Reviews of Hanley Bus Station

Don't use buses very often, so nice to see good signage to show me which stand my bus went from. Also its not cold, so very comfortable. Plenty of seating.
T. L.
Helpful staff, a volunteer to help you, shop and lovely clean environment. Easy to find your destination and correct information. One of the better bus stations.
S. S. (. J.
This is a major bus station in Stoke on trent. Well maintained. Buses are organized to come in very orderly manner with keeping the proper timings. There is a ticket station nearby, where you could buy tickets. Also you can book the tickets online or purchase it from the bus itself.
T. A.
Really nice and easy to navigate. However, I think it needs to be kept clean. Most parts looked dirty especially the restroom 🤦
M. J.
Very clean found all staff friendly and helpful bus's all seemed to run on time
O. O.
Nice bus station but the problem is that the buses are late a lot. I believe that if a bus isn't going to come at a certain time on the screen everyday then that screen should be updated I can't be waiting for a bus that will never come at the time that is written down. Other than that great bus station best in potteries if it's not the only one.
R. F.
A modern, stylish and airy building, but not well utilised by the city council - popular local bus routes are often stuck right on the end of the bus station on the smallest stands whereas the more accessible stands are reserved for coaches or infrequent services out to places like Leek and Uttoxeter, which seems counterintuitive. Some dubious characters that hang around the bus station and its environs make it an unpleasant area to stick around in, which is a shame.
s. o.
Had to pick my car up from Tunstall after it's service, I found the bus station easy to understand where I had to be and the bus times are easy to see 👍
A. y.
It was great and the bus driver was really helpful excellent customer service defo will use and again and recommend too thank you
D. B.
I haven't used the Hanley bus station before, but found it much easier to navigate than the old bus station. I was able to easily find the stop for Blythe Bridge and the bus driver was very helpful providing details on what stop I needed to get of at.
L. B.
Always full of different people in the bus station clean as are the toilet and too
N. C.
Could be cleaner, alot off junkies hang around. Security guards more interested in females that pass by.
M. D.
It's always clean and security staff patrol regularly making sure that the public are safe
S. R.
This bus station is brilliant compared to my local bus station Longton.
G. P.
Well, certainly a lot better than the old bus station. Easy to read screens for info about the busses. Bit of a carnival atmosphere when I was at Hanley Bus Station. Quite good fun.
M. G.
It's the central bus station you must use it if you live in Stoke. Needs extra cleaning
N. K.
What a great place to see some of the wildlife of Hanley on monkey dust ,This magnificent building was payed for by stoke council maybe the money would be better spent sorting the homeless out around the town
A. B.
My son thinks it's great for bus spotting
H.
Indoor bus station which is nice. Plenty of services going variety of places. Signage leaves something to be desired as adverts and public information messaging replaces bus times every few seconds. While the place is known to attract 'undesirables' particularly during anti social hours it is generally well lit and well maintained and so not that unpleasant to use.
O. O.
Bus station was nice, clean, staff were friendly and processes were efficient.
a. j.
You can see the screen to look your route. It shows the route number and the position of the bus
A. S.
For a bus station, it's OK. Bus times are displayed on a screen. Toilets being refrefurbished, I think, but the 3 access toilets were available with a queueing system for social distancing. My bus left with a 10 minute delay. Otherwise alright.
S. F.
Clean, spacious, easy to navigate... Public toilets close at 10pm though
k. c.
Not very comfy and there are always people begging
L. D.
Travelling to Bentilee and I had no idea what bus to get, so I asked the very nice lady in the information office, she told me what bus to get and where to get it from. The bus was boarding as I got to the stop. Perfect timing. There's plenty of security guards and staff. There's a small shop that sells everything from magazines to coffee and chocolate. They even sell beer, probably for the station staff. At the moment masks have to be worn within the station and the toilet facilities are closed.
k. m.
Had to go here as was waiting for my neice I don't usually visit as I can't deal with buses at moment
s. a.
Central city bus station in Stoke-on-Trent where you can get bus to all other parts of the city and cross county
M. M.
Warm, spacious and plenty of information to catch your bus correctly
T.
Clean, functional and easy to access busses
B. M.
Sorry do not.like hanley at the best of time's
S. C.
Great place highly trained staff
W. H.
We lovingly teasingly call this the big oatcake as the roof looks like one splayed out on top! Nevertheless it has good displays of bus, central for access, even with National Express and even has toilets, shops and tables to sit at. Only snag is its not quite enough space for all buses, some have to pull up outside. Great otherwise.
J.
Easy to use. Has screens to let you know where to go. Seating. Toilets and a little shop which sells Costa
m. w.
It's better than the old one it.
A. E.
It was very busy at about 9am and 12pm.
w. b.
Standard place nothing special but nothing bad
R. W.
Very easy to use and find where you're going, it's right by the theatre and takes you to the centre of town. There are often youths hanging around outside on the benches wearing very little and smoking and I wouldn't advise using the toilets at all. There's a little shop so you can grab a quick bite or a drink
t. m.
You need more buses on the number 8 route and up until 8pm not everybody drive been to other parts of england and I think the whole look of transportation needs up grading totally and we are so behind the times its frightening
J. L.
It is what it is.Plenty of buses and cold.
E. S. M.
Well-organized bus station with clear information on screens. However you should be within 5-10 min. of bus departure time.
F. R. J.
I was in duty that day/Alfaomega security officer
M. S. -. T. B. B.
A bus station which is simply that - there is nothing special, in fact I think the designers were crazy when they made the whole structure out of stone and steel... it is bitterly cold in winter, and it looks cold as well!! The staff I have dealt with have all been lovely, but alas there are too few staff as seems to be the way of the world. There is a small news agency and convenience shop with a limited range of snacks and drinks.
V. K.
It's a big bus station but still get crowded. The shop inside has fair prices. The offers are good. Helpful staff members. Also has a pokestop (little bonus). Overall. Cleanliness: 3/5 Staff: 4/5. Service: 5/5.
S. S.
Bus station is good their is a problem in of pigeon in the bus station and also toilet is not open in early morning and when I was traveling I had not the access to the toilet because it was closed.
S.
Clean, well lit, felt safe and helpful staff
P. F.
It's better than the old bus station of course.
But buses are not normally on time, you tend not to ask the staff as they don't known themselves so just ask the people who already waiting there if it's come in yet.
Most buses you can catch from inside the station, but at 5 least five you have to wait outside in the cold for.
Even if your bus has pulled only a little bit away from where you board, they won't return if they see you either running for it or by the depot doors, which lock automatically when the bus isn't fully in, so the drivers normally just drive off and make you wait for the next one.
Not all the bus drivers are grumpy or unhelpful or rare occasions you get a good one.
L. K.
Departures on the board are listed as soonest first. It's maintained pretty nicely. Buses that I've got on have always left on time. Toilets are can be busy (ladies), so don't go in thinking you can go for a quick wee, you might miss the bus 😂 I think things are organised nicely and it's not a pain going in here like some bus stations. Not much here for lunch, in case you were wondering...
K. M.
Great covered space and well signed plenty of seating and a well stocked news agents. All in all a very well presented transport facility to make travelling easier and a more pleasant experience. An interesting piece of architecture also.
T. W.
Use the bus station most days for work. The station itself is very clean and there is seating available, there is a convenience store inside selling food newspapers sweets etc, public toilets are available. As for the buses don't know why there's a timetable for them cause they never run on time or they just don't turn up and that has happened more than once.
j. p.
It is a shame that when you're looking at the big main info screen, trying to find your next bus.... adverts pop up, then you have to stand there, waiting for what seems an eternity... for the bus times to reappear.
First bus co. You need to put up seperate screens for advertising about covid19 etc.
M. J.
Never built to house the number of buses using it, but so much better than the old station.
Little information is given as to late or missing services but that is down to First buses lack of customer care.
Good shop and toilets and 6 seats per stand to sit on.
J.
usually an efficient place to catch a bus.
P. W.
Fairly spacious, airy concourse with toilets and shop but located a bit out of the centre.
J. G.
As with most Bus stations you don't really want to be here for very long, but it is clean, has some security and first aiders most of the time, the screens are never as helpful as they were meant to. There is a shop to get normal. Newsagent bit abd bots but it's not the cheapest, it offers great protection from the weather, and is not an unpleasant place to wait for your Bus.
J. B.
The most chaotic ill-informed station I've ever used. The bus rarely arrives at its correct stand and then its a free for all who can get on first..... usually the people who arrive last. The information is not correct half the time and if you need information you have to find someone, probably in the outside office, at which point your bus has probably departed
z.
Ok it has a shop but it's dear for snacks coffee. Loos are free and it's away from the cold and it's dry
Can be trouble sometimes but not many when I have been there
I can compare to the bus old one it's better and not smelly
T. M.
A very large bus station serving the potteries and surrounding areas. However, it is not very clean, it has limited facilities and directional and bus service signing is not of a very high standard. I would never use it but the fact is they have a 'captive audience' and you have no other choice if you need to travel around the area by bus.
m. b.
Positive : Very close to the town centre. Bus hub with busses to pretty much all corners of Stoke-on-Trent. Negative : Finding the bus platforms can be confusing. Very little staff available for advise and the monitors for the time tables are very small. For bus passengers with visual impairment this might be challenging.
D. L.
It's cold first thing in the morning when waiting for a bus. And there is bird poo around by the seats that are close to windows and doors. But apart from that you can catch almost any bus you need to.
D. G.
Good and easy to read LCD screen bus timetables with friendly staff.
P. W.
It seems strange to enjoy a bus station, but I look forward to changing buses here. There's plenty of seats and a shop. I like the cheerful assistant that served me last time I passed through.
K. F.
Errrr bit of a mixed feeling here. It's allways kept clean . The shop sells most things . A cash point I've heard people say would be handy their and I agree .
On the other hand it's poorly located as shops one end of town bus stations the other . Really no good for the elderly or infirm . And the buses , well , mines 9 times out of 10 late . ( use every day) no good when yr off to work . That's if they don't take it off !!
D. Y.
The new bus station in Hanley is 90% better with cleaner toilets the old bus station was very cold & wet in the winter months ....but I must say I do miss the cheap cafes it used to have I would often nip in to kill time over a mug of hot coffee and chips to eat in or take away the staff was always friendly
The new cafe I find expensive with no charm about it and the staff don't smile lol
L. W.
Quite a lot of buses,to various areas, information office stocked well with timetables, rest rooms, and a good newsagents/ grocery.2/3 minutes walk from Hanley town centre undercover with lots of seats clean and tidy as are the restrooms
C. P.
The manager of Hanley bus station/ stoke on trent City council needs to sort the pigeon problem within the bus station, and also the bus timetable needs to be changed aswell.
A.
Busses either arrive late or too early then leave spontaneously, leaving passengers to stand waiting by the doors until the driver decides whether he is reversing or pulling in with minutes spare. Forever security are dealing with grief from kids, drugged up folk and the homeless. It's a bit all over the place and difficult to make your way through a crowd as the building is very narrow.
H. F.
Very clean and decent place. Wish the toilets were free of cost.
P. A.
Nice and clean and good timeline for the bus
A. J.
First time here -- could find bus I needed fairly easily -- so much better than most bus stations.
R. E.
Arrived early ilon a Sunday morning to get a coach to Wembley. Disabled toilet is accessed with radar key which I didn't have but there was one larger cubicle in the main ladies which I was avle to access in my small manual wheelchair.
M. J. (.
Cleaners doing a great job but amenities are lacking. Toilets are closed and the shop always closes earlier than advertised.
s. c.
It's s safe place for you because there is security you can by a coffee and a snack and sit at a table while you wait there is a newsagent .it is all pretty new and clean good restroom with Dyson hand dryers
which are brill
J. M.
A modern looking addition to Hanley. Much better than the old dark and dingy station. There is always a member of staff around to ask for help in the kiosk ticket room. Nice cafe, and toilet facilities.
R. (.
It's a bus station to take buses.
C. M.
The building compared to Stoke's old bus station is a massive improvement....Only problem I've noticed is that the security can be unprofessional and in some case provoke problems on site. I would recommend a review on the contractors.
v. m.
Under cover city centre bus station recently refurbished, bus travel to wide variety of destinations including further afield with national express coach travel.
T. P.
Free toilets, disabled access, range of busses. Slightly rude, or rather, uncompassionate First Bus Inspector. But great arriva bus driver to Drayton, called himself Batman, fantastic service, careful driving!
J. C.
It's o.k if you want to get a bus ,but if you are looking for a history book about Napoleons Peninsula War of the the early 19th century then this is not the place for you.
m.
Always cold, noisy people. And freezing cold seats. Bus drivers live in a land of depression. Don't know how to be right with you, but are very good at not telling you bus time changes. Or that even stops are out of commission for good. Not enough driver customer information as its always being updated, and yet I find out by some old lady who had to walk down to another stop as, because 32 in highstreet is no longer being used. Learn some gaddam manners and respect us as we pay ya goddam wages.
V. L.
Sick of having to walk through a cloud of smoke every day as I enter the station. Also fed up of the people using the station as a place to hang out. Lots of swearing, fighting, just appalling really. A police presence is needed to move people on.
G. G.
Could leave a space open for people that has to use buses early. Until 6am not opened, but buses running almost during all night time
R. E.
Well laid out and easy to find the next leg of the journey. Floor very slippery when wet.
J. M.
Really not the best place to be stuck for an hour...but is any bus station? At least it's dry and there are toilets if you need them. Also a shop if you want a drink and a snack.
K. H.
The buses aren't always on time which makes it hard to figure out when to catch the bus. Sundays are especially stressful. Other than that it great.
K. W.
Host's toilets, seating, shelter, shop & cafe. All buses arrive at alphabetical stands. You can find your bus number on a large mounted schedule screen along with stand letter & time.
T. N.
Poorly planned station, accessed by small side road. I am convinced the plans weren't thought through as the vehicular entrance should have been from the main road with the whole project rotated 180 degrees. National express coach's can be caught at the outside stops when the station is closed. This unfortunately means passengers are in the elements with no access to toilets or refreshments once the passenger area is closed.
D. L. W.
Improvement on the old bus station but no thought given to the layout when it comes to finding the bus you need as it's alphabetical system is confusing when the buses use numerical system
S. B.
Better maintained than the previous bus station, but think there should be a bit more security/policing operating from here. A lack of this is what run the old one into the ground.
P. B.
Nice bus station. Toilet facilities and shop. Digital bus timetable screens. Situated near main shopping facilities.
A. S.
Marvellous advisor staff.
L. K.
Clean; spacious; helpful staff; clear, visible timetables with a button to read it aloud for accessibility; wheelchair accessible; disabled toilet access.
J. D.
Very good service
J. W.
Largest transport hub in stoke on Trent ,with buses to lots of potteries destinations also serves Staffordshire moorlands, Stafford ,market Drayton ,nantwhich and more as well as national journeys with national express has a information shop lots of detailed timetable and route information ,plenty of seating and a small convienence store
J. A.
The bus station looks a mess. Visiting other cities opens your eyes. It's not a patch on Digbeth station at Birmingham. The service for Dividy road no longer exists! Buses are frequent outside the bus station, but it is really a bad idea, not good when it's raining!
E. B.
It is a nice, cozy, well designed place to take a bus to all area from Stoke on Trent, but not very clean unfortunately.
A. A.
A place for many bus routes. A major part of routes are heading to places within the Potteries such as Crewe, Alsager, Keele.
Bus routes to places in the UK including Liverpool, Manchester and Glasgow also available once a day or twice.
Toilet is available but its hygiene needs improvement.
B.
Lovely too look at but unfortunately the homeless problem has really impacted this place it’s not their fault but we need to do something like build a homeless shelter but stoke council won’t, it’s such a shame 😪
J. S.
Good bus station for shorter journeys but very cold in winter and no announcements for late arrival of buses for long distant travel in the event of which I had to opt out of bus journey and took bus to Stoke train station instead!
J. B.
Pleasant,friendly people,clean and very tidy.Highly recommended.
X.
Great bus station. Free toilets. Newsagent on site offering tea and coffee and hot food and even a post office counter.
k. b.
I must admit, I did prefer the old bus station. With the new bus station, it as a tendency to change points of broading which sometimes I feel confused people. But 8/10.👌👌👌
S. W.
No food or places to get a bite, basic clean station with an indoor bit so you don't get cold or rained on. Every time I go there (I work in hanley but come from the south) I always get sexually harrassed, chatted on, by the male staff. I am 20 years old, they're about 50. Dont care if its "friendly banter" I don't need a 50 yo asking me i'f I'm cold and would I like him to warm me up' when I'm just trying to wait for my coach. Sort it out.
m. e.
Never had a problem purchasing a ticket from there in the past. You can get bus time tables from here also....
A. W.
Very busy at school kickout time would have given 5 stars but buses are always late arriving waited for a hour to travel home 2 buses didnt arrive
I. M.
Toilets closed.... And there are no other public toilets outside for peiple waiting for national expresss.... They can die in cold
G. M.
Much better than the old bus station. Cleaner , more organized and with up to date info boards plus a shop with refreshments .
G. U. T. G.
Hanley bus station has been redesigned and seems a lot more vibrant and modern compared to the previous station definitely a step forward in the right direction.
J. H.
It was ok not that busy but was dissapointed that the lost property dept was cloed .
D. 9.
It's very cold in the winter. The station is too small and you can never find a Inspector when buses fail to turn up.
A. R.
Bus station is absolutely clean and the buses are on time
A. S. E.
It's a fairly new bus station with better shops than the old one. Good place but needs more shops not just for food.
W. C.
It keeps you dry in wet weather, but has loads of teenagers hanging around causing problems. Main entrance is always blocked by drivers and passengers smoking.
National Express waiting area is cold and damp. Should be back indoors.
T. B.
Thought the layout of this bus station excellent, staff very friendly and helpful
Relatively clean and did not see people dozing down
S. w.
Easy to find, plenty of coaches going to lots of different places and staff were incredibly helpful. Driver was also lovely.
S. E.
Clean
Security on site
Easy to find your bus
Shop with Costa machine
Free toilets
Plenty of seating
R. K.
Better than the old one, but still needs more security measures. It's a silly design in that, all bus both come and go from the same point.
s. s.
Ok. Good place.
R. D.
Decent. Easy to use. Easy access to toilets. Only issues... theyre a lot of drunks who hang out here
M. A.
Wonderful design, clean and very friendly stuff. One thing don’t like it which is the naughty teenager around it makes you uncomfortable at all.
I. M.
Stopped during my coach visit. Looks nice and clean. Has the regular shops/outlets you'd expect
N.
Just a little stop there on bus . But its looks good if you see sitting outside . Hope next time i stopp for more time to take a look from inside .
J. B.
A significant improvement over the old bus station, with easy timings, nice facilities and lots of assistance for people with sight and/or hearing difficulties.
D. M.
Very cold even on the bus no heating it said on internet every 1/2 hour was wvwry 1 hour
M. S.
Nice bus stop it's clean and has sitting facility.
i. i.
It's a very nice bus station. There is a cafe. Clean toilet with a lot of stalls- free.

S. H.
public toilets and plenty of information of the bus times. inclosed from the weather too so no need worry about a coat
7. B.
Much better since people from bentilee don't have to wait outside in all weather's waiting for bus services tbh!!
I. B.
Nice modern building, plenty of spaces inside, shopping facility, nice clean toilets, very big info screens, plenty of seats for waiting passengers.
T. P. H.
Here often, normally early hours of the morning. No inside area whilst waiting for the coach, but lovely area.
D. J. G.
It's clean tidy secure good bus station as a bus driver myself could be inproved

A lot better than it used to be, haven't bin there for over twenty years though. More up to date and stylish.
R. M.
A clean and tidy place to wait for your bus .Easy to locate and catch your bus whatever you are going also friendly staff .
j. r.
Not clearly organised via multiple bus companies... first bus biast.
R. W.
I was stood there for 5 hours waiting for a coach that didn't turn up the people at the shop looked after me and kept me warm big thanks too them
A. J.
Information desk is helpful so are the drivers. The buses are sometimes abit hit and miss just like any other bus company
C. P.
Don't like it. To busy and the bus I need to catch is outside so get soaked when it rains. Should of kept the old bus station
P. J.
Very clean and comfy seats whilst waiting for buses
S. S.
Its ok I just catch the bus when one is in. So don't really see much of it.
N. N.
Ideal for catching buses. Close to city centre too.
B. C.
Very rispectable a lot better than the old one time will tell if we have a bad/cold winter then you will need some form of heating
K. M.
Its not the station but the lack of inferstructure of the bus services.
P. B.
Slightly disorganised bus station the notice boards can be written more clearly . It does have an information room with plenty of staff available to help with your inquiries.
r. k.
Fairly new, well organized, under cover. Toilets. Close to town centre. Seating available.
c. t.
Nice place to wait for your bus but however it could do with being warmer
T. J.
Great
K. L.
Yes it's alright clean easy to find your bus.
K. T.
Good seating shop has good variety of snacks to keep you going while you wait :-)
G. T.
Big, crowded place. Sometimes difficult to find the right bus. Some dubious faces roaming around.
f. s.
It more like anti social distancing, as if you blind how would you measure use my white stick?
K.
We use National Express Coach frequently.Only taxi rank pick up area, where do my family park to collect me?
J. B.
All was fine until my bus turned up and immediately drove off without any passengers or explaination👹
D. D.
Very good it says what it does on the tin a good place to catch regular clean buses
M. H.
A good service from buses and staff, yeah sometimes buses are late but usually because of roadworks or car crashes which are out of there control and cars are late as well.
D. J.
Modern building, toilet and refreshment facilities available, no cash machine.
P. P.
The one good thing I can say about it is that it's better than the old bus station.
P. H.
Gradually starting to fill up again following the pandemic.
K. M.
Good and warm inside easy to find bus you need
S. W.

The heart of bus operations, It as on site WCs and and shop. It has links to all the other 5 towns in the potterys.
J. P.
Good signs for buses but a bit dirty and toilets not clean

It is clean, buses generally run on time and staff are pleasant and efficient.

Safe and secure. Clean, great location
G. j. R.

Does the Job. Its a Bus Station
K. N.
Nice and clean and steady flow of buses
R. E.
Not really much to say about a bus station apart from it had it owns shop if you needed a quick snack or drink.
I. P.
No mens toilets in the main bus station ,due to vandals . It as been like that for months.
l. b.
The buses are sometimes late or leave early and at night it can be a little creepy and strange people walking about
M. H.
Better than the last one, not enough buses at night though
N. L.
It's clean and warm. It's easy to find your route and buses.
A. C.
I had not been there in years and was terribly overwhelmed by how terrific the station had become.
k. w.
Hadcto wait rather a long time for the bus
L. T.
Lots of spaces, easy to park. Lift to M&S, all good.

Quite big, sheltered, got a shop inside, easy to work out what bus
T. G.
there’s a convenience store to grab a few snacks and lovely view of stoke
J. D.
Hate the place , more should be done about the layabouts , not a very good advert for the city
s. c.
Nice ladys for hire. Day or night rate are cheap aswell

It's a good way to get around the city, if you don't mind waiting.
Y. L.
Nice and modern but space tight for all the buses.
C. P.
Great structure but your blasted with cold air every time the door opens
L. P.
Caught a bus from here, much better than the old bus station!!

G. H.
Lot better than old station , more organized 8-)
S. C.
Good information on bus departures, well located, protected from the elements
J. A.
The bus station looks a mess. Visiting other cities opens your eyes. It's not a patch on Digbeth station at Birmingham. The service for Dividy road no longer exists! Buses are frequent outside the bus station, but it is really a bad idea, not good when it's raining!
A. E.
It's s very nice places it's where u can get the couch or bus to it were u want to go
m.
Always cold, noisy people. And freezing cold seats. Bus drivers live in a land of depression. Don't know how to be right with you, but are very good at not telling you bus time changes. Or that even stops are out of commission for good. Not …
m. a.
A modern new bustation
C. C.

Shocking for a new building.
