I had a most memorable day with Taibi, in Kyoto! It didn't feel as if I was with a guide. I felt like I had known him all my life. He's Moroccan, but has lived in Japan for over 20 years so had extensive knowledge of Kyoto. He took me to the places where the locals hang out and made sure that I didn't feel like a tourist. Hands down the best experience I've had and I travel quite frequently. I legit didn't want to leave. Saw so much of Kyoto in 8 hours and now I'm planning my next trip back! 🙌🏾

We had such a wonderful time with Marco on our trip to Lake Como. He was very communicative prior to the trip about what we wanted to do and timing. He had several options depending on our interests so it was great that it was personalized to us.
It was myself and my mother in law for the day and he organized the train travel and ferry schedules. He was very knowledgeable about the cities around Lake Como and had some great stories but was also so easy to talk to to pass the time on the train rides. He gave us some great recommendations for dinner and shopping we took advantage of!
Would very much recommend Marco and this private experience.

Roberto was amazing! We had the best time on the food tour of CDMX with him, it was one of the highlights of our stay in Mexico City. He has such great local knowledge, and the food was incredible and plentiful. Roberto is also such a great guy, friendly and fun, it was like hanging out with a good friend. We got a great introduction to authentic local food and ate at places we would never have found on our own. We loved that the experience is not prescriptive, he really tailored the experience to us. He also continued to send us local recommendations after the tour to help us have the best trip. Would highly recommend this tour. Thank you Roberto!!!

Wow! Our afternoon with Stefano made for a great start to our trip to Munich. While two of us had been there before, two were new to the city, and Stefano made sure the places we visited were perfect for everyone. From our walk in the English Garden to our time in the Old City, Stefano gave us an overview of Munich that had us feeling like locals in no time. Stefano tailored every aspect of our trip to suit our interests and energy levels (which was great, because we had just stepped off an overnight flight from the U.S.). But for all the charms Munich had to offer, the high point of our day was our time with Stefano himself, who proved to be a smart, elegant, caring person we felt we made a genuine connection with. Highly recommended!

We loved our tour with Ricardo. I had quite a long list of sight-seeing to visit on our 8 hour tour. We hit them all plus we were able to fill in with a couple of surprises (a custom glove shop, a delicious seafood lunch at Ramiro and a secret spot with beautiful tile). I cannot recommend Ricardo enough. We loved Lisbon and we owe that to Ricardo. Top notch!!

We booked the "Eat like a local - tour" to try local food, which we hadn't decided by ourselves.
Our guide Michael wrote us some days before to ask again what food we didn't like.
After meeting at Grand Place we started the tour with a Belgian waffle. Then we walked a little bit away from the centre. During walking we got some information about Michael himself and Brüssel.
In the first restaurant he choose two different meals for us. In the second restaurant then a third one. All three meals were very good. During eating we also had a nice conversation about all and sundry.
For dessert we got some chocolates and a brownie, because we wanted something sweet.
All in all the three hours went by in a flash because of good food and nice conversations.
This tour is recommendable.

Monika was our local guide in Stockholm. we were amazed at how much she has already experienced and moved herself at such a young age. Her knowledge of the city, its history, culture and view of the future was impressive. We had a very pleasant 4 hours on the tour that flew by. We could have continued listening to her forever. It was the best decision to book a local guide and our luck that we got Monika. We wish her all the best for the future but with her ambition and determination she will rock it. And if she later receives the Nobel Prize herself, we can proudly say: she showed us her city. 😎

If you can get Atilla as your tour guide, you will be nothing short of blessed. The time spent with him flew by. It was as if we were life long friends and he was just showing me around his city. He took me to some well known places, but my favorite parts were the ones that were unknown gems. He was very knowledgeable, bright, caring and had a heart of gold. He knew all the right places to go and made me wish that I had longer than a 14 hour layover in Istanbul. WHEN I go back again, I will be sure to book with him again. He was just that good. You won’t regret it.

My husband and I booked a Sydney Layover Tour with a Local on our way to Tasmania. We really only had a short stay between flights! Our tour guide John was on the ball. The company reached out early with plenty of time asking us for our interests. With the time and interests they crafted an itinerary for us to review and adjust as needed. John met us at the airport and helped us to navigate the public transportation and locate luggage storage, that he scoped out for us to use.
John was a great tour guide for us! Very helpful and knowledgeable. I really felt I had a local guiding me. Good, friendly rapport, John made friends with everyone and generally enjoys talking with people. It was a very good introduction to how nice the people of Australia are! He is very into local activities and government and was happy to explain things to us that we would not have known about. When we walked down a street that had a historic display that was removed he immediately knew which city representative he was going to reach out as soon as the tour was done.
From John I get the sense that the tour guides really care about the work they do and take a lot of pride in it. On the tour John showed us a lot of things he had paid out of pocket to preview in advance, and since he had gone the extra mile was able to explain to us what these locations were.
For the tour itself it's important to remember that you are paying for the local guide, and any other activities are not included even the ones the guide has worked with you on to make your itinerary. My husband had planned it so I wasnt aware of that coming in to it. Despite the cost, for us to have our 10 hour layover (total to go through customs, and back through on a flight) and get a Sydney experience I think we got to see as much as we did because we had a local tour guide helping us get on trains, ferries, navigating walkways, etc. It would have taken us a lot of research and time to get an experience like we had on our tour in such a short time.

I'd definitely recommand CityUnscripted! I loved the survey at the beginning to find you the perfect guide based on your interests and preferences.
We had a very good tour with Naomi in Montreal last November. Naomi showed us beautiful and not so famous places in Montreal and told us interesting stories about the city and its history.
She was very nice and knowledgeable about the whole city. We really enjoyed the tour!
As small point of improvement: we sometimes had to ask for explanations or the stories (which she knew, but she didn't automatically tell us about it). The tour would have been even better if all the stories, explanation and infomation would be told right away :)
