Reviews of Cultural Experiences - London Chinatown
A. M.
Beautiful area. Mixed of cultural stuff from the East from food to products. Always buzzing during the day and night.
Love how colourful the lanterns brighten up the place.
The designs and writings on the gates are awesome. Makes you feel like you are in China.
E. B.
Chinatown boasts buildings and streets decorated with Chinese symbols such as dragons and lanterns. Keep an eye out for street signs, which are written in English and Chinese.
Find stone lions, contemporary art sculptures and Chinese gates as you explore the area, and don’t miss Chinatown’s fourth gate on Wardour Street. Completed in 2016 and built in traditional Qing dynasty style, it is the largest Chinese gate in the country. All these impressive decorations make perfect photo opportunities and give an insight into Chinese culture and religion, particularly during seasonal celebrations.

Amazing, lots of restaurants my favourite was the korean one, there is many shops including a japanese and Korean place, 2 selling qipao's and other traditional items and food markets selling things like snacks and noodles. China town also has many boba places and a bakery which was extremely popular
A. B.
A nice experience. I had some Chinese food and I enjoyed myself. However there was a street preacher who made lots of noise.
F. A.
Food okay, quality of fried chicken in many places wasn't great.
O. O.
I LOVE china town! If you have never been, please go! There’s dozens of restaurants,(new Long Fung is a great one) and little shops. The atmosphere is amazing, lots of people from all over visiting with big smiles on their faces.
D. M.
Lovely food, definitely recommend
s. f.
I absolutely loved China town. Plenty of restauraunts, chinese street food and several Chinese bakers where you can buy small pastry Koi carp filled with custard, cooked in front of you £2.20 for four. Top tip wait for them to cool as the custard inside is very hot. Even had buskers in the evening which drew the crowds.
A. N.
Good market with majority restaurants and shops selling chinese stuffs. Acupuncture and massage parlours, event squre etc..
L. J.
Such a cute set of streets, full of restaurants
N. A.
Lovely food, lovely ambiance and exceptionally nice people. The Taro bubble tea and bubbwrap were amazing.
M. C.
You can feel like in little China there. You can have all sort of service, even massage :) My only concern was the smell of this place. Street on the front of few shops stinks so much that even mask can't stop it. It must be due some "speciality" food. But worth to see when you're in London.
A. N.

All China food and items are available here.
Asian food. Different kinds of restaurants. But amazing place to understand a little about their culture.
Good for seek to late night supper or east groceries shopping.
In the night lighting is so intresting.
Enjoy a lot with family and friends.
D. A. T. E.
Such a fantastic icon and a brilliant place to be with an exciting vibe.
Cobbled streets made it hard for him to push me and an uncomfortable ride in the wheelchair, unfortunately the smooth pavements outside shops had queues of customers trying to buy or get a table.
Street signs like every other tourist place reminds people to be mindful of their possessions.
Hundreds of places to eat, all streets decorated with lanterns and loads of bright colours, absolutely stunning.
L. Y.
Always a nice place for food
L. L.
Nice place to visit in London. Variety of colors and lanterns. Large selection of Chinese restaurants and take away.
The place looks nice especially in the evening, when is dark.
Y. G.
It's even better with lockdown (perhaps not in the business's favour), however I found it lovely when it's not bustling and overcrowded. There's a couple of shops still open and I loved the overhead hanging lanterns today! Chinatown, I love you ❤️
J. P.

Your first stop for London's Chinatown: find authentic restaurants, fun activities, shops and more.
Chinatown is an ethnic enclave in the City of Westminster, London, bordering Soho to its north and west, Theatreland to the south and east. The enclave currently occupies the area in and around Gerrard Street

If you are visiting London you need to visit Chinatown. You will find all kinds of Asian restaurants, some of those are fancy and some are simple and in a good range of prices. Or you can just walk in this area and enjoy the colorful places and the decoration in the streets. It is not too crawded if you visit early in the morning.
A. P.
Has a range of Chinese restaurant with similar and difference to cuisine...very friendly and approachable, can get busy and pack...make sure to come early and enjoy!!...be careful of street scammers selling balloons.
C. d. M.
The most famous landmark in chinatown. The area is surrounded by numerous Chinese restaurants, pubs and other eateries. The lanterns above add a nice touch to the ambiance. The closest underground is Leicester Square.
P. J.
Chinatown is one of the most happening places in London. Placed in the Soho area, when you come here for the first time you will feel like you have come to another world itself. Filled with plenty of super awesome Chinese restaurants which serve some delicious authentic Chinese food. From chicken, duck, beef you ask it and get it. Always filled with people walking and taking pics, this is the best place to come as a travelor to explore this exciting world of its own ! So do visit and enjoy 👍

Chinatown in the heart of the west end is found between Leicester Square & Picadilly Cirus. It's also home to one of the best bubble wrap dessert shops in London.. not to mention all the Chinese traditional restaurants. A great place to go when you're hungry!
a. a.
grab some of those little Taki's filled with custard cream. buy some pandan cake and walk in the atmosphere. Not to be missed if you come passed Leicester Square!
T. B.
Lovely tourist area
U. E.
Despite the lockdown, Chinatown was AMAZING. Not too sure about the gate thought (only because I have a phobia of statues) but it looks so colourful, with the lights and all. Some stores doing takeaways and with their tables set up outside makes it feels like actually walking through the streets of China and trying out the street food. It's a shame I didn't take a picture but I'll recommended just taking a stroll. Honestly ❤️
D. V.
Beautiful place to visit in london. Best place to eat
A. S.
Mega tasty food.
P. H.
Typical Chinatown just off Leicester Square. There's a few decent Chinese eateries there. However, not worth the efforts to get there but if you are in the surroundings (such as Trafalgar Square or Leicester Square), then this good to do a small detour to go to Chinatown.
R. R.
It is the gateway to china Town, it's a land mark in it self. They have also recently changed the overhead lanterns so it looks so much more colourful.
M. H.
Nice place. Lots of food
M. B.
One of the most interesting places I've visited in London. It has it's own charm.
J. A.

A. R.
Is pretty crowded most of the time , but has a lovely feel to it
T. H. K.
This is one of my favourite places in London. Here in Chinatown London you can really feel the meaning of an ethnic enclave. The remarkable Chinatown Gate is beautiful and worth of taking a selfie.
You will find a lot of authentic Chinese restaurants and super markets here where you can taste all the typical and special Chinese dishes.
I am also very fond of the little Chinese statues found in this area (depicting a lion for example) and the lanters, which are hanging all over the streets.
So to make it short: If you want to experience a piece of China here in Europe and explore the largest Chinatown in this continent then hit this place while you are visiting London.
O. N.
Nice place with several great restaurants.
f. c.

Minji is a wonderful host and it was lovely to spend the afternoon with her learning about China Town in London. She gave us a map with her restaurant recommendations which was an amazing bonus! I really enjoyed going into the tea shop. I never would have gone there on my own and it was fascinating learning about the history of it. I would highly recommend this to anyone visiting London and to anyone that lives here!
Y.

I lived in the UK for 8 months and I know Chinatown but Minji gave to us a total different experience, I would recommend to do it even if you live in London. I asked a friend yesterday if he know why British add milk and sugar in the tea, and he did not know. I could explain to him because of Minji's experience. Excelent for families and also for a friend's virtual party! Thank you Minji and looking forward to other virtual experiences in London!!! Cheers from Brazil!!!!

The China Town neighbourhood in London, is a perfect place if you look for Chinese food or asiatic stuff. You can actually feel like in Asia and everything around you reminds something of Beijing. China Town is very close to other important and very central neighbourhoods.

Great trip even on a hot day
T. W.
Too much Chinese restaurants which put a lot of pressure on you to join them. 20% price cut or more... no time to see or think it over... sorry NO!
There are better places to see
D. P.
As a Chinese lover, I had to visit this place. Only women who beg here spoil the impression. Unfortunately, these are almost everywhere. The others are absolutely great.
E. 3.

Chinatown in London...
Food lovers paradise...
Lots to see and plenty of quality food to eat.

In center London a small isle of concentrated Chinese culture. The door is fantastically decorated and everything around was really lively.
J. R.
I've never been to Chinatown Gate before but it looked brilliant. Loads of fascinating things to look at with loads of colour.

This was very beautifull! I would recomend it if you are in London!
J. R.
Lots of places to eat at very reasonable prices. Half a duck, dim sum & a pork dish with noodles for 2 people £38. You can get cheaper set menus in other restaurants.
A. C.
Lovely place. Lively and friendly. Reminds me of my days in China and Singapore.
N. A.

N. T.
A must do when you go to London if you want some authentic Cantonese/Chinese food. Many Cantonese speakers here.
D. G.
Beautiful place. I'm sure I'll come back to see it again.
L. S.
Really beautiful but currently covid central. I'm not a covid fanatic and even before covid I enjoy personal space a lot. And there is zero consciousness of that.
S. A.
Some really nice Chinese restaurants and lanes for a wander. During Chinese new year this place looks even better
J. D.
Chinatown is amazing amazing food and friendly people
A. D.
Chinatown gate and Chinatown town is a lovely neighborhood of London.
G. M.
Always a great place to walk through
S. C. M.
The snell of all the amazing restaurants are amazing. The m and m works and lego shop are always fun to walk into. Overall, I had fun with my friend
t. s.
Chinatown in the heart of the west end is found between Leicester Square & Picadilly Cirus. It's also home to one of the best bubble wrap dessert shops in London.. not to mention all the Chinese traditional restaurants. A great place to go when you're hungry!
P. T.
So many good foods with good prices. The place is massive with delicious food choices. Many shops are located very closed to each other. Keep in mind that they will charge you fees for the service even though there are a couple of people for the table. Prices are reasonable and please do research before you head out there to know what kinds of foods you prefer to eat.
C. S.
Very colourful, lots of exciting sights and smells to tempt you?
S.
Nice piece of Chinese culture in London, makes for a nice walk around the Chinatown, which makes it feel like you're in a different country altogether.
Can be very busy at time as its central london, so be wary
C. C.
Nice place but with a lot of people, like a real chinese street.
A. P.
Beautiful smells of authentic cooking enhances a great cultural part of London
M. J.
Beautiful atmosphere we visited right before the Chinese new year and everything was full with lanterns.
You can find a few good stores and restorants but sadly it's easy to pick a really bad place if you don't read reviews before hand
C.
This random lady wanted to steal my money...
T.
Brilliant meal and experience
n. B.
Absolutely wonderful and diverse.
P. B.
Vibrant location and pretty good place to go if you are hungry!!
J. G.
Love going into London. Vibrant atmosphere most times.
M. H.
Quite run down from the time I used to know it years ago! China Town has changed for the worst. The restaurants provide substandard service, the staff are rude and abrupt, the prices are inflated with quality of food low.
However, the products in the supermarkets have improved in quality and variety. It’s still difficult to negotiate your way round the massive clutter with hardly any space between the isles. Why on earth they don’t have spacious and user friendly interior in the shops like we have in Tesco, Asda or Morrison etc..?
G. H.
Always love coming to China Town.
R. T.
Nice pleace :)
a.
Love coming here to get Chinese food and explore. It’s a cute area for photos and food.
D. L.
ow We just walked down the main street through the Gate into Chinatown. The streets were lined with a myriad of restaurants and shops. Quite a lot of options available. The streets were lined with lanterns to give it a festive feeling. There were also quite a few entertainers on the streets. I also noticed a few interesting things on the side of buildings like a lion. Interesting place to visit even if we were just passing through.
K. W.
Ornamental Gate with traditional Qing Dynasty designs in the heart of London.Beast place for authentic restaurants and shops

The restaurants there are very busy and crowded. They squeeze you in, as long as you have a seat it doesn't matter who sits in your table and cash only. Very fast in and out. Food is excellent everywhere, seriously delicious.

N. M. W.
OK important thing to remember. A great Chinese restaurant will have Chinese people eating it and staff will a bit moody, And it will look a bit on the grubby side, there will be chicken feet and cold jelly fish and offer very non western meat. Do not be afraid to ask the waiter what the Chinese people are eating and order that.
T. V.
Nice place.

It's a standard Chinatown gate that you can see in most cities with a Chinatown so far as I'm aware. It's no better or worse than any other. Once you've seen one..
