Outstanding Views!
What a wonderful, homely retreat, perched on the hillside overlooking Mawgan Porth beach and adjacent to the coastal path. The property is spotless, modern and very well equipped with all you need for a family holiday.
Just the ticket if you are looking to get away from it all. With perfect weather, we made good use of the kitchen/BBQ and enjoyed our evenings in the garden / terrace area, watching the tide come in and the sun go down (much needed after walking along the coast line or popping down to the beach which is quite steep in places). Beds are very comfy with fresh linen and towels and the decor throughout befits this quirky seaside property.
We were sad to learn, however, that the house which was designed and built by a local man for his family in the 1950s is to be demolished soon to make way for an ultra modern building. There is quite a bit of property development going on around the area and some pretty outstanding properties emerging and we did have to put up with a little bit of drilling and noise from builders at 2 or 3 nearby properties during the day but it didn't disturb us too much. This will no doubt we all complete in a few weeks.
A real shame, because some people do still want to see the "traditional Cornwall" and stay in cottages like this.
Take a good pair of walking shoes. Mawgan Porth beach front has a pub, some nice eateries where we sampled the fresh mussels and fish, small mini-market with local produce. However, be warned, most of the shops are clearly making up for lost business over the last couple of years and everywhere is a bit on the pricey side. We stayed at St Ives the week before and this was the case there so if you're holidaying in Cornwall this summer, do bear in mind you'll need deep pockets if eating out! However, there are the usual supermarkets if you're happy to hop back in the car and fill up for the week within 20 minutes drive.
The garden gate leading to the coastal path was the best bit for us - we loved the 4 mile walk to Bedruthan Steps which is a must and wasn't too strenuous (although beware there are some steep parts). The views are amazing and the surrounding July heather and wild flowers are simply stunning - there is a couple of cafes awaiting you on the cliff top when you get there so you can grab a refreshment before you make your return journey.
PS: dog owners - this is a great place for you and your pooch as the beach is open all year round to them and restaurants even stock "dog dinners"!

Dear Sirs
We wanted to provide some feedback on our recent stay (10-17 Sept 2022) at Talland View with Cornish Gems.
On initial review on the property on arrival we wondered when the property had been used last due to the level of dust on surfaces and cobwebs present in the lounge. The cleanliness is not up to the standards we are used to, please see attached images showing dust on surfaces, blinds and visible hairs etc on the floors and 'clean' bedding once the green fleece had been removed.
We were also very disappointed to experience noise and disturbance from the building work going on next door, especially as we had taken the time to call prior to booking to enquire about the note on the property about building work. We were assured that there had been no negative feedback about the building or noise and that the vehicles would only be using the the road for access. We question again when was the property last used as on several mornings we were woken shortly after 7am to lorries arriving before the site was open and parking outside the flats, engine's running, music playing. delivering building equipment and scaffolding. We also experienced drilling and general building noises, again after being told we would not hear any drilling noise. We ended up sleeping with the windows closed to minimise the disturbance but with the return of warm weather during our stay this was not ideal. Please see attached images. Given this level of disturbance to what we had expected to be a relaxing holiday, we would have expected the property to have been heavily discounted. Have Cornish Gems themselves visited the property in recent months?
The Guidebook on the property stated specific instructions of when and where the rubbish needed to be left, what wasn't included was the code to access the area for the rubbish bins. Instead the instructions said that we would receive a message with the code, this did not come and instead we had to contact the emergency number requesting it. A message was left saying they were trying to find the code.... Surely this should be information easily available and we certainly shouldn't have to go out of our way to chase for this. I ended up having to taken the rubbish out in the rain and dark due to when I finally received the code.
We do not generally like to complain but given we have received an email asking for feedback we felt we should share our experience. Sadly our first experience of Cornish Gems has not been all positive which is a shame and it will unfortunately make us consider whether to use the service again.
Best wishes.
Mr D. Goodwin

What a beautiful cottage. A short walk to the beautiful coast path and Bedruthan Steps, the sunset from the garden and the facilities inside were just what we needed. A great cottage and would highly recommend.

While the house was lovely (clean, comfortable and well kitted out); the Cornish Gems website was misleading about the parking that came with the house. I chose the house we stayed in over a cottage with a sea view because the website said it came with a parking spot - well, it did - but it was only big enough for a very small car! The house info we received in the week before our holiday did mention that the parking space was small, but by then it was too late; we were fully paid up and committed! It was a shame as the rest of the holiday was lovely, and the house a comfortable and cosy.

We enjoyed our stay immensely - beautiful apartment which we would thoroughly recommend. One word of warning for the elderly, many steps to reach your apartment. Apart from that no hooks in the bathroom. Well done Cornish Gems, good to do busy with you - always very helpful

The house was lovely, with plenty of space and all finished well. Although the descriptions said that the garden was set over three levels with 21 steps, it should have said how steep and high the steps were. They were a dangerous for young children or pets. Also we were contacted by customer services from Cornish Gems on the day after check in to ask how the house was. We let them know that the downstairs wc light was not working, and with no window it meant we could no use it without the door open. Also there was no soap in one of the bathrooms and a bedroom tv was not working because of the aerial cable. I was told that it would be passed over to maintenance. I heard nothing for the remainder of the week. Also the location. St Ives was lovely but the house location, right by the bus and train station felt like everyone going through St Ives were right there. The road was also noisy with people driving like idiots past the front door. Apart from that, the pool was great, loads of happy days on the beaches and visiting the amazing places to eat and drink.

We have stayed in many Cornish Gems properties over several years and all have been of a high standard, clean and most of all have a charm of their own. Cornish Gems, as a company have always been kind, friendly and clearly passionate about their service as well as their properties. Truly exceptional in an industry not always known for its service. Well done and thank you Cornish Gems, you are the architects of many years of happy family memories.

We have just spent a wonderful week at this property. It is a beautiful house, very well appointed but also cosy and welcoming. It is set in a beautiful wooded landscape and you wake up to the sound of birdsong. It is one of the best properties we have rented and I would highly recommend it. However, we were staying with my 89 year-old mother, who is not as mobile as she would like. The vehicular access is steep, but then you approach the property up steep steps, which were fine for us but a real problem for her. Just bear this in mind if taking elderly relatives with you. We ourselves would definitely stay here again as the location is excellent, very central for the whole of Cornwall, and a great place to return to after a day wandering the beautiful Cornish lanscape. Thank you for a wonderful holiday.

This is the most amazing holiday house! Well equipped and very comfortable, but above all else it has the most marvellous setting, with fabulous views over the Carrick Roads to Falmouth, St Anthony's Head providing an ever changing vista with a true "wow" factor.
The garden is truly dog proof and leads down to the water's edge. All reception rooms have sea views, as well as most bedrooms. There are kayaks and paddle boards available with very wise advice on their use.
Altogether a great success for a family get together after these last few difficult years.

Amazing - I took my partner to stay in a Cornish Gems property in St Ives last November and I must say I was delighted with the overall stay and experience - we had a fantastic wkend. The property was 5* and in a fab location overlooking the harbour, and was also very clean, bright and easy to find (and looked exactly like the online photos - which were spot on). The Gems expert team looked after us by providing clear useful information prior to arrival, and following up with us to make sure we had everything we needed on day 1. I found Cornish Gems to be a really lovely and very professional company to use for our holiday, and one I have already highly recommended to friends, colleagues and family. We'll definitely be booking our Cornwall and/or Devon holiday with them again. Thanks!

My partner and I and two of our friends and their baby stayed at the Waterside property for a week. From the moment we picked up the phone to Cornish Gems they were nothing but courteous and helpful. Helping us chose the right property for our needs, ensuring that we had a highchair ect for the baby. The property itself was gorgeous and was obviously kept to a very high standard. We had essentials waiting for us, the main thing for me was tea! Would definitely use this company again for our holiday and have recommended it to our friends

I booked with Cornish Gems and stayed at Headlands last summer, it was a beautiful house with amazing views. The house was sparkling clean and included everything (and more) we needed for our family holiday. I definitely recommend Cornish Gems and will be booking with them again for our summer holiday this year!

I have been with Cornish Gems for over three years, prier to them I was with another agent. My reason for swiching to Cornish Gems was their reputation of commitment and professionalism to both myself and our clients who book though them which my previous agent was lacking. I have been extremely impressed by their commitment, on going work and I hope to stay with them for many years to come. I have recommended Cornish Gems to several of my freinds who have all now switched their holiday homes to them and they are all over the moon with all that Cornish Gems have to offer.

I very rarely review anything but I needed to say thank you to the team at Cornish Germs and to the Cornish people for the wonderful welcome and fabulous time we had at Meva Seas this week. The house, the location and service we received was excellent. Despite being anxious- due to reports in the national media- we actually found the reality to be very different. Everywhere we visited was happy to see us and very well organised to keep everyone as safe as possible. The house was immaculate and cleaned to a spotless finish. Everything you could have wanted was there.
Thank you for allowing us all to have the holiday we so needed.

Really lovely house, well-situated for beaches and Padstow. Unfortunately, you can't walk anywhere from the house because Little Petherick doesn't have pavements(!)
BBQ was great. It would have been nice to have deck chairs available as in the pictures.
Cleanliness 3/5 (some dusty, stained surfaces and upholstery, two broken glasses on the shelves!)

We had a wonderful stay at Hummingbird in Veryan. Beautiful house which was described accurately on their website. Our welcome gifts were a lovely touch and the call from Cornish Gems to check everything ok was a nice touch too. We will use Cornish Gems again.

Both as a visitor and an owner Cornish Gems have always excelled. Friendly, knowledgeable & professional they always put customer needs first. They also have the very best holiday properties in the loveliest locations, maybe I'm biased!
