have a listen to the butcher on his mini-van, he talks to his customers by using a mic and a speaker, he's quite a picturesque character of the Market!
C. T.
Worth a visit as we must keep our market the range of fresh fruit and vegetables is by far better than the supermarkets, I have been coming here since I was little and love the banter from the market traders.
k. a.
Great variety of veg and flowers and even better variety of stalls from watch batteries for a few quid to Hungarian honey! Plus the usual smoking, phoning, computing, belting, clothing and luggage paraphernalia.
S. T.
This is by far the best place in town to get your useless tat. Apart from maybe one of the many charity shops or Poundlands nearby. Still, you can never have enough tat. Also you can get fruit and veg.
F.
I get all my fruit and veg here off Eamons stall. Best prices and best quality. Love the bike repair dude also. I use it for lots of things.
s. s.
Council has ruined the market and new plans will be the final straw
J. W.
It's a market with some interesting stalls for food, especially meat, game and fruit and vegetables. It's a shame there are so many stalls selling tatty cell phones and cheap clothes though. Don't go on a cold windy day. It's a lazy wind in Northampton, it goes straight through you.
I.
Nice and cheap fruit and veg without a bunch of additives and plastic. Plenty of stalls with many options of different wares for sale.
O. s.
Normal market setting with less products for day to day activities
H. M.
In recent years it has gone downhill, not as many stalls or traders like there was not much choice. Could do with better funding and to attract more traders cause it is a bit part of Northamptons heritage which we are loosing as years go by
N. B.
It's not the worst market. Could do with being more diverse in what they do. If you want fruit and veg or a phone cover or clothes then your all good.
C. H.
Not many stalls today but fruit veg good value.
K. H.
Monday's have very little amount of stall holders, mainly fruit and veg. If you want to know when a particular stall holder is going to be there. Best ask the individual stall holder.
S. M.
I really like Northampton market square, as a market square. I think that the shops around the square, are a bit dilapidated, and do not do any great justice to the square. I think the stalls which actually form the market, within the square, are pretty mediocre. I think that the council do not make best use of the market square. Whenever I am on the continent and see a vibrant and well used market square, it makes me sad for the one that we have in Northampton, which could be so good.
The specific, recent, event which saw me in the market square with my 6 year old daughter, and another friend (11 years old), was to watch the 'Winter Wonderland' event - tragic.
T. K.
The area though clean and tidy is so under used, the local council should be bolder and brave to revitalise it to something like its former glory. I cannot help thinking the Councillors should actually be ashamed and disgusted with themselves for letting what could be a beautiful town, go into a state of destitution, and that goes for the Councillors who have failed to fight to prevent the town from decaying. SHAME ON YOU.
M. A.
Went to the Christmas Lights switch on and I have to say I was not very impressed with it this year. Not enough Christmas songs, just didn't really get that festive feeling this year unfortunately. Very disappointing 😔
J. M.
A good sized market. 4 or 5 fruit and veg stalls with some really cheap, good quality produce. Open six days a week. Monday to Saturday. Closes around 4pm.
j. e. t.
A good turn out for a very important event. Thank you to the organisers
J. M.
Brilliant fruit and veg
p. M.
I like the market and a great bunch of people but has got smaller in recent years fruit very fresh and veg too love the material stall too
A. W.
It was better in the 70s.
L. f.
Hi great for what you need if not try milton keynes Market fantastic
A. V.
Great place to shop I love buying from.here cloths are within my ranch not too expensive and They do last long. I love everything I have bought from Matalan
S. M.
Not the bustling market it once was, but you can still get a wide selection of goods, including the usual fruit and veg.
WOULD BENEFIT FROM FREE PARKING NBC!
u. w.
Best thing in Northampton... Always lively weekends with fantastic events.. the open market stores are also good and provide fresh groceries at reasonable price...
A.
Not as busy as it used to be, still plenty of fruit and veg at good prices
A. P.
Excellent fruit and veg ae well,as a number of clothes and curiosity stores.
D. p.
It enormously suport people in need.It bring people together to comunitatet. There is different oportunitates for local artist ‘s perfomences withal it is good to be supported. The market place it self is good place for ordinary citizens to make some money for living.
M. S.
THE NEAREST LARGE SUPERMARKET TO WHERE I LIVE. GOOD QUALITY COMPETITIVE PRICES PLEASANT STAFF FREE PARKING.
S. D. S.
Use to be thriving but obviously due to current situation its not. Still good enough tho to visit again.
D. W.
Good stalls not so busy when it's cold, but bustling in the summer, good market food and a couple of pubs.
S. P.
Great place, shame our council doesn't improve the market
M. Č.
The food choice is excellent. Some of it stays fresh, some of it you have to eat quickly. Opens at 7 and for some of us that is too late.
K. H.
the only good thing they really have at the market is different stores open that I would not buy anything from the others when they have the French market there that is the best and the meat van on a Friday
S. M.
Very nice market. Best day to go is Friday and Saturday. Sells all sorts of things from laptops to lace.
C. e.
Love this SM (SuperMarket!!!)
t. l.
Love this place ❤
A. V.
Good market, very strong on the available selection of fruit and veg, when I visited the market also had a full-on funfair and a mini beach going on in market square which my 4 year old loved
D. W.
The market is a great outlet for established and new small business to sell to the public in a cost effective environment.
Fritzy fruit and veg Monday to Saturday for fresher, much lower than Aldi prices and also very helpful if you want to know anything about Northampton history.
Perky Plants horticultural experts a small independant nursery on a Wednesday and Friday. They know a great deal about the plants they cultivate and sell and give helpful and honest advice on which plants need sunlight, shade, water and types of soil. Prices are a quarter of garden centers.
Rutherfords for all types of keys cut, engraving, watch straps including adjustment and much more! Real leather belts that are guaranteed to last for years, and a large selection of scarves and jewelry. Open Tuesday to Saturday
Not sure if its still Free parking for 2 hours weekdays and all day Saturday and Sunday in any of the council owned car parks. The Mayorhold Shoppers car park NN1 3HA., is the nearest 5 minutes walk. Going by bus get off at the North gate Northampton bus station next to the market square.
A. H.
Amazing market places
R. B.
A selection of local stalls offering fruit, veg, computers, butchers and cooked food such as burgers and hot dogs.
P. H.
Believe it or not it's one of the oldest markets in the country hundreds of year's of history. Also, a great place to buy fruit and vegetables.
M. G.
A great market. The veg stalls are very good and cheap for example 3 peppers for a £1 can't argue with that.
N. O. K. M.
You get fresh fruits, vegetables and foods to buy easy for shop around
G. R.
Good facility that Northampton town needs to maintain and provide character. Northampton town centre constantly fails to deliver a range of quality shops to attract to the area and now faces severe competition from over local areas.
M. T.
Nice traditional market. Good selection of stalls but they do vary from day to day. Not that great on a Monday.
t. a.
I absolutely love buy fruit and vegetables there much more cheap and better than normal shopping and seller so much fun
T. M.
Not bad but some phone stalls are a bit dodgy with there prices not showing so dont accept their first price as no product has a price tag
H. M.
Fresh fruit and veg, friendly staffs
S. I.
Nice Fresh Fruit all a pound a bowl. Steak looks nice will try that next time
S. t.
Not a lot going on here but enough to meet some daily needs
W. C. (.
There are some kinds of selling and buying activities. The prices are affordable, people there are very friendly. But there are limited number of shops, about 30 shops, i guess.
G. H.
Great for fruit and veg. Hot dog with onions from the van at the top (near Grosvenor Centre entrance) was good.
R. E.
Excellent market
I normally get all my fruit from here .there is lots of stalls in the market. You can find cell phone ,fruit, clothing, toys, butcher, and food stalls.
A. H.
Stalls selling all sorts of goods, from veggies to suitcases
M. D.
Good to get your fruit and vegetables from as not too much else for sale here on the days I have been here
A. C.
Fruit from stall well priced and burger tasty shame it does not have variety and stalls as used too ..
H. S.
Not what it used to be. Good for fruit and vegetables, Mobile phone unlocking, watch batteries etc. Sometimes has an antique market.
A. B.
Cheap prices for fruits and vegetables. Quality is really good. Staff is active, kind and thankful.
A. P.
Good for fruit or vegs but other stores are there, for example there's a homemade bakery place.
l. c.
Love the fruit and butchers but avoid the ice cream, tiny portion and dripping before they gave it to me
F. O. F.
Great place for groceries. You can almost find something new every day
P. W.
The rooms are good but the restaurant is located in an adjacent pub and frankly it leaves a lot to be desired.
r. s.
Had Almost everything you are looking for
Opened Monday to saturday till 4.30 P.M. Must visit for fresh fruits and vegetables.
N. V.
Ok
n. l.
Always worth a look when I'm in town it's a case of use it or lose it unfortunately
P. S.
The Thursday market is a mixture of a normal market and collectors (/flea) market. A range of stalls to suit a lot of people.
S. R.
Fairly compact market monday and Tuesday is veg & meat for the rest of the week its a mixture of stalls.
E. C.
Okay.... The sun could have been out which would have made my experience in Northampton Town centre that little bit better..... ☺️
S. C.
It lacks variety, there is to many of the same stalls. The market is in much need of a face lift.
A. N.
The UK's largest market square, very friendly vendors, good food available
