Reviews of Newcastle
W. H.
Spacious, bright and airy station, located strategically close to the city and River Tyne. I liked the classic architecture of the station though some areas have been renovated.
T. A.
Beautiful and big railway station. It is a great train station with signs everywhere to follow. They have all the basic amenities from cafes to ticket sales.Large busy station, seemed clean and uncluttered. No charge for going to the loo and got straight in for once. Large screen telling the train times and various shops inside.
R. Q.
My lovely city, quite and amazing place to work in and live
N. D.
A beautiful old railway station, open and spacious. Toilets are free and clean. Plus there’s an AMT coffee outlet which is always a bonus!
K. H.
A great train station.
I found the toilets here very clean, which is a surprise considering, plus they were free which is a bonus too. Not to mention here you have either a Sainsbury’s Local, M&S Food and WHSmith to choose your drinks and snacks. A great place to people watch and see where you can travel to. Police presence here was good as well. Felt very safe.
S. G.
Impressive looking building structure. Highly recommended for catching a train from here too - bit of a local monopoly on train departures by the looks of things. Word of warning: the M&S concession has some very strict staff - strict in the sense of “it’s 8pm, you must leave NOW” so watch out for that one
P. T. 4.
Perfect place to see trains!
Everything and anything comes through from fastest express trains to the longest container train!
Also perfect place to travel to anywhere in the UK!

This beautiful city has spacious, bright & airy terminus railway station with long platforms. Lovely location just close to city centre & River Tyne. This station connecting major cities across UK such as Edinburgh, London, Manchester, Bristol etc by fast track trains like LNER, Lumo & Crossrail.
It’s also a heritage building. The construction began in 1847 n was completed in 1850. I liked the classic architecture of the station though some areas have been renovated. I’ll definitely love this beautiful station. Always clean & tidy. Very helpful n friendly staff. Many cafés n bar in station building n around too. There’s parking. it’s easy & simple to navigate inside station by signs.
P. C.
In the heart of the city center surrounded by many pubs and restaurants just minutes away on foot. Finding a parking may be challenging and nearby parking options are a bit expensive. Some of the countries biggest supermarket branches can be found there as well as food and drink options for a quick break upon arrival or departure. Access to the metro with connection to the area. Next stop down in Monument where more restaurants, bars and pubs can be found and if you want to visit city centre a bit more. Metro to Sunderland, South Shields and the airport. Walking distance from Quayside for a walk or a meal by the river.
d. d.
parking outside the entrance for taxis and buses and drop off there's shelters to stand under you have to pay to get threw barriers. Toilets and Creggs and disabled assistants seating areas and information desk are on ground floor there's lifts to all parts of the airport and stairs so depending on your mobility to what you can use..all different check in desk for travel companies..seating areas..bag check in drops..plenty of duty free shops and cafes and bars and newsagents boots...security and passport control...clean and tidy helpful staff..
S. V.
A very big terminus railway station with long platforms connecting major cities across UK - Edinburgh, London, Manchester, etc.; and also is a heritage building. The construction began in late 1847 and was completed in the late 1850. You will definitely fall in love with this beautiful station.
E. P.
Very good station and connected with multiple main city in the United Kingdom. Even cross country :-)
J. R.
Brilliant city with a great selection of dining, bars, cafés & shopping options.
Very friendly people.
Love the accent!
A. R. S.
Good station, lots of traffic, enough sitting space and a couple of coffee shops and food outlets. I've been to better stations around though. Good thing is this is in the dead center of Newcastle. So most of the attractions are within walking distance of the station.
Metro station right in the middle as well.
D. H.
As always stunning Victorian buildings, a mind bending array of restaurants and cocktail bars, plenty of activities for adults and children alike, it'd s must visit
C. W.
On our way to st James park beautiful day
Tempted by Burger King
My son is a very fussy eater he loves the chips from here
Very clean and great service!
A. D.
You gotta love Newcastle!!! It's the best place to be Tyne and Wear County
S. M.
Great place for a night out, the locals are very friendly!
D. O.
I would like to complement a young man by the name of ANDREW who was on duty escorting assisted passengers of the 13.52 Train from London Kings X today. He was also the same person who put her on the train last week bound for London.
He was absolutely wonderful seeing to the passengers. Perhaps you may be able to pass on our appreciation in some other way. He was certainly a credit to LNER. A Happy New Year to everyone.
C. T.
It is a beautiful iconic train station. Typical day in and out. Enjoy the restaurant for meal and tea.
There was once there was a staff who was lay back and did not bother to serve me to the train to London. I was so stressed and she was living in her dream. I hope she is working there anymore. Otherwise, we would be missing so many train because of her extremely slow reaction to our request for support.
It was just that one lady so I wouldn't bothered enjoying this Newcastle town.
B. T.
A nice mix of old Victorian sandstone architecture with a modern entrance. Very large station with good services and a nice layout.
P. D.
Realy good train spotting area especially if you stand on the end of platform 5 south facing
R. L. P. J.
We didn't get off the train here, but every time we pass a train station, I get excited. Just the ease of transport in the UK. The station looked nice, clean, and made for a good photo opportunity. Maybe the next time I am here I will get off the train and walk around.
G. F.
Very friendly people, atmosphere and very nice city
D. R.
Brilliant vibrant city...loads to do and see!! A tourists heaven!!
J. B.
What can I say about the staff here other than that I loved them? We booked our wheelchair assistance in advance for two trips that changed at Newcastle and every time the staff were friendly, cheerful and eagerly attentive to any need we could possibly have. Because we (unfortunately) live down south we are used to travelling with GWR, who often treat wheelchair users so begrudgingly it makes you wonder if you've done something to upset them.
Our experience with LNER could not be further from that. Your staff were all brilliant and you made what should have been a very long and stressful journey into a very relaxing and enjoyable experience.
Every rail provider could learn from the example of the staff at Newcastle. As railway stations go, we could not have wished for anything more.
m. f.
Nice, not crowded at all. U can play piano too
G. W.
Most beautiful train station I have seen in England
E. D.
Newcastle is a vibrant lively friendly city with lovely people
Y. D. Q.
Big station with with restaurants and shops. Nice views as you come in from the south over the bridge.
P. D.
Newcastle Central Station is a wonderful historic station with friendly staff and good facilities.
K. P.
Fabulous place to visit. Nightlife is great, lots of lovely restaurants and excellent for shopping. Can't wait to return.
M. I.
Great station. Well laid out.
L. “. F.
A very beautiful station, love the trains, and is very clean.
G. S.
Great place for stag and hen parties. Great city of friendly people. Easy to get around with a good transport system lots of places to stay and eat.
C. M.
Friendly staff, great information, superbly clean, and plenty of shops before you adventure out of town. As well as that, a good place for trains!
P. M.
The station was clean and tidy and, apart from a few people apparently deliberately ignoring the one way entry and exits, clearly signed, the experience was good.
H. Q.
A nice train station with plenty of seats and various food&drink to choose
P. D.
Train station so it's the best place to go to get on a train!!! LOL
J. M.
Ok very nice place exelent
B. C.
Good place indeed. Location and Connectivity is good. Trains for almost all routes are available. Advance tickets are also sold. Stores are also available.
J. T.
Thank you to the lady staff member this afternoon at 15:30 who helped me find a train to York when my train was cancelled, she helped me get my luggage to the next platform & spoke to the LINER staff on my behalf, I was so grateful.
S. R.
Very busy station connecting Tyneside to all parts of the UK Contains numerous shops such as small supermarkets and coffee shops There is a shoeshine stall and a flowerseller Interchange with metro system and local bus services around the city and elsewhere
D. N.
Canna beat Newcastle man !
N. C.
Organised and not too full of people. Not too many places to sit inside and have a snack or coffee.
A. S.
This is a wonderful train station. The staff was readily available, knowledgeable and very friendly. There are a number of places to grab a quick meal or just a cup of tea or coffee. There is a small souvenir selection, a Paperchase stir and a florist. It is clean and well lite with clean bathrooms. Dog friendly.
S. D.
One visit there was only one working toilet due to one being out of order and one having the door detached. Would expect there to be more maintenance carried out as it can get quite busy there. Another time the lock was broken so I had to keep it closed with my luggage. Otherwise station is presentable and staff helpful.
b.
Lovely station. Never had a problem here. Toilets are lovely and always clean and tidy. You'd think being such a big station the gates would be shut 24/7 but they aren't quite a lot.
P. L.
Staff friendly and helpful and it looked like all the facilities were open waiting rooms, Costa, Pumpkin, etc
X.
Train delayed by 30 minutes. Hope I get a partial refund.
C.
I use this station 5 times a week to commute to work decent bike facilities, an array of places to grab food a drink before your train, free toilets also unlike other stations, staff are always freindly but some of them are numpties, if your a guard or a station staff member at least know the station your working in.
A. M.
Rich in history, magnificent churches and castle. Stunning station, well run, clean, friendly and helpful staffs. There's public parking around the station, information desk, staff onsite, public lavatory, restaurants and cafés. There's also bus interchange right next door. Departure board and covered area to drop off and pickup. There's also a taxi ranks outside. An impressively run major train hub to and from London. A great gateway to a historical and beautiful city.
T. J.
Amazing station, large but very open and always busy! Easy enough to find your platform and plenty of stores around to get what you need before and after your journey.
Staff are helpful and station is always clean. Great location within the city centre.
A. M.
Busy but very efficient
S.
The Newcastle train station toilets are disgusting! The sanitary bins were overflowing and there wasn't any toilet paper in any of the cubicles. These sort of places are used daily so should be checked daily! These toilets are probably not checked for a month. Especially the sanitary bins. There's no need for it!
A. H.
Away for birthday had a great time
D. B.
We travelled to Edinburgh for the weekend. The brass band that was playing were fantastic. Very entertaining. The music was great. Got everyone going
S. L.
Architecturally one of the most impressive railway stations in the country with a magnificent roof and portico, now greatly enhanced by the addition of a glass panels under the arches which make it a good place to avoid the inclement British weather. Usual assortment of retail outlets selling goods at inflated prices and it wasn't the most sensible of ideas to make space for these by moving the ticket office / travel centre a good way down one of the platforms from its previous central location. Nearby parking options expensive unless you're going to be under an hour. Staff usually very helpful and easy to find.
M. C.
I left my bag on a train last week and didn’t realise until I had boarded my connecting train. The staff at lost property were amazing at reuniting me with my bag. I can’t thank the staff enough. Well done and big thank you for all your help. You all went the extra mile
S. M.
A pretty large train station; with huge notice board to ensure proper know the departure times; friendly staff members everywhere; plenty of shops to ensure you can get a snack/drink; with a handful of security walking around
B. G.
Convenient location. Exiting the right side is often an issue. The staff is always great. But the place need greater degree of maintenance. Maybe it just because it was the mens toilet but the loo was rather messy. Held it together till I founds the nearest Costas
P. D.
Loads to do with plenty of shops & food outlets
B. W.
One Of the Best Stations in The UK , LNER Staff are Brilliant and also willing to go the extra mile the Customer Service is Fantastic and there are plenty places for Food and Drink A Typical Geordie Welcome These Staff are Second To none.Well Done your all Excellent.
Thank You.
C. d.
Fairly standard train station. Basic travel shops inside... So you can get amenities from here if you've forgotten anything. Plenty of coffee shops.
Toilets available, including some beyond the entry barriers which are a bit cleaner.
C. G.
When the night colours look rich
M. D.
This place is a hoot. You can never really be certain what kind of train you’re going to get or whether you will even be able to get a train at all. I’ve been lucky and I think I’ve now done every kind of train.
The no contraband train: this is the one where if you try and get on while carrying any form of alcohol - including sealed gift wrapped bottles - 6 large blokes in hi-vis jackets will stop you getting on board. It’s like an exclusive members only club, except it’s totally rubbish because the only thing that makes trains tolerable isn’t allowed, so everyone is faced with the split second decision to either relinquish their alcohol and sit looking cowed and dejected or get a taxi, where you can neck a bottle of Buckfast in one go and no one minds - the driver might just tell you to settle down a bit and not get anything on the seats.
The one that just doesn’t turn up at all: this is usually not too bad because there’s a bar in the station but one time I was in a rush and I bought a Subway Eat Fresh sandwich. My train got cancelled, leaving me standing there with soggy fast food that I couldn’t take into a bar because I didn’t want to risk being turned away due to my a rapidly congealing sandwich dripping onto the just-waxed floor. Have you ever scarfed down a Subway Eat Fresh sandwich while staring fixedly into a train station bar? I have and it’s just miserable
The gravy train: the 6am run from Newcastle to London where the unreserved seats are concentrated near the food bit. If you’re unlucky enough to not get a seat assigned you have to go sit in this section where the smell of Bisto is pumped into the extra-small compartment comprised of 10 spare seats that have been squeezed in to help shift more cynically expensive tickets.
The Great Train Robbery: you travel from point A to point B and discover on arrival you have no money. This is actually a totally normal train but they’re a bit overpriced for what you get, aren’t they?
The completely mental train from York on a Friday night where all the stag dos and weekenders get on: there’s nothing wrong with this train in principle except no one has any sense of when to leave you alone, everyone is screaming at each other like baboons, and if you walk down the carriage everyone stares and cackles at you like it’s your first night in the slammer and they all have designs on breaking you in, pretty boy.
I think I could have avoided all of these trains by checking for rules and so on in advance but I don’t want to do that, I just want to get on a normal train and do normal train stuff like drinking tinnies from a blue plastic bag and trying to hide from the conductor in the bogs when I’m only going one stop.
K. L.
Fabulous city and friendly people
G. “. D.
The Staff that work here are all friendly, i have never had any issues traveling
P. H.
Good facilities and a multitude of destinations
M. O.
Not easy parking (short-stay)
A. M.
So much to notice including a walk under the Victorian tiles in Central Arcade and more tiles in The Centurian pub on Central Station...such precious pieces of Newcastle's history
S. K.
Great historical city only spoilt by homelessness and drug and alcohol issues which are visible during daytime hours
L.
Newcastle Central station is a Grade 1 listed building, designed by Architect John Dobson. The main entrance portico on Neville street originally took vehicle traffic and served as a drop off point. Today though, it is enclosed with glazing and serves pedestrians only. One notable feature is the curved platforms.
E. S.
Newcastle upon Tyne is the main hub for the northern half of Northeastern England, Leeds being the other main hub. This means Newcastle Central is the hub for train and metro services. There are ticket and information offices for train and metro services. There are bars and cafes on station, shops are present including a supermarket, Sainsbury's, and on three occasions in the last three years, I visited 'Central Market'. Newcastle and Gateshead have some excellent bridges. Travelling over them at high level is a great experience.
M. D.
I use metro to get to this part of town and often just enjoy coffee here, and a visit to Boots or Sainsbury, it's just a good place to be.And see all the places I could go to.
Newcastle NCL is the formal name of this station but familiarly known as Central Station But Central is the name of the Metro stop for this station and if you Google.. Central Station.. this is what you get....an underground station
See Google map
S.
This is a good train station, plenty of places to eat, good transport links, Taxis, buses, metro, toilets, small WHSmith inside
D. C.
One of the most impressive stations in the country. Despite having 12 platforms, it's quite easy to find your way around. Most of the staff are friendly and helpful
C. M.
Beautiful old building and really big. Also it is really easy to get around and staff are really friendly. If you are lost they will help you get around and there is a café near the entrance
O. O.
It's a good station. It's clean and easy to navigate and announcements are clear. The station is also quite appealing architecturally.
P. B.
We had passenger assistance which helped us right to our seat which was very helpful in these uncertain times
W. W.
Cost of Living is reasonably cheap compare with other cities in UK. Public transport is efficient. City Centre within walking distance.
C. H.
Wonderful piece of Victoriana. Take the time to wander around and check out the marvellously elaborate steel roof girders and the highly decorative mosaics.
D. S.
Amazing town , people up north are more friendly
李.
The toilet was impressively clean.
