Reviews of Shambles Market
J. J.
Had an amazing experience at the Shambles Market. So much to see and shop. Really aesthetic streets. The shops are cute and the shop owners are really friendly. Definitely recommend the hot dogs and coffees at the market. Check out the Harry Potter merchandise stores. Definitely recommend and will go again. 😍
S. M.
Quaint, bustling little place with so much on offer. From confectionery to Harry Potter themed shops, it is truly an enchanting atmosphere. The old, well maintained buildings give a nod to past times and it does feel like walking through a chapter of a novel set in the Victorian era.

Definitely worth a trip here, but it does get very busy!! Lots of great shops and boutiques, some very unique and quirky ones! I love the architecture and the history of the area! There are guides who will walk you about giving you the history. The food area is great with plenty of choice and seating areas. The market stalls are as fab and unique as the shops and are well worth wandering about having a browse.
S. B.
I've wanted to visit this place for quite a while and finally did during the festive season. The market was quite lit, literally and the display of lights added to the fairytale vibe this place is known for.
G. W.
York is a great place to visit. It dose get busy at times, but we always have a good time. Its well worth watching the street performer's near the Chocolate Factory especially the one with the six foot unicycle.
K. S.
Love all of York but there's something very special about the Shambles area. It's like stepping back in time to walk the same streets that have been walked for hundreds of years. Haven't been since I was 11 so it was great to return 40 years later and see how little has changed.
c. W.
Had a great visit to The Shambles and York Minster. Beautiful town. Get there at opening time if your visiting The shop that shall not be named and The York Ghost Merchants as they are very popular.
r. t.
Busy area full of tourists like us , even on Friday ! This is a good place to spend time , a lot to see and shop . Lots of street food to try . Shops selling Harry Potter's souvenirs were full of ppl
And needs to line up a long time. There was a long queue for the Ghost tour as well.
L. D.
Find a stand in the market that sells bagels. The shopkeeper is very friendly and will give you a lot of sliced beef and salads. The beef medium rare is very chewy, you can taste the strong fennel and pepper flavors, paired with sour pickles, and the aroma of sesame particles bursting in your mouth. yummy yummy😍
c. p.
An amazing step back in time. With all the shops you can dream of accompanied by small bakeries and small businesses lining the small cobbled walk walks. It's a truly amazing place
M.
Great little Historic place. Loved all the little shops. It's hit & miss with the que's sometimes there big sometimes there not so bad. We went about 10am and found about 7 people in the que. Took about 20 minutes to get in.
E. P.
Beautiful small street full of delightful shops. In the square in the back you have the market where you can give find everything. It reminds me a bit the Spitalfields market in London a bit. There is also a nice italian restaurant with delicious food and friendly atmosphere. 😋 If you are a fan of Harry Potter you'll be spoil.
T. S.
A good market with a good range of stalls. Had the best steak pies from the butchers stall that i have had for along time. Well worth visiting. The photos are of the actual shambles which is next to the market.
G. G.
Loved the shambles and the market. Full of quirky stalls and shops.
It holds so much character and is full of history and spooky tales.
V.
Excellent market! All the stolls are different and plenty of things to see. The food aroubd the market centre is pretty good too! Its an excellent Christmas shopping experience too!
W. J.
Been wanting to visit for some time now and I was not disappointed, the whole atmosphere of the place was amazing and we shall definitely be revisiting in the future
B.
Lovely olde world feel to the area. Interesting buildings and a open square filled with stalls selling lots of things. You will also find great food stalls selling tasty food. If you're visiting York, this is a must place to visit. Highly recommended!
D. R.
Touristy market next to The historic Shambles. Plenty of hats, leather bags and general tourist trap stuff for sale.
Worth a visit if you are in the area, but not in my top 5 street markets.
S. D.
Had a fabulous day in York yesterday, visited the Shambles also the market and food court, food was amazing, then a walk along Yorks famous Wall, a bite to eat at Witherspoon's then home on the train. 5⭐
t. m.
What an absolute joy to fund Street food of this quality and a market oozing history and shining in quantability superb well worth the visit
c. m.
Very nice and cute place. Loved the area and York it's self. All the street food places were amazing and served some brilliant food. Will be back again soon.
D. B.
Love the overall feel of the place, especially the cheese stall, Moo York Deli, it made a visiting expat feel truly welcome!
C. G.
It's very fun but very crowded! There was the little street looks like in the Harry Potter movie where Harry went to buy all his magical needs( Diagon Alley:-)
D. M.
Beautiful and well kept must visit street in York.
Real shame that all such streets elsewhere have been demolished in the name of progress. Absolutely criminal.
Packed as always but lots of character
A. D.
Went to York with wife as a short Anniversary break. We both loved walking around, seeing the shops and the Christmas market. If you get the chance go see the Shambles and the rest of York.
H. L.
Shambles market in York. It’s been a while and it’s changed since I last visited. Bigger food eating area. Novel gift and craft stalls. Clean open space. Lovely day out as always
J. R.
Unreal! Just so cool and so worth a day trip just to come see this little narrow street with some cool looking old buildings from the 1400's
B.
The shops have good displays in the windows. You are then curious to see what's inside the shops. Good selection on candy and eats
S. N.
Very beautiful cobble streets and great eating place. Lot of variety and festive.Must visit if going to York
K. H.
Great, classic market. Not many places have markets like this anymore.
There's a great food market too, with local food stalls.
Really enjoyed it.
D. W.
Brilliant selection of stalls. Right in the heart of the old buildings. Stunning.
l. m.
Love all the historic buildings
Old fashioned shops and cobbled streets
Loads lovely pubs
A. R.
Very picturesque part of the city and holds many little shops and things to see.
A. T.
The beauty of this place exists in the few old building very well preserved from old times when York was fully walled city . It is the essence of this place and it is wonderful to have it in contrast with modern times . Wandering this little streets makes me wanna go back in time and see the life of people who were living here . The old markets , different clothing , different culture , different people . This is a treasure of this city and you have to visit .
C. J.
Great place to hang out with, awesome street food, display area, shops and what not. The Shop that must not be named is a not to be missed for all Potter Heads!
M. V.
A quaint and historically interesting area to walk around. Visit the Viking museum
W. L.
Very busy and popular street, it's definitely worth a visit. I would advise to come here early.
L. A.
The outdoor market is always worth a visit. Great produce on offer. Stopped for lunch in the lovely historical building, Gert and Henry's. Used to be a pub but is more of a restaurant now. The place has no atmosphere. Red lamps and red fairy lights look awful. Lunch for four of us was £80+ and pretty average. Tired salad with a dried up slice of orange??? No butter on the jacket potato and a spoonful of prawns in mayo. The other meals were hardly outstanding. Poor background music. Staff doing their job and little else. This place could be the soul of the market but needs serious remodelling .
J. P.
Lots of interesting market stalls and little olde worlde shops down narrow cobbled streets.
E. B.
A Brilliant opportunity to purchase from local crafters, makers, artists and businesses here in York! Throughout the week you have independent traders selling their wares. Its a great opportunity to pick up a handmade souvenir from your visit to York, pick up a seasonal gift or just treat yourself to something unique.
The Shambles Market is an incredibly friendly, supportive market with food and coffee vendors also local traders. If there was ever a great place to spend your pennies and support local people, this is the place to be!

D. W.
Very atmospheric shopping experience, like traveling back in time. Make sure you visit the York ghost shop
A. F.
A superb collection of shops in an olde-worlde setting.
Mostly shops you've never seen before.
Very busy and lots of people wishing for attractions but definitely worth a visit
K. H.
Shambles market York is a great place to visit.
It has the York Ghost Merchant shop, Harry Potter Shops, Christmas Shop, Gin & cocktail shops, Food & Sweets Galore!!
Theirs plenty to see , do & eat
E. S.
Interesting shops from teas to groceries or gifts. Beautiful small streets!!!
A. D.
Always too busy with tourists, but worth fighting your way through. Must be one of the oldest streets anywhere in Britain. The old over-hanging buildings are the main attraction rather than the actual shops. It runs alongside the market too which has good food stalls now and seating.
S. K.
Quirky, quaint shopping area of York full of lots of independent shops. Gets very busy though, we walked around on a Sunday evening when the shops were closed to get a feel for the place, it was lovely, very atmospheric. Big difference to the Monday morning when the crowds hit!! Lots of eateries so you won't go hungry!! A must go to place in York!
S. B.
What a beautifully preserved piece of history. Relieved the era walking down the narrow cobbled Street where the houses are so close to each other that you can actually shake hands through the windows. The ancient hooks which were used to hang meat are still there if you look closely
The street itself is lined with gift shops, sweet and treat shops and even a York Ghost Shop!! The Harry Potter shop and the Potion shop (along with potion making experience) is really popular with children and adults alike. A must visit on your trip to York.
K. C.
It such a magical street, we loved going there.
E. B.
Absolutely legendary. Particularly liked the New York Cheesecake Guy shop - a New Yorker in Old York, baking and selling superb cheese cakes (baked, not set!). The whole street is magnificent and so are the adjacent areas. For contrast, visit in the evening and then the next day 😀
G. C.
must visit for anyone in york
really nice food, with a wide range of options
J. G.
Busy busy busy all over York yesterday but well worth a visit.
Wife bought a lovely sun hat.
We got fresh vegetables and fruit.
Found a nice selection of leather bags and wallets great choice and price
M. H.
The shambles market is always a great place to visit, half the stalls are now gone and replaced with food vendors, not a bad thing....if you can't wait to get to hundreds of other eateries!!!. It used to be the case that if you wanted something the market would have it, now unless you need a hat or a bag, some spuds you're knackered. Shame really, still worth a visit but it's nothing like it used to be.
P. G.
Well worth a visit, step back in time
L. M.
Busy and hectic!
Absolutely mahem.
Ques down the road for various shops but a must see when in York.
Various shops and things to see for everyone. Highly reccomend
d. r.
Wonderful shops in this marvellous wee street, on the other hand there is a market called the shambles market and on this market if you are a gin lover is a wonderful small distillery called fairytale gin, go and try them so nice to be able to taste before ypu buy
t. b.
The shops in the shambles are great and worth walking through while your in town
G. H.
York is always a fantastic place for a day trip. There is everything to see, a place where history comes to life. Really you need quite a few visits to see what York is all about. The Shambles and surrounding streets is only one day were shopping is concerned. (BRILLIANT)
J. C.
Classic market street, very cute and lovely shops.
B.
Nice to see an original part of England attempted to be kept original .
康.
Well lovely city, absorbing in the movie scenery.
H. R.
The flower stall is really lovely, great prices. There's also a great range of street food. There are a couple of stalls selling knock off bags, belts ect which ruins the vibe a bit.
P. B.
Great food and great service from a very friendly lady.
Hotdogs were freshly prepared and we were given a buzzer that works around the entire market to tell us when our food was ready.
Tasty, lots of toppings, what’s not to like?
S. Q.
Great for a walkabout. Lovely day out when the sun shines. Historic places and a feel of oldy worldy. Highly recommend
C.
Vendors were friendly, some stall's goods felt overpriced, but you can find some good deals and unique items if you keep your eyes open.
It has wide walkways so it didn't feel super crowded or congested.
R. C.
So many lovely little shops, It's York's answer to Diagon Alley.
M. B.
Is a very interesting market located in the centre of the city of York it has a limited spaces for shopping and hardware and fresh vegetables are available too . Sadly it’s not easy to park nearby and one has to walk to the venue or use public transport but. Needs must I suppose .
C. B.
Cool spot to shop for Harry Potter fans
N. V.
It is a famous part of the old town of York. Old buildings beautiful preserved .
D. C.
Great place been here a few times now and will come again
C. S.
Loved the many stalls, lots of different items to see and purchase.
D. S.
Fave place for lunch as there are plenty of options which covers everything if you're out with friends. And btw the new Donner Summers stand has amazing vegan food!!
M. C.
WOW! Has to be one of the best market's I have ever been to, the stalls change every day, and the food stalls are amazing. PS: Best bacon butty in York.
p. f.
A fun place to explore in York. Crowded with people wanting to see the buildings made famous by the Harry Potter films. Yet the narrow lanes contain a wealth of niche shops and eating places.
V. W.
It's always very busy. But it's a beautiful place. I love the deep historic vibes it gives. The city in general is absolutely beautiful
H. T.
Absolutely worth a visit. There is so much to see and do. Loads of places to eat and drink. Will definitely be going back. Xx
T. C.
I enjoyed strolling around.
Sometimes I got lost finding the different places I needed to be.
People who I asked were friendly.
I did not see many signs up for the different places I needed to be.
Flat shoes a must over the cobblestones.
S. S.
Best place to go for watch straps, and batteries fitted. Excellent service and super price . The jewellery stalls are great too.
l. A. (.
Absolutely amazing stalls, best market I've been to yet. Also pretty well layed out and near scenic places, plenty of places to eat too
A. M.
A quaint street with a medieval feel and inspired Harry Potter. A mix of shops and stalls, mostly for the tourist crowd. A must for visitors.
P. P.
its lovely walking around the area as it’s full of historical buildings, cobbled street surround the market place. Some yummy street food stalls worth a try!
j. e.
Rather disappointing. Lots of stalls but nothing out of the ordinary.
P. W.
Fantastic place for coffee and sticky treats, lots to see and do, a vast array of shops and stalls well worth a visit any time of the year,
L. H.
Lots of stalls selling a good variety of gifts, plants, gin, collectable and clothing. Always a warm welcome from the traders there.
J. C.
I adore the Shambles as a whole, great food, a wide selection of stores and many wonderful people.
Yes some of the prices are higher than you'd expect from a market but to be fair, it's York you come to expect that.
M. W.
The Shambles Market is a tourist destination, with plenty of tourist traps. The spots that are tourist traps are still fun and can easily be avoided. Despite it's tourist heavy population and ridiculous ques for anything that has a hint of Harry Potter, the Shambles is still an amazing place to walk around and see things you may have never seen anywhere else on the planet. The history is thick here, both british and viking. The food is amazing. The shops are fantastic. The biggest problem right now is the people. There is a reason that covid is sweeping through England, people are not wearing masks and are huddling close together with strangers in pubs. Maybe skip the Shambles this year, but put it on your list of places for a non-pandemic year.
D. W.
Crowded but lovely!
E. A.
Beautiful little place. Lots of lovely little shops/ stalls. Worth a walk around.
W. W.
We only stopped for coffee at a van here but the people were really friendly and the coffee was done as we liked.
M. U.
With the Xmas market in full swing and the shambles market full of the usual goodies as well as good food a trip to York is well worth it at the moment
S. H.
All around the Shambles Market area are period buildings, narrow roadways and cobbled streets. There is plenty og interesting features and Craft shops, coffee shops and hot food are in plentiful supply, with a scattering of pubs, a lovely area to hang out.
N. R.
Oh my goodness, yes. Amazing market stalls with local produce, just brilliant.
O. T.
It's a juice little area, has its stands which don't change and I'm grateful for but then also has stands which change quite a lot and brings more well needed diversity into the market.
It's an ideal place to browse, sit down and have a nice meal or just to get a bite on the go. All the staff seem friendly and it's usually not horribly busy
R. L.
Love this place, the girls are always friendly and have a smile on their faces. I recommend everyone pays it a visit for £7.50 you tell me where you can get quality fresh food that will put a smile on your face and fill you up
s. m.
Lovely to meander around, a large variety of shops, bars, and restaurants in a realatively compact area. Well worth a visit !
W. O.
Not a market of old but things to spend a while and a few good shops. There's a very decent cafe serving a lovely bacon sandwich.
H. O.
Very quaint. I got some gorgeous candles from Berry Handcrafted and my favourite thing I own, a gorgeous vintage Jean jacket with a handpainted design from A Clockwork Orange on the back. You'll know the stall if you see it, she's there Sundays and Mondays. Highly recommend
J. H.
Just good fun their was a band on singing a pogues song fairy tale in new York, brilliant evening had by all
I. L.
Beautiful old street, nice selection of stalls on the market, I enjoyed wondering around, but not the biggest market
C. M.
Lovely place, also found diagon alley
J. S.
What a Shambles! l loved this quirky street. Cobblestones, quirky shops, hardly a right angle anywhere to be seen. To see York you simply MUST visit this famous area. I was not able to get the photo I wanted, but had to make do with one when it was quite busy. I suggest that you visit when no one else is around to get photo later on the evening when the shops are all closed . Maybe I will be able to visit again and grab that elusive snapshot.
S. C.
Lovely part of York city, with great old buildings shops and cafes. Also the shambles outdoor market is great
S. D.
Great all round street market with a good selection of independent stalls.
If you want a handbag this is the place to go. Such a large selection. Various street food also available.
Close to the Shambles which is a wonderful place to spend a hour or two.
C. M.
Such a quaint shopping area. Love the cobbled streets and the historic feel of the place.
c. k.
Go very early morning and enjoy the buildings
A. W.
Shambles market is definitely worth a visit. It has a great selection of stalls but the best bit is the food. There's food stalls from all over the world and they're all good. It's usually busy but it has a great atmosphere
S. B.
No place is more Christmasy than York. Shambles market doing a roaring trade and don't forget to pop into pivni pub for mulled cider!
L. W.
A must see for history lovers. Few wooden medieval structures remain in Britain, what with wars and fires, both accidental and deliberately set. This short stretch is all period. The street is so narrow, and the second floors built out over the road so they are so close one could pass a note from one house to the other. Although it was originally where animals were slaughtered, and likely unpleasant, it is now all interesting, quirky small shops and restaurants. Cobbled road and narrow stairways make it inaccessible if you are wheelchair bound
K. Y.
A very lovely place just to walk around and enjoy the mix of modern and old type buildings and architecture. Quirky...
T. H.
Wonderfully unique and full of character. If you like geeky shops, lovely independent market stalls and beautiful dessert/sweet shops, this is definitely the place for you.
It's also steeped in history, having been a renowned butchers street once upon a time, as well as the location for many spooky story, as discovered during a ghost tour.
T. S.
A top tourist traction in york steeped in history and now hope to fabulous range of shops and eating places and right next to the open market.
V. R.
Mexican for lunch, great variety of foods available. Some cater for vegan dietary requirements but sadly only Mexican catered for gluten free. Having said that the food was amazing!
A. H.
Sadly, it is a little overrun with tourists and tourist trap shops. There are prettier streets in York. I would recommend going to the chocolate shop and the bakery!
A. J.
Visiting York during the summer is quite nice! I strolled around the Shambles Market with my friend and we saw an amusing talent show. Shambles Market contains food street vendor and etc, it’s a place that is nice to visit during vacation. You will also easily find the seller of Yorkshire pudding. And there’s a Harry Potter shop too!
T. Z. H. H.
Beautiful historic street. Lots of quirky shops. The food court and the market out the back has some lovely places to grab some world street food. I would like a bit more time here. Will definitely visit again next time I'm in York.
A. A.
The shambles is an overpriced and busy street that looks nothing like it does in pictures.
If you want the iconic street photo you'll be waiting until early hours of the morning to get it.
There's only two stores worth a visit those being the ghost merchants and the bread store
S. a.
Lovely little shopping place. Love it, the old buildings and so much detail and history.
P. B.
Nice place to visit if you're going to the Shambles. Its a bit cheaper than the main thoroughfare and had some great food outlets. Definitely worth a visit if the crowds along the Shambles are getting too heavy! 👍🏻
D. P.
We slways go here when in York , it has a charm all of its own with small shops and a good market near by
J. S.
Shambles market is brilliant with lots of clothing, handbags, home tech and best of all, excellent fast food outlets. I can safely say I had the best hot dog ever at the speciality hot dog outlet.
A. G.
Just a nice place to walk through with lots of opportunities for a coffee tea or drink.
T. B.
Lovely architecture, cool lil shops and some great food.
R. k.
Interesting, plenty to see, varied shops, markets and eateries.
C. M.
Stam & Maria have the most delicious authentic Greek food. my favourite is the vegetarian wrap, the bread is fresh, light and tasty. I prefer arriving hearly to avoid the queue, anyway expect to wait at least 20 minutes. it is worth it!
P. J.
Had this 'Yorkie Dog' in the market, great dawg.
Lots of choice in this area of different types of cuisine so most tastes will be catered for. Places to sit and eat under canvas tents so out of the sun (haha) or rain.
I.
Beautiful market. I love going down to England as they have great town markets, and York is no different. Great shops mostly individual not big cooperations.
S. A.
Such a beautiful place, street food, jewellery, gifts for everyone.
a. r.
Love York shambles so many options to eat from the street food vendors. Our go to places are Taylor made kitchen food truck, Nana noodle bar and Krep artisan crepe shop.
Wonderful place to treat yourself after a lovely walk on the city walls.
G. M.
Amazing Cobbled Street in York City Centre with lots of very interesting shops. A "must visit" place when in York.
M. B.
One of the best open markets in England, from basics, hats, handcrafted decorations, flowers and good food. Plus right next to the Shambles street, which has the potter-themed shops. Never disappoints.
S. A.
Great selection of stalls plus a variety of places to eat
S.
Nice little market in York. The stalls range from clothes, bags to sweets and lots of tat.
There's plenty of food wagons around too with a very nice doughnut stall.
Be warned though... it can be very busy especially as it is just off the street, "the shambles" or diagon Alley as its called in Harry Potter Potter that whole street is mega busy which forces some people to break off into the market area.
V. W.
Lovely market, good place for lunch with a good variety of food to choose from. We had Thai and it was wonderful.
York is a lovely city with good park and ride service
M. H.
I like this open market. Craft and sale of clothes, watches, wallets, hats etc. Food fruit veg, fish and meat.
G. F. (. P.
Historic and lovely. Only problem is it gets very busy but I guess that's what you'd expect in a city. Lots of lovely and quirky shops.
S. C.
You can find various type of food accross the world
W. A. D.
Named shambles but definitely not a shambles! Loads of different stalls including horns mead all kinds of food stalls. A must is the Greek wrap delicious !! Plenty to buy.
O. F.
Got some cute souvenirs at the market and my favorite stop was the Harry Potter’s store.😉
M. M.
Brilliant old street one of the oldest shopping streets in Europe sadly I wouldn't recommend going down the street if you have angsty or mobility issues if that been walking or in an wheelchair the street is quiet tite lots of people and cobbled street this is prior to Harry Potter shops opening up which is brilliant for Harry Potter fans all about but please remember to pre book as cues are all over some lovely old shops down there even all year round Christmas shops an brilliant market on haswell selling an large vority of goods from classic frout and veg to bags and high end products worth the look
N. B.
Nice shops, crowded street - if you don't want to have to use a magic eraser on your photos, then arrive early.
The Ghost Merchant will likely have a long line if that's where you are headed (or if you are wondering what people are queuing up for).
B. W.
Nice market!! Worth to visit. Great food also can get, tried the Hotdog and pizza wrap.
B. H.
A lovely market with lots of interesting craft stalls and different food stalls. We will return soon.
M. S.
Despite this being in the heart of a city where the roses are entirely the wrong colour, it is one of the finest people watching opportunities in the world. From over excited Harry Potter obsessed tourists to orange painted people who dress without mirrors, it is marvelous.
p. e.
Take ur self back 800 yrs and shop in the market or the famous butcher Street where 25 butchers displayed and dissected there joints of meat , the building's are a joy to look at, if your visiting York then this is a must do
R. A.
Lovely to bimble around some of the ‘normal’ market tat, but many independent traders. Not overly cramped. Lots of places to eat so look around before you decide.
D. P.
Beautiful, nothing else to say.
C. H.
Nice town plenty of shops open and lots of stalls. Street performers. All kinds going on well worth the visit.
l. f.
It was wonderful a lovely little find, lots of open air space to eat and lots of choice of street food. We had Thai it was tasty and good value for money
P. C.
One of my favourite areas in York. Interesting shops but was very busy
C.
Some great little shops and stalls. Interesting area.
E. G.
Great place to visit.
D. T.
Beautiful architecture and lots on offer. We'll worth a visit.
G. L.
Fantastic love the place Harry potters home lol
I. L.
Beautiful place to visit with so many shops, and quirky places to visit
P. j. S.
Many outlets as well as street food eatery's vast range of thing to buy from clothing to antiques to gifts plenty to see with a superb atmosphere
F. A.
Got a new watch battery from me watch kiosk, excellent service, they took just 5 minutes to give me a new battery for a £5 note, can't get better than that!
D. D. C. C.
Beautiful market, lovely stalls a good choice of stalls all selling unique items. Loved it going back soon.
S. B.
I have loved this street since I was a child. The narrow cobbled street is as enchanting as the the Elizabethan houses with their uneven timber frames, some of which date back to the fourteenth century. If you are a Harry Potty fan, you can also find 'The Shop with no name' on this street, where you can find wizard essentials and souvenirs.
E. W.
Vibrant outdoor market with a vast variety of stalls selling everything you can imagine! Definitely worth a visit if checking out the Shambles street itself!
I. H.
Picterqeuse market place with many bespoke shopping experiences!

Nice place to wander through. Coffee offered on one of the stalls was excellent
T. O. T.
As always a good assortment of stalls at the market . Always helpful at trying to get you what you want . T shirt stall had a nice lady who got us some special sizes in for the following week when we returned . All covered stalls so if mother nature plays tricks then you can keep dry or when lucky you can keep in the shade . A few nice food stalls . We settled on burgers from the van . A nice little seating area for us too. Or if your partial to a bit of booze then pubs around the market as well.

Very old street in the heart of York, near York Minster. A must see place, but be aware of the crowd during th day - everyone who visits York, also visits the Shambles. There a lots of pubs near-by if you want to take a rest. The shops on the Shambles are unique.
L. G.

Shambles is a very beautiful market with nice cafes, street food, local businesses and shopping cheaper than other towns/cities.

This market is located very central the stalls are very tired with low end market goods. However the small eating café s and stalls are very nice and delayed for a snack and coffee.
The fruit traders are very friendly and funny
A. b. F.

An amazing, touristy market in York.
It is a must visit for all Harry Potter Fans as it resembles Diagon Alley (even though JK Rowling denies it, the resemblance is obviously).

Very well preserved and looked after piece of history in a beautiful city! Full of independent artists and variety of Street food. Some of the shops are s jewel. Many others are very touristic and do not offer much to the whole picture though as you can find them anywhere else in England.

Z. Y.
Love this part of York, beautiful little shops with a really good Market 👍🏻
S. T.
You always get a warm welcome at the Gladstone Theatre!! The staff are fantastic and the venue always has great prices and drinks/ice cream costs are reasonable and not a eip off.
The seats are comfy and sturdy but very low down however due to the height of the stage, views aren't obscured!!
The size if the venue always makes the night feel like an intimate onward the theatre hosts pro and am dram shows for all tastes. Local theatre school shows are always very professional and a good watch.
Amenities are clean and modern (disabled and ladies are anyway). There is a small cobbled car park out back and is 2 mins walk from Port Sunlight train station. There's on street parking in surrounding areas which does not incur a charge (I think, anyway, I'm always early and park in the car park!!).
There is disabled access to the front.
A cracking little theatre.
W. P.
A must see tourist attraction, a friendly smile awaits for everyone visiting this mysterious city
S. H.

Starting to come back to life and slowly having all the hustle and bustle that is associated with the Shambles. A quaint place of history with its old fronted shops and cobbled streets. Nice to see things returning back to normal.

Great little market, and amazing street food. Pop along the Shambles and find the alleyway that leads you down to the market.
P. D.
The Shambles market area & the Shambles itself is just like stepping into Diagon Alley in the Harry Potter films. Old world buildings, nestled in tightly in the streets, plenty for everyone. Some of the buildings have the history listed, of what they were used as many hundreds of years ago. Definitely worth a visit if you are in York.
N. H.

Brilliant place, loved the two days I spent there
S. S.
Lively place to spend good time and located at city centre. There are about 10 good stalls, we tried at 3 stalls and food is really good and worth the money. Please do try the crepes stall and the Greek food stall, we loved it. There are also some stalls where we can do shopping for bags, dresses and jewellery.
S. A.

J. P.
Great place to visit and eat, had a great day.
C. W.
Great variety and value for money. The construction work us making it look untidy thus dropped a star.
K. G.
Loads to see and buy. A new thing for me was the Oriental food stalls have people encouraging you to buy. Helping you make a choice. I found that useful, and when I decided not to try their products there wasn't anything pressure. There market has a great atmosphere
K. F.

a. f.

Very difficult to gauge as it is a boutique style hotel in Paris and this means everything is small. Regardless about the size the hotel is just around the corner from the Arc de Triomphe, close to a variety of restaurants and bakeries, a small supermarket is close and access to the Champs is about 5 minutes away. Breakfast is the basic French style with coffee, bagels, pastries and bread. Cereal is also available. Overall it is a nice hotel perfectly situated to the main attractions and rail service. For most it may seem expensive but given that you can walk to most sites life the Louvre and Eiffel tower I guess this means you save on travel. My only complaint was the elevator it is so small and can take only one person and 3 suitcases, I had to run up the stairs to the 4th floor but then I should be a little thankful it kept me fit.
K. c.
Very quirky, very interesting and a excellent shopping experience. Hard on the feet mind you.
L. K.
Loved York lots of little side streets to explore had a good day there .
E.

Luckily weather not good, so not many people around. Lots of unique little shops.
G. C.
Typical and rustic market, with lots of places serving world's food
J. G.
Good assortment of stalls - reasonably priced, nice folk
g. s.
Had a quick look nothing different to any other market
G. W.
The market is a great place, but the gents toilets are a disgrace they need a good clean.40p to go into a smelly loo robbery!
R. p. L.
Great place to visit, quaint little atmospheric shops with great shop keepers. Keep up the great work.
A.
Fantastic place. We were in York for the weekend. We went both days and there were different traders on each day so well worth going more than once. Bought some delicious 'sugar plum fairy' gin. Delicious!

A must visit when in York a selection of food products from Yorkshire, hand made sweets, hats, bags, qerky items and bar available.
M. T.
Shambles market is great, something for everyone. Went in December and was very chrismassy. Lots of stalls with lots of choice and even street entertainers to keep you amused. Was at same time as main York Xmas market so was a really busy day!
D. S.
Loved the history of the area.Shame so many bag stalls.
S. T. R. N.
Fabulous fun! Great brownies, meat filled crepes, music and festive fun as well as fake snow blowers... Gotta love York and it's city council!

R. W.
Some lovely street food
J. W.
Should visit if in York we'll worth a look round
J. R. (.
An absolutely fantastic opportunity to find one of a kind objects, clothing, jewellery and bits and bobs. Great atmosphere even under COVID 19 restrictions. Really nice people around the area. Some really nice finds for extremely reasonable prices. I would recommend to anyone who loves discovering unique and/or vintage bits and pieces. A couple of my finds below.
j. r.
Beautiful place and good fast food
A. L.
Great market really adds to the feel of the city. Janurelle hand made soaps are a particular hidden gem trading on Saturdays, Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays! Keep an eye out.
G. M.
Small market area behind The Shambles with variety of independent stalls, some changing during week. You can buy anything from fruit and fresh meat to local alcohol and Viking horns. Great street food area as well.
P. H.
What a great place set in a very historic centre, great atmosphere, great shops, so many pubs and coffee houses among modern shops..

J. B.
Very good place to mingle for when you're hungry (Antonio's pizzoli is the best!) especially when you're tired on your feet and need a rest - lots of seating.
j. E. r.
Loved it! It spans a few streets really nice craft style market not overly expensive a bit of all sorts including street food. On a good day weather wise always fun to walk round there are some very nice stalls and the ones you would want guot and veg etc. I bought from the fishmonger two very good crabs a a very reasonable price so when I am in York again... I know where I am heading!
J.
Beautiful shops and a great market. Very very busy and no room for social distancing so just be aware of that when you visit. York is a stunning city though!
G. O.
A very crowded place but very interesting .
d. k.
Really quaint and lovely shops and very pleasant sales customers 😊
M. W.
Fantastic old Roman's cobble paths and alleyways. Lovely place to visit and stay. Everybody must visit Guy Fawkes Inn opposite the York Minister.
M. T.
Lovely fun market with nice range of stalls in a lovely location
D. G.
Great place for street food and very reasonably priced.
e. d.
Like stepping into Diagon Alley, it was like a dream!
R. C.
This is a good location to look at in york but as a resident I tend to avoid it. It's good the first few times but it's extremely crowded and I've got to say- not at all good for social distancing with Covid... far too small and the number of tourists on the street at one time isn't controlled and gets very packed.
D. B.
Very historic and colourful area worth a visit.
H. A.
An amazing place with goods from all four corners of the globe. You can buy anything!
c.
If you want to experience local history the this is the street with lot's to find out.
Including cobbled roads

This is very interesting street, reminds something from fairy tales or Harry Potter.

Very popular busy narrow cobbled streets with plenty to see, do, eat and buy from.
S. J.
Always worth a visit for a few bargains.
I. C.
Great shopping right in the heart of Medieval York. Great experience with bargains to be had.
S. R.
Lovely market nice selection of food and drinks.
T. C.
Lots of shops there. But nothing special. Lots of shops were closed on Sunday.
R. J.
Buzzling with people...enjoying their picks..nice....a market is worth if frequented by people
C.
Great location in the centre of York, surrounded by side streets lined with independent shops. The market had the types of stalls you get at a market but with the addition of several food stalls selling Indian, Thai, Mexican, french crepes and lots of other foods from around the world. 👍😁
M. R.
Great atmosphere and the main shambles street looks like diagon alley from Harry Potter, great tourist area. The shops are great down the main street and the markets also really nice due to it's history. I went during level 3 restrictions which meant places could only serve outdoors and due to the narrow streets it was challenging. The markets got some great food but it's quite costly and the quality of goods is mediocre.
S. C.
Thai food good hot day everyone enjoyed it
