A lovely way to spend an hour, plenty of room on board, and lots of seats of top with a great view. The commentary is excellent, and there are drinks and snacks available below too. Overall pretty good. The river doesn’t allow the best views of the city, so you will need to supplement your boat cruise with a walking tour or a bus tour.

Great boat trip yesterday! Laurie our skipper was really funny! The commentary was hilarious and really made it for us! Nice to be able to get a glass of vino on board! Have been to York many times before but have never done this trip……takes an hour and was a lovely way of seeing York and lots of informative stuff about the city. Highly recommended!

Lovely cruise across the city by river. Takes 1 hour. There are tea, coffee and simple snacks on board, as well as a toilet. Beautiful views, recommended. Were sitting inside, as it was very chilly on top! Dress accordingly. Sails off every 40 mins.

I did enjoy the experience, I would do again. Friendly staff & good fun waving at everyone! My issues were that we couldn't hear a word that was being said so no idea what we were looking at, but it was nice anyway. I also booked online for 2pm, it said boarding 1:30, when we arrived at 1:30, we were told it's 2:15 and to come back at 2. That was fine but was a little confusing that the online booking said something different. The website to book is not the best (slow to load and such). No major issue though and we both still really enjoyed it. It took about an hour overall.

A enjoyable ride along the river Ouse. Staff are friendly and the the tour is easy going, I believe there is a dinner cruise 🛳 and afternoon tea one but they don't seem to be running at the moment hopefully they will come back because I would like to experience that. Anyway pretty decent trip.

We were unlucky the first time we got on the cruise as to some technical issues the ride had to be cancelled. However we came back the next day with the same ticket and were accepted without any fuss. The cruise itself was relaxing, and to top it we were served with mince pies and drinks.

I had booked tickets for the cruise online and it was a very smooth on boarding process! We had booked a later ticket but they let us on an earlier boat which was lovely! Luckily the sun came out and the guide was great too! Shared very interesting facts about York too!!! Definitely recommend the tour on this cruise!!!

£40 for an hour, kids loved it. Not something you do often and was nice to see parts of York from the water instead. Both kids captains our HMS Angie, glad we did it.

I went on the one hour cruise on the spur of the moment to fill in the time before catching my return train. Very nice to sit enjoy the river views and listen to the commentary on key sites in York after walking the city walls. The only criticism I have is there seemed to be only one speaker at the back of the boat, so not that easy to hear everything that the guide was saying. Could do with a speaker at the front of the boat also.

Well it was OK - that's about it. Weather was poor so we sat in the lower deck. Had a couple of more stops to pick up other passengers and off we went. The PA system was a big let down - too much bass not enough treble. It was muffled. We could only pick up the odd word so missed all the informative commentary that we expected. This made the trip really dull, like the weather at the time!

Went on a early evening river cruise (5/07). We had a lovely relaxing time on the cruise which was filled with great information and humour from the great skipper/narrator Lorry (not sure on the spelling) and drinks served by the lovely Amelia. Tickets were reasonably priced, drinks were cheaper than the local pubs! Highly recommend as you learn about York whilst enjoying the calmness of the river.

It was a nice day for a city cruise the trip was great went on longer than I thought. We didn't go too quickly so we could see all the things the driver was telling us about. I would recommend and the staff were welcoming and friendly.

I booked the Afternoon Tea experience and it was a great afternoon. The sandwiches and cakes were presented wonderfully and tasted great and there was unlimited tea/coffee to choose from, including cold drinks. The staff were friendly and helpful. My daughter booked cruise for my husbands birthday. She mentioned in writing when booking online that it was his birthday. When we boarded I went to the bar and mentioned it to the staff to ask could they wish him happy birthday. Nothing was said, my suggestion is don't ask people if they are celebrating anything when booking online If you are not going to acknowledge it.

Group of 4 on the 1hr evening tour. Fair price, staff were friendly and a nice relaxed tour, didn't feel rushed. Different view points for seeing some of the city. Did knock it down a star just because the gentleman giving the tour, was at times very difficult to understand in that the first half of his sentence was so incredibly quick none of us knew what he was saying. QR code scan when getting on and plenty of choices for seating.

Floodlit cruise a bit disappointing as it was raining so upper deck not an option. Couldn't see much out ot the windows. Perhaps dim the sitting area lights. Jazz not everyone's idea of cruising music. Staff were friendly and efficient. Make sure you check the weather beforehand. I'm sure if there had been 🌙 the cruise would have been much more enjoyable.

We were made to feel very welcome as soon as we arrived. once on board John and all the other staff couldnt do enough for us making sure we were ok and had got everything we needed, John came to us on a few occasions checking that everything was OK. It was a very pleasant and enjoyable couple of hours. We will definitely be back on board again soon. We had this bought as a gift and we're expecting a buffet lunch as stated on the card however the lunch was lovely but thai green curry may not be something everyone will like, so may have to let people know what is on for lunch before buying the experience.

We were given a river cruise and meal voucher as a present. We chose York as we could have a few days away and use the voucher as part of our wedding anniversary celebration. Having booked we waited at the quayside. At the appointed time we were invired aboard and seated ar our table. We set sail and enjoyed a slow cruise aling the River Ouse seeing many natural sights including 4 herons. The captain gave an excellent commentary, when required, whilst the cheerful and obliging staff served us. Well worth the experience.

Nice and relaxing, we sat downstairs on the open front boat which was better. However couldnt hear our guide talking. If you want to hear, best be upstairs if on this boat. Further down the river though is far too much oil, no wonder we saw no wildlife on that part. We paid £11 each but after our tour it was £10??? Not sure why so just check pricing too. "Everything ran as smooth as, a Rolex sweeping second hand. From booking through vendor to, boarding the boat. The trip itself well, this was just as smooth and relaxing. The skipper's commentary was clear & concise, and the boat was kept steady. There is also a cafe on board so, you can get a cuppa to cruise with (another craft has tabled seating for lunch cruises) I would not hesitate to suggest this to any of our friends, and would look at another in a different location. All in all, very pleased."

Nice cruise in the river but the commentary is not really instructive apart for the bridge history and flooding. The cruise is around 30 minutes in total ( not 45) because you spend 15 minutes to Dock around two places and boarding people. Would have been nice maybe to have more time and spending that 15 minutes to go a bit further out and to hear more about the history of the city. In general it was a very nice experience and the guy was hilarious 😂.

We did the self drive red boat (which are now blue) for an hour. This was great fun for all the family, including our dog. Great way to see York Riverside. The Ouse is lovely. Easy to drive boat, our 12 year old loved it!

Had the afternoon tea river tour aboard the Captain James Cook. Our visit had been delayed for 2 years due to the pandemic, we received a complimentary glass of prosecco to accompany. The staff were very welcoming from the moment we arrived on the gangplank and throughout our journey. The afternoon tea was excellent varied sandwich selection and delicious cakes. The staff replenished our coffee pot throughout the journey. The captain gave a commentary on the points of interest along the river. If planning a river cruise I recommend the afternoon tea cruise.

Was on a working holiday.Disappiknted as only had disabled access onto the boat at the main starting point.Next stop 5-10 minutes away down which we had to risk life and limb to go down a steep cobbled area with a wheelchair didnt happen.We were told they weren't allowed disabled access at this stop.Eventually got on later on the day at main stop it was fine £22.10 for 2 concessions.Lasts 45 minutes.Staff were helpful.You go down one side of the River Ouse under the bridges and hear all the history turn and the same on the other side.Children would love this.

A really nice way to see the city from a different viewpoint. Friendly staff and refreshments are available onboard. The pilot gives a running commentary for the 45 or so minutes it takes to go up and down the river through the city. Pretty good value, and if the weather is nice, it's a great way to view the sights.

What a great experience! We enjoyed a night time jazz cruise on the Ouse. Staff were polite, happy and helpful. Commentary was limited as expected but funny at times, suiting the mood and the audience. The subtle jazz music in the background was a great back drop allowing you to talk. Sitting outside for part of the trip we experienced a wonderful sight of York by night and it was certainly a must for any night owls wanting something other than a pub crawl. Great experience.

Got on the evening relax cruise with jazz music. Didn't book beforehand but got on okay (do book in advance to avoid disappointment). Really pleasant, with a complimentary drink (or more at the bar) Bring a jumper as it does get a bit chilly, especially if you're not a Viking. The skipper was really pleasant, and the dad jokes lightened the mood. Got a lovely view of the Minster with the Moon overhead (no photo, sorry) but gorgeous end of the cruise. Great way to end your evening :) would deffo recommend

(Visited Jul 2021) Hiring one of the little red boats is a cute activity ideal for anyone’s itinerary as part of a weekend in York. Split between 6 of us, it wasn’t much more than £6 each for an hour’s hire (which is long enough). Look out for discount codes online. We took turns driving: while the route isn’t enthralling, it’s nice to sit, chill and watch people go by on the riverbanks. It only rained a tiny bit, but there’s some shelter towards the front and middle of the boat.

Inside the seating was wet too some of it at least. They tried their best to pass around one wet towel to everyone to wipe down their own seats but that was quite unhelpful. I tried small boat that I drove myself and it was great experience. A small boat that can accommodate up to 8 people. The rate for one hour is 35 to 40£. It is easy to drive and we had a chance to take some photos and go under many bridges. The little kids should wear a life vest that might be somehow annoying for them. A fine evening cruise. Constant narration of how the river had changed over the years. Long lists of sights to see as we traveled up and down the river. Took about 90 minutes and was great. There is a snack bar which also has drinks. There was quite a line 30 minutes prior to departure and the entire top was filled by about 15 min prior to departure so get there early if you want to sit on the upper deck. There were lots of dogs on the lower deck.

Reasonably priced at around the same as other city cruises in the UK. The cruise we had lasted about 45 minutes but if you want to stop further up it's just over 50. Interesting way to see some of York. The knowledge and commentary from the boats skipper is what really made the journey so good though. Toilets onboard, bar with various hot and cold drinks including alcoholic. Some snacks too. Toilets onboard. 2 levels with the downstairs completely undercover for those wet days.

A group of us did the early evening cruise on the last day of our tour. It lasted about an hour. The boat has a comfortable lower deck saloon bar where you can get hot, cold and alcoholic drinks - there are also toilets - but a few of us opted for the better views from the front of the top deck! It was also the best place to hear the entertaining commentary from the skipper, who gave us a lot of interesting facts laced with humour as we sailed under York's many bridges and past historic landmarks. A totally new perspective of York from the river and we learned a lot about its history. Cruised to the outer limits of the city then returned to King's Staith and continued in the opposite direction as far as the modern Millennium Bridge. Plenty of photo opportunities as the sun set and the lights came on. A lovely relaxing way to end our holiday!

Had a lovely lunch cruise : food was cooked fresh on board, and service excellent. Great touches such as linen tablecloths and fresh flowers, with a commentary at the points of interest, and lovely scenery. Would do it again.

Myself and my husband went on the hour long early evening cruise. It was a lovely hour cruising down the river Ouse listening to the interesting and funny commentary as went along. The staff were really friendly and there is a bar for alcoholic and hot and cold drinks. We are going to come back and do the late evening cruise with Prosecco!

We rented out a boat for an hour, we had pre-booked. Once on the boat its was great, however the man taking peoples money was rude, you also have to put a deposit of £30 down when you get there on top of the price. We still had to wait in the que even the though we had paid online, whilst waiting in the que they took the board down with the price on and added another £10 onto the price which I though was a bit cheeky. We were able to take the dog with us and the children were given life jackets. Wouldn't use again.

Very pleasant way to spend an hour, especially if, like we had, you've just been up and down the 275 steps of York Minister and could really use a long sit down! The commentary was witty and informative and we wished we had done it earlier in the day so we would have had the time and energy left to visit some of the places mentioned, the driver / captain / tour guide certainly seemed keen on the railway museum, maybe next time!

Good fun for the family : the boat is not fast so there's very little to go wrong. You can get about an hour out of it if you don't rush to the halfway point, otherwise you'd be done in 45 mins easily. Some nice sights along the way too.

We got the hour long cruise (cheaper as booked online then showed the email on arrival). Really pleasent cryise up through town turning after Clifton then back through the City to the millennium bridge before heading back to the original departure point. We took a flask of tea and even on a hot sunny day were glad of our jumpers on the top deck.

Was so looking forward to going on York Cruise down the river, I thought it was expensive I paid 19£ for 2 of us, but thought okay will have a lovely relaxing 45 minutes , started of good then the skipper doing the commentary sounded as though he was a million miles away, so didn't find out anything, children screaming, and running up and down stairs without any parent supervision at all, other people having no interest on hearing the commentary just talking very loudly about nothing to do with the cruise, someone said you should have sat down stairs at the front to hear anything, so take note if you want to hear what the skipper has to say don't go upstairs

Had Afternoon Tea on one of the boats last week, plenty of sandwiches and cakes also if you want more tea they will give this to you, during the cruise there a commenter who gives out facts on the cruise and surrounding areas, some of which is funny, so when you next visit York and are looking for afternoon tea give this place a try best to book online.
