Reviews of City Sightseeing Glasgow

This is a terrific service around the vibrant dynamic city of Glasgow. For one pound extra you can get a two day pass, rather than one day. There is so much to see that it takes a couple of days to get around. Several of the attractions are a little further out so you can't walk to them easily. So the hop on hop off bus serves as a reliable and fun means of getting around. The drivers, conductors and commentators are all terrific - knowledgeable, welcoming and super friendly.

Used this bus service ,it was quite fun , everything was explained well by this student tour guide she was amazing. Enjoyed it.
C. L.
We used this great bus service over two days and have only positive comments. The service is on time, clean and informed. The staff are friendly and helpful, the commentary is informative and quite amusing at times. I would highly recommend this, it’s a perfect way for newcomers to see the sights on Glasgow.

Transportation in Glasgow is very confusing for tourists. Multiple bus systems that don't have day passes to use between them. The hop on hop off bus is great. It takes a very good route for visitors. Multiple day pass is very reasonable price and you can use it all day. Use this service if you want to see the city.

If you ride with the redheaded tour-guide Roz you will have a seriously good time. He is funny, has a lot of inside info on Glasgow and a real storyteller. We also had some other guides who were a bit drier. So definitely hop on and off to mix it up a bit. But we learnt cool stuff and it drives to the right places, so we’ll certainly take it again next time we’re in Glasgow.
M. G.
A tour of the city on top of a bus with a tour guide telling us information and stories! We did the whole tour and we are able to ride and catch the other buses on the route. I would advise doing the whole tour then picking a spot to get dropped off second round time them when you are done there get on the bus again they come every 15inutes on the route. Was a great way to see and learn a out the whole city and shop and shop at various places. Was well worth the cost!
M. A.
Very interesting live commentary by Mark. Kevin the driver was also very good. The day ticket is for a whole day so one could hop on and off as many times as possible. I think next time I’m Glasgow, I will opt in for a 2 day ticket which is more economical and one can use it for 2 days.
G. J.
Absolutely brilliant service. Used the buses for 2 days and every member of staff were so courteous and helpful. Liz, our guide on Tuesday, was so knowledgeable..... more like a living encyclopedia!! She made it so interesting.
D. L.
We started at stop 1 near Queen Street Station on the lower level of the bus which was unfortunate. Hard to see anything and the guide commentary was taped. We were given ear plugs to listen but much too soft to hear much. After the first stop at the Glasgow Cathedral we made the second level and viewing was much better. Also had a live person, Donna, as our guide. She provided a lot of good information and was very pleasant. We stayed on until the end a really enjoyed her commentary.
J. T.
Excellent way to see the sights and learn some of the history of Glasgow with clear dialogue through headphones. On the 2nd day we stopped off at the Riverside museum and then Kelvingrove. Both excellent. Would certainly recommend.

A small nice and cosy city.
R. F.
Best way to get around and see the "new" Glasgow as well as the many historic buildings and sites. Hop off and on option let's you spend extra time in places if you want or otherwise just chill and effortlessly see the sites.
D. A.
Great way to see Glasgow and visit attractions. Buses go every 10 minutes and you can just hop on and off. £15 per adult for 1 day, worth it, you can pay cash on the bus or card at stop number 1. Gone for a live tour guide and Peter, our guide, was amazing! Informative, funny with great singing voice! Would definitely recommend the live tour guide!
C. B.
Best way to get round the city and super tour guides too. Very friendly ans knowledgeable. We were glad we did the 2 days!
H. S.
Great tour of Glasgow. Very informative tour guide! Really should be your first thing to do in Glasgow to get the "lay of the land"!
P. Y.
Great service, staff are helpful and friendly. 21 stops with some interesting place to visit.
M. M.
After years of promising myself we trued it & really enjoyed it. Hop on hop off to allow u to visit some Glasgow sites was an added benefit. Recommended
D. D.
Lovely tour, great guide, just 1,5 hours and you have seen the highlights of Glasgow. 16 pound without concession.
j. s.
Had a wonderful tour on the City Bus, with friends that were visiting from Poulton le Fylde. Campbel was an amusing and amazing guide, and Stuart a wonderful driver. My friends loved seeing the wonderful sights.
I. S.
An excellent way to spend a day seeing parts of Glasgow thar I hadn't given a second glance at in the past.
Very informative commentary too.
i. b.
Great tour to go on. I went with a friend from overseas and enjoyed the day. Informative and friendly staff
A. V.
Lovely experience with tour buss, affordable and can travale all day round, headphone provided and guide talking through while you enjoy beautiful view.
S. T.
Excellent, decent value too used it to get to hydro area and then the second day to complete tour and get back to George Square
E. P.
Absolutely brilliant way to see the city very relaxing I recommend sitting on and doing the whole tour then having an on and off day. Lovely staff
M. v. G.
Really nice, informative, and enjoyable. Highly recommended!
T. L. W.
Always interesting and fun way to visit cities. Very cool they have a music themed audio guide
J. K.
Tour was good got to see main landmarks and sightseeing places of Glasgow within 2 hours
I. B.
Wot a wonderful day my husband and I had the commentator donna was wonderful she sang and joked gr8 give her 5 stars for that was such a pleasure 2 be on her bus
L. M.
Been on s number of these around the world. One had conductor who told us about the route ,really good. Another bus just had a recorded message and I was surprised how much I enjoyed that as it was different enough
Bit pricey though
E. H.
Great content, reliable timetable, and a perfect solution for an overview of Glasgow starting from near SEC.
J. M.
Nice ride around the city and the narrative was informative. Wish I stayed longer in Glasgow.
D. M.
Hop on and off at the major attractions at Glasgow!! Best way to see around Glasgow. Tickets can be purchased online or at the main stops. The maps are detailed and help you find useful information for each stops. Trips can be planned based on your preference as you can spend more time you need at your favourite stops.
W. M.
Great hop on hop off service.
Had 1 complete tour to select where to hop off on the next tour, repeated 2 more times and following day for an extra pound. Good value.
A. H.
I have lived I glasgow all my life, but have never done any sightseeing things. I really.enjiyed being a tourist for the day and found a lot of facts on the way.
J. H.
Brilliant tour, great way to see the city
Y. T.
Great tour, well informed guide.
c. c.
Great experience seeing Glasgow, definitely worth doing.
My only critique would be that it can be quite hard to find the stops, the one we waited had had nothing on it to show it was a stop for the sightseeing.
G. W.
Really great well worth every penny
C. l. R.
Great experience, very enlightening. Best way to see Glasgow
D. M.
Good tour going to all the main places. Total tour length is just over one and a half hours. Recorded commentary is good but the live was a bit hit and miss dependant on who you get I suppose.
H. M.
It's all about the guide. Stay on the bus whose guide offers you a fun experience.
P. H.
Very good way to get to see the points of interest in the city. Unfortunately picked a bad day to tour , Marching Season 😕
N. L.
Well worth bus tour around Glasgow
M. A.
Though it is not a long trip,it is really worth it,adding one pound to use ride on for extra 24 hours also.
J. W.
Good journey, but Neil Oliver doing the narration disappointed me. He is not a renowned Historian, he's an overrated TV presenter.
L. C.
Great way to see all the sights. Commentary was very informative.
R. G.
actually it was a nice ride, although it was late and rather dark when we started, but it was worth it, it took us a while to find where the nearest bus stop, but we managed to catch the bus less than one hour before its last departure, we tried to bargain the driver to give us half price, because he told us that we will not be able to do the complete rout, because we started late, but he said he cant do any discount, so we paid the full fair
A. S.
The tour was very informative and bus service regular, one downside is my partner is deaf and there is no written information for deaf people to read along with as the tour goes on, lucky I could sign for her, but a deaf person on their own has no information or way of telling which stop the bus is coming to or how frequently the bus comes.
M. B.
This bus tour is the best!!! Wish that i had gone in it the moment that I arrived in Glasgow. I did the full tour twice. Once with the audio and another time with the guide. Good to have the different aspects, as the guide provided relevant details about places to eat etc
D. L.
Standard open top sight seeing bus tour. Hop on, hop off as many times as you like and late running (last bus around 2200) so can really be used all day. All of the main attractions and 2 different audio guides in English plus the live guides who are excellent and who give facts about different places so even if you go round several times you will hear something new!
H. C.
Would recommend this to anyone visiting the city. You can get off and on at many of Glasgow's sites.
R. M.
Very detailed tour guide with lots of info: both live and recorded tours were good. Did the two days for just one more pound. Sat on upper level at the front but it got too warm and also could not see because of rain: they need to install windshield wipers on the front top window! Moved down and it worked better.
J. H.
Easy to book and with friendly staff, we enjoyed this tour despite the rain. Having live commentary on the bus is a nice touch but there were times we could not hear properly. Reason for only four stars is that it felt like they were clutching at straws with some of the points of interest. About 7 related to Billy Connolly and some were clearly just filler, so the guide had more to say
S. F.
90min trip around Glasgow with earphones or live commentary. The earphones are available in many other languages.
The trip takes you around many of Glasgow's attractions and gives the history of this lively city.
We went on the bus for a round trip from George Square and decided where we would head to spend our limited time.
This was a well run, quality trip that leaves every 15mins throughout the day.
P. D.
Very nice tour. Tour guides were very knowledgeable.
j. c.
Great tour visiting all the major tourists sites. Buses are frequent and there is choice of guided tour or one with headphone translation. We had a guy called Steve who was very entertaining. Buses are half open on top, view is fantastic but it often rains in glasgow so it helps to take a coat and hat.
K. B.
Excellent but you are at mercy of traffic delays and 🚦lights that take ages...
T. S.
Very enjoyable informative city sightseeing tour of Glasgow. Very convenient hop on hop off stops. One of the best we have been on. Well worth the money. Highly recommended.
D. S. S. P.
Best way to view glasgow. Got on their buses with family and had an amazing tour. Tickets purchased from the bus stop. Went around wd a live commentator. He was half Scottish and half Irish. Amazing gentleman he was. Great sense of humour. Got off at two places and got into different buses. Audio commentary was good as well. Got down at George street in the end. Thanks guys.
D. S.
If you ant to see the city of Glasgow I'm a short space of time this is the tour to do. I absolutely loved this tour as it gave lots of information and history on this great city. A definite must do when visiting.
B. M. (.
I loved the round trip and the guided recording by Neil Oliver - perfect for a disabled traveller. Unfortunately when the bus stopped at George Square, it was packed to the rafters with rather inconsiderate people. I elbowed my way out at the University and picked up another service back to the city but I was almost pushed onto the floor by a man blocking the disabled seating. I caught a taxi back to my hotel. It was enough.

I emailed this review to the company first, their reply is below.
-
My family took your bus tour through Glasgow and I have several complaints to give you. Some of these have actually been stated by others in online reviews, but I looked past them or your customer service team had publicly dismissed them.
1) Audio tour guide - there is NO live tour guide, there is no actual tour guide on the bus, rather it plays a recording. While this is technically fine, in practice it works very poorly. Now I want to harp on this point because I saw another review mention there was no tour guide and the response HARSHLY refuted his claim, I'd say he was 75% accurate. The recording is generally of good content, however the driver seems to need to trigger when it takes place. The problem here is that the driver triggered commentary up to two blocks away from the actual sights. At certain points, this made it very difficult to actually FIND the place that the tour is trying show due to confusion. "on your left, you'll see a red brick building....", 2 blocks later that is a very ambiguous description.
2) Driver speed - the bus driver seldomly slows down, let alone stops, by the sights. When the driver is actually moving, it is VERY quickly (reviews also pointed out this fact) and as such you and up missing the landmarks entirely, racing to see or take photos as you whisk by. Pairing this with my first complaint, you have extreme difficulty taking in the beautiful sights.
3) Audio cutting off early - take this in addition to point one. On several occasions, the audio description would cut off early and the music would takeover again, only to soon after start the next description.
4) Dangerous general attention to guests - people, some seniors, were still climbing the stairs when the driver harshly accelerated to proceed with the tour. I expect this to be denied, and without any form of telematics in the vehicle its hard to prove one way or another, so take this as an advisory on the safe practices of your drivers.
In general, I'm severely disappointed in the quality of this tour, having taken others in other cities and by other organizations, I have lost a lot of faith in the tour company. For the price we paid (not competitive for what we got, I've seen that rebuttal as well), I expected much better service.

Thank you for taking the time to supply us with feedback regarding our tour.
In the Winter months we do not have live guides on board our vehicles but from April through to October this year we have Live Guides presenting a commentary on every second vehicle.
We can not provide this on every vehicle as our recorded commentary is in a number of different languages for our foreign visitors and in practice putting both pre-recorded and live guide on the same vehicle does not work due to people not being able to hear the headphones as they get drowned out by the guide.
Unfortunately you missed our Live Guided vehicles on this occasion.
Our Pre-recorded tour should be very detailed as there is over 3 hours of audio for the driver to choose from on a tour which lasts 1 hour 25 mins.
As you rightly state it is the driver who plays the audio and we have found over the years that this system is superior to any other on the market such as GPS led, but, only when done properly.
Our vehicles are indeed fitted with one of the industry leading telematics systems and our drivers here at City Sightseeing Glasgow have a very good score overall with all being in the “green zone” repeatedly week after week.
As well as our telematics system we also have CCTV on all of our vehicles which allows us to investigate any issues surrounding drivers not following best practice.
Indeed our company policy states that all drivers must allow passengers to sit down where “reasonably practicable” and as a trainer within the company I can assure you they hear this policy from me time and time again.
We have recently reviewed our running times and have given the drivers more time on the route and feedback we are receiving is that they are havin

Good service with plenty to see and do. Two day ticket is a great option to fit all the sights in.
P. J.
When ordering a 24-hours ticket with the driver, he informed me that it was not a 24-hour ticket but a 1-day ticket. That surprised me a little bit.
This meant, that when we boarded a bit after 15:00 we had to pay the same price, but would get less than half the service then someone who purchased their ticket at 09:30 A shame the tours end between 1800 and 1900.
We had just arrived in the city and had a good day for sightseeing. So we used the ticket that afternoon to see as much as possible from the city, and got off the bus three times to take a quick photo.
Many times, in various cities we have used different Hop On Hop Off services before. Always informative and you get a good view of the city. Same here in Glasgow.
B. A.
Fantastic, hop on and off. Or just stay put like we did as it was raining and we didn't have much time. Lovely commentary via ear phones, I think there were around 8 languages including Glaswegen - which was well worth a listen too!
S.
The bus tour was ok, though the live commentary was very repetitive and not always the easiest to hear or understand, as it just comes through loud speakers. I preferred the pre-recorded tour which you listen to through headphones but this is not available on all buses. The Ghoulish Glasgow recorded tour was fun, with the audio tour focusing on the more gruesome details of Glasgows history.
I was disappointed with the ticket though. I bought a ticket for a Saturday, where on the Sunday the buses would not be running at all due to the majority of the roads in the city being closed. We expected to be able to get a two day ticket that would cover the Saturday and then the Monday but this was not possible. A two day ticket is far better value for this bus tour.

We visited Glasgow in Sep 2019.
So easy & convenient! Staff was super friendly - and the guide knew so much to tell about his city. Definitely recommended.
K. S.
Excellent! It was my first time doing a hop on hop off bus tour and this was so worth the money in a sprawling city like Glasgow. Very friendly service and frequent buses coming by, you never had to wait long.
R. S.
Very cool and informative. Love the river Clyde and learning all about the mercantile district and Glasgow's history. And was pleased to learn how to say Sauchiehall correctly.
i.
Before going to the airport, we booked the tour with the city hopper. The first three stations we were listening to the audio records from the bus - this was boring (same music all the time, short infos) and we decided to jump off at the stunning gothic cathedral.
The next bus (driver Ross) had a live guide on board: John.
This guy was fantastic and so exciting. He told so many interesting things and did it in such a good way that we would have loved to stay longer.. this proves why machines will never take over jobs like that!
Without him, 15 pounds would have been to much money. John saved your ratings guys!
M. D.
It is a bus trip in the city stops and a few locations cover the Glasgow city or a good way but the time is 15 minutes from each stop good and friendly driver I don’t like the system way like hearing from 38 you about the history can think you can go ahead and take it is the onlyThe only bus trip
G. H.
An excellent hop on hop off tour service, well worth the money given how spread out the major tourist attractions in Glasgow are.
E. M.
Love my home city, not perfect but where is
F. V.
The bus takes you to all the important destinations in Glasgow. It's a nice deal for 1 £ more to have a two day ticket.

Great tour and although lots of places were closed due to Covid, we still saw some beautiful sights and were able to plan what to do post Covid. Being able to hop on/off is great too.
M. M.
Great tour and very informative too bad it was ruined for us by a really rude and nasty diver that really seemed to hate firstly his life and secondly his job. Reckless driving and not very professional, very rude when aproached and not welling to answer any questions.

(Translated) Very nice and easy way to discover Glasgow. Sights are easily accessible due to the many stops. Pretty cheap and can be extended to two days for just £1 pp. A maximum of 15 minutes waiting at a stop for the next bus (during most of the day, otherwise 30 minutes). Some buses have a live guide on board, while others only allow you to listen to digital commentary (via earphones that are available for free). Only downside is that it was initially not clear that the stop/stop of a hop-on-hop-off bus corresponded to that of a regular city bus.
(Original)
(Translated)
Exactly how you imagine the tour and how you know it from other cities.
The buses are not as new as in Edinburgh, but otherwise everything was fine.
P. G.
(Translated) Allows you to tour the main places to visit in Glasgow. A little expensive but allows you to get around easily and to have comments (be careful not all buses offer comments in French because the earphone sockets do not work, so for some you have to be satisfied with the guide sitting in the bus who comments in English).
Price can be a little high (16 pounds for the day) but will remain lower than a taxi or Uber
(Original)

(Translated) Great Hop on, Hop or bus that took us through Glasgow. Nice ride, good explanation on the headphones, of course in six languages and all kinds of information. Get out where you want, including The Riverside Museum, highly recommended. Cozy student city with many sights. 'A must see'.
(Original)
The Riverside Museum, een echte aanrader. Gezellige studentenstad met heel veel bezienswaardigheden. 'A must see'.

(Translated) Super easy, the Hop On, Hop or through Glasgow. Park at the river museum for 10 pounds per day and get on it immediately. Simple and every 15 minutes a new bus. In the bus there is clear audio guidance via earphones that are supplied in the bus.
If you want to see the city well and do not want to go on long walks, then this is a great solution.

The tours are good, not every bus offers translation, you should ask the bus driver before boarding!

Sehr empfehlenswert.

(Translated) A great way to easily move around the sights in Glasgow. The choice of the coach with guidance in English turned out not to be very happy because the supervisor was played loudly through the speakers via the microphone. Fortunately there is a bus with a multilingual version (from a tape) where you get free earplugs and in addition to the sound strength you can also choose from 8 languages where we liked the voice of the Schot Neil Oliver: he also kept his mouth shut occasionally. ..... Sitting on the part with the open deck turned out to be laborious because of the many tree branches that the bus can throw. The information spoken along the way is plentiful but interesting.
The frequency of driving was also excellent, so you never had to wait long for transport. It is a pity that the last bus departs relatively early, but because almost all museums are closed, that makes sense.

Admittedly not cheap, but for just a pound surcharge the ticket is valid for two days and it is simply ideal for exploring Glasgow's sights with the hop on - hop off bus. We liked it very much

(Translated) I love the tour buses because you learn a lot about the cities you visit without getting tired and without exhausting the kids. The worker at the George Square stop has been very kind and the drivers too. Clear and helpful explanations. For example, we have found out that all the museums that depend on the city council are free. I like to take the ticket at the beginning of the trip to first get to know the city and know what things we want to visit. Only for two more euros, we have it for two days with the whole family. That is, 34 pounds two days four people. I totally recommend it.
