I recently had the chance to spend a day with Imtaz on a pattern cutting course after a decision to re-ignite my interest in dressmaking. In the space of four hours, Imtaz taught me the skills of how to create and adapt patterns to make the fabric fit perfectly (and the importance of pressing!). Imtaz is a fantastic teacher and I thoroughly enjoyed my time with her and hope to be able to do more courses in the future.

I've taken the 10-day course with Imtaz but due to my schedule we arranged my classes to complete in 5 days. With Imtaz's guidance and help, I drafted and made a fitted shirt and a pair of trousers to my measurements. The reasons I chose to learn from Imtaz were to learn how to make a garment from scratch using real measurements and to learn tailoring techniques like finishing. Imtaz was patient and gave her instruction clearly. She shared her experience and helped with the process when needed. Compared to other courses I took, I found her classes very useful. I could ask questions at any time and could link the drafting and making processes together (many courses just do drafting or only use commercial pattern for construction). As such I was able to learn how to refine fitting and adapt patterns. I had a great time and would not hesitate to recommend Imtaz to people who want to learn how to make nice clothes properly.

I was looking for a course to learn more about patter meaking and with Imtaz I found exactly what I needed. She is a really helpful and friendly person as well as being highly prepared in her field of work. Her classes are designed according to the needs and goals of each student, that's why I think her course is absolutely suitable regardless of the student's starting point.
Personally, After a trial lesson I decided to book 20 one-to-one classes and I can't wait to learn more from her!

I spent 5 days with Imtaz, where we drafted pattern pieces and made a toile of the 1975 YSL 'Le Smoking' double-breasted jacket. Working one-to-one with Imtaz has been more fulfilling and holistic than learning in a classroom, and has helped further my understanding in the construction and shaping of a suit, she has also given me greater insight into the industry of bespoke tailoring and fashion. Imtaz is a wonderful individual who is exceptionally skilled in her craft, I would definitely recommend taking up a course with her!

I recently had the very great pleasure of spending half a day with Imtaz as she taught me how to create a pattern block and transform this into a toile. I have been sewing for a few years now but was becoming increasingly frustrated with the fact that the garments I was making were not fitting me very well. I didn't have the skills or knowledge to understand how to improve the fit of the clothes I was making, however my time with Imtaz has really propelled me to the next level of dressmaking and I came home with a pattern block and draft pattern that I will be able to use time and time again. Not only that, I now know how to start creating my own pattern blocks. Imtaz is a fantastic teacher as well as an incredibly warm person who is genuinely lovely to be around. I am actually looking forward to encountering my next sewing hurdle (whatever that may be) because I will absolutely be hot-footing it back to Imtaz.

Imtaz is an extremely patient and adaptable teacher. I have learnt more in the span of 10 days than I have in an arts school. I am definitely planning on taking more lessons with her. Imtaz knew how to challenge me to help me grow as both a designer and tailor. She allowed me to lead the project and add my own style into the work. She is very knowledgable with the various types of fabric, you’ll definitely need extended lessons with her to get the full knowledge. Her ironing skills are incredible. I found the making of pockets, waistbands, straps with Imtaz very fun, when usually it’d be a hassle. She manages to simplify complex patterns, making it manageable for almost anyone. During the 10 day course, we also took a day trip around soho where Imtaz showed me various fabric shops and buttoning studios. I really look forward to my next session with Imtaz and I highly recommend learning with her.

I had 5 days with Imtaz and I can say that it was an experience I have anticipated for so many years. I had contemplated taking a sewing class for a very long time and I finally made up my mind to do it when I came across Imtaz on google. I learned so much within the 5 days, made a skirt, a top and a trouser. Imtaz is excellent at what she does and has a way of making you feel very comfortable. My family were quite impressed with what I made and infact I believe I am not finally done with Imtaz yet. I will recommend her to anyone anyday anytime.

I am studying finance in Imperial and previously had no knowledge in sewing and pattern-making at all. Imtaz is very good at teaching me in a fun way. I can customize what lesson that I would like to take, and it is great as I can gain exactly what I want. She is very patient and detailed in explaining each steps so even I have no previous background can follow it easily. Also, she is very welcome to any question that I have. Overall, I am happy with the course and recommend it to everyone :)

I completed a fantastic five day course with Imtaz. As a beginner I was a bit apprehensive but within minutes of meeting Imtaz I was sure I had made the right decision. She caters for all levels of learning and she is an inspirational woman. After months of trialing online courses and researching tailoring tutors I’d advise anyone to go to Imtaz Khaliq, before spending thousands of your hard earned cash elsewhere. Imtaz’s knowledge is vast and her teaching methods are unrivalled. She is a generous teacher who has been in the industry a very long time. As well as her knowledge in fashion design and pattern cutting, Imtaz is a fantastic mental health advocate which what the fashion world needs right now ggiven how mental health is at the forefront in the fashion world right now.

I have always been passionate about sewing and actually wanted to pursue a career in dressmaking. As these things happen, my life took a completely different path (Tax accountant) but my passion for sewing never waned.
After buying quite a lot of books and trying a few courses I found out about Imtaz's bespoke tailoring classes. It sounded like just what I needed but admittedly, I didn't know what to expect. I signed up for the 20 day course – I am so glad I did!
Although she is very well decorated and highly regarded in the industry, I found Imtaz refreshingly down to earth and very practical. The sessions were quite informal and that suited me perfectly.
Imtaz's passion for her work shone through and it was obvious from the onset that she wanted me to realise my dreams as much as I wanted to, if not more so.
The classes were tailored to my needs and Imtaz did her best to pass on as much as was possible of her 30 years plus experience during our sessions - her snippets of information (best practices and tricks of the trade) were priceless. Her attention to detail is second to none.
I am rather curvy and it’s usually a challenge finding clothes that fit and even when I do get my clothes made they’re never quite right. The outfit I made with Imtaz is like a second layer of skin. It fits perfectly and I LOVE IT!! We even got the pattern all lined up!! Yup, I love bold patterns! I can’t wait to wear it to my friend’s wedding!
I have never felt as confident as I do now, after my time with Imtaz, to follow my dressmaking dreams.
Thanks Imi!!
