They have the best pineapple cottage cheese so I go there almost every lunch time, I buy 2 of them and one flat bread and one bell pepper and have my easy lunch... The store is always tidy and clean but also very cold because of the goodies...

Nice store, well stocked. Guessing when I was there the staff where having a bad day. Needed an item authorising on the till, waited awhile then approached two guys chatting and pointed to the till, guess it was a good conversation as they didn't even acknowledge me and shouted to a young girl staring into her phone to help, still staring into her phone she pushed a few buttons and walked off. I had to call her back as she still hadn't authorised the till. On a plus, it will make me appreciate how good my local staff are.

It's a Sainsbury's! Staff were courteous and helpful when I asked for help finding some products. They appear to have a basket of items on offer which has some interesting (tempting finds). Apart from usual groceries and kiosk, they also have a home section in the back of the store.

Great shop for man-shopping. Back on the street with bag of shopping in under 15 minutes! First rate helpful staff too. Looking for unusual items. E.g. asked staff where to find no-added-sugar chocolate. Fair trade if possible. Not only told me which Aisle, but also took me to the right section and then actually helped me find the right product. Bought several bars of what turned out to be Really Good chocolate. Been back for more!

Security gaurd was bang out a order I got 3 different lovely bread roll and prime smokes salmon 2 quid the salmon bargain n me lunchtime drink and security gaurd come up to me and took my shoppi g off me and told me to leave .. . I give him my shopping and got same again I the next day went and spoke to THE lovely security gaurd and he recommended that I should talk to the manager. And he was very helpful and he was very helpful and at the end of the day he gave me a £5 voucher much appreciated..GREAT SHOP

Friar Street Sainsbury is best in town centre. You will get almost everything thing for daily use. Some times vegetables gets over well before time, stock does not last up till close of the day.

Goodness me, it's not terribly good, is it?! When is all the out-of-order lighting going to be sorted out? After all these years, perhaps they've just decided not to bother! I suppose it's OK for a few daily essentials, and it's got the advantage of having bus stops for a lot of routes right in front.

This Sainsbury's must be one of the oldest, it's always been there and it's the only "supermarket" in town, I suppose the M&S food hall dose come close. The most striking thing about this Sainsbury's is that you can feel the age of the place, it's like a time warp in to the 70s and they sell fresh yeast out of the bakery.

Sainsburys in Friar Street is fine as far as it goes. You will get what you need but not much more. There is always very little choice of fruit later in the day. And there are always ceiling drips which are never repaired. So it will do the job at a pysh but it is far from perfect.

A nice local Sainsbury's that has a reasonable selection but there are often items that they don't stock and are sometimes more expensive than Sainsbury's local or larger Sainsbury's such as the one in Calcot. The closing times are a little strange being 9pm but I can only imagine that's because it's in the centre of Reading and Reading turns into a cesspit at night so they must close early on account of local crime!

A small high street supermarket, it is reasonably well stocked for it's size with a selection of fresh fruit and vegetables, sandwiches, meat, poultry, fish, canned items, small selection of magazines, books and CDs, frozen goods, confectionery, bread (although no in-store bakery), household and cleaning goods, tobacco, alcoholic beverages and health care and beauty items.

It is quite regular for people to either like or dislike a supermarket. But here's the thing - I'm actually very fond of the Sainsbury's in Friar Street. I have the sort of attachment to it that I usually reserve for smaller specialist shops (Oxfam music, Second hand book shops, Nisby's). I think that this is because I first started using it in the 1970s and, after a long period of family life and the inevitable weekly trips to the larger stores, I've returned to it. It is a supermarket in the same sense that the British Leyland Mini is still a car. I'm sure it is still populated by the same people who used it in the 70s (except that their fashion sense has declined even further). Sometimes, when I leave it, I feel that my next stop should be Woolworths. A touch of 'Life on Mars '. I'll leave other reviewers to discuss the merits of its slightly limited range of products but would encourage every tourist to make it part of their itinerary. Culturally, highly recommended.

I was served by an older gentlemen who gave a very old-fashioned service (in a very good way!) He asked me if it was my first time shopping here, chatted about why I was in town and told me their opening hours for the next day in case I needed them. He went above & beyond, and yet I can't imagine he gets any commission recognition. Hats off to you sir.

Its not the biggest Sainsbury supermarket but it is in a good town centre location. A number of local buses stop right outside. Not many of the cheaper own brand products, especially Sainsbury basic products that you can get elsewhere. Reasonable bakery section, and chilled Polish food section. As in so many shops it is uncomfortably cold anywhere near chiller cabinets. And if you go on a Saturday or weekday lunchtime expect to queue.
