Quality leather craftsmanship.Bought an expensive belt and needed an extra hole put in(i wasn't taking this to any leather shop) this wasn't an ordinary hole more like a teardrop. The guy(sorry forgot your name dude)done a few test runs on some spare bits of leather,showed me the results,he was happy to proceed and so was i.End result was perfect you couldnt notice the difference from the other holes. He didnt even charge me,how rare is that in this world. Thank you very very much.

I will echo what others have said... if you want something special, something one of a kind that is personally made by true artisans, this is the place to look. I came across Simon and the Mackenzie brand several years ago by accident on a trip with my sister to Edinburgh and we found our way to what was then a private studio, unknowingly, and closed at the time. Simon met us there the next day and that was the start of my love affair with his amazing work. We bought several finished bags and I ordered a custom bag (a beautiful wine color rucksack that he changed into a shoulder bag) that arrived several weeks later when I was back in the states. Since then, Simon has opened a shop on St. Mary's St. and hired other artisans, so glad to see the shop grow. My husband purchased a Gladstonette last fall as an anniversary gift to me when he visited Edinburgh and we just returned from Edinburgh where I ordered a Town Bag that will be coming in the months ahead. You can buy ready-made pieces at the shop or can order custom pieces in the colors and linings available and they are happy to show you options if given some direction in color. These are not cheap, mass-produced items -- you are paying for unique, quality pieces that will last for generations and priced accordingly. As you can tell, I'm a big fan and would highly recommend Mackenzie if you want to treat yourself to something special that you won't see coming-and-going. Thank you, Mackenzie team!

I recently purchased one of their briefcases (The Edinburgh) as a gift for my wife to be shipped to us in the USA. Simon Potts and his team were extremely accommodating to make sure that the briefcase, which was a gift, arrived by our anniversary. The briefcase is so gorgeous that now I am wanting one for myself. It is stylish, durable, and just looks high-quality in every way possible. There were many considerations that had to be made, including materials, colors, other options, shipping, etc., and Simon personally answered all of my questions with enough detail to make me feel comfortable that I was getting the right thing without being able to see it. I couldn’t be happier with my entire experience. I can only hope that someday I will be able to visit their factory store in Scotland, and I know my wife would love to as well! Excellent bespoke handmade leather. I ordered a saddle bag in November, my husband bought me for a birthday present :) the staff were excellent and very helpful. I got to choose the exact piece of leather and the colour of the brass work. they made it up to my specification and sent it out in three weeks. I will definitely be back next birthday :)

I live in Atlanta, Ga. I bought my first tote bag from Mackenzie in 2002 on a trip to Edinburgh. I'm still using it. A few years later, I bought a bag there for my son's female friend and business partner. A couple of years ago, I decided to simplify my life and stop buying purses every year. I got in touch with Simon and he made me a winter bag and sent it to my home. This spring, I decided to have a summer bag made. All three of my Mackenzie bags are wonderful, sturdy, and unique. I selected the leather, the style, the lining material and the hardware for my two custom-made bags. Nobody has anything like them. The work is meticulous. If I ever need another bag, I will go to him again, but I think these will last forever.

A rare gem and an absolute pleasure. MacKenzie Leather is everything you would want from a shopping experience, but is far too hard to find in a world swamped with cheap, fast, disposable products. My story..... Couple of years ago whilst sitting on the bus to go to the pub (in Durham, my home town) I detected a strong smell of leather, I had to investigate. Guy in front had a leather briefcase on the seat next to him so as we say "shy bairns get nowt" had to ask him about it. He purchased it from Mackenzie in Edinburgh. He then gave me a thorough guided tour of his bag. I was in, hook line and sinker as this is the best quality piece of leather apparel I have ever seen ! Told the wife, and by coincidence we were spending a few days in Edinburgh to celebrate my 50th birthday so tracked the shop down to St Mary's street and paid a visit. What a fantastic place, with the most compassionate guys who explained leather to me, and showed us how they were made and all the variations that were possible. Told him my story to how we ended up here and not on this occasion but today my wife purchased her proper "bag for life" the traditional saddle bag. Shes absolutely thrilled to bits. Please guys, if you dont even want a leather bag, go visit these passionate craftsmen and see what they can produce, from keyrings, belts, wallets and some of the finest bags you will ever see. I have purchased Mackenzie goods for over 20 years because they make products of a quality I just cant find anywhere else. They use top quality hides, and excellent Scottish craftsmanship ( and I use that term in its proper meaning ) to produce beautiful, long lasting products at the prices of similar but grossly inferior products. In addition they offer a repair service and guarantee, so that should you have problems your bags can be repaired. Words are easy, but if you want goods you can plan to pass on to descendants, after many years of great service then you are looking at the right company.

The thing that sold me on it was when I asked the salesperson in the shop, who really knew his wares very well, how long it would last me. Excellent materials with personalized finishings. Better than any name brand that use marketing tricks on factory produced items. I would come here again. Craftsmen work in the back and shop is in the front. You see rolls of leather and bags being made right in front of you.
