G. H.If you have kids, the Telford Steam Railway is definitely worth a visit. They've definitely made the most out of the relatively short track they have and there is a tunnel, which younger children always love. There's also a miniature (ride on) railway at one stop and a very good model railway at the other. An added bonus is that the cafe offers good food at very reasonable prices.
R. B.Had a great day on my Diesel Experience driving up and down the line in my "little" 52 tonne Class 08 locomotive. None of the volunteer staff could have been more friendly, knowledgeable or enthusiastic and really added to the day. Everything from the the breakfast bap through the model railway to the driving the train itself along the very picturesque line was first rate. An excellent experience that both my partner and I will remember for a very long time.

Great for kids , not too long to be boring for them and has a miniature railway to ride on at Spring Village station.
At Horsehay there's a cafe and large model railway to view.
The trains depart one station and travel about a mile then return almost to the original point but then branches off to the other station.
The line layout is an inverted "Y" shape.
K. G. (.What a great experience... The Polar Express train ride was great. It was like an interactive theatre performance. The kids loved it! The staff/actors were amazing, the story really came to life. The hot chocolate and cookies were rubbish but who cares, bring your own! Well worth the money

The actors and actresses were absolutely brilliant and made it feel so real. There was a glow on all the kids faces.
The station and steam train were amazing as well as the cafe and on board refreshments.
Highly recommend this to anyone with kids. One tip is to make sure you read the info as most kids wear night suits, recommend these are warm as it can get quite cold waiting for the train.
C. R.OMG! This event is fab. Is expensive but we thoroughly enjoyed it. Was magical, exciting and fun. I have to say the Conductor we had on the Comet carriage was amazing!! He really got into character and looked the part. He was lovely and made the experience even better. Meeting Santa on the train was amazing and it was a really good Santa. Everyone (even the adults) got the magical bells as well so that was an added unexpected bonus.

S. H.Visited once for The Polar Express in December. It was a magical evening, with great music, food stalls and model railway. The train journey itself was great, recreating all the memorable parts of the film. Kids loved it.
Z. L.We visited here last weekend, and couldn't believe its a train we hadn't been on with our son before. It was a lovely train ride with additional bits to see such as the steam tram, model railway and cafe if you feel. There is also the smaller gauge to ride on. Both of my children had lots of fun here, and it was so very reasonably priced. The staff there were friendly and happy to talk about the line and future plans too.
We will certainly be returning again!

K. T.Interesting place for steam railway enthusiasts. Many old engines are being restored and there are carriages available to hire for corporate team building exercises.
In winter the Polar Express is a popular destination so tickets for that event must be bought in advance.
They are currently planning to move the line and extend it so looking for volunteers to help.

Nice little place, I like it as not pretentious and rough round edges, my kids love the big indoor model railway, the big train ride isn't too long So kids don't get bored and staff talk to you on the train. Cafe with limited menu. Staff work hard and are friendly and informative. There are Small trains to ride on as well for a quid, picnic area and toilets, small gift shop, check timetables as some days are diesel trains running too

I went along with my daughter, son-in-law & 8yr old granddaughter as you have to book for 4 people, we were in the premium carriage which I thought was very expensive, but for that you get your golden ticket which the conductor punches your initial on, a hot chocolate, large cookie & a lovely polar express bag which contained 4 beautiful polar express mugs (exceptional quality) everyone receives a lovely bell from santa & the entertainment on board was fun, just seeing the delight & excitement on the children's faces made the cost worth every penny xx

r. c.Last week ( Friday 3rd December) we attended the Polar Train Ride and we are glad we did. Although the Park and ride was a bit of a hassle we arrived 35 minutes before our trip on the train and was politely greeted by staff. The tea room is quaint and the kids entertainer was fun too with silly cheesy jokes and tricks. Not much food choice, so eat before you travel.
Once called to the platform, the magic starts. Sadly not much decoration and the snow machine was not very effective. There was a bit of a wait, but when the train arrived, WOW what an atmosphere. There was a little performance with the conductor and a Boy, the music kicked in and we were on the Polar Express. Hot Chocolate, Cookies and the main man. We have read reviews and everyones idea of Santa is different, yes Santa did have a short beard, but very friendly and plenty of photo oppotunities. The Train runs slow and although you don't travel far, its about great family time and it's what you make it. There was a shop area after the experience, usual inflated prices but no pressure to buy. Thank you everyone. Special mention to the gentleman who help my mother with the wheelchair

S.Went for the polar express and what a joy it was. From start to finish it gave a brilliant Christmas feel, from snow on the station station to being welcomed on the train. all the actors on the train inc the ladies and conducter and the brilliant children singers/boy actor were absolutely brilliant and made the children's evening, even inc the villan which was scary but made the Scene even better. Top marks to all of the cast inc santa and elf. Brill night. Thank you. Would definitely recommend to anyone. Thanks for cookie, hot chocolate and Christmas bell. Loved it

A.A small but very satisfactory work-in-progress preservation railway.
Standard-guauge stock on use on day of visit Riding stock in good condition. Still a limited line but progress to date bodes well for ultimate achievement of goal of Ironbridge powe-station site, served by comfortable BR coaching stock.
Staff/volunteers met helpful and informative.
Lacking is back-up paper literature, leaflets, map etc., and especially a stock book, along with history (and plans for) the line. website is not enough. Without documents in hand it could be easy for a first-time visitor to miss that there are indeed three campuses, albeit close together.
An especial gem is the two-foot-gauge, wood-fired steam tramway loco (vertical boiler), plus its trailer, with its rough ride round a tight-radius circular track... like being on a small model-railway layout!
This, with the story of its two cousins in Argentina certainly merits a booklet in its own right (I should be pleased to volunteer to write it).
The whole railway is a well-worth-visiting gem.
H. L.Enjoyed our polar express experience.snow machine on platform failed so was a little disappointing. ALSO One downfall no baby changing facilities so bare that in mind, we had a 9 month old not good enough.
S. J.Short heritage railway only about a mile of track but very enjoyable, Horsehay and Dawley a quaint little station set in a tree lined cutting. The staff are really helpful and friendly and a cafe is open on operating days with drinks and hot food. Diesel running day was £10 for a return journey all 25 for unlimited trips.

A hokden ticket, magician, model trains, cafe and toilets before you start.
On the platform there's a snowman, hobo with trackside fire, music, the boy in his bedroom, the train arrival and the conductor.
On the train there are dancing chefs, cookies, cocoa, gifts, clapping, drumming on the tables, the boy, a singing ghostly girl, carol singing, the conductor stamping your ticket, the hobo, the arrival at the north Pole, the passing sleigh, father Christmas, and bells.
Back at the station there are photo opportunities and a gift shop.
C. P.If you like your steam piping hot and curling majestically out of an old puffer, this is the place for you. The toilet facilities are out of this world and worth the entrance price alone. Perhaps they might plug the round holes between cubicles but that's only a minor issue. I recommend the double egg and chips from the cafe which is a snip at £14. Sadly they were out of eggs but the chips were good value and Norman serenaded me as I ate and inhaled the steam. Will visit again. x

C. C.Absolutely wonderful place run by volunteers so only open on Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays. Except for the Polar Express at Christmas, amazing experience or a real engine that the kids will adore! The event sells out very early each year (around Easter) so sign up early for next year!

I. S.Brilliant short journey consisting of 3 stops. You get to enjoy whatnot was like to be a passenger in a steam train when they were in full force. The journey is expected to last even longer when the tracks are connected all the way up to iron bridge in the next 5-7 years time. Good value for money, and friendly volunteers. Highly recommended for couples with young children.

Our 8year old loved it when the conductor let her wear his hat and said" we have a new conductor in town". Free gifts for all the kids and a lovely hot Chocolate and melt in your mouth cookie provided on the train.

C. A.We went to the Santas express. It was lovely. A nice atmosphere while waiting, staff were nice on the carriage. We were promptly served hot chocolate and cookies, both of which were delicious. We found the book reading part a bit dull, but it was ok. We enjoyed the singing and atmosphere. Santa was brilliant, really authentic. The santa that waves from the platform was a bit disheveled looking. It looks like his costume needs a good clean!! But that's not something the younger children would notice. I was also disappointed that there wasnt a huge christmas tree at the "North Pole" I was also surprised as I didnt realise it's only a short strip of track so we shuffled up and down the same bit numerous times which was amusing. Again, only the older children noticed this.
All in all I think it's worth the money, but could be improved slightly with a few tweaks and investment in the standard of carriage and decorations at the "north pole"
A. R.A trip on the Polar Express train ride is the perfect way for little ones to meet Santa. A short journey on a steam train, a hot chocolate, a cookie, a few Christmas song sing alongs and the audio book. Then you get to meet Santa in your seat and, if your child has been good, they'll be presented with a bell (just like in the film). There's the obligatory gift shop at the end but also plenty of crafting activities too.
Free park and ride available. Book early as it goes fast.
K. B.Sooo exciting for the polar express. The experience lasted approximately 1 ½ hours and when you get off there is very reasonably priced food, free crafts for the children and a small Christmas shop ( bit expensive at £10 for a keyring). Very enjoyable.
M. F.Went to the polar express at Telford Steam railway. Got to say it is absolutely worth the money. Easy to get to, lasts around 2.5 - 3 hours. Food stalls are excellent also. Everything runs smoothly with virtually no queuing. I would recommend anyone to book the polar express but do it early as tickets sell out 11-10 months before the event.
B. C.Took a trip to the North Pole with 7 other family members ranging from 3 years old to 57 years old. North Pole was wet and cold but the hot chocolate warmed us up. Give it a try......but listen out for the sleigh bell or Santa will know if you still believe???

A trip on a steam train a cafe with beautiful cakes, a number of different museums illustrating the history of both the area and the railway itself as well as ride on miniature trains and a tram. There's also a model railway exhibition and there's free parking. Well worth a visit.
D. B.Ideal for family's but if you have children over 7 years old I can guarantee "I'm bored" want to play on Fortnight. Other than that cheap afternoon out only Adults pay £7 per person as kids go free. There's a cafe but would recommended it's better to bring a picnic in ideal weather.

Our children loved the steam train, steam tram and mini -train, wanting to ride multiple times repeatedly.
The small gift shop also sells specialist train toys and memorabilia at a reasonable price so could be a useful stop if you need that specialist toy for any upcoming birthday.
l.the whole day was nice, the staff were lovely and talkative, no hiding when people arrived. The queue for Santa's grotto was a little on the long side but no longer than Telford shopping centre at this time of the season. Value for money excellent and well worth the wait

Loads of history, friendly, helpful staff and well worth a visit. Just wish we weren't in a rush to set a record & could have stayed to look at the model railway, other locos & rolling stock & the workshops.

P. S.The old Loco shed, miniature train rides and steam railway workshop in Horsehay Telford has a lot to offer. However be aware the facilities are run by volunteers who are justifiably proud of their endeavours in maintaining and preserving these old rail facilities, engines and carriages. Its an interesting site ones familyshould be able to enjoy a ride on the miniature rail line.
