A massive thank you to Michael for the design and tailoring of my wedding suit. From the moment we sat down in the incredibly evocative consultation room to the moment I had my final fitting and picked my suit up, I felt like James Bond, being kitted out for another mission. It was the experience of a lifetime and Michael made it all so simple. My suit looked and fitted perfectly and I know it will last a lifetime.

I took my suit in on very short notice as it needed altering quite abit after i had dropped some weight since i bought it. Not only did they manage to turn it around on very short notice, but the quality of the work was very impressive. It felt like a new suit after the alterations were made. I would highly recommend.

I had a pair of trousers repaired that had a sizeable hole in where the fabric had worn away. The repair took about two weeks from sending in my trousers to getting them back, which I thought was very good. The repair is of fantastic quality - it is hard to tell that they have had any work done. The hole has been patched up, the new fabric matches very well, and the inside has been reinforced so should be good for a long time yet. The repair cost around £19 +postage which was tremendous value given the quality.

Altered a Barbour Jacket for me, not the easiest of items but you would nt even know it had nt been done by Barbour! to make it more difficult I live 300 miles away so request and sizing via email and they still nailed it! James Personal Tailor & Son was recommended to me for the alteration of my prised and beloved suits that no longer fitted correctly after losing some weight. I visited the shop and found what could be described as a hidden gem. From the minute I walked in the staff were very attentive and the service was first rate. Michael measured and pinned my Jackets, Trousers and Waistcoats with such skill and flair. Then produced an handwritten invoice detailing all the required work with itemised costs and a completion date. This was done so professionally. My suits now fit perfectly. The workmanship of the alteration are exceptional. The service provided is truly first class. I will be using their services in the future and advise anyone who requires clothing alteration or modifications to do the same. Very highly recommended.

Had a waist suppression done on a suit jacket. Friendly and knowledgeable service at a good price, that was hassle free and the result, perfect. It might cost a couple of quid extra compared to a dry cleaner, but the end result is so much better, and you have the reassurance that the person doing the work understands the garment, rather than just being someone who is 'handy with a needle and thread'. Will be going again!

Treated my husband to a bespoke suite for Christmas. Michael was so professional and it felt special seeing pictures of him doing Christiano Ronaldo and Lionel Richie’s suits on the wall. The price was fair but the quality of the suit and the work man ship was second to none. There was a Manchester City player in their too but we don’t know who he was. Amazing traditional old shop. Found this tailor via a Google search and have subsequently had numerous alterations carried out on suit trousers and expensive jeans with consistently impressive end results. As I live in London I have had to use the postal service and each time turnaround has been around 9 days. Reasonable prices, excellent customer service and professional expertise - cannot recommend these guys highly enough.

After a bit of research online, trying to find a reasonably priced tailor was proving quite difficult being based in London. Luckily enough I came across James Personal Tailor and son based in Manchester city centre (easy to find, just off the main shopping area) who are specialists in the specific alterations I needed doing, even better my mate lives up there and who was patient enough to wait in the Pret-A-Manger across the road. After detailing my needs via a welcoming and informative telephone conversation, we arranged the day I would bring my items in and a rough estimate on how much it would cost, which was perfect for my budget. When I arrived and was greeted by a very well turned out young man named Michael (the son), He treated me like a well know regular customer, which made my experience within this environment very pleasurable and even had time to chat to me about style and other types of tailoring work they do (I can even get denim altered to my own specifications). Receiving my items back via post as I had to return to London before they were finished, I felt like a kid at christmas and am more than pleased with the final result, the fit is just what I wanted to feel the level confidence I should feel wearing pretty expensive garments, thanks to Michael's expertise I can continue reworking my wardrobe and know where to go for future alterations...It's well worth the trip. I've been in the market for a suit in the past and have been a bit disheartened at the bewildering array of same-old of the peg styles which are made in god-knows-where to a price to suit the pocket. They never seemed to fit the way I wanted, and the cut and style was always a compromise. And a couple of years later they languish at the back of the wardrobe destined for the charity shop. I decided to turn this philosophy on its head: I wanted something made to my specification, choice of cloth and cut and style. I met James and Mike Pendlebury in their fabulous, old-world style shop. They proved that old-school tailoring is alive and well: an un-rushed oasis of pride, devotion to their craft and the customer (me) at the centre of an experience I will never forget. Mike was happy to guide me through the whole process, and after three visits I have ended up with a suit which has exceeded my wildest dreams. It is a thing of beauty and elegance which I will treasure for years to come. Not only that, I have the satisfaction of owning something which has been made in the very shop I bought it, using cloth woven from just over the Pennines. The cost isn't the issue. The only issue for me is how long it will take me to save up for my next one!!
