Lovely relaxing trip along the river. Interesting commentary from the crew which was clearly heard. We were lucky to have a lovely summers day. Would definitely recommend this if you have an hour to spare. Turn up a little early if you want the best views as seats are first come first served.

Amazing way to spend some time and see the city from a different perspective! We did it in quite good weather but it would’ve been just as amazing in colder weather. Super dog friendly and the staff were lovely :) There was even an ice cream boat that you could by from the water, on the journey! See pictures.

I really loved this tour and I had a great time! The cruise is very gentle on the river Ouse and our captain was a great tour guide too. I enjoyed Kris’ commentary, “bad” jokes and knowledge he passed onto us. I would totally do this again and recommend it to others. Fun tour of York and a great way to see the city and learn more about it.

Nice river cruise. The accommodations weren't the cleanest or best kept but are quite serviceable. The staff are friendly and helpful. Very nice presentation of history of the area and the river. Many gorgeous views. This was a love start to our last day of vacation in the UK. The boat had a nice little shop for refreshments, my dad and brother enjoyed a cup of coffee and I a bottle of bubbly water. It wasn't overcrowded and the possibility of choosing outside seating versus inside seating was nice given the occasional sprinkle on the day we toured by boat. Would definitely recommend this cruise.

A really relaxing ride up and down the river. All of the staff were really friendly and helpful. Booking online was easy and clear. We were a fairly large group and space was set aside in advance without us even asking, which was a really thoughtful thing from the staff. Informative commentary along the route and a cider in the sunshine made this a lovely chance to be a tourist for once in a city that we know very well and visit regularly.

Lovely cruise on the river Ouse which lasts just over an hour, and is a welcome break after all that walking around the fair city of York. Our captain and guide Keith kept us all well informed about all the sites along the banks of the Ouse, with lots of local history info as well, and added in a few good dad jokes for good measure, he had a great dry sense of humour. If you are lucky you might see a steam train passing on the railway bridge along the way, a lovely nostalgic site on a sunny summer's day. So if you want to relax for an hour in the sunshine, take a short cruise on the river Ouse. Because believe me my young friend, there is nothing - absolutely nothing, half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats. Boats are blue not red,, self hire ones ! Engine a little noisey once inside but doesn't take away the fun, U get to go through 4 bridges and back again then on to two more bridges before returning,, U can't smoke but who would notice if u did,, u have to book it online . All in all worth the 35 pound paid,roughly one hour.

From my point of view if you visit York as a tourist, a cruise is a nice activity to do. I went at 3 o clock to ths cruise and I had the opportunity to be guided by a guide who explained many things about York in great detail. There was also plenty of space in the boat to sit but maybe that was because of the season. There is also a mini bar where you can have an alcohol drink such a wine or a non alcohol drink such a coffee. Special price tickets for children, seniors and students are also available.

I've lived around here for quite some time, but when my parents came to visit and we decided to go to York, I knew it was time for me to be a tourist again! We took the 3pm boat tour departing from Lendal Bridge on Saturday 22nd April. I loved the tour, as it told me a lot of things I didn't know yet, making York even more beautiful in my eyes than it already was. My biggest complaint is the noise. Because it's an open top cruise going past several terraces, people shout at the boat and wave. Also, the tour is nearly an hour long, so any children (and plenty of adults..) have trouble keeping quiet for that long. This, in combination with the loudspeakers not being very loud at all, meant that we missed a lot of information that we would've liked to hear! My suggestion is to turn up the volume. The helmsman was very funny and cracked plenty of jokes during the tour. I'd also like it if the speaking would be the tiniest bit slower, as my dad doesn't speak English too well, but trying to translate one sentence while the next one is already being said is quite hard! Overall we had a great time on the boat and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone visiting York (especially on a sunny day).

I've been threatening to go on a river cruise each time I've visited York for the last 14yrs, well yesterday I eventually did it! We went on the 1hr sight seeing cruise which left from the Lendal bridge. It was fascinating viewing York and the historic buildings from the river. The seats could have been a little more comfortable but otherwise we'll worth the adult price of £11 and Senior price of £9.50.

It was a windy but warm day so only 2 boats were on instead of four, which was great as we thought the trip might have been cancelled as high winds were expected. Enjoyed the cruise as part of the YorkPass scheme. Very informative guide who was able to fit some light humour in during the journey. If the weather is good enough would highly recommend. Didn't use any facilities or purchase any drinks whilst on board so can't comment on those. During half term approximately 1/4 of the boat was filled. Bring a camera as you may get some good photo opportunities of the York Minster.

Went on the Christmas cruise this time and really enjoyed it. Special visit from Father Christmas who brought an age appropriate gift for all the children on board. Facepainting on arrival followed by tea/ coffee and mince pies. Nice little cruise down through the city centre and back. Really enjoyable way to spend the evening.

The cruise was wonderful and smooth and a thoroughly relaxing hour learning all about the sights of york city. Great staff, reasonably priced drinks and the food was fantastic. My only downside was drinks not served upstairs. So if your party is seated upstairs the bar,toilets and dance floor are on the lower deck. However it was a lot nicer being on the top deck more room and lighting and the food is served upstairs.

Made the mistake of doing this too soon after fabulous cruise on the Norfolk Broads. You will get the story (scripted) of six bridges and a few places of 'interest' en route during an hour for £11. Most fun was watching the novice rowing eights from York Boat Club setting off and getting to grips with positioning in the flow and coordination of limbs and oars.

Kids loved this as they could help 'drive' - of course under supervision!! Lovely sunny day helped and 1hr journey up and down the river was just about right. Efficient service but heavy deposit (think £40 ish) then similar for the boat hire. Fully repaid but they only take cash for all so beware. Queuing could be bad I guess at times. We waited about 45mins which can seem longer. You can book a day or so in advance and just walk up.

not recommendable, it does not go around york city, just comes back from where it goes between 3 or 4 bridges. Unless you have a yorkpass, which gives you the ride free, think once more whether you pay for it.

It's always pleasant being on a river on a summer day and the staff were helpful, polite and friendly. It has to be said that the commentary was a little uninspired and occasionally difficult to hear. The cruise cannot be considered a suitable way to explore the city as, from the river, very little of the city can be seen at all. The tour initially drifts gently past fields, providing an opportunity for the seemingly endless drone of health and safety announcements: across the fields, in the distance, an ancient school could be viewed, famous for reasons quickly forgotten. An announcement that the National Railway Museum was visible through the trees on the opposite bank caused heads to turn dutifully as the boat headed back towards the centre, although I was unable locate it. The River Ouse does not pass the locations for which the city is famous - the Shambles, York Minster, the city walls etc and commentary has therefore to be restricted to what you can actually see on the banks of the river which, with two or three exceptions, did not seem all that interesting and no different from what you would expect to find on the banks of any river flowing through any small English city. Of course, the, er, course taken by the river over thousands of years can hardly be blamed on the boat operator. If you want to relax awhile, enjoying a pleasant, gentle ride on a very short stretch of the river, the boat trip meets the bill; if you want to view the sights for which York is well known, it certainly does not and a more suitable option is to take a tour on one of the open-top sightseeing buses instead which bring you close to the places of interest. The 45-minute trip was therefore a little disappointing, as though expectations remained unfulfilled, although, in reality, perhaps the expectations themselves were a little unrealistic given the geography and layout of the city, both of which were previously unknown to the reviewer.
