Just returned from our second self-guided trek organized by Alpine Exploratory. The first one was the Alta Via 1 in the Dolomites two years ago and because we had such a fun experience, we decided to do another. This time, it was the Adlerweg in the Austrian Tyrol. Armed with route cards with detailed descriptions of the day's walk, maps, and reserved huts/hotels, my husband and I started the three-week trek from the east at St. Johann in Tirol to the west at St. Anton. Thanks to the preparation work of Steph, Hannah and the team at Alpine Exploratory, we were able to challenge ourselves and safely complete the journey. I highly recommend Alpine Exploratory if you are considering a trek in the alps, it'll be worth it!

Booking an Alta Via 1 trip with Alpine Exploratory was the best decision I made during COVID cabin fever. Steph and team kept me posted as the schedule came together, and provided all the materials I needed for my self-guided trip. When the dates finally arrived, I was ready with the right kit and knowledge to navigate confidently and enjoy the spectacular experience.

Very responsive, very supportive, and very upbeat. It is difficult to overvalue the information Alpine Exploratory provided us on our self-guided hike of the AV1. For similar hikes in Europe, we will definitely use AE again. Highly recommend.

Had a wonderful experience hiking the Via Alta Uno self-guided with the help of Alpine Exploratory. From start to finish they were helpful, responsive, and clearly invested in the success of the trip. Couldn’t recommend them more highly and I look forward to booking my next trek with them.

Completed a solo trek along the Adlerweg with Alpine Exploratory in August. This was a terrific trip made possible by the brilliant attention to detail and organization provided by the staff of AE. The fact that each trip is personally reconnoitered by staff makes for really accurate route descriptions as seen in their route cards. The pre-trip planning provided by Steph and Hannah in the office was excellent and very professional.Alpine Exploratory is by far the best company I have used for this type of holiday.

We greatly benefitted from Alpine Exploratory's help in designing a fabulous one-week trek through the Italian Dolomites this fall, 2021. The "trip cards" provided by Alpine Exploratory were detailed and accurate, and helped us navigate the various trails, signposts and alternative routes. Alpine also pre-booked our refugios, making sure that we had reservations in advance, particularly at the more popular ones like Refugio Laguzuioi. We highly recommend this group for anyone who wishes to trek the Dolomites or similar routes in Europe.

Having used a number of other walking holiday companies in the past, we found AE to have the edge. Their walking directions were extremely clear and detailed (and are updated annually and printed on handy pocket sized waterproof paper) ,they provided maps and info to all parties (not just one set) and provided personal email and phone contact throughout. All bag transfer arrangements and bookings worked well as expected and accommodation was high quality. AE were the only company we found offering the Snowdonia way as a self guided trip - the trail is highly recommended.

The recent guided Haute Route trip was very well organised with detailed information updated for changing Covid regulations. The guide was extremely knowledgeable of the route and kept mindful of group members' abilities. A hard and sometimes exposed two weeks, for sure, but highly enjoyable and satisfying. The views from the many elevated trail sections were simply unforgettable.

Thank you Alpine Exploratory (AE) for an amazing Tour du Mont Blanc guided trip!
Mont Blanc is breath-taking. It goes without saying that the scenery was beyond spectacular, and our photos don’t do it justice. But that’s what we were expecting booking the holiday.
But what made the trip even more special was the outstanding service we got from the AE team every step of the way. Thanks for going above and beyond to accommodate our group in peak season and during the Tour de France. The itinerary, accommodations and logistics were well-planned and efficiently executed. We travel often and can say with confidence that AE is one of the best tour operators we’ve had the pleasure to travel with.
Our three amazing guides, Rob, Kathy, and John, were great to work with, and they upheld the Alpine Exploratory high service standards. We appreciate the care they put into planning each and every day of our holiday. Not only were they very knowledgeable about the area, but they are just wonderful and fun to spend time with. They were extremely patient, answered all our questions, shared lots of great stories, and made the trip a pure delight. We would happily work with each of them again.
Overall, this holiday has exceeded our wildest expectations and will be remembered for a long time to come! All 20 of us highly recommend the TMB and AE to anyone. We are looking forward to future adventures with AE.

We were novice mountain hikers who live in the flatlands who undertook the challenge of the Eastern portion of the Haute Route in mid-July. We did not want to go with a group, but wanted the resources to feel confident about what we were undertaking and being well-informed.
After investigating the many different options available, we went with Alpine Exploratory because it offered the option of the Eastern or Western portions of the HR (as opposed to only the entire length) and our initial email exchanges suggested they were responsive, well-informed and helpful. We also thought the price was very reasonable given that it covered our accommodations, breakfasts and some of our dinners. Having met a hikers en route who were scheduling their nightly accommodations on their own, we were very happy to have that all taken care of for us. The only downside might be if you decided you needed or wanted a rest day and wanted flexibility in your schedule. We had to keep moving (although that was not at all a problem for us).
In the 6 months leading up to our trip as well as for the 8 days we were hiking, I have nothing but superlatives to say about Ollie, Lucy and Simon in terms of their helpfulness and quick turn-around and attention to detail. Everything that we needed for a successful hike was made available to us and the maps and turn-by-turn directions were high quality. We were updated (while we were traveling) of a surprise snowfall 2 days before our journey and in the middle of our trip, Simon was able to Daily hiking information also provided options for alternative transportation (should you wish to shorten your hike or avoid long descents and save your knees) and we ended up taking advantage of this very helpful information (as did other appreciative hikers who were not part of guided groups staying at our hotel) when we encountered a storm system moving in for the day we would be hiking from Gruben to St Niklaus.
The Haute Route itself was a magnificent experience. Every day brought new challenges (both of us had a fear of heights and edges) and new and wonderous vistas. We met lovely people along the route. Mid-July was not very crowded and allowed us to hike with an abundance of wildflowers. We would rarely see more than a handful of people hiking each days. Although we encountered snow (creepers were a good thing to have along), we were never cold and hiked in shorts and tee-shirts. Hiking poles are a must--especially the kind that can be adjusted quickly and easily. The Swiss hiking routes are exceedingly well-marked. We bypassed the Europahutte option at the end of the hike (because of the uncertainty of conditions) and instead spent two wonderful days of hiking from Zermatt (day 1 to the Riffelsee and up to the Gornlegrat and day 2 to the Hornlihutte) and highly recommend that option for getting upclose and personal to the Matterhorn.
We opted for the midlevel accommodations and have no complaints and felt that with one exception (La Sage L'Escuriel) the rooms were more than clean and comfortable and spacious. There were no mixups in accommodations and everything that was supposed to happen did. In many cases, we were given rooms with balconies. Most were en suite. Breakfasts (again, with the exception of La Sage) were hearty and fresh with plenty of coffee refills available. Many days we just ate a big breakfast and trail snacks when hiking and then filled up at dinner. The dinners that were included were very good.
Please note that in addition to the resources provided by Alpine Exploratory, we did do a separate training course in mountain navigation skills (through Colorado Mountain School) and also did quite a bit of cardiovascular training (hiking, biking, running) so that we would be well-prepared for our trip. It all paid off. We had a fantastic hike and highly recommend the services of Alpine Exploratory. Already thinking of the next trip....
