Bought a beautiful vintage suit on ebay which fit * almost * perfectly, but now thanks to Nanna it fits like it was made for me from the very beginning!! From the first conversation I knew it was in safe hands, she even returned the buttons which had to be removed so I know she really truly cares about the clothes she works on. I couldn't recommend Splendid Stiches more!!

Nanna did an amazing job altering my 1960s wedding dress. She added a new zip, opened up the back and ensured it fitted me perfectly. She also safely stored my dress for over a year, as my original 2020 wedding was cancelled. I got married on 5 June 2021 and felt so amazing wearing this beautifully tailored dress. I couldn't believe it when I saw that one of my prized CC41 dresses from the 1940s had a tear in her skirt. A couple of photos were sent, advice and options quickly ensued and we went for an original darn repair. Very prompt service and very professional. I was worried that any repair would decrease it's value but if anything, the repair is so authentic, it enhances it! I will definitely use Splendid Stitches again.

Nanna at Splendid Stitches is superb and highly skilled in her craft. I’m a vintage collector and I visited her a couple of years ago as I had some 40s/50s dresses that needed to be altered. The quality of work was excellent and Nanna is such a pleasure to work with that I’ve never forgotten it. I’ve been living in the states and have seen many seamstresses that just don’t compare. I’m saving the pieces in need of alterations/TLC for when I move back to London as she is the only one I’ll trust with the job.

If I ever was convinced that someone had supernatural abilities, it's Nanna! She is a truly fabulous lady, skilled beyond comprehension and is a master of her craft. Paired with this, I always have so much fun with her when I go for fittings! She has altered about 13 dresses for me now (once she does one for you it's hard to stop!) each alteration as magical as the last! I am SO protective over my collection of vintage clothing, especially the pieces that belonged to my lovely grandmother, and each piece that Nanna has done for me has been altered with meticulous care and complete understanding for what I want (mainly whipping a dress in at the waist within an inch of it's life!), and I truly mean it when I say I trust absolutely NOBODY else with my vintage. When you get your pieces back, her alterations are as if the item has been made specifically for you, the mending is completely invisible, and (speaking as a lady who has ripped many a vintage dress on a drunken night out) her mending really does survive the test of time, and plenty of dancing! It really feels like you've got brand new pieces, but of course while keeping their charms and quirks vintage pieces so often have. I have a rail of about 20 vintage pieces that all need altering since losing some weight, and as soon as lockdown is over I will be straight round to Splendid Stitches to get them all taken in/mended; She will be sick of the sight of me soon!! My best friend is so amazed at the work she has done on my pieces for me, she will also be booking an appointment for some of her pieces when Nanna opens up the studio again. I honestly cannot recommend Splendid Stitches enough for anyone who needs alterations on their special vintage items- 5 stars is not enough for Nanna! P.S. If you can't tell already, I'm convinced this lady is a witch.. but of course the good kind that makes all your clothes wearable and gives you fabulous hats you didn't know you needed!

Nanna is a genius! She altered a vintage Laura Ashley prairie dress for me that was about 5 inches too long. Loads of fabric and a really heavy cotton, but Nanna moved the ruffle at the bottom of the dress up, which meant no fabric was cut at all. Absolutely thrilled - will definitely be sending future items here! Also worth noting alteration was all agreed on email and item was sent via post there and back, all done in just over a week. Highly recommend!

Nanna was so helpful when I had a lovely 1930s velvet dress that’s needed altering for my wedding . It was made to fit perfectly and was made so much more comfortable to wear ! I always wear vintage clothes, every day, and many of my purchases are not in the best of condition. I had two recent buys, both 1950s taffeta dresses that both had extremely noticeable tears not just on the seams and zips but across the fabric itself. Nanna at Splendid Stitches did a fantastic job repairing lace on a 50+ year old Christening gown. Gown was required with a fairly quick turnaround date and Nanna advised that repairing lace wasn't her specialist, but she did a practically invisible repair well within the required timescale.
