Reviews of Plymouth Gin Distillery
N. S.
Fab tour! The guides were so enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Value for money at £11, we tasted 3 gins & stayed for a complementary drink in the cocktail bar but you could have a miniature to take away with you if preferred. You also get 10% off in the shop if you’ve been in a tour. Visited on Saturday 19 June 2021 - best to book although they do take drop-ins if they have room.

We did the standard tour which was really good. Harriet, our guide, kept it light and fun whilst providing plenty of information, and it was good value given it included a tasting of each of their products followed by a drink in the very impressive cocktail bar. Highly recommended.
J. B.
Fun time touring the distillery! We thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it.
G. F.
Great to find out about how Plymouth gin started and to see how it is produced. A true original. Great guide and gin tasting experience followed by a relaxed afternoon in the lounge/cocktail bar. Certainly a visit not to be rushed!! Mr Kings and the Fruit cup real favourites!!!!

Had such a memorable experince here. My friend and I participated in the gin tour, and it was so interesting to learn about the history of the place and their distilling processes. The tour was the perfect length, not too short, and not so long you lost focus or couldn't keep track of the information. It was very nice to be able to smell the spices while learning about them and also tasting the different gins, which all were delicious. And the tour ended with a visit to the gift shop, and a lovely G&T at their bar. Would reccommend anyone visiting Plymouth to take this tour!
L. W.
The standard tour is very short and you don't get to see anything when visiting at the weekends. The tasting at the end is great, nice building with lots of history
k. h.
10 stars!!! You can book a tour, which is great and informative since you get to know all the botanicals they are using. You get to taste 3 different gins and a drink ( or a take- away mini bottle) at the end . Plus 10% discount, if you buy something at the shop. The fruit cup and the Sloe are to die for.
J. W.
Had a lovely tour, both guides very knowledgeable, had a great tasting of the different gins.
N. L.
Tour was fun with lots of history and good insight into gin making, botanicals etc. Fun tasting at the end too. Bar at the end is brilliant, as is the whole building and atmosphere. Well worth a visit!
E. G.

Brilliant. Pippa was a, suberb tour guide
J. H.
Went on the ‘connoisseur’ tour, I can highly recommend it! Very interesting and good fun, the building itself has some interesting history and the gin has more. I really enjoyed this tour and thought all the staff were excellent. This is definitely worth doing. The bar is very nice as well.
R. G.
Great tour, thoroughly enjoyed learning how its made and the history of Plymouth Gin.
Would love to do it again. Samples were great 😋
R. P.
Historic building with the finest cocktails in Plymouth and amazing service. All topped off with a beautiful fresh Christmas tree
J. A. (.
Great atmosphere, great staff, great cocktails
S. F.
Very helpful in the shop with my gin purchase 😁
J. B.
The building, staff and tour are incredible. Definitely recommend the tour, which is given by very friendly and enthusiastic staff. Some very interesting history and the tasting led to some very surprising results when trying the big 5 UK gins. Would even recommend to non-gin fans as both gins and mixers can lead to a very wide range of end results!
J. M.
Great one hour tour, lots of history, and nice gin and tonic at the end 👍

Amazing afternoon. Naomi was knowledgeable, entertaining and thoroughly charming. The gin was delicious and the history is fascinating.

Went on a distillery tour yesterday (26th October 2021) and had a great time. Our tour guide Oliver was very knowledgable and friendly and delivered the information well. He then passed us on to Sonny for our tasting experience which was very informative. I’m not a big gin drinker but with the guidance offered I was able to appreciate the different elements that go into gin. It was a lovely way to spend a hour or so and would definitely recommend a visit if you are in Plymouth.

We finally got to use the Christmas gift (Master Distillers Tour) to us by our daughter in 2019, and the wait was well worth it.
Our tour guide Naomi made the experience great fun with plenty of facts mixed in with personal tales, and her passion for Plymouth Gin was obvious.
Yet to taste the Gin that we made but am sure that it will be special when we do.
J. Y.
Lovely gift shop, not big choice of gifts, but what more do you need when they sell a great Gin.
C. Q.
Fantastic experience on the connoisseur tour with a great staff knowledge and of course a good tasting experience. Would highly recommend
H. G.
Did the basic tour that lasts 40 minutes, good value for money with the gin tasting and then a gin and tonic in the bar at the end but goes quick, would maybe go for a longer tour option next time.
S. P.
Tours are £11 each and they last about 45 minutes. You get to see the distiller and the storage tanks, taste 3 different Plymouth gins, touch and smell the ingredients of the gin, and then get a full size G&T at the bar (or a takeaway single serving bottle of gin). The tour was very interesting and I learned a lot about gin, such as lemon tastes better with gin than limes, and gin was originally mixed with water, not tonic. And the tour exits through the gift shop where you can buy bottles of Plymouth gin at supermarket prices.
I feel that £11 was a good value for this tour :-)
T. S.
Lovely food and lovely staff. A great start to our evening.
L. G.
Tours of distillery very informative with a great cocktail bar

Made me enjoy Gin, and I dislike Gin!
Great experience and quite cosy environment with jazz music.
S. A.
Wonderful selection of gins in the shop (of which we bought a litre 😁).... but exceptional customer service.... the lovely ladies in there called us a taxi to get back to the train station (as we couldn’t find one). If we had of had more time we would have definitely eaten there. Lovely place .... well worth a visit 👌🏻👌🏻
C. J.
Enjoyed our tour this week. An enthusiastic guide telling the interesting story followed by interactive tasting tutorials and a nicely presented gin drink of your choice in the atmospheric bar.
N. W.
We had a lovely time here. It has a lovely cosy feel, and the staff were exceptional, really going that extra mile to provide you great service. Will definitely be back next time I come down south.
R. E.
The oldest gin distillery in the world, really interesting to look around and learn about the history. Shop has some great gift idea for anyone who likes gin...
R. S.
The tour was amazing. Great to visit a place with that much history and still working to this day. Lovely bar above the shop.
K. P.
Absolutely a must do the history of the distillery is amazing as is the gin our tour guide Oliver was a mindful of information thank you for an amazing afternoon

Connoisseur tour was amazing, Naomi was super knowledgable and enthusiastic, and you can buy the Navy strength gin!

Really impressed had a good time with the gin tasting
R. H.
Great place to stop. Really interesting tours and the cafe is great. Perfect little shop for Christmas ideas.

Had a great tour with my mum today at the Plymouth Gin distillery, hosted brilliantly by Naomi. Laughed from the start to the end. Learnt so much about the heritage of Plymouth Gin and the distillery itself. Naomi was fun, lively and had a great sense of humour. Will be calling back to do the master distiller tour next time I’m visiting.
E. G.
I can't recommend the tour enough; we had a fantastic time. Our guide was very funny and informative and it was fantastic to learn about the different botanicals that go into making the various gins and then to have a go at making our own. This is a must-do for any gin-lovers!
R. M.
My wife, kids (14 &10) and I all enjoyed the Gin tour. Kids especially loved their mocktails served up in their fish glug jugs at the end of the tour in the lovely bar. Great day out for all.
K. D.
The Gin tour was brilliant! The staff member who gave the tour was enthusiastic full of energy and really could tell they loved doing it. Very interesting about how it's made and what goes into it. A bonus is the drink in the bar after very cosy great atmosphere.
m. a.
Bought a couple of bottles of him. Wanted to do the tour but was fully booked for three days ahead, should have booked.
S. F.
Very helpful in the shop with my gin purchase 😁

Great place! Nicely done tour and tasting, (we just did the basic), the genuine interest of the host in explaining the history was palpable and and pleasantly unrushed, we really enjoyed it. Definitely recommended.
D. S.
Superb experience taking the "Gin tour" and a must see is the historic Refectory above the Distillery where the Pilgrim Father's were said to have stayed. Harriet your tour guide is superb and has a charming manner.
There is a very well stocked gift shop within the building and all souvenirs are of high quality, of course Plymouth Gin is sold here. Probably the best Plymouth souvenir/gift shop around.

The tour is great and sitting in their cosy; clean and well decorated gin bar for the evening was lovely

The Best Gin ever !!!

Home of Plymouth Gin - a little taste of history!
The tour is worth going on to learn the story of this unique gin. It has only ever been produced in this one distillery and for many years was a staple of the Officer's Wardroom on ships of the Royal Navy.
The shop offers a range of quality souvenirs including the drink itself!
J. G.
Lots of gin (which is never a bad thing!!)😊 lovely staff in the shop too! Bit weird, but the Gent's are done out really cool ! 😉🤣🤣
G. W.
I enjoyed my gin master class very much indeed, the young lady who took the class was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic and such a bubbly person. I knew very little about gin before but learned a lot that day especially the fact that I love the Navy strength. I found all the staff so polite and friendly. Thank you all for a great afternoon, shall return soon to stock up on Navy strength .
A. D.
We had a wonderful time on our visit. Naomi gave up her lunch break to show us around as we only had an hour to play with and couldn’t make the later tours. It was such a wonderful, warm gesture and we wish everywhere had such brilliant customer service. Thanks Naomi!
D. A.
Very interesting tours with knowledge filled guides. The master's tour is brilliant although needs advanced booking but you make your own blend of gin. Drinks in cocktail lounge well priced.
J. H.
I'm more of a whisky enthusiast, but also have a bit of an interest in gin. I've been on lots of whisky distillery tours and so as we were in the area I thought it might be interesting to do the tour here, to see how it compares. There's a bit less to see than on a typical whisky distillery tour, and to be honest I found the staff a little frosty (particularly when someone on the tour tried to take a picture). I think they could definitely learn something about hospitality from the whisky industry, not to mention the fact that most whisky distilleries don't charge for their tours. Overall, maybe worth a visit if you happen to be in the area, but I suspect if you make a special trip just for this, unless you're a Plymouth Gin fanatic, you might be left a bit disappointed.
W. H.
We had a great time taking the tour of the distillery, very informative and the tasting at the end was very cool! Highly recommended!
J. G.
A fabulous visit to The Plymouth Gin Distillery today. Naomi did the tasting session with us very informative and she is such a character. Thak you.

Fabulous Gin cocktails, excellent service in a great setting. Nothing to fault and great to see it open and serving again.

Very interesting tour of the distillery hosted by people who you can tell are really interested in the product. The polish/french lady who did the tasting was especially knowledgable and fun.

We took the master distillers tour and can highly recommend it. Our guide was excellent, very informative and highly entertaining. The tour was worth every penny and we have already recommended it to several friends.

Absolutely loved it! The price is fair; Beccie and and the other maiden were vert friendly and helpful (not to mention good looking). I was so happy with the tour as it was very informative and entertaining. Would go again! :)
A. S.
Nice to be back after lockdown. It feels very safe and the cocktails are still the most amazing in town if you love gin!
R. D.
Had a really good time on the distillery tour, guide was great and gin also- only complaint is there could have been more gin, but then that's true of 99.9% of all gin based activities
K. E.
Brilliant tour really interesting worth a visit
C. j.
Small, short tour visit, but great samples of gin.
The first part is in the distillery, you are told to switch off cameras and phones. However there are no extractor fans in there and no distilling was taking place, so no fire risk!
As a scientist - I can assure you that a camera and / or a phone cannot create a a spark to ignite any form of alcohol or indeed petrol fumes at a petrol; station - it is just outdated old school, unresearched fables!
The gin is great - sadly no ingredient processing (imported) or bottling (that's in Essex) takes place, so the only thing that happens there now is the distilling of the mixed batch in a Victorian copper gas heated distillery kettle. The process is therefore not in the slightest bit carbon friendly and relies on intensive diesel transport.
J. M.
Brilliant tour very well looked after

Very interesting.. And gorgeous smells..it was fairly quiet being a weekday in January, but the tour guide took me and my partner on a tour anyway..she was great(sorry can't remember her name) all staff were friendly..part of the entrance price was a token for a free drink upstairs in their cocktail bar...it was delicious,so we had another one..then later that evening we popped in again to try out a few more flavors!!
