The NI Black Taxi Tour is a must for anyone visiting Belfast. Robert, my guide was incredible. I went into the tour knowing a minimal amount about the history. I learned so much. Robert shared the history in a very neutral fashion. You just can't go to Belfast, without experiencing the Black Taxi Tour. Thank you so much for the memorable experience. Mark our tour guide was simply amazing! Very informative and most importantly non-bias. He picked us up in good time after a last minute decision to do the political tour, accommodated the fact we were on a tight schedule for dinner as well but still covered so much and made it light hearted enough for the topics of Northern Ireland’s history. I took a trip out of interest as a local to see what was going on and being told. I was blown away by the knowledge and friendliness by Mark, who also showed no favouritism to any side, he told me as he saw it. Very punctual and to the point, I checked a lot out of what he told me when I got home and everything checked out 100%. An incredibly powerful “Politics” tour with Mark. Firstly - contact. Booking was easy and Mark called upon arrival at our hotel to let us know he was there. Secondly - the tour itself was incredibly compelling and although date-wise the tour jumped around a little, thematically it flowed wonderfully. For someone who is family with The Troubles from the news, but little else, suddenly seeing how close all the communities are, and the towering “peace walls” in person really brings it all home. Mark stopped and asked if we wanted to take pictures (we didn’t because it was just too powerful, and one of those things you just need to be in the moment for) but he was very considerate of my friend’s hearing difficulties and we stood outside where it was easier for her to hear. The price was very reasonable - just remember to take cash with you as it’s cash only. I’d highly recommend a tour with Mark, and if I was here longer - or come back again - I’d definitely do another.

Mark was an excellent tour guide. We did two tours with NI Black taxi. First one, the political tour, mark had a wealth of information and knowledge to share, as well as his own personal stories about the troubles that he lived through and experienced. We also did the Giants Causeway/Atrim Coast tour. Mark again was very knowledgeable and let us take our time at all the stops. We had a fantastic, informative and highly enjoyable tour with Mark of Belfast’s Protestant and Catholic areas - the Falls and Shankill road - and murals. Mark is extremely knowledgeable about history and gave us lots of fascinating information about how the conflict started centuries ago, and how it evolved right up to today. He took us to all the key areas and showed us incredible murals, memorials and sites. As a history enthusiast, I found him extremely balanced, always giving two sides and helping us understand both perspectives. He also shared a lot of personal stories that brought the conflict alive and helped us to understand the experience of growing up in these parts of Belfast. Our kids (aged 9, 8 and 4) asked non-stop questions which Mark answered with great patience and humour. He is a walking encyclopaedia. He treads a factual, informed and balanced line and we saw and heard about both sides of the ‘Troubles’ from their early origins to the current day. A great black taxi tour of the murals and peace wall. An excellent guide and our driver Mark was very knowledgeable and thoughtful. The Falls Road and Shankill Road, names from my childhood news reports are so close, the history so long and the divisions so bitter. In Mark's telling trouble often started with kids home from school scrapping across the line and degenerated from there. Hundreds of years of grievance that keeps coming back to the surface. Apparently 50 years ago conversations with people each side of the line suggested the way to make things better was to integrate the schools. 50 years on and still nearly all the schools are segregated. A salutary and fascinating tour. Do it. You will remember it well. Thank you Mark.

We were a group of 10 lads in Belfast for the weekend and I had been wanting to do a taxi tour for years, but had always been worried about having a biased opinion to one side or the other. I needn't have worried, as Mark was incredibly impartial, friendly and spoke knowledgably and passionately about the troubles as someone who had lived through the worst of it, yet still managed to give a well-balanced and informative view of both sides. For a group of 10 guys on a weekend away to all be engrossed for 2 hours to the extent that we all said we would rather miss the start of an important rugby game than cut short the tour, is testament to Mark's delivery and knowledge. We felt 100% safe walking around and taking pictures underneath some of the most infamous murals on both sides of the wall, and had plenty of time for questions and interaction, no rush at all. I would highly recommend this tour if you are visiting Belfast. It was two hours of really informative history about the sights and politics that have shaped the city over the years. Visiting the areas around Shankill and Falls Road was a real eye opener for me and our party as first time visitors to the city. Four of us went on this tour yesterday morning, including my 16 year old son who enjoys history and he thoroughly enjoyed it. Jim was our guide, he picked us up at our hotel and straightaway introduced himself and explained what the tour would consist of and where we would be going. Jim was impartial and talked in great detail about both sides of the story, and he was extremely informative and detailed in his explanation of all the sites we visited. We felt a good rapport with Jim who was knowledgeable and interesting. He definitely made the tour worthwhile. This tour is amazing but heart breaking too. I was totally gobsmacked at the size of a rubber bullet (I'd imagined it the size of an ear plug!) Photo attached and one of some barricades to protect houses from attacks. We seen so many murals and heard both sides. Thankfully it's all in the past now, Belfast is the most welcoming city to visit as is the rest of Northern Ireland, wonderful warm and welcoming people. Black Taxi Tour is a must if you're visiting

Very interesting tours, we got to see some murals, a section of the wall, we stopped by the old courthouse and jail, some Catholic and Protestant quarters, etc. It's an interesting history if you're not familiar with it. The driver was nice, though I feel like it's a bit of a sketchy operation; the taxi wasn't labelled, and at some point we were stopped for 20 minutes while he was going through some history. Still a good tour for 35 pounds, but I feel like there's a lot of room for improvement.
