Reviews of English Holiday Cruises Ltd

We've recently returned from the Heritage Cruise on the MV Edward Elgar which we really enjoyed - exceeding our expectations. The cruise was lovely and tranquil interspersed with some interesting places to visit, the boat was comfortable, the food was good and the wine plentiful. Captain Louis and his welcoming and professional crew looked after us very well and managed to maintain high standards in spite of an awful accident away from the boat that left us without our chef. Managing Director Jay stepped in and amazed us with his culinary skills. Thank you all. We would thoroughly recommend a trip on the MV Edward Elgar.

Some great cruising to be done right here in English waters. Good brochure to muse through not cheap but you pay all inclusive. I hope to save and do it whilst I can.

Everything about the experience was fantastic!
Rooms were small (understandably!) but were more than comfortable and very well equipped. The saloon, bar and decks were impeccably kept. Bar very well stocked and reasonably priced.
Food was amazing! Fresh produce was cooked daily by the very talented Miles. Drinks were included at meal times and topped up regularly!
And the staff.... They worked so hard and did a terrific job from booking to disembarking.
I really cannot recommend this company enough - I look forward to my next excursion with them 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

We were looking for a River Boat Hotel to ascertain if there was such a type of boat. We saw an advert for English Holiday Cruises in a magazine and decided to get a brochure. We are really pleased that we booked as it was a holiday that was totally different to anything that we had experienced before. The information provided after the booking was very clear and precise. The holiday we selected was the Seven Wonders of the River Severn which was for 6 nights/ 7 days. The captain and his crew were really excellent at all times. All meals were included together with drinks at mealtimes. The cabins were great with en-suite showers, toilets and very comfortable beds. The whole experience was very relaxing and easy to enjoy. We would recommend this company to any other people considering a hotel boat cruise.

The MV Edward Elgar is a very comfortable hotel boat. The crew are excellent. The food is a great credit to the chef. Every one worked hard to ensure we all had a good holiday despite the vagaries of tide and storm surge.

My wife and myself under took the longest cruise on offer the 6 night holiday and glad we did as all places of interest to us included. We opted for the package which included a nights accommodation at a very good holiday with breakfast the night before we sailed and free car parking in a safe multi story car ark. Well worth it. The price was very good for the facilities offered including free mini bus, or taxi from boat to attraction even if only a quarter of a mile away in case raining or someone had difficulty walking. On board bar prices very reasonable. A guide available at each attraction visited. Everyone on our trip (21 passengers in 11 cabins) very much enjoyed the experience. Crew were always helpful, attentive and very hard working. Food served on board was excellent and a different interesting meal each breakfast, lunch time and in the evening. Some weeks prior to sailing passengers could say which foods allergic to and which foods disliked so the boats chef could cater accordingly. Captain kept us informed of places we were passing / about to visit and the 2 nights evening entertainment on board was first class. Cabin well fitted out to make the most of the space for storage. A first class shower that really worked even when others using the water supply, temperature and water pressure remained constant. We enjoyed the holiday very much and just as good as the European cruises available but with much less hassle to get to the starting point. We would recommend the holiday without doubt. We went based on a neighbour's recommendation - they enjoyed the cruise twice in the two years prior to us going. JOHN JONES, STAFFORDSHIRE.

Another great cruise from Steve and his crew. Nothing is too much trouble, the crew are so friendly and the food Miles puts out is very right in all ways.
Yes, we will be back next year as we have many times.
No pressure, no formality just plan relaxation Plus Quoits !!!!!

We started our Severn River Heart Of England Cruise with a coach ride from Hatherley Manor to the Gloucester Docks where we boarded the hotel ship, Edward Elgar. After being shown to our cabins we came up to the saloon to introduce ourselves to the rest of the group we would be travelling with that week. While the weather was windy, cold and rainy when we left, by late afternoon it was nice and sunny for the first leg of the trip to Tewkesbury Ham where the River Avon meets the River Severn. We moored there for the night. At 4:30 we had a nice cream tea and about 2 hours later all of us sat down for a wonderful dinner.
The next day, after a full English breakfast, we left for Worcester and moored less than a 100 yards from the cathedral. We divided into two groups and had a great tour of Worcester Cathedral. If one was interested in pottery and porcelain, a visit to the porcelain museum was available.
Each day the vessel proceeds through one or more locks which opening and closing of the locks is interesting in itself . It is hard to believe as you approach the locks that the Edward Elgar will fit inside the lock. It is also nice that as you are almost level with the dock master, you can talk to them about the river, locks and ongoing traffic that come through the locks.
The 3rd day you cruise from Worcester to Stourport. Upon arrival you are given a packed lunch that you ordered at breakfast and catch a coach next to where the vessel docked and proceed to Bewdley. At Bewdley you then catch a steam train for a tour on the Severn Valley Railroad. It is a jump on and jump off trip if there is a station or village you wish to see. We took the train to to Bridgnorth, explored the town and saw the beautiful city park and castle ruins. It was really a relaxing and leisurely way to spend the day.
The 4th day we left for Upton-Upon-Severn. Upon arrival we took a guided tour of the town before visiting the Tudor House Museum which is a very nice regional museum containing 19th and early 20th century artifacts.Early evening we returned for Captain's Cocktail hour and then dinner and live entertainment. One of the guests also played the piano at the live entertainment break which was hugely appreciated by the other guest on board.
The 5th day we left Upton-Upon-Severn for Tewkesbury and arrived mid morning to either walk or take a coach to the Tewkesbury Abbey for a guided tour. Once again we divided into two groups for a guided tour of the Abbey which made us want to see Gloucester Cathedral once we returned to Gloucester as both buildings were built by the same builder or group of masons. After the Abbey tour we took a pontoon boat ride , again in two groups, on the River Avon. There is always time to walk along the river paths or into the villages the boat moors next to each evening or afternoon. We had our final dinner together with our travelling companions of the week and recalled all the wonderful times we had together that week.
The 6th day we left from Tewkesbury for Gloucester Harbor. After a full English breakfast and saying our farewells to many newfound friends, we disembarked shortly before noon.
It was a wonderful trip and one we would recommend.
