Reviews of Leicester City Council Taxi Testing & Public MOT Station

I was recommended to use this site by a friend from the Leicester University Engineering department, who had been using them for many years.
I found it to be a straight forward and a honest MOT test, unlike so many other private companies who are looking for work that is not required to bump up there cost.
I will be DEFINITELY be using them again every year for all my vehicle .

Any office you go first person you see is receptionist.
And here receptionist is a queen.
You won't be treated like human.
Her behaviour is like a dictator.
Hope management will teach some etiquette to treat 🙏 human.
Time to meet MOT engineer.
He was such a nice respectful person.
5 star for engineer.
But 0 star for receptionist.
God bless you and make you a better person.

Have known about Council run MOT stations forever, but never got round to using one. This time, though, after last year's minor debacle with my usual station... (he had the car all day, parked on a yellow line outside, then, when I returned near the end of the working day, asked if I'd like to take it elsewhere...) He's honest enough, but prefers cars that need repairs, and I usually prepare mine reasonably well rather than risk failure.
I decided, after last year's experience, it was time to try my nearest Council run place, despite the distance. I live in North Northamptonshire, so the Leicester one's about 25 miles for me. (closer than Towcester, though)
I booked for 07.30, and arrived very early to beat city traffic, and bumbled off into the city for a coffee. The guys arrived to open up at 07.15, and I popped in at 07.25 to wait.
Got a cheery reception, and watched the car being tested in a nice, light, clean, organized shop. No time wasting, no rushing about, and the tester was thorough, methodical and fair. I usually, if I'm present while my car's being tested, have to watch my car up on the ramp having nothing done to it, while the tester's on the phone to customers, or advising his mechanics, or chatting to mates. Here, the guy got on with the task in a businesslike manner, no rushing, but no wasted time either. I had a couple of (fair) advisories including a tarnished rear reflector I'd not noticed, but the car passed. (I'd done a bit of preparatory work, though)
In the past, I've had a local garage claim to have topped up a newly serviced Fiesta with oil (2 litres??? is that likely? at £4.50 back when a gallon cost less...) That I needed replacement brake pipes (passed elsewhere, then again, and again, at another station for three more years...) And one which suggested my newly fitted (week old) rear shock absorbers were leaking. That led to an interesting conversation, since I submitted the car on a wet day, and the leaking fluid, much to my tester's embarrassment, turned out to have the viscosity, lubricity and smell of... Water!
I had a chat to a couple of local taxi drivers, in for their tests, and they were full of praise for the place. They do a serious test, here, though, don't expect an easy pass, but, since they don't do repairs, have no commercial axe to grind.
All in all, a good experience. Highly recommended.

Good place for a public MOT. Only do testing, so unbiased test. Can be a bit awkward to find. Test takes about 40 mins ish. Small waiting area with a coffee machine and toilets. Accept cash and card.

Very strict with mots but has to be done. Only downside is women on phones is rude.
