Reviews of Mount Batten Ferry
A. W.
This is an excellent service, always on time. Clean and well looked after, it's not very expensive.
C. E.
Went to Mount Batten for a sea dip/swim and used the ferry for the first time on Sunday - really easy to find, only 5 minute journey, £2 for a single and beautiful view of Plymouth if it's a lovely sunny day like it was when I went!
J. Y.
This is a great little ferry. Makes a trip into Plymouth just that bit more interesting. Park Mount Batten side and take the ferry over to the Barbican. (Free car park available also). At time of writing fare was £2pp each way.
G. H.
Only £2.50 one way is such a bargain and what a way to bring yourself closer to nature than ever. Such a help to one's mental health as well.
R. P.
An electric ferry - super impressed! Quiet & without causing a stink, reasonably priced and friendly staff - loved it!
H. P.
Very busy ferry crossing friendly staff and running to a timetable which is very reliable.
W. “. m. G.
Very good to shortly inaccessible for disabilities plenty of parking best 1 it is in bridgewater somerset
E. J.
Was really good service and very friendly staff
D. G.
Such a scenic and pleasurable crossing between Devon and Cornwall with very engaging staff!
I. H.
Good service. Well done for being available all year. £2 single fair leaves you open to travel on bus elsewhere or return for the same fare
M. A.
A simple, fast water taxi, twice every hour, or more in summer, taking a shortcut between Plymstock and the Barbican.
If it wasn't so practical, it would be worth the short trip for the scenery and just for fun. People do go from the Barbican to the Mountbatten pub on the other side, and back.
Check with the website for the summer/winter schedule, and the very few times that the service is off due to tides or (in winter) freak nasty weather.
Currently £1.50 each way (cash or pre-purchased vouchers only) rising soon to £2.00.

EDIT: SIGNAGE NOW CORRECT. THANKS!
Can you change the times on your signage at barbican which says you run until 2300 in summer at weekends please? Waited 20 minutes for the non existent 22.15 on a Saturday night only to be told quite sarcastically we'd missed the last boat. Usually a good service
S. E.
Easy to use. Covid aware. Short ferry ride to Plymouth £2 each way for adult as of June 2021.
B. B.
Quick and reliable, arriving every 30 minutes. With the price being £2 every trip it's a little pricier than the bus, but it's a fun change of pace. Their rules on dogs, children, and bikes are a nice touch.
T. B.
Just brilliant. So helpful too I had a toddler, pram and bags helped me on and off the boat. And even fixed the brake on the pram. It's cheap to go too and fro from the Hoe to Mount Batten . Would recommend to any one. Thank you
R. S.
Used several time whist in the area. Park for free at Mount Batten. At £2 a trip it was cheaper than Plymouth parking and you get a short boat ride.
J. W.
Fabulous cheap safe service to to the city and back..
S. T.
A really convenient way to get from mount batten across to the Barbican (weather permitting).
Rather than drive into Plymouth and queue to park, I drive to mount batten, park for free and then take the ferry over. There are 2 each way every hour.
If you don't have your sea legs, don't worry, the helpful crew will lend you a firm hand to help you get on and off the ferry.
The jetty the ferry goes from is currently being renovated in time for the summer, so the ferry is going from slightly further around the coast, towards the water sports centre.
N. R.
Good, but not cheap, sometimes it's cheaper to get taxi if your in a group , also have noticed when busy they only put small ferry on, this has happened last couple of bank Holidays weekends.
V. G.
Having just posted a rather scathing review of the Mountbatten Ferry, I wish to amend my review as I now understand the reasons that the ferry was not running. I have used the ferry on numerous occasions previously and think it is an excellent way to get from Plymstock to the Barbican and hugely less expensive than a taxi 😊
A. B.
Travels on time every day very convenient for getting into town. Crossing takes 4mins and roughly 10mins from barbican into city centre. A bit longer along the Hoe but far more scenic
T. N.
Regular service in almost any weather. Great way to avoid Plymouth's increasingly busy roads. £2 each way for adults.
G. W.
Good service but it would be nice if it was able to meet with the bus service and help too get the bus instead of the bus going as you get off the boat and then you have to wait 25 minutes for the next one, 3 minutes would do it for the passengers and the bus would have some passengers to.
R. H.
Its a great service to go to and from the Barbican and the Mount Batten pub. Cheaper than the bus. More fun. Staff are always friendly.
M. T.
Always leaves on time and a very quick way to get across to Mount Batten and back. Reasonably priced. Friendly skippers

Almost always on time, cheap, great customer service and only stop the service in really bad weather due to the size of the boat.

£1.50 seems a bit steep and there's no option for a return ticket!
