Reviews of Footprints Tours Oxford
M. A.
I had never done a walking tour prior to this one. I arrived with no expectations. I was accompanied by my grandfather who had arrived from Pakistan so I was hoping that he would enjoy the tour.
We loved it. The guide, Megan had recently qualified as a historian from Oxford and was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Megan stopped at each location and explained the importance, history and current significance of each of them. I highly recommend the tour as it will exceed your expectations.
J. M.
Great tour, we had Daniel as our guide and he did such a good job. Very tongue in check humor, but respectful at the same time. Highly recommend this company and the service, great way to get an inside into Oxford.
A. C.
My friends and I enjoyed an excellent tour with Richard this morning. We learnt a lot about the history of Oxford and the University and visited several key sites.
Our tour included New College where we saw the dining room, chapel, cloisters and beautiful gardens. We enjoyed hearing about the rivalry between Oxford and Cambridge!
I liked that the tour kept moving whilst still giving us a few minutes to walk around some buildings ourselves.
Richard was very knowledgeable and approachable, answering many of our questions.
M. F.
Excellent excellent excellent free walking tour. Mary was one of the best tour guides I have ever been with. She was very enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and welcoming. 10/10. Not too much walking and the sites were interesting.
N. O.
Brilliant tour. Trevor was an excellent host and kept us very engaged despite the weather. Definitely worth visiting if you are interested in history!
F. B.
I loved out tour!! Anastasia was SUCH a good guide. She knew so much and was so funny. It was very entertaining - we're redoing it today, exciting!
R. A.
Excellent and informative tour! Great insight into student life, Oxford customs, architecture and more! Daniel was a wonderful guide. Highly recommend as an Oxford introduction
B. C.
We had the pleasure of a tour with Mary, who was absolutely delightful. She quickly took stock of her audience (a group of undergraduate students on tour), and deftly adapted her stories and delivery to them. She was very knowledgeable, and though we peppered her with questions, she was always ready with an answer or a clever response. She actively engaged with us, and was genuinely curious about the things we asked related to our academic discipline. 10/10, would recommend.
M. K.
We booked the paid tour. The group was -as promised- small so all of us could enjoy the entertaining stories that our guide, Anastasia, was telling. She did a great job keeping the group together and interested. We also appreciated the honest answers/her personal opinion she would give to our answers. As a student she can give a different view on matter. Great morning, the 2 hours felt short!

So it was a beautiful summers day...and the quint essential Oxfordian brown worn leather boots signified that my tour guide was well into his craft! The meeting time was perfect and exact and after a great breakfast with my friend I was ready to see Oxford by foot....So then came Isaac a great knowledgeable and fun guide to be with. There was intelligence written about him, I am sure. As an Architect I have never been so impressed by any guide. He was so knowledgeable with dates and facts and told wonderful stories that puts Oxford on the Map, he may be a map maker a connoisseur with a positive and vibrant energy, I have to say Isaac you made my day!! Thank you for showing me Oxford and everything a beautiful City has to offer. The next time I will bring my family and show the kids the colleges they need to aim for! I will go back to Yorkshire remembering the echoed whisper that I felt outside the courtyard in the New College. I could hear the sound and the intelligence just by the sound of a whisper, a place of great concentration.
Even if the Harry Potter tree was in the film for only 3-4 minutes, it was well worth it....and yes folks I did have to touch the tree with my friend and felt the magical aurora as a Gardener and as an Architect....and also the magic of the courtyard cannot be denied.
Footprints you are surely all truly and surely....amazing!!!
I am glad Issac represents the city of Oxford. The buildings are proud of you Issac!
P.S to Issac's mum, thank you for letting Issac do what he does!
H. B.
Brilliant tour with Oli, student of Balliol College, Oxford. Beautiful city. Parking was a nightmare,so leave lots of time to arrive early for your tour
M. L.
Jess was absolutely fabulous! She is a wealth of knowledge interspersed with a great sense of humor. She customized the tour to exactly the things my 15 year old son cared about and she didn’t get offended when he occasionally checked out. She didn’t mind stopping for him to grab a sandwich. I could have stayed with her all day and look forward to the day our paths cross again

We had a fantastic tour with our tour guide Oxford university student Gwendolyne yesterday who was at her initial days of tour guiding and she was incredible! She gave us so many fun trivia from history in such a fun and theatrical way, we were very pleasantly surprised to see how much a university student can be a such delight! Definitely go for this tour, nothing like listening about Oxford from an actual student! Don`t see Oxford by yourself!
j.
Can only recommend! We were lucky to visit Oxford on a lovely sunny day and have an amazing guide (Anastasia). The tour is very interesting and you get to see a lot of cool places.
C. V.
Fantastic guided tour! Our guide, Megan, was very knowledgeable, enthusiastic and encouraging of questions. I genuinely felt like I learned a lot more than your typical walking tour of Oxford. 10/10 experience!
A. G.
Amazing tour provided by a real Oxford student. Jamie was brilliant, funny and very informative!
R. C.
Fred gave a fantastic tour of Oxford, he kept us engaged and had great humour throughout the two hours. I usually am not engaged in tours but this one was by far one of the best I have had. You can tell he is very passionate about his work. 10/10
J.
Our guide Anastasia is great!👍 She showed us many interesting places. She gave us inspirations and taught us the history about different colleges. We would definitely recommend this tour!:)
P. K.
We took the free tour. Our tour guide Steph is a brilliant raconteur and gave us good context and relevant historical information on the key points of interest. If you take one of the free tours make sure you bring along a bank note to leave a tip at the conclusion of the tour. Its definitely worth it.
A. B.
We’ve just spent a memorable few hours walking around Oxford in the company of Daniel (a current student), who was a brilliant tour guide. He was knowledgeable, entertaining and fascinating to talk with about all sorts of topics related to the university, its history, and life in the city. It was the highlight of our weekend stay!
My only negative comment would be regarding the website which in my opinion is poorly organised! The same private tour appeared to have had 2 different prices depending upon how it was navigated to, and the booking page implied a degree of certainty that didn’t exist, ie we called to discuss a booking option on the website (which to me appeared ambiguous) to be subsequently told that there was no availability even though the website claimed 39 spaces.
As already stated the guide and tour itself was fantastic (hence the 5* rating) but just beware when booking that all options are not necessarily available (even if implied on the website), especially when trying to make arrangements at short notice.
F. J.
The tour was very interesting and engaging. Alison was a great tour guide. Nice to see parts of the city that you might otherwise miss. Definitely recommend.
D. C.
A tour is only as good as the tour guide. Our daughter took a tour with this company before recommending it to us. Apparently, Footprint Tours does a good job with their hiring. Our guide, Anastasia, was excellent! She was enthusiastic, knowledgable, articulate, and projected well above the din of city noise. She told engaging stories, and it was obvious she enjoyed her job. We all learned a lot and were happy with our decision to drive in for the day specifically to take a tour. Anastasa represents your tour company and the university extremely well.
P. K.
Trevor made our tour fun interesting and absorbing..great way to discover Oxford
D. C.
A lovely young student called Mar showed us round historic Oxford with a free 2-hour walking tour focused mainly on Oxford's many beautiful colleges.
She was friendly, knowledgeable and informative, without spending more than 5 minutes at any one location, so interest was maintained easily.
Can really recommend this as a quick, cheap and interesting overview of Oxford's most ancient architecture and the characters behind it.
L. H.
Amazing 2h free tour with Fred. We covered most of town, he was very knowledgeable and eloquent. We enjoyed his dry sense of humour and educated accent!
s. t.
We had a wonderful time in this tour. Our guide, Alex, was very knowledgeable and she gave a wonderful tour and explanation of the college's and surrounding structures. I would highly recommend this to anyone who likes a bit of history and information to back up the beautiful sights of the Oxford!
H. F.
We booked the bike & walk tour - really knowledgeable guide (Cosmo), lots of great places and info (we went much further afield with the bikes), and there was only 2 of us on the tour so we got to ask lots of questions and got lots of details. Perhaps a little overpriced, especially as the website said the price included use of the bikes for the rest of the day, which we didn't get to do (although in fairness, we didn't ask!), but overall a really positive experience.
h. n.
Jamie was absolutely fantastic! Charismatic, funny, and extremely knowledgeable. He answered any and all questions and even made sure to walk amongst us in the divinity rooms and point out things to each member of the group. I highly recommend the paid university tour for anyone visiting Oxford!
C. D.
Brilliant two hour tour around Oxford University. Jessica our guide was lovely and incredibly knowledgeable on the city and university, sharing lots of brilliant anecdotes from present day life to the history of the city.
L. C.
Jamie was a great guide, very energetic, informative and entertaining. We learned a lot of interesting things about Oxford. Thank you.
S. M.
Fred was an amazing guide. Perfect balance between sharing information and great sense of humour. A must if you have never been to Oxford and need a general overview.
P. R.
Excellent tour by a very entertaining, interesting and informative tour guide (German post grad student) and references to CS Lewis, Tolkien and Harry Potter were nice. Great to see inside Exeter College and the tour route was very good. Nothing was missed out. I would however have included more on King Charles's stay during the civil war and Oxford being the capital during that time, and maybe a bit less on the martyrs.
L. R.
We initially booked the paid tour but somehow we found ourselves wrongly with the free one; when we realised about it, company immediately offered us whatever we want to choose; we decided continue with the free Spanish tour and it was absolutely brilliant! It was a wonderful experience!
And all the money we have paid have been refunded without any problem at all!
They told me that they just want clients have a good experience, and definitely they made it!
T. S.
I spent 2 hours in a small group today visiting and learning about the lovely city of Oxford. Our guide was Patrick, a very nice young graduate, with a great bellowing voice and full of knowledge. I would definitely recommend him and Footprints. Now I need to soak my sore feet!
A.
We had a lovely time in Oxford!
Jessica was so knowleageble and funny.Even our little one was so engaged we loved every minute of the tour
L. M.
We've been to Oxford before, but still learned a lot on this tour. Our guide was Trevor, and he was terrific - entertaining and extremely knowledgeable. We'll definitley take another tour with Footprints when we get back to Oxford again!
D. T.
Received an excellent tour by Trevor in Oxford today, who provided us with an enlightening tour of the city. His depth of knowledge, both historically and culturally was excellent, clearly strong foundations from his degree in History at the university there. His tour was not simply rote learnt facts but flowed effortlessly between each location we were led to. I really enjoyed the tour and learnt a lot as a teacher of history myself. Would highly recommend Trevor and Footprint Tours Oxford for anyone looking to leave the city with a greater level of understanding than from when they came.
L. M.
This was a great free tour! It mostly focused on Oxford University rather than the town as the whole which I would have preferred but it was interesting none the less! I think our guide was named Trevor? A Canadian post graduate student- he had loads of great local knowledge and interesting facts :)
C. H.
Trevor was our guide he was a fountain of knowledge, charismatic and passionate about Oxford. He told a great story with enthusiasm. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour and learnt some fab facts. All thanks to Trevor's deliverance.
D. W.
Booked the freetour and Lewis our guide was absolutely fantastic. He brought the city to life in an enthusiastic and captivating way. His insight to University life was informative interesting & funny. Just book this tour you wont be disappointed!!
J. K. N.
We had a great time and learned a lot. Our guide Gwendy was amazing!
A. H.
A must do in Oxford. The free 2 hr walking tour was a fun and informative experience with our guide, Tom, making us laugh all the way. Quite the storyteller he is! :)
R. B.
Jo was really a good guide with in depth descriptions. We covered all the sites on my list and more. Loved it!
I. C.
Just finished the tour with Mark, a very bright young man local in Oxford. Really enjoyed the tour with him. Thanks to the COVID-19, we're the only travellers who booked the tour for the specific time slot so it’s like a private tour. Except the in-depth introduction of the history of the colleges, Mark and we also talked casually about other stuff, making the tour more personal and less commercial.
L. R.
Fantastic tour with Trevor on new years eve!
He was super enthusiastic, knew his stuff backwards and gave us a brilliant 2 hour tour
BOOK THIS TOUR!
D. B.
We did the tour of the Oxford universities today with our tour guide Gavin.
He was excellent and clearly had a lot of pride in the area he worked in and the University he served at. It was very informative, interesting and he was very engaging and we enjoyed a drink after at the Turf Tavern which was mentioned during the tour.
Thank you Gavin, highly recommend!!
G. L.
We had such a great time on this walking tour. Our guide Fred was so entertaining and really knowledgeable. Such a great way to see the city/university and learn its history. Would highly recommend!
C. S.
I'm not one for listening to one person for 2 hours, so wasn't too happy that my wife booked a 2 hour tour......
I was more than pleasantly surprised, and impressed with our guide, Jamie. She knew her subject, had done her own research on the history of Oxford, and she put it across in an interesting and informative way. Really did enjoy the tour.
P. R.
Amazing tour...informative and entertaining in equal measure. Very very recommended...we did the free tour with Trevor who was very good with the history and the fun stories about Oxford and its various Colleges. It takes about 2 hours and is at a good comfortable pace. Be ready for any weather as tour goes on as it should.
A. C.
I generally don’t like guided tours, so in planning for this trip, I was a big advocate for a more self-guided option. That said, even as a tour skeptic, I really enjoyed the £15 Oxford University & City Tour with Trevor. He was extremely knowledgeable, personable, and entertaining, and offered great insights both into the history of the University, and into current student culture. I’d highly recommend touring with Trevor; the two hours fly by, and are time well-spent.
(Note: Although this tour does go inside a few buildings at Oxford, which is great, a lot of the two hours are still spent outside, so if you plan to take the tour on a rainy day, bring a *good* raincoat and umbrella!)
J. 7.
Big thumbs up to Trevor for his fantastic job showing us a very enjoyable perspective of Oxford’s history and main landmarks, not sparing any enthusiasm, anecdotes or humor. His diction was remarkably clear, well paced and structured. The tour takes a couple hours and is thoroughly interesting and enjoyable, a must do!
J. P.
An incredibly interesting tour given by a current student at Wolfson College (I feel awful that I can't remember his name, but he was a long haired master's student that had previously done an undergrad at Cambridge).
I am genuinely shocked that this service is provided free of charge!
A. G. V.
Trevor was our guide. Performing the tour with him was really gripping. He caught our atention from the begining until the end. I fully recomend the visit with him.
k. h.
We had a lovely tour guide called Daniella she was very knowledgeable with her facts about Oxford University and Oxford itself. She was able to answer all our questions and she was very personable throughout, would recommend highly 👌
I.
Great location, easy to book. We did a 2 hours walking tour with a visit to Bodleian library, St. John's College and few other sites, really enjoyed it. We had Trevor as our guide, he genuinely loved telling us about Oxford and made it really enjoyable, we felt like being walked around Oxford with a good friend.
S. Q.
We did the 2 hour free walking tour of Oxford. Jo was our guide and she was extremely knowledgable about the area. We walked and stopped to talk so it wasn't overly strenuous. Very good way to learn about the University and town!
W. A.
Trevor made our tour experience memorable. His enthusiasm when sharing the history and facts about his "favourite city in the world" was captivating.
J. H.
The tour was historically interesting. We went around ten colleges and saw some court yards from the outside. This time we were not allowed in. The stories of famous people who went to Oxford was fun to hear.
D. B.
Loved the 2 hours footprints free tour. The guide (her name is Emily) was knowledgeable and she made the whole tour very interesting. It is difficult to tell about old traditions of oxford and also make the things interesting, but she did it nicely. Would love to take their paid tours in future.
A. P.
Went on the 2hr free walking tour and thoroughly enjoyed it! Massive thank you to Cosmo, who was super knowledgeable about the university and its traditions and a captivating storyteller! I had gone on another company's paid tour the last time I visited oxford and decided to try Footprints with some friends, and so glad I did because Cosmo delivered the right balance of university facts and random interesting stories. We didn't actually go inside any buildings apart from courtyards but understandble given it's a free tour based on tips. All the best for your exam results Cosmo!
A. M. B.
We went to Oxford for the day on March 4th, 2019 with my friends and had a guided tour with Trevor, who was very funny and kind to all of us! We had a great time listening to amazing stories and visiting iconic places. If you visit Oxford for the day, this is a MUST! And if you get Trevour as your guide, even better!!! 100% recommended!
m. m.
Amazing experience of getting to know such intricate details of Oxford's history & heritage!!

N. R. T.
Fantastic tour! We thoroughly enjoyed a 2-hr tour with Mar. It was highly informative, as she was very knowledgeable on the history of the campus and the well known students of it's past. Highly recommended!
M. R. G.
It’s a really interesting tour for getting a different point of view of Oxford. You’ll see the most iconic locations of the city and really enjoy the walk. The guy is really nice and his explanations get along history and the academic life. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it and I strongly recommend it!
M. B.
It was an amazing tour ! Our guide Trevor was passionate and the 2 hours went like 2 minutes ! I could have listened to him for hours !
Thanks for the tips and thanks for your enthusiasm !
It is easy to book and it should be the the first thing you do when coming to Oxford !
Thanks Trevor !
A. D.
This should be the first thing on everyone’s list as they venture into Oxford. Very knowledgeable young guide took us on a fascinating tour. Covering plenty of mileage, there was plenty of stories to be shared - one couldn’t come away wiser about the city. Stood me in good stead for the rest of the trip knowing where to visit next and what to return for.
S. A.
Had a very good experience. Trevor was our guide he is very knowledgeable, entertaining and enthusiastic. He has his own unique way of telling the history quiet enchanting. Recommend it to all. Don't give it a second thought. You will love it.

I took a two-hour walking tour with Xena. She was excellent at telling historic facts and interesting anecdotes related to college and former students. She was really nice and willing to answer tourists' questions. Excellent.
M. N.
Great way to learn about Oxford. We originally planned to do the free walking tour but wanted to see more of the buildings so we opted for the tour that you had to pay for. It was worth it!

Excellent tour with Trevor, informative, anecdotal, amusing and interesting. He patiently waited for the group to gather, was safety conscious and knowledgeable. We could all hear him too.
M. J.
The tour is completely depends on guide ,I have gone through both free and paid tours i enjoyed and understand more on free walking tour because guide was so good .On paid tours they just showed us trinity college and divine school from inside others are same as walking tours .Cost of the Tickets are high around 16 pounds .
R. C.
Great tour of Oxford, especially for the price. The guide was knowledgeable, funny, and helpful. A nice way to see a cool town.
M.
We had jacob, small group. He didnt seem to enthusiastic to be there, but he showed us around and gave us some facts. Our tour lasted 1.5 hours instead of 2 hours, but that's probably because we had a small group.
G. S.
Trevor is an excellent guide, which gave us a nice, funny and complete tour, full of anecdotal references.
C. S.
It was a really relaxed and funny, enjoyable tour. Finally not a boring one :D It was great to hear all about the colleges, their history and quirky stories.

J. S.
Excellent tour. Jamie is a wonderful guide highly informative would recommend to anyone visiting Oxford
G. F.
Interesting tour but little bit hard to follow because the guide speaks fast and not easy English. Consider it if you aren't native in English language although you've this language.

Très bonne visite de Oxford avec le super guide Trevor! Il explique très bien et semble tellement adorer Oxford qu'il nous donne envie d'en découvrir d'avantage. Il a un très bon charisme comme tous les autres guides semblent l'avoir aussi.

(Translated) I will do my review on Spanish to help other spaniards to find interesting.
We approached the meeting point at the time he put on his website and had been waiting for guides with a green, easily identifiable raincoat. The free tour in Spanish told us that it was not going to be done because the guide was indisposed, although they warned us and asked for forgiveness. With that, we joined the group with an English guide, Steffi, who made a very entertaining two-hour guide, explaining a lot of stories of the different buildings and personalities that have passed through there. A girl close and willing to have a good time.
Like almost all free tours, highly recommended.

I will do my review on Spanish to help other spaniards to find interesting.

(Translated) We did the Harry Potter tour with Romina in Spanish and we were delighted. It is an excellent guide that knows how to capture our attention, entertaining us with a lot of anecdotes and showing us the most emblematic places in Oxford. To say that Harry Potter was a little thing, but we loved it equally. In addition, I think this system that the tour is free giving in the end the amount we want is very useful, since it makes the people who carry out the tour try harder because we like it. In our case, we reserve online, to make sure we have room, for only ₤ 2 per head. As a summary say we would repeat for sure!
(Original)
V. G.
(Translated) Congratulations to Adam Tower for his help in the reservation, very nice and decisive, thank you very much.
And my maximum score is for Cristina, the best tourist guide I have seen, we have been today December 30 with her in Oxford and I can only say that it is EXCEPTIONAL.
(Original)
H. M.
(Translated) We did the free tour in Spanish with Romina. Very interesting and everything important is visited. You only visit the outside so it is recommended to have a couple of more days to see all the buildings inside.

(Translated) The grstuit tour is fine. But it's massive, and in the end, the tip comes out at the same price as the paid tour, where there are far fewer people.
On the other side, the two can also be made, since although the sites are repeated, in my case the explanation was different
